like i always remind some jokers there are DIFFERENT types of business of which trading is a small, miniscule part. this idea that we are good in business and others are not is self aggrandizement

SHELL is the biggest business in Nigeria.
The truth is the biggest businesses in Nigeria are the least visible
I wonder how many people have ever heard of Actis which is one of the biggest investors in Nigeria.
a lot of people think if you are not buying and selling you are not doing business.
FYI the biggest local business in Nigeria is the sale of  agricultural products from the North
WORTH MORE THAN OIL and gas.

Lagos state alone consume 40 billion naira worth yearly in cows goats and sheep
Mile 12 market does more business than every other market except Oke-arin in Nigeria
when you hear nigeria is spending so much importing petrol, fish  cement who are the major players ?? yea you guessed right Abokis
OIL &Gas Oando,
Telecomms
Aviation
Banking
Manufacturing Cadbury,Nestle,Dangote,LaFarge,NBL,Guinness etc
Construction Julius Berger

are the biggest businesses in Nigeria
trading, especially downstream middlemen individualistic businesses are important but really are small fry
all this we are good at business yarn is funny
you are good at BUYING and SELLING what OTHERS manufacture
go and look at the listed REAL businesses on the stock exchange and see who are the Chairmen or major shareholders

There is trading and then there is business

Theophilus Danjuma , Ado Bayero ,Aliko Dangote,Mike Adenuga , among others these are the biggest businessmen in Nigeria
even among the smaller businesses like tranaport and haulage(TANKERS/TRAILERS) the Abokis dominate the trailer and tanker business with NO NOISE so please spare us this boasting . if you think you are the best businessmen use it to improve your communities STOP the noise

,those who claim to understand the philosophy of business should tell us why they find it hard to form companies and rise above shopkeeping and trading . why their participation in the shipping Telecomm business, money markets, banking,AVIATIONand stock markets is virtually non existent.
truth is they  they do not understand the nature of BIG businesses and are unable to rise beyond the  small to medium sized  ONE owner buying and selling (kara kata) business model.
there are nigerians who sit at home and collect payments on EVERY container that enters the country because they made the more significant investments in shipping and port concessions are they businessmen??

IGBO is the prefered word in the modern day igbo tongue.

So it's IGBO all through for the people, language, and place.

There's nothing like making up our minds. Some Igbo kids like kay_ci have been wrongly influenced by other ignorant Nigerians. I can wager he knows little about his own culture.

The problem is that people doesn't no the kind of money sitting in onicha alone, even the police officers that were transferred to onicha anambra state wreck a lot of money from bribery,it was on the news that police makes about 8 billion alone from onicha.
i know a lot of serious wealthy men and women in onicha and nnewi, Thanks to Gov Obi dat went to d drawing board and obtained the original master plan of Onitsha, Akwa and Nnewi 4rm d UN!Giving the state d first secretariat, returning our schs to churches ,giving every LGA a sense of belonging.

Now a plot of land in nnewi goes from 9 million a plot, onicha now are no go area, don't no much about akwa. cool cool most people are buying lands in asaba and they are building beautiful house i was really impressed. When i visited a friend in G.R.A asaba i bow for my people is like small London.

The fence got electric wires naked ones, you can see the sparks going from one end to another i couldn't believe how quick they developed that area.

Thank you May God be with you, your family and all of us

this people don't understand

I myself I have lived in places where I was a total stranger at first visit

Places like anambra, port harcourt, Lagos, warri, Ibadan, Kwara, Kogi and calabar

all in the bead to make earns meat for myself.
Now if they are in the north to make money as well, it is good

The youths do not represent and average northerner.

I am such you have met some northeners before, You cannot tell me they are evil. the same with the yorubas

THIS SITE DOES NOT REPRESENT THE YORUBAS IN ANYWAY OR FORM. likes of eko ile, bluetooth and co are not representative of yorubas. Meet like og Gbawe and akinbi edu, they are more yorubas when discussing with them

Like of Ezeuche, mekuuzz etc DO not represent the Igbos. In fact Igbos are nice people I am not going to lie or decieve you.

Neither DO I ALJ HAREM Represent the North in any form or way. Thanks for not getting carried away

well appreciated. Nwa Eze obiagu 1 of Ndi igbo, I hail you o. Now please explain to this people
You haven't stepped foot in any of those places you mentioned. You visited them in your dreams and google maps on your computer.
You study places and nigerian tribes on net and claim you've been to those places.
You're no different from ashawo in the streets. One minute you diss this tribe and the next you're praising them.

Does it make it right? If Achebe does an error, does it become right because it was done by Achebe?

