I joined this thread 2010 when I was just rounding up my UG, I patiently followed, searched for schools, took tests etc today! It finally paid off, I got d famous green ticket!!!

I got to the embassy 7:30, went tru d whole process nd got interviewed 12:45pm and it goes like dis

Me: Good afternoon
VO: Good afternoon
VO: pass me ur docs
Me: gave him
VO: Why do u want to go to d us
Me: study, graduate studies
VO: What skul
Me: told him
VO: what course
Me: told him
VO: why this skul
Me: among d skuls I applied to, only *** gave me a GA, d GA pays half of my tuition, gives *** and *** ( VO cuts in)
VO: u got scholarship
Me: No, GA, its gives some funding and benefit
VO: tell me abt the course
Me: defined the course, course structure and listed all the classes I would be taking
VO: did u do gre?
Me: No, I did gmat
VO: can I see
Me: sure, gave him
VO: who is paying for your course
Me: my dad
VO: can I see some financials
Me: gave him, and explained that cus of the GA der wud b less financial burden on ma dad
VO: do u av any paper work 2 show dat
Me: Yes, gave him emails from the school
VO: ok ur visa has bn issued it will b ready bla bla bal...nd I 2k d green ticket.

My observation: everyone b4 me dat did not take a standardized test was denied, another guy was denied cus according to d VO, his I-20 has expired ie resumption date has passed, then a lot of guys came unprepared, they knew nothing abt der skul nor program, I almost laughed @ a point, I just conpot cus me sef never get visa @ d time. @ all pls be prepared, be confident and above all, God factor-pray cus I got the nicest VO dat issued d most visas, dats God.

@genxris, well high is subjective ie my score is not high enough for a Harvard buh def high for my school 2 get me a GA. D koko is u av a standardized which is ok for ur skul to give u admission and woteva comes with it. B confident and go for gold. Fall hopefuls, all the best peeps

I think my best option is to go ahead and write a new toefl , better to have it than to give unnecessary stories to convince the VO .

5. You need to research for ur self,
6. Price is reducing from $190 to $175 from July 1st but remember the Naija company charging u wud charge extra so if you have someone that can do it abroad, all the better
7. It expires every 2yrs so you have to take the test again and try to get a higher score

You see those University of ...... and ......State University are highly competitive in every state. I guess your CGPA is lower than 2.5 on a 4 scale? Well, your GRE or GMAT can play a vital role if you have a good one. Also, look for private schools, though expensive and not really sure about this but give such a trial too. When searching for schools, check their CGPA requirement and write the graduate coordinator first about your case before committed to applying. I'm sure yours is here in the US......keep searching!

Yes a gre score in the 1300 region is good and toefl score of 100 and above cld also b rendered good.

You can try California state university system, however, be prepared for the funding and taking prerequisites which may result in an extra semester or year. If you're sure of funding, you may still get fall admission.

Why are you going for UG and not Masters. ,, did you write any standardized test , ,just try go trought the part 1 ,am sure you do see.sucess stories and ill fated ones that u cud improvise on .

I am always happy whenever I see Geologists on here. There are many schools who will admit you for masters. I will only advise you not to submit your original transcript from OAU to the school. Instead, submit an evaluated one from WES, don't ask me why. The schools convert rubbish.....lol, all they do is simple maths and not evaluate the transcript course by course.

What is your GRE score? Well, a score of 1000 is fine. Most schools do not have the Petroleum Geology option, you may want to watch out for that. Abi na Hydrogeology you wan do?.....lol. California State University Northridge, Sacramento State University and City University of Newyork, City college will all give you a conditional admission with your 2.2 and a GRE of 1000. I have more schools to give if you want. Goodluck.

It's not compulsory nor important but its adviced. . . Some schools don't require it but the VO myt refuse u based on this or he myt not even ask u for it at all. . . It's by God's Grace
