ALL THE GURUS IN D HOUSE: please i like to know if Astra 2d is receivable in Nigeria and if it is, what is the size of the dish needed to track it down.

@ WARRI & BENIN RESIDENCE:
you can now BROWSE THE INTERNET FREE 24/7. this is as real as anything you could think of. The speed is at 450kpbs. A company in warri has been connecting people for just N10,500 and u don't need any external anterna or all those heavy equipment. The beauty of this stuff is that it is fully mobile and you can travel with it anywhere in Nigeria and it will work.
Call the guys on 08065307667 OR 0703180025. The company's name is PLATINUM TECHNOLOGIES: nnpc housing estate small gate, edjeba road, warri.

@WARRI RESIDENCE:
i get all my satellite equipments cheap at the same Platinum and they have vast knowledge that can assist us.

How in one breath you say the service is "free" and the second breath it costs N10,500 to install? shocked

@F_Marshal,
infact, in all honesty between me and God, that is what am using to browse as i write u now. The N10,500 is for cost of installing/activating the connection on your system. once it is activated, you dont pay a dime to anyone again. more like fta's. bliv it or not, am enjoying it live!

This is not the first time I have been hearing about this free internet stuff, in fact I have seen people use it. One guy was about connecting my system last month. The guy has been browsing the net free for a very long time now. Another guy in Lagos has been enjoying free surfing for a long time. You may be required to provide a mobile phone that has modem or to buy an external modem for the hook up. My guy i have been searching for info as to how to do it myself. Men free to net is real.
Note: Some ISP will allow you free access for a few months before you will be asked to make monthly subscription.

yes, you can use the new HITV decoders to get FTA channels as well.
@ all,
will a 90cm dish using KU band LNB get mbc1,2,4 and action on nilesat??

Since you live in lagos, minimum dish size should be around 2.4m.

Hi people,

could someone pls confirm for me if w3a is down, i woke up this morning and all the channels except tv miramar were gone. this will be a bad time to not receive w3a because the semis are just around the corner.

i said something about resetting my nilesat and not really getting the signals right and still needing to tweak it. well, i finally got the chance to do it today and after playing about with the dish for sometime, i noticed that by tilting one side up i was able to get the signals up to the highest levels possible. now my dish is nearly back to how it was before, just that cnn is not clear at all, but it's good to be finally back.

for those receiving showtime art

it seems the art channels hardly stay open for long, even when the keys are said to be active i can hardly ever get the art channels to open like the showtime channels, can someone pls confirm or refute this?

Hi Guys,
Free to air tv is sure a good thing, honestly i have learnt lot from this thread, and i think it is a good thing to share ones experiences, i use about 4 dishes pointed at various directions, if you are on Eutelsat w3a u would be able to watch the Euro 2008 matches on the ff channels RTS1, TV MALAGASY, MBC3 and if you are on Nss7 u would only see it on STV1 or STV2, However, you will not be able to watch all the matches because Afnex a company who distributes the rights to sub - saharan African was able to acquire rights for only 8 matches, 4 preliminaries, 2 quarter finals , 1 semi final and the final match. Also from 2009 hitv will start the broadcast of the uefa champions league matches , and i think that would be good bye to dstv . they also have rights to the carling cup matches. There is also a way to watch some of these interesting competitions free, but you would be limited to a few of them, Install as much as 4 ku band dishes and point them to where u can get Eutelsat w3a, Nss 7 ,intelsat 7/10 and eutelsat w4.
later guys

@ all
if u check out channels in this eurobird 1 u we see that most channels in the world re all free.this is wot i ve been talking about in this forum let us create awareness in fta in this forum,if this fta company can see our (nigeria and africa) interest in fta satellite tv's i think most company can come up here, they only make their money through advert

the w3a signals came back on their own the next day and i was able to watch the semifinals yesterday.

Butoneday

do u know anyone receiving this eurobird. u said it was eurobird 1 but on lyngsat it's eurobird 9, or are they different birds? the channels there do look interesting and would be worth a try. but i assume, one would really need a big dish at least 3.2m to catch it or what do u think? i mean, it's ku band they are broadcasting on, and from what i know about nilesat, it might mean a bigger dish.

for those who install nilesat, what lnb would u say is the best to use for nilesat, i tried using a 'premium' lnb (costs about 1k) which was very good for nss7 and w3a, but the signal levels for some channels are very low. the strong i was using does not get nss7 and w3a so well but seems to be very good for nilesat. which would u say is the best for nilesat?

