Aun al-Ma`bud, defines Thaub as both sewn clothes and un-sewn garments (as in 'Li`haf‘, as in 'what one covers with in bed’, as in 'blanket’).

Imam Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani stated in, Fat`h al-Bari, that originally, 'Thaub‘ is in reference to un-sewn garments.
