Viee, well it's not Oby's fault oh that she can't pray or sing the credo and the rest in igbo. I too, when i first went to school in FUTO, it wasn't easy flowing with the songs, though they were great songs. So i had to make a deliberate effort to learn them all. Now i can comfortably say i'm a guru no be small thing! |

Viee, so you attended mass at Aladinma! No it's called Holy Cross Parish. I spent most of my weekends at Aladinma and i attended mass in that parish. I also know the parish at rapour hotel, and it's also a good one. |

Hi lady, welcome on board, just relax and have fun! you don't mean it! Well i was astonished initially till you mentioned you aren't in the country. well that's quite understandable. Well you could go ahead and do the novena privately or get someone to join you. You could go to this site to print the prayers http://www.ewtn.com/devotionals/pentecost/seven.htm We are on the 5th day shaaa. You can also continue with the May devotion if it's not done in the parish you're going to. Where in the US are you? |
Re: Glory To Jesus, Honour To Mary! All The Real Catholics Please Stand Up! by Oby1(f): 6:01pm On May 06, 2008 |
~Lady~: The church is always one, the pentecost novena is everywhere, but it depends on Parish by Parish; in some parish is general, while some is by society to society, my parish is only the Charismatics and the CBIU, while in St. Mary's is all parishioners ( i attended theirs once). Lady are you a Nigerian? you said you are home sick thats why i asked. |

Hi lady, Lol, I hope you all did not think I reside in Naija o. I am in Florida right now attending school here. Yeah I notice that things differ from parish to parish. I am only a year old and some days, so I'm still gettingmy hands on things. I'm catching on really quickly though. I've been attending the Novena at my Parish and it's been wonderful. I guess for those three days that I am gone I would have to do it myself or call my friend and remain on the Phone and pray with the Parishioners. The church is always one, the pentecost novena is everywhere, but it depends on Parish by Parish; in some parish is general, while some is by society to society, my parish is only the Charismatics and the CBIU, while in St. Mary's is all parishioners ( i attended theirs once). Yes ma'am. I was partly raised in Port-Harcourt until the age of 12 when my family moved to the US. Oh well that explains it better. |

Re: Glory To Jesus, Honour To Mary! All The Real Catholics Please Stand Up! by Lindiwe(f): 9:52am On May 07, 2008 |
viee: yeah i remember quite vividly when that trip was organised in my school. i couldn't join the legionaries for the trip because we had series of compulsory workshop practices scheduled for that very weekend. After that they never got to organise another one till i left school. peeps that went for it never stopped talking about their experience. Yeah it's another day again! today is the sixth day of the novena to the holy spirit, and the church collectively prays for the gift of understanding. See below. DAY SIX If Thou take Thy grace away, nothing pure in man will stay, All his good is turn'd to ill. The Gift Of Understanding. Understanding, as a gift of the Holy Spirit, helps us to grasp the meaning of the truths of our holy religion. By faith we know them, but by understanding we learn to appreciate and relish them. It enables us to penetrate the inner meaning of revealed truths and through them to be quickened to newness of life. Our faith ceases to be sterile and inactive, but inspires a mode of life that bears eloquent testimony to the faith that is in us; we begin to "walk worthy of God in all things pleasing, and increasing in the knowledge of God." Prayer Come, O Spirit of Understanding, and enlighten our minds, that we may know and believe all the mysteries of salvation; and may merit at last to see the eternal light in Thy Light; and in the light of glory to have a clear vision of Thee and the Father and the Son. Amen. Our Father and Hail Mary ONCE. Glory be to the Father SEVEN TIMES. Act of Consecration to the holy spirit On my knees before the great multitude of heavenly witnesses, I offer myself soul and body to Thee, Eternal Spirit of God. I adore the brightness of Thy purity, the unerring keenness of Thy justice, and the might of Thy love. Thou art the Strength and Light of my soul. In Thee I live and move and am. I desire never to grieve Thee by unfaithfulness to grace, and I pray with all my heart to be kept from the smallest sin against Thee. Mercifully guard my every thought and grant that I may always watch for Thy light and listen to Thy voice and follow Thy gracious inspirations. I cling to Thee and give myself to Thee and ask Thee by Thy compassion to watch over me in my weakness. Holding the pierced Feet of Jesus and looking at His Five Wounds and trusting in His Precious Blood and adoring His opened Side and stricken Heart, I implore Thee Adorable Spirit, helper of my infirmity, so to keep me in Thy grace that I may never sin against Thee. Give me grace O Holy Ghost, Spirit of the Father and the Son, to say to Thee always and everywhere, "Speak Lord, for Thy servant heareth." Amen. Prayer For The Seven Gifts Of The Holy Spirit. O Lord Jesus Christ Who, before ascending into heaven did promise to send the Holy Spirit to finish Your work in the souls of Your Apostles and Disciples, deign to grant the same Holy Spirit to me that He may perfect in my soul, the work of Your grace and Your love. Grant me the Spirit of Wisdom that I may despise the perishable things of this world and aspire only after the things that are eternal, the Spirit of Understanding to enlighten my mind with the light of Your divine truth, the Spirit of Counsel that I may ever choose the surest way of pleasing God and gaining heaven, the Spirit of Fortitude that I may bear my cross with You and that I may overcome with courage all the obstacles that oppose my salvation, the Spirit of Knowledge that I may know God and know myself and grow perfect in the science of the Saints, the Spirit of Piety that I may find the service of God sweet and amiable, and the Spirit of Fear that I may be filled with a loving reverence towards God and may dread in any way to displease Him. Mark me, dear Lord, with the sign of Your true disciples and animate me in all things with Your Spirit. Amen. |

