President Bola Tinubu’s old post on X, formerly known as Twitter, favouring protest against former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration has surfaced online.

Tinubu at the time urged the police not to attack protesters because their lives and children were involved.

“Police. Do not attack protesters. Your children are involved. Your lives are involved. Your children’s future lies here,” Tinubu had written before he became the President.

DAILY POST recalls that there were a series of protests during Jonathan’s administration, with Tinubu and many other prominent leaders of the All Progressives Congress, APC, then throwing their support behind protests against the government.

The President’s former position on protests against the government resurfaced amid plans by some Nigerian youths to commence nationwide protests beginning August 1-10, 2024.

DAILY POST reports that the protest, which is currently gaining traction in the North and other parts of the country, is aimed at drawing the attention of governments at all levels to the worsening economic hardship in the nation.

DAILY POST reports that Nigeria’s headline inflation increased for the 18th time in June 2024 to 34.19 percent from 33.95 percent recorded in May.

This was contained in the latest Consumer Price Index and Inflation report released on Monday by the National Bureau of Statistics, NBS.

It’s also being alleged that the Nigeria Police Force is initiating plans to halt the planned protest.

The police, in an internal memo sighted by DAILY POST, said “Some groups are mobilizing for mass protest nationwide beginning from 1 to 10 2024”.

The memo, dated July 8 and copied to zonal Assistant Inspectors-General of Police, requested the operatives to be proactive and “mobilize well-kitted and equipped personnel” ahead of the protest.

However, one of the X users, @Emir Sirdam, who shared the President’s post on X in November 2013, drew the attention of the police to Tinubu’s words about the protest.

He wrote: “Your words will be your greatest enemy. Dear Nigerian Police @PoliceNG take note.”

While @Comrade Isah Muhhamed wrote: “@PoliceNG come and see this. So when we come out, you abide by this principle.”

Below is a list of the identity of those who died in the Kenya protest:

Brian Lemayian Kasaine
The late Brian was shot on Tuesday during the Finance Bill protests in Narok county.

Rex Kanyike
Rex Kanyike was shot and killed during the protests in Nairobi on June 20. His death marked one of the earliest and most shocking incidents in the series of demonstrations against the Finance Bill.

Kanyike's untimely demise has become a rallying point for many protesters.

Evans Kiratu
Evans Kiratu died on Thursday after being hit by a tear gas canister.

The use of tear gas has been a common tactic by police to disperse crowds, but in this case, it resulted in a fatality.

Eric Shieni
Eric Shieni, a university student set to graduate in September, was living in South B with his brother. Tragically, he died outside parliament during the protests on Tuesday.

His passing has left his family and friends devastated and has added fuel to the protesters' resolve.

David Chege
David Chege, a graduate of JKUAT with a degree in Computer Science, was a freelance IT professional.

He also died outside parliament during Tuesday's protests.

His aspirations and potential contributions to the IT industry were abruptly cut short by the tragic events of that day.

Beasley Kamau
Beasley Kamau went missing after he participated in the protests. Reports began circulating on Wednesday, June 26, that he was found dead at the City Mortuary.

His disappearance and subsequent discovery in the mortuary have intensified the public's outcry against the government's handling of the protests.

Ibrahim Kamau
Nineteen-year-old Ibrahim Kamau was among the thousands of protesters who stormed parliament, urging legislators to vote against a finance bill that would raise taxes. Tragically, his life was cut short by two gunshot wounds to the neck.

Kamau had just finished high school and planned to study electrical work.

Kennedy Onyango
Twelve-year-old Kennedy Onyango was tragically killed during anti-tax protests in Rongai.

According to his family, Kennedy left the house that day to pick up a book he was sharing with a neighbor. He was reportedly shot eight times as the protests turned violent, filled with gunfire and looting.

Well, what ever mess Buhari left behind tinubu was and is still responsible for it.

Back to the topic

Nothing you can accuse obidients of doing that ApC and their hired urchins have done worse many years back, towards GEJ and his household

Tinubu, adeboye, and that agba cultist were among the Nigerians that protested against GEJ, criticized him, called him names while their urchins made coffins with GEJ pictures on it, but today they cry that obidients are this and that.. 😂😂

Illiteracy is Nigeria most chronic problem.

How does "Common Sense" revolution translate to destructive revolution? Even when the same screenshot of the news clearly show what Tinubu said, the Obedient still can't read a few line of text.

Tinubu words:
He said, "The longer they rule, the less benefit the people derive. Nigeria now needs a 'common sense revolution, a revolution that calls forth a return to decency, probity, transparency of fairness in outcome.

This is done not by subterfuge, divide and rule and turning Nigeria in a field of discord or a street of broken institutions. It is accomplished by honouring the principles of democratic good governance and economic justice. It is done by persuading the people they are better off as one instead of better off tearing at one another's throats.

This your Idea of Yoruba Christian and Yoruba Muslims only exist with you. We Yorubas are not divided on religious basis. Ekiiti and Ondo have 80-90% Christians but yet Tinubu won with very huge margin in those states. So where does that your ideology now play out? Mind you, majority of Yorubas have both Muslims and Christians in their families and there is never a fight over it. I'm a testimony.

You can only decieve yourself. Few days ago during sallah, a church called soldiers to beat up there Yoruba neighbor and his face covering wives.... their crime?
That they slaughtered their ram facing his church. They were beating mercilessly, broke the man's head and whooped his wives mercilessly. I guess you are living on another planet.

I wish our government can just be reasonable for once and fix this country rather than playing politics with the lives of Nigerians.

Growing up, i only saw a certain region begging for Alms as a mean of survival.

But now, another region is overtaking in alms begging.

There's this corelation between the region holding unto power and their people being the worst hit with bad governance.

I hope Nigerians learn that Tribal and Religious sentiments does not guarantee good governance.

Why are you all suddenly apprehensive about a protest against bad governance when the present president was at the forefront of similar protests when he was in opposition?

Since You claim all is well in nigeria and bat is doing well, then you should have no fear that anyone would come out to protest against bat.

That is how you people praised bubu even when it was glaring he was destroying this country. You insulted anyone who spoke up to draw attention to bad governance. Where are we today?

Now, you try to exonerate yourselves from bubu's embarrassing failure, yet, you don't want people to talk about bulaba who is even going down a worse path than bubu.

You people are planning your own rallies to show support for bat, that is cool, but why fix it to coincide with the protests to end bad governance if you don't have sinister motives?

Nigeria can only get better when the people are united and speak truth to power.
