TRUTH OF THE MATTER IS THIS AINT NO ASSAULT HELICOPTER.. FOR GOD SAKE WE NEED TO STOP EMBARRASSING OURSELVES.. THIS CHOPPERS ARE USED ARE USED FOR CONVEYING LIGHT EQUIPMENTS AND IN SOME CASES USED TO AIRLIFT WOUNDED SOLDIERS FROM COMBAT AREAS... THE ONLY ASSAULT THIS CAN ACCOMPLISH IS IF YOU DECIDE TO START THROWING GRENADES FROM THE TOP ON BANDITS WHICH OBVIOUSLY SOUNDS AND WILL EQUALLY LOOK STUPID... WHEN WE START TELLING EACH OTHER THE TRUTH IS WHEN CHANGE WILL COME TO THIS COUNTRY... SO.E OF US ARE NOT ALL THAT STUPID

The a10 warthog if I recall is used primarily by the US army for air support. It is one of the best fighters for direct support of infantry

You will observe that the Nigeria army seems to be taking the US approach where every military branch has their own planes and pilots who would be under their direct command.

The us navy has the fa14 tomcat designed for aircraft carriers

The us marines have the harrier jet (vertical take off from vessels)

The army had the huey and warthogs.

So the Airforce will now be basically Useless cuz if the Army now do Air ops, of what use will now be of the Air force in Military operations

What a log of garbage. The Huey that the US used in Vietnam is what our army depends on as cutting edge close air support tech? The huey? This platform that was developed in the early 1950s before Nigeria got independence?

In contested airspace where bandits across the North have access to weapon systems that bring down fast moving fighter jets, a huey that its maximum speed is 127mph is just a flying coffin. Who the hell thought this was a good idea?

The US is about to retire several hundred of its A-10 warthogs. That's about the most capable close air support platform around. Since the US is now willing to sell weapon platforms to Nigeria, they might consider selling some A-10s to us. Even though that's a tall order.

2024 and na Huey wey oyibo don forget about since 1950 na him our army fall hand dey buy so. Shebi dem no see blackhawk buy as dem go market?

Why can't they go for drones for efficiency and effectiveness

There's a limit to what drones can do. They have limited payload can't carry enough weapons, in terms of endurance range it may be limited. Also drones can't hover like a typical rotor helicopter would. Also troop transport and extradition.

While the army should also get drones, I'll prefer they stick to helicopter that can be adapted for various roles

Bandits with RPG, high calibre rifles or mounted guns can easily bring this helicopter down and the crash is always fatal (Google this). It's going to be a case of penny wide, pound foolish.

I can tell you for a fact that the government will not even buy up to 20, this is just an avenue to siphon cash.

We need more of attack helicopters, not this.

The huey can also be adapted for light attack roles but a double door machine gun, an underneath guided machine gun and a rocket pod, it would do the job. A mix of attacks and transport chopper.
True It's not armored as a dedicated attack helicopter, but hitting a chopper is no child play, forget what you watch in the movies, it's not easy to hit a moving target with guns not to mention RPG. A whole lots of luck is required except our bandits are armed with SAM which is also deadly even to armored choppers.

The Army chief said is for evacuations of wounded and reconnaissance. You carry this old bird go active war front, na RPG go send am back to it’s maker

You act as if Nigeria is fighting a near pair adversary.
This helicopter will be used against bandits and terrorists so yes it can be deployed at the front, true it will be venerable but it can do a lot of damage also.

The billions of dollars we have been budgeting for defense over the years could certainly have gotten us a number of apaches. If the US could sell to South Africa and Egypt, surely we can get them to sell to us at least. But no, we would rather buy cheaper stuff and embezzle the rest.

Anyways, the primary reason the US won't sell such an advanced weapon system to Nigeria is the appalling human rights record of the Nigerian army.

One thing you anti-Nigerian elements need to understand is that in this digital age, if you come online and make wild claims and lie against Nigeria, you will be fact-checked on the spot.

Idiots.

...buffonery of the highest order. Who is talking about number of countries using it. The question is if its still relevant in this current dispensation of sophisticated air weaponry and unmanned air attack and defence crafts. If this is what Nigeria is calling its special air defence unit, then it is more than shameful. It should be hidden and not shown to the public. Some states here have more than these in terms of crafts and support system(support and logisics system make 50% of a warforce)

...and while at it, dunce I do not bneed to use Google unlike you, it is the industry I spent years in before moving to another. Google is meant for knowledge skimmers like you

tutudesz:

Google is your friend, the helicopter is still in production and so many countries are using it

Stories what about all those sophisticated tucana jet fighters they bought during the time of buhari? Yet bokoharam and bandits are still not wiped out the major problem have never been the lack of sophisticated military equipments to fight terrorism but the political will. A very determined military with the political will backing them up will definitely decimate all terrorists in nigeria within just six months without all these heavy military weapons niger republic don't even have all these but their military has managed to keep away terrorists from their country.

40 million dollar helicopter that can be shutdown by 80 dollar RPG?

USA has more human rights abuses than all other countries combined