Eurobird 1 & Astra 2A/2B/2C/2D at 28.2°E are all in one position. I have watched most of the stations during my sojourn in the UK and I tell you it is worth it. I believe some guys in the north with bigger dishes like 3.0m-3.5m can receive can get some or all of the stations. For those in the south you need much more bigger dishes up to 6.0m. There is a guy in Benin who fabricate fibre dishes up to 6.0m. The guy also do installation as well. I am still trying to get in touch with him. I love metal dishes because of less maintenance and can be secured better.
Eurobird 9 is at 9.0°E. It is not in the same position as Eurobird 1.

butoneday,

sorry pal, didn't do enof research. just confirmed the the name and position.

4sta,
to be of any help, we need to know ur setup, i.e. dish size, type of decoder, and such. i see u reside at malawi, i'm sure there are some sats with good coverage over ur area. what i suggest u do is go to lyngsat.com and check the what satellites are over ur area, u can then check out the channels available on them. the FTA channels have an {f} sign next to then i.e under video encryption. they also have an area of coverage map which gives u an index of what dish size u need to receive them. another thing we would need to know is how many dishes u can afford to set up. there are some in this forum who have up to four dishes facing everywhere. i also suspect u may be able to receive signals beamed towards the caribbeans and americas but then i don't pretend to know about stuff like that. so get back to us, maybe we can help.

Guys i think i should play around a bit with my 90cm dish , was interested in watching a triple X (Bleep) station so i try tracking Nss 703. But no luck. So please guys is it possible to track Nss703 with my 90cm dish?

And i want to try my hand on C-band dish motorized. I can get a 1.8m net for 16k . And the 2.4m net for 24k.

Please advise , is there any difference in the satellites i can get with both in my area , IBADAN .
I hope someone will try and advice me on this , and maybe try and list birds i can get with this sizes of dish , if not too much for you.

Thank you all

Gangsta101,
You do not need to go down to warri for you to get this free wireless internet connection. Just as I have said before, they do it everywhere in Nigeria , especially in Lagos. they do it in PH. This is the first time I am hearing of someone doing it in Warri.
What you require is a mobile phone that has a modem (eg N95, N6030 or 6230i) or a 3G usb modem for laptops and desktops. For laptop users you can buy GPRS PCMCIA Wireless Card Modem. Thereafter you will purchase sim cards from any of the available GSM service providers. Better to but all three. you have to apply for GPRS access from the providers. Then the sim card will be inserted into the external modem or into your phone. The internet installer will download a software from the ISP, usually abroad. He will complete a form and send on your behalf. the ISP will reply your application with an IP address. It with this IP address that you will be connected.  BUT WHY PEOPLE ARE NOT PAYING FOR THE SERVICES I DO NOT KNOW. This is called the new generation mobile internet.

Hi all,
i must really say kudos to you all, its really nice the starter of this thread is back which is biggjoe, but am sorry to add jokingly that your place has already been ditched, but well thanks so much for your enlightenment, no man is an island of knowledge it was through your thread that made me who i am now but not you ALONE certainly but thanks to some other contributors that became knowledgeable through you also people like enigma,twinstaiye,pitodenz,badaru1(though av been in the bussiness for a long time0 but his contributions were so fascinating.

@ who-may-concern,
those of you that have just been hearing this free browsing now, am here to say this trend has been on for more than a year and its not different from all these satellite keys that keep changing from time to time depending on how fast the operators got to know of the latest technique being used by the hackers, if you are ready to gamble with it then go on but be rest assured it wont last long, but one thing there is for you to enjoy it you've got to pally with the knowledgeable ones(specialist) in this regard so as to keep you up to date with new methods if the present one has been blocked by the operator, am glad to help fellow nairalanders only on this FTA thread to browse free on their MTN line alone, throught your phone am still working on how to make it work with computers by using the phone as a modem, NOKIA phones mostly preferable.this will be a one-to-one thing and only to those i've known already.

So sorry for diverting a little bit from this FTA bussiness.

