Yujin:

The level of lies and deceit you guys churn out just to have your way on grabbing people's lands is sickening.
If the far north is truly a desert region, how then do they produce farm produce during the dry season? What is all the Fadama projects sponsored by the Federal government about. All the dams built up in the far north also dry up in the dry season right? You're pathetic.
I'll also want to let you know that we know Niger republic has over twice the number of cattles Nigeria has which means that they are doing better in cattle production than Nigeria especially you lots in the far north. The same dryland of Niger feeds over 40 million cattles but you want to deceive people that your North West and North East can't feed the 18 million cattles in your area. You must think we are dumb.
Geographically, Niger is just north of your own territory and even drier than your own land yet the produce more cattle. This shows that you're a liar and definite up to no good with your false claims about the dryness of the far north of Nigeria.

During the dry season, pastoralists in Niger Republic often follow established transhumance routes to ensure their cows have access to grazing land and water. Here’s an outline of a typical route:

1-Departure from Northern Regions:
Cows start in the northern regions of Niger, such as Agadez or Tahoua, where the dry season hits hardest and pastures dry up quickly.
2-Southward Movement:
Pastoralists begin moving south towards areas with more consistent water sources and vegetation.
Common routes include traveling towards the Sahelian regions, such as Maradi, Zinder, and Dosso.
3-Along the Niger River:
One key route follows the Niger River, which provides a reliable source of water and green pastures.
Pastoralists might move through areas like Tillabéri, where the river flows.

Please keep the discussion civil. Thats the only way i can be sure i am not discussing with a mad man. This is the internet.

Stop making inciting statements and Let The Bill for the Ban on Open Grazing be well debated because its is a very sensitive issue that requires opinions from all parts of the country as well as ECOWAS member states to promote unity and Progress in letting everyone know that Ranching is the way out not the agelong practice of open grazing because old habits die hard

I was angry when someone attacked you that you will die when you move cattle to the East. Nigerians are becoming intolerant which one another and the scale is becoming alarming. Very soon, I will be writing to National Assembly about tribal bully in Nigerian online space and to set law against it. You can bully race in America and go Scot free.

Nomadic farming practice just have its on own drawbacks as we move into a modern society. Herders children lack basic education. And that has continued some economic and security concerns for everyone’s. Food prices are so high because no one goes to farm anymore in fear of herders attack. These are real issues. We buy petrol and gold in world market price. We can buy beef also. Our chicken price is already more than world market price. Cow is not any cheaper in market even with free 2 yr feed. Cattle with good feeds takes 12 -14 months to maturity. The number of deaths associated with cattle rearing is enough to stop herding!

All your comments are valid, i only write out of concern for fellow Nigerians, personally i have nothing to lose as well. There is an amount of tribal hate in Nigeria that has risen to astronomical proportions even more than inflation of food items. The minute you speak in favor of fulani, the assumption is you are a fulani and the attack begins, even if you say "water is good to drink", it will be attacked and people will call you names. Nigerians need a lesson on how its okay to agree to disagree. There is nothing wrong with that. We don't all have to share the same views on similar issues. Everything is going up to world prices without world-like wages. Its is really getting bad.

Removing the Beef subsidy

Potential Impact on Beef Prices
Implementing large-scale ranching could significantly increase the cost of beef due to the high expenses associated with establishing and maintaining ranches. These would make Nigerian cows too expensive for purchase as cows from Niger and other neighboring countries practicing open grazing will be cheaper in the open market.

Suggested Practical Solutions
Designated Grazing Areas: Allocate specific areas for grazing to prevent clashes while allowing pastoralists to continue traditional herding methods.
Conflict Resolution Mechanisms: Establish local committees to mediate disputes between farmers and herders, promoting peaceful coexistence.
Cooperative Farming: Encourage farmers and herders to form cooperatives, sharing resources and knowledge to improve productivity and harmony.
Community-Based Animal Health Services: Provide mobile veterinary services to support herders, reducing the need for long migrations and potential conflicts.
These solutions aim to be cost-effective and fair to both cattle herders and farmers, ensuring sustainable practices and reducing conflicts.

Why cant the northern Fulani man feed his cow in the south ?
Lets be tolerant and restructure designated cattle grazing areas in every state to accommodate everybody.

You are thinking backwards please!

In the US, China, and even Argentina:the world's largest producer of meat, they don't have nomadic farming!
It's a backward way to think

I like your solution, can you give us example of the drought resistant grass ?
Grasses like Brachiaria and Napier are said to be drought resistant. I had my practical experience with brachiaria las year. Even though I planted late (around late August and early September), which means they were barely established. They survived last year dry season without any drop of irrigation water. By late January they were still very lush and green while almost all grasses elsewhere were either withered or drying up. But after the herder marched his cows into the place to trample on them they began to loose vigor. If I was cutting and wanted to it to regrow for another cutting then I would have had to water maybe at least once a week. But I keeping them to produce seeds. I actually had plans to water but my 3 inches water pipe that leads water to area was broken by the person that prepared the place for me. And its too expensive now to buy the pipe.

I have also planed Napier this year. I'm yet to see how it will fare in the dry season.

I believe there are other ones, but these are the ones I'm most conversant with.

Meanwhile cows that feed on these two grasses will produce more milk than those fed on most other common grasses.

Ranching will cost more but run but will produce far better results that make it worth it. Better feeding, less stress to the animals and better yield in meat and milk.

Then you fulanis of Nigeria should keep to the same route in your territory. You don't give pig farmers free land to rear their pigs... or do you? I know your type very well and I'm well prepared for you.

I wont engage you anymore, you do not have the IQ to agree to disagree without succumbing to personal attacks. I am not even fulani, but i can see you do not have the maturity to engage in civil disagreement. There are more matured people on nairaland.

My intellect is far above your comprehension and I'm glad you got to know it. Your useless attempt at trying to appear civil while defending bloodsuckers is akin to dancing on the pool of blood of the thousands of farmers murdered by your fellow Fulanis in their own ancestral lands. If not that Nigeria is an evil country, which human being will be discussing this killings in the senate building? In sane countries, trespassers who go ahead to destroy owners properties are killed. Any fulani herdsmen who carries his cattles into a farmer's farm deserves death the same way a man who forces his way into a ranch and starts killing cows deserves to be shot dead.

I don't look forward from reading from you again because you totally lack the critical thinking ability required to solve basic infringements as the crime of trespassing and destruction of livelihoods of crop farmers.
Farmers can survive without cattles but herders can't survive without farmers hence farmers are more important to the world than herders.
Away with you.

This bill is direct. no long story and it should have been passed imiidiately considering lives truncated, community razed, wanton destruction. Why waiting for one month.

no body is stopping anyone from feeding cows, they should buy the feeds or prevent the cows from encroaching into peoples farm land, how can feeding cows be more important than human life and growing food crops.
