SMH @ the responses.

Your minds are gradually being programmed to remain recipients of aids and western programme.
Talk about colonial mentality. We can buy state-of-the-art presidential jets for the dumbest presidents but will rather accept a decommisioned outdated water patrol ship and sing america's praise.

This is trash! we should bury our heads in shame. you can never be greater than your master! Thats the latent message.
It's a disgrace my brother

USaid aid; UNESCO aid; UNICEF aid; IMF aid; Worldbank aid; Paris club aid; and now US Navy aid.

It beats me to see Nigeria remain a recipient of aids and western programme and yet we feel it is absolutely normal to stay same.
All of you commending this "donation" should have your heads checked. Apparently, a "recipient" is always a subject to the "donor" and will uncompromisingly do his biddings. This is the bottomline of western foreign policies on Africa.

We can make it, but we are too phucking lazy and burdened with low self esteem. Is it not humans that made as long ago as 1968?
If for sad reasons, we are incapable, then none of us has the right to condemn the old boat we've bought, because we don't have the money to buy a brand new one.

It appears you just love to talk without facts. Sometimes, i wonder if you just love to coin words to sound intelligible without recourse to a little research.

Re: US Warship Leaves For Nigeria Today - Tribune by Onyocha: 11:51am On Nov 21, 2011
I am more bothered by the fact that the west and particularly the american dont offer free gifts.there is always a price to pay for their gifts.usually the price is hidden in their agenda.sometimes it is what we call 'wash-wash'-to paint their image in good light.they would fool you that they are your friends only to be stabbing you from behind.

America will gift you ammunitions when they want you to do their biddings, subjugate you,or make you fight yourselves and commit suicide by accepting their gift.it is indeed a cheap gift america is investing.this goes to show that they either dont trust us or they dont value us as so called 'friends' or they see us as too common, ordinary and cheap.

Can the US give such a gift to a country in europe? Can they even give to south africa or brazil? Shame!

Re: US Warship Leaves For Nigeria Today - Tribune by HOTandCOLD(m): 11:57am On Nov 21, 2011
That old ship will need a lot of TLC, so we may need to import U.S crew to maintain the ship and don't forget, they'll have to paid in foreign currency. If it's a gift, well what can you do but take it and say thank you. I hope we didn't pay cash money for it because i remember Canada buying 3 fairly used submarines from britain and they are still lamenting about that 419 deal.
Re: US Warship Leaves For Nigeria Today - Tribune by moderatorr: 11:57am On Nov 21, 2011
if we do not accept it we wont have a war ship until we accept one!
We know they bugged it with hidden cypher audio and video transmission bots.
We dont care, what else should we have done but accept it.
At least to raise swags against our of neighbouring togo and cameroun.

Re: US Warship Leaves For Nigeria Today - Tribune by Nobody: 12:04pm On Nov 21, 2011
The ship was given out for free and was being modernized to cater for her new role as a frigate.

Probably fitted with new heavier armaments and upgraded military hardwares.
Also can be used as a heli pad for the Navy's helicopters

Last time I checked, it wasn't only Nigeria that got de-commissioned ships, also The Philippines

Next step would be to acquire some corvettes.

I can now understand why the US is so opposed to a country like Iran and keep screaming against Iran's peaceful nuclear technology.the iranians have learnt the hard way after they shut the US embassy in Tehran since 1979.it is very simple:if you want to be strong and respected you must be able to feed yourself and invent and build technology for your people.otherwise, you will continue to be a recipient of old cheap gifts and be exploited by america like Iran was before the 1979 revolution.americans use to commit crimes in Iran and be 'tried' in US courts.the american CIA engineered a coup in Iran when they didnt like the prime minister.

Today,Iran builds its nuclear technology, cars, military submarines, sophisticated missiles, ships, tanks and many more tools of technology.these iranian made may not necessarily be the best in the world, but at least the iranians are depending on themselves to do something.that is the only way to fight exploitation and be self-reliant and independent.

Thanks for this info, like some mentioned earlier American gifts are nothing short of Greek gifts, this is just a thank you 1968 Tokumbo gift for our vote on the devastation of Libya through a dubious UN mandate which allowed the US led NATO to bomb that country back to the stone age. Will the US give this kind of gift to South Africa or Brazil? NO. They wouldnt accept it and if they do it will not be in the public news.
The cutter is to be used to fight militants in the Niger Delta and protect American oil installations while no effort is being made to better the polluted environment and improve the lives of the people.

Nigeria's 2010 budget was $31billion, of that amount, 70% (about $22billion) was recurrent expenditure (salaries etc) leaving roughly $9billion to sort out the states, LG's and capital expenditure. Where is the money to afford a new ship? Nigeria is not only poor, but our people are also too phucking lazy and low self-esteemed to make anything. Better accept what you've been given with thanks and rejoicing; if you don't want to do that, then roll up your sleeves and actually start making your own stuff and make it good enough for export.

when they have no need of it again they decommission it, & becos of Nigeria they recommission it. this is good but is that all about it? i know america will not show interest (in form of help) if their is nothing to gain; if what they want is oil; fine, not to take total control of Nigeria indirectly, reenacting the indirect rule system. they will come in at anytime without permission like they did in pakistan they then give a flimsy excuse that they have to keep the information to themselves(security reasons)they were never in Rwanda(during the genocide) reason  nothing to gain.

How many millions of dollars did we pay for refurbishment and training of the crew. Guys, nothing goes for nothing, they might even have tracking and spying devices secretly installed on it unknown to the nigerian navy.

Thought I was the only paranoid one here,

If my memory didn't fail me I think we spent around 30 million dollars on refurbishing.

I don't want to imagine the cost of transportation to Nigeria.