@ jstx24,

Am still suprise at the questions you still keep on asking you can only get 4 satellites using 90cm dish here in Nigeria which are Eutelsat W3a,&W4, NSS7 and PAS 7/10 nothing more.

I shouuld be back in Lagos by next week friday. By then i wll post some theories behind this FTA which will surely help us a lot.

@ Badaru1,
how things, try to go to the properties section of naoraland, you will surely find help there.
Re: Official Thread of Free-To-Air Satellite TV (Part 1) by Nobody: 6:32pm On Jun 27, 2008
@ memento,
you need to the house the satellite you are facing just to know the kind of encryption system the satellie package is using so as to determine whether your new replaced decoder will be able to read the smart card, and pls specify the decoder type is it 4653X or 4653 alone.

@ odaboy,
you can only receive just 4 satellite packages on yur 90cm in ghana, your location is not different from nigeria in the satellite world. nss7,w3a,w4,pas 7/10

Eurobird on 28 E,

based on the theoreties i get from lyngsat, i dont think with about 80% certainty that that bird cant be gotten here especially in south nigeria, because the coverage footpoint doesnt even extend to sub-saharan africa, there's something we should know that there're some birds no matter how large your satellite is it will never capture that bird, its just like you saying people in south africa can get nilesat, thats simply impossible, even if a 12m dish is use, it will be a waste of time.
But i still usually say things we see on lyngsat are thoeries, the praticals we see on our TV screen, and i will like to say this for begginers dont rely solely on what u see on lyngsat, but try to get infos from people that are into the bussiness i will cite some examples, the frequency of ariane Tv on lyngsat is clearly different from what your decoder will accept to be able to show the channels, and i usually advise people who wants to track w3a to use free2view tp which contains MSNBC cos thats the ost reliable signal but not he best, on lyngsat the tp is 12728V, but in reality its H(tp), so someone that hasnt confirm that from a w3a viewer will be tracking the bird using V polarisation he got from lyngsat and will say he couldnt track the satellite so for anything you want to try, try and ask those that are using it so to know you are doing the right thing and save you a lot of stress.
Re: Official Thread of Free-To-Air Satellite TV (Part 1) by Nobody: 7:36pm On Jun 27, 2008
SATELLITE TRANSMISSION:

sellite transmission is based on sky-wave propagated transmision. An artificial body is placed at a specific location in the ionosphere region of the atmosphere, and a transmitting location on earth. Signals are the transmitted from the earth station to the artificial body in space also known as satellite. there're various freq at which signals can be transmitted but it lies between 3GHz to 30GHz, but for our Tv Transmission there're basically 2 types of freq bands within that specified frequency i mentioned above, its known as ku and c band. Ku- band lies between 10GHZ and 12 GHZ, while that of C-band lies between 3GHz to 4Ghz.
So it's wrong to classify the size of dish as ku or c band type, but it should be classified uisng the frequency at which they operate. People using nilesat will mentioned c-band but in reality they are using ku-band, because the freqs are from 10GHz upwards, check lyngsat for proof.
The reasn a big dish is used to get those signals is because the location is a little out of the foortprint covered by the satellite, but its limited, there're some satellites that can't be tracked no matter how big the dish is.

LNB: the real name is Low Noise Amplifier (LNA) but in the amplifier a block is introduced in the circuit, and the name changed to LNB. Satellites are located about 36000km up into the sky, so the signals get to the earth surface through the bouncing-off process, the dish is meant to gather these signals, but before they got here to the earth their ERP Effective Radiated Power would have reduced greatly, so on gettting to the dish surface they are reflected and become converge at a point which is the focal point of the dish and don't forget that the dish is not circular but parabolic, so the focal point is where the rod holding the LNB got extended to, so the LNB picks those weaked signals up and amplified it the more, but the LNB have more capabilities of doing that than each other based on the components making up the circuit, but the performance of a LNB is mainly the noise ratio which is measured in dB, so the lower the noise ratio the better the LNB, a 0.3dB is better than a 0.4dB, after the signals have been amplified they are sent to the reciever through the coaxial cable, but the longer the coaxial cable the more the strength of the signals will be weakened and that process is known as attenaution loss, the max length should be 50m anything longer than that a signal booster should be connected at that point.

More lectures coming soon, hope that helps
