Alhaji Aliko Dangote shouldn't be held accountable for purchasing dollars at a cheaper rate when he was developing his refinery, according to Muhammadu Sanusi II, the 16th Emir of Kano, because that was the real rate the apex bank was selling to everyone at the time.

At first, Sanusi, who voiced his opinion on the matter via the SOP Chat Group, stated, "I honestly do not think it is a good idea for me to make comments on these issues, but some comments surprise me, and I just have to say something."

The emir continued, saying, "The price at which the CBN sold dollars was not fixed by Aliko Dangote. If they purchased on the same day, the rate at which each person received dollars from the CBN was the same. It is therefore not his fault that he purchased dollars at a rate that the CBN itself chose to offer to its clients.

Nigeria is currently paying subsidies for petroleum products and that invariably means Dangote himself has likely been benefitting from the subsidy scam. undecided

Thank God, Dangote opened refinery, we wouldn't have known about this, and our government refinery wouldn't have "promised" to function.

I hope people like nairalanda1 have learnt a lesson or two about subsidy and why it's a perfect scam!

Instead of always advocating for increase in fuel price

Instead of always advocating for increase in fuel price

1. This comment of yours shows you do not understand how subsidy scam works

2. For the record, subsidy is what you pay when you sell fuel below it's actual cost price.

Right now it costs 1100 to import one liter of fuel. Government sets the pump price between 580 and 700 naira. Thus a subsidy of about 300-500 naira is paid per liter of fuel

And this is around 700 million monthly now

3. If the subsidy goes, the price of fuel goes up. That is why anytime there is a partial removal of subsidy, there is a price increase as a result. As seen several times over the decades

Hope you understand now.