Today's Saint Blessed Rose Venerini (1656-1728) Rose was born at Viterbo in Italy, the daughter of a doctor. Following the death of her fiancé she entered a convent, but soon returned home to care for her newly widowed mother. Meanwhile, Rose invited the women of the neighborhood to recite the rosary in her home, forming a sort of sodality with them. As she looked to her future, Rose, under the spiritual guidance of a Jesuit priest, became convinced that she was called to become a teacher in the world rather than a contemplative nun in a convent. Clearly, she made the right choice: She was a born teacher, and the free school for girls she opened in 1685 was well received. Soon the cardinal invited her to oversee the training of teachers and the administration of schools in his Diocese of Montefiascone. As Rose's reputation grew, she was called upon to organize schools in many parts of Italy, including Rome. Her disposition was right for the task as well, for Rose often met considerable opposition but was never deterred. She died in Rome in 1728, where a number of miracles were attributed to her. She was beatified in 1952. The sodality, or group of women she had invited to prayer, was ultimately given the rank of a religious congregation. Today, the so-called Venerini Sisters can be found in the United States and elsewhere, working among Italian immigrants. |

oops! I for one, thought you were in Lag as well. well that's good to know. Now i understand how you could comfortably pray your rosary in the bus and even talk to someone about our Lord and pray the rosary with her. definitely not our own kind of Lagos danfo! LOL!!! I didn't say it was comfortable. I just said I did it. Trust me practicing Christianity and being a Catholic is not very easy in the US, especially the south where almost every one is baptist or primitive baptist or african methodist episcopal or united methodist episcopal or church of God in Christ, anything but Catholic. They frown upon you and tell you you're going to hell. It's not easy at all. I might be safer on a molue. I was a protestant and attended just about every church out there and found them discriminatory or confused and very bashful. Yeah it's another day again! today is the sixth day of the novena to the holy spirit, and the church collectively prays for the gift of understanding. See below. AMEN!!!!! |

Re: Glory To Jesus, Honour To Mary! All The Real Catholics Please Stand Up! by cgift(m): 3:07pm On May 07, 2008 |
~Lady~: Unfortunately you may have been blind to the lessons you were supposed to get while still a protestant. You talk about discrimination, glad to let you know that the RCC is the most culprit knowing their history during the Inquisition you know. Even the "Protestants" you call us, is it not the discrimination birthed by the RCC? Bashing is relative. Words of correction and expositions will always sound bashful as people naturally get defensive even in the face of small disparaging views. ~Lady~, i know you and if my prediction is right, i should expect a very bitter vitriol from you in rebuttals. Like i said to you earlier , i wont look at your rantings (if you take that approach again this time) but focus on the issues. I hope i have not spoilt someone's day by intruding? Apologies if i have. Cheers! |
