Re: My Father's House Was Sold Without My Consent by Beautifulday: 11:53am On Jul 12 |
Sirhush: He should meet the mum and find out why the property was sold. If he is not satisfied, he should take it up to the elders of his town or village. |

The general rule of customary law is that; "Where a land owner dies intestate, his self-acquired property devolves on his children as family property...." "According to customary law, women may not own property and hence, upon the death of the husband, the ownership of his home is passed on to a male member of the family...." Source- www.icnl.org PS- I can see a lot of nairaland feminists up there arguing blindly as usual. Congenital ignorance is their trademark. |

jayce232:It's mother's killing their husbands but not husbands marrying a lady cos she is a big catch or her family is loaded. Abuja is a typical example where men hunt single rich ladies. Men with absolutely nothing. And oh, most of the men cruising with latest cars there are just cruising their wives cars. Cos women prefer not to blow their trumpets? Tomorrow an idiot of a son will come to sell of their house cos he thinks it belongs to his dad so it is his. In my neborhood in abuja( not just any neborhood), there are loads of female directors and name them but laid low. One lady drives an old jeep while the latest one she bought she just gave her husband. This lady single handedly sponsored her husbands people to school outside the country, got job and built befitting house in their village. And she is so nice, so many like her so like I said, you guys shoukd have s.all shame for once and stop pretending it's a one way traffic. It's for those who don't have will that has time for this. Any property we have is jointly owned. Next of kin is both spouses before kids. See entitlement for my sweat. No be juju be that. |

1MILLIONLiGHTS:If my child is a nuisance and after giving him so many chances to be useful failed, I will remove him from inheritance. Yes, it's done worldwide. Oyibos will rather will their money to a charity, good and dedicated servant than an irresponsible child and they have absolutely no remorse about it. To continue with generational inheritance, the successors have to be smart and ready to follow, obey and act on the rules that come with that generational inheritance. Go and read up generational inheritance and what successors passed through to keep it running. You don't just hand that over to an idiot. In Nigeria, as we hardly follow generational inheritance, if I have an idiot as a son who will rather send me to an early grave by selling off what he didn't know how his dad and I acquired, I will sell that property off myself for my old age and if I have other kids, for them without blinking. See entitlement mentality because I born you. Go and make yours and do anything you want with it. In igboland where I come from, I have seen father's share properties and if the first son is an idiot, will only get the house they live in and others goes to the rest of the kids. If you are responsible, nobody is selling off anything . Always ready to fight for nonsense. Property wey no be his. Mcheeeew |

descarado:Madam u are deviating from my post! What I said was simple, I don't understand the reason for this epistle u are writing. Except u want to tell me women are perfect beings? I said what the poster I quoted said was biased. It is wrong for her to label the op the bad person without bringing the possibility that he could also be the victim. It is a divided family, anyone can be desperate! Women also drag for properties, someone stated on this same thread how the sister connived with the mother to withhold some documents. It doesn't necessary mean the op was a bad person for this to happen, that's a lopsided way of viewing things. 1 Like |

All those that have made useful comments i thank you all it has really helped. All those who didn't even know me and made negative comments on my person i pray that they evil that has visited my family will dwell with them 10 million folds. I am not the first son I'm the second son.We are six in number my sister in question is the eldest and she has been a greedy person right from the time we were little and my mum always supports what ever she does whether right or wrong. My elder brother the first Son is a cool guy the best elder brother anyone can think of we all were well brought up no drug issues or nonsense behavior anywhere as insinuated by some nairalanders. It's just greed on the part of my sister and she collaborated with my mum. My sister and my mum stole the original documents of the house and sold without the consent of everybody. We all did not agree to sell the house after my dad died but only my sister and mum were pushing for it to be sold. We said ok since they have sold it no problem let the money be shared. Why i shared my story was what if they refuse to share the money what can we do about it? Because there is no will and the document was stolen,so what can we do? We have reported to family members/elders they are not happy about it they are doing their best to resolve the issue but my question is if they can't resolve issue what can we do? Have we lost our father's property? We had no intention of selling it in the first place. |

Vulcan24: You are ignorant. Except the man made a will specifically to give the property to the children, the person in charge of property when any of the spouse is dead is the other spouse. You are just advertising your ignorance |
