Bayelsa Man Abscond From Marriage Ceremony Over Incessant Demands Drama as bridegroom walks out of engagement ceremony in Imo State due to extortion. He paid N1,500,000 to cater for food, tents, chairs and a public address system. He was also made to set aside N100,000 as the bride price that the two families had agreed on. Biobelemoye David was asked to add N50,000 to the bride price because he had already impregnated the girl. He was slapped with a N10,000 fine for making a detour to the wrong path and ending up in a different homestead other than the girl's. He was also asked to pay N15,000 to appease the elders who had become tired of waiting for his arrival. Drama however ensued when twelve girls covered in loose robes from head to toe were paraded before Biobelemoye David and he was asked to guess who his fiancée was. He pointed at the wrong woman and that led to yet another fine of N15,000. The decisive moment specifically was when the elders demanded for a refund of the total sum of N850,000 that had been paid as the girl's school fees and upkeep since she started primary school! Fuming with anger which he tried his best to hide, Biobelemoye David excused himself to visit a nearby latrine and disappeared! He switched off his phone and was last seen at a bus heading to Bayelsa State from Imo. Charles Ebinimi Owaba #C O P I E D 1 Like |

I heard getting married to an imo girl is like buying a duplex in Victoria island? When we say men gains absolutely nothing from marriage, some daft people will start arguing with us. Why Marry a liability when you could have easily bang her, get her pregnant and watch the family begging you to marry their daughter for free? 5 Likes |

Any Man dat spends more than N300,000 for his Wedding is a Dunce! Many Nigerian couples do not plan for LIFE AFTER WEDDING. Later they start Borrowing and Asking Money from Friends, siblings, Uncle's, etc.. |

Another village poverty alleviation program disguised as marriage. They clearly do not care whether the young couple goes bankrupt or the marriage ends up failing early due to excessive pressures. The man may have ended up hating his in-laws, and will possibly show resentment towards his wife for causing him misery if he ends up in debts. What a loving and very considerate culture it must be for its people to see nothing wrong with and subscribe to it. It’s the non indigenes that are to be pitied like in this case. They get to see shege for daring to marry their daughter. eddie7: 1 Like |

If you're going to Onitsha from Oshodi, it's common sense that you should get out of the vehicle if it's taking you to Maiduguri. why reach Maiduguri before getting out? You'll only waste time and money. One can always predict the end from the beginning, since everything no matter the chaos and obscurity, they always have a pattern. He doesn't have to reach this extent of spending so much before he backs off. Even within the igbo community, imos are known for having expensive bride price, and lowest quality of women, not saying/don't know if it's true, but it's a belief out there. He suppose verify and look well before starting this process of marriage, then back off during research period. Life no hard, this gentleman just go stresss himself and waste money. But if I ask am for 5k now, he go begin tell me story. 6 Likes 1 Share |

eddie7: I stand to say that this is a pure and mischievous lie! My reasons: 1. Did the man not go there with elders? these things are bargained upon and sometimes get settled for as low as 1k 2. Nowhere in Igbo land do they conduct marriage rites on a girl who is pregnant. I don't know why but it's never done unless the pregnancy is hidden from her kinsmen. the lady must be allowed to first have her child. 3. If this ever happened, the man must have gone there alone and having made them believe he is rich, they saw him as a nobody with money and decided to mess him up. 3. The storyteller does not have the actual facts of this story, simple. |