'Ibo' in itself is not out of place, considering that it comes from the Hebrew 'Ha Ibri' or 'Eber', but in line with our modern tongue, it is Igbo.

It's like the relationship between 'thy' and 'your' in English.
Re: Boko Haram: Igbos Flee The North En-masse by aribisala0(m): 2:08pm On Nov 24, 2011
with respect my question is about orthography i am suggesting that IGBO or IBO orthography is different from English orthography  and when writing in English Ibo and Igbo are the known forms. neither spelling in english captures the sound of gb in  Igbo/Ibo orthography
also bear in mind that for none Igbo/Ibo writers e.g yoruba Igbo has a completely different sound  and meaning.

in IGBO OR IBO there are the following alphabets gb gh and gw
they are not the exact same as combining g+b g+h or g+w  in english orthography if people understand that there would be less confusion
so depending on which orthography you are using Igbo can mean different things to different Nigerians.
in english Ibo is quite clear
really i don't know about your claim for Hebrew which i believe is bogus and not relevant to what is the correct spelling of the word Igbo or Ibo.

the term Hebrew is another anglicized or Greco-Roman  form the so called Hebrew people do not call themselves that
at any rate do you have any evidence for this claim
i believe Achebe is perfect and does not make errors grin

It seems you have comprehension problems. I just gave you a hebrew word(Ibri or Ha ibri) not an anglicized version of what the ancient hebrews call themselves and that's where the Igbos derive their name from. The rest of what you wrote up there is nonsense.

Mile 12 does more business than any other market in Nigeria you say, how did you get to that conclusion?
Have you been to other parts of nigeria? You guys are so shallow-minded.
If Igbos are mostly small or petty traders, can big businesses survive without them? Dangote or Adenuga can only sell their products thru them.
Have you thought of that? Guess not. All you guys do is to type whatever crap that comes to your mind.
Wealth is evenly distributed among Igbos cos there's a great deal of competition in business in Igboland. Thats the main reason why you see Igbos in many parts of Nigeria/world. To make it in business in the east, you must have enough capital, be a shrewd businessman and very much determined.
In other tribes(especially Hausas & yorubas)wealth is owned by very few people, which is why they have billionaires like dangote and adenuga.

You can deny your brothers that are being killed in the North but we Igbos won't.  In Kaduna, the one I witnessed, Yorubas were the majority of people massacred and after the crises, they were complaining that Igbos did not protect them; but who told them to live among Northerners?

In Azare, in a recent crises after the election, I asked a relation there what happened and I was surprised that only one Igboman lost his life. I asked him who was killed there then, he said Yorubas.

No matter how you try to deny your brothers, there are as many Yorubas in the North as Igbos but Igbos are better off because they live in Igbo quarters among themselves and protect themselves. Any rumour of impending crises, they hear it from their customers and flee before it starts unlike your brothers.

We have checked and cross-checked these vague numbers you all throw out and debunked your claims many times over here.  You all like to swell ad reduce numbers to suit the purpose of your arguments and not necessarily to present truth.

Ibo remais the major casualty in regional conflicts.  In North, Northereners kill Igbo, Yoruba ad eve their own Hausa/Fulain but Igbo remain in higher proportion of casualty than the rest.   In West our clashes are usually politically motivated, we don't have religious riots.  In our political turmoils it is directed at our ow factios ad Yoruba remai the higher casualty.  Once in a while when Ibos or Hausas trespass beyond their allowed boudaries on our land we respond with action. In those cases Ibos have trespassed far more than Hausas and hence out of the two they are higher casualties.

So you should take a second look at your propaganda aalysis ad redo your casualty ratio by tribe.  We are talking about orth - regioal - you are listig village by village icidences, you have o shame.
Re: Boko Haram: Igbos Flee The North En-masse by NegroNtns(m): 3:46pm On Nov 24, 2011
I still stand by my statement, Ibos need West and North more than the two need Ibo. West Africa is a major market and Yorubaland is the gateway along the savannah and the coast. Hausaland is the gateway along the savanah ad the arid areas ito West Africa. Central Africa is not as buoyant a market as West Africa is. Besides Cameroon is ot as welcoming and tolerant of Ibo as Yoruba or Hausa is.

You are ladlocked!!

To the person that say we eed you i West, you are fool. West was a paradise for Odua children until your people flocked in like refugees escaping an inhabitable land to come live in West ad destroy West. You will be good riddace the day you decide to pack up and go. We can go back to re-developing our urban lifestyles and metropolis in the vision of our fore fathers and with modernity of amenities and technologies. I hope you all vex and just leave West.
