Actually, if you read my 2022 post (it's the last post on the first page of this thread), it ended up costing them more.

The manufacturer had almost finished the train by the time the new governor said that he didn't want it. The manufacturer sued the government and won compensation in court. The old government had previously made part payment for the trains.

Yet Milwaukee still didn't get the trains. The manufacturer sold them to Lagos (the reason Lagos went for it is because it was cheaper because the manufacturer had already made a lot of money from it).

I only responded to the post asking whether discontinuity also happens in America after a change of govt and I tried adducing reasons why it could have happened in the case of the subject.

Well, I see why the train contract was cancelled the former governor and the current one are from different political platforms. But IMO, that was a daft move, knowing the manufacturer won't just look away, in fact, the current Governor cost the state more money than he was trying to prevent. Well, their lose, Lagosians' gain.

Lagos State government is trying, but can still do better. The central government led by Senator Bola Tinubu isn't trying at all! Instead of focusing on redeeming the battered image of his administration by providing good governance, which is the primary responsibility, Tinubu is making all efforts to silence oppositions of his maladministrative government and using tax payers money to pay media thugs to assassinate the characters of oppositions.

Tinubu must be kicked outta power!!!

Yet they will be the ones claiming someone voted out of tribalism, can any rationale being give me 1 single reason why you will have GRV vs Sanwolu in an election yet you chose to vote GRV. Do such fools not need mental evaluation to save them from foolishness..

Just one single reason even if it's a bad one n earn 10K.

The trains are used trains Sanwolu purchased in Canada and the news was shared on nairaland when he went for the purchase.

The intercity rail system was first initiated by Governor Bola Tinubu in 2003 under "Lagos Urban Transportation Project". Besides the BRT network, the rail network never took off as it was postponed multiple times by successive governors until Sanwolu.

So what’s your point?
Are you an enemy of progress?

Rail transportation isn't a profit generating enterprise anywhere in the world......the new govt at the time could believe they could still make use of the hold ones they had and not taken on extra debt acquiring new ones or maybe some malfeasance had been detected in the purchase and could refuse to go ahead with the deal.

What is your goal for telling lies about the profitability of rail transport

SINGAPORE - Listed transport operator SBS Transit has posted a 1.5 per cent rise in net earnings to $69.1 million as revenue grew 0.8 per cent to $1.53 billion for the full year ended Dec 31, 2023.

Total comprehensive income attributable to shareholders – which includes transactions passing through its reserves – rose by 3.2 per cent to $69.2 million.

Although one of its smallest profit growths on record, the group’s net earnings are now at their highest since the Covid-19 pandemic.

In the fiscal year 2024, East Japan Railways Company (JR East) announced a profit of approximately 196.45 billion Japanese yen, improving its performance from about 99.23 billion yen recorded in the previous fiscal year.

Some of you must sha make anyhow comment. Dem call something 'Metro Rail', you dey expect make e be high speed train. Of what use will the speed be if the train stops at every 50-100 miles interval?

Is that not similar to what Buhari did to Jakande’s metro project in 1984, after his only successful coup against democratically elected President, senators, representatives, governors, state legislators, LGA chairmen and councillors?

Quite incredible how Tinubu led Yorubas to recycle the clueless old soldier as civilian president and the messiah to fix PDP’s mess of 16 years, because our Asiwaju’s long throat desire for power through ebilokan turn. Are we better off now than we were in 2015?

Splashme:
The first civilian governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, on Tuesday, said that the cancellation of the Lagos metroline project in 1985 was a major mistake and disservice to many Nigerians.

Jakande spoke in Lagos during the launch of a book which chronicled his life in politics and journalism.

The book, entitled, ‘Jakande: Leadership in Action’ is written by Dr. Bola Olaosebikan, who told the audience at the event that the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), was not responsible for the cancellation of the project.

Jakande said, “Reflecting on the metroline project, I think it is a major disservice to many Nigerians. Imagine how many people would have benefitted. It would have made life easier and changed the face of transport in Lagos. Whoever cancelled it or gave the advice towards its cancellation didn’t do right.”

The former governor asked Nigerians not to vote for unserious leaders in the coming polls, saying the elections presented Nigerians with a good opportunity that should not be squandered.

Expressing the hope that Nigeria would soon overcome its developmental challenges, Jakande said hope would be actualised faster if credible people emerged as leaders in the next dispensation.

He said, “This book comes at a very auspicious time in Nigeria’s history as we need leaders who can act. We need leaders who would not compromise the standards of good governance. God has blessed this nation the most in Africa, although we have not reached where we should be; with the right leaders, Nigeria would overcome its challenges.”

I can't be asked to read the previous comments explaining why they're not using the the Talgo rolling stock anymore but I'm glad, a fucking ugly and vastly inappropriate rolling stock to use for an urban metro system.

The HST(High Speed Train)125's now used though definitely not appropriate for metro purposes🤭 are cosmetically a better trainset to be seen used till someone wakes up and realises these too are not appropriate for 'Rapid Transit' use wink.

Some Nigerians will never experience good things in their life time.

A government brought good initiatives but some children of perdition are saying the train coaches are second hand , that is their only compliment to the project.

God will continue to keep our leaders and give them wisdom.
dont mind dem, we know the enemies of lagos, the developers bad news is their hobbies while good news is just like poison to them.

Very good, the red line will have bigger impact than the current blue line of few stations. More passenger will ply this route if they open all the station- though I feel Ogun state should be punished by not opening up the agbado station UNTIL their state government repair the road around the station- it's awful!

The test trains are obviously not the new Talgo trains- they are InterCity 125 HST shipped in from the UK late last year
