Yujin: During the dry season, pastoralists in Niger Republic often follow established transhumance routes to ensure their cows have access to grazing land and water. Here’s an outline of a typical route: 1-Departure from Northern Regions: Cows start in the northern regions of Niger, such as Agadez or Tahoua, where the dry season hits hardest and pastures dry up quickly. 2-Southward Movement: Pastoralists begin moving south towards areas with more consistent water sources and vegetation. Common routes include traveling towards the Sahelian regions, such as Maradi, Zinder, and Dosso. 3-Along the Niger River: One key route follows the Niger River, which provides a reliable source of water and green pastures. Pastoralists might move through areas like Tillabéri, where the river flows. Please keep the discussion civil. Thats the only way i can be sure i am not discussing with a mad man. This is the internet. |

Mayflowa: All your comments are valid, i only write out of concern for fellow Nigerians, personally i have nothing to lose as well. There is an amount of tribal hate in Nigeria that has risen to astronomical proportions even more than inflation of food items. The minute you speak in favor of fulani, the assumption is you are a fulani and the attack begins, even if you say "water is good to drink", it will be attacked and people will call you names. Nigerians need a lesson on how its okay to agree to disagree. There is nothing wrong with that. We don't all have to share the same views on similar issues. Everything is going up to world prices without world-like wages. Its is really getting bad. 1 Like |

malali: You are thinking backwards please! In the US, China, and even Argentina:the world's largest producer of meat, they don't have nomadic farming! It's a backward way to think |

malali:Grasses like Brachiaria and Napier are said to be drought resistant. I had my practical experience with brachiaria las year. Even though I planted late (around late August and early September), which means they were barely established. They survived last year dry season without any drop of irrigation water. By late January they were still very lush and green while almost all grasses elsewhere were either withered or drying up. But after the herder marched his cows into the place to trample on them they began to loose vigor. If I was cutting and wanted to it to regrow for another cutting then I would have had to water maybe at least once a week. But I keeping them to produce seeds. I actually had plans to water but my 3 inches water pipe that leads water to area was broken by the person that prepared the place for me. And its too expensive now to buy the pipe. I have also planed Napier this year. I'm yet to see how it will fare in the dry season. I believe there are other ones, but these are the ones I'm most conversant with. Meanwhile cows that feed on these two grasses will produce more milk than those fed on most other common grasses. Ranching will cost more but run but will produce far better results that make it worth it. Better feeding, less stress to the animals and better yield in meat and milk. |

malali:Then you fulanis of Nigeria should keep to the same route in your territory. You don't give pig farmers free land to rear their pigs... or do you? I know your type very well and I'm well prepared for you. |

Yujin: I wont engage you anymore, you do not have the IQ to agree to disagree without succumbing to personal attacks. I am not even fulani, but i can see you do not have the maturity to engage in civil disagreement. There are more matured people on nairaland. |

malali:My intellect is far above your comprehension and I'm glad you got to know it. Your useless attempt at trying to appear civil while defending bloodsuckers is akin to dancing on the pool of blood of the thousands of farmers murdered by your fellow Fulanis in their own ancestral lands. If not that Nigeria is an evil country, which human being will be discussing this killings in the senate building? In sane countries, trespassers who go ahead to destroy owners properties are killed. Any fulani herdsmen who carries his cattles into a farmer's farm deserves death the same way a man who forces his way into a ranch and starts killing cows deserves to be shot dead. I don't look forward from reading from you again because you totally lack the critical thinking ability required to solve basic infringements as the crime of trespassing and destruction of livelihoods of crop farmers. Farmers can survive without cattles but herders can't survive without farmers hence farmers are more important to the world than herders. Away with you. |
