if you have an account with GTB, First bank, you can easily get travelling allowance but i can't remember how the max they can give you, i can remember i get like 10,000 use for GTB, but they don't give me cash, they transfer the money for my sister naira account to dollar account i remember i bought it in august like 160, while in the marktet was like 165, and i was told first bank is cheaper

kellyemms: is it possible to change my bank account first name
If you want to change your bank account first name, you must go to the bank with a Change of Name document and present an ID bearing the new name.

As for your question on the affidavit. To be honest, I don't know much about those things. But as long as it is genuine with appropriate seals/stamps, then I believe it should be fine.

Pounds/Naira has been very high lately. Try out any cool Bureau De Change and compare with mallam.

POE questions vary. You may only be asked about TB history or any other health issues in your family. Also, you may be asked about where you will stay in the UK and they may ask about how much money you have. They may also not ask anything other than give you a small form to fill and for you to confirm your purpose of coming to the UK.

Please give me a link to their site, google is bringing out so many sites. I chose BA bcuz they have the option of flying to Aberdeen, how do I find other not too expensive airlines that go to Aberdeen.
BA site: http://www.britishairways.com/travel/home/public/en_ng ----------Fly to London then connect you to aberdeen

Lufthansa site: http://www.lufthansa.com/ng/en/Homepage -------------Fly you to Frankfurt, Germany then take you to Aberdeen

Emirates site: http://www.emirates.com/ng/english/index.aspx -----------Fly you to Dubai then take you to Birmingham and finally to Aberdeen.

Emirates is cheapest but it takes longer time. Just enter your search criteria on the three sites and analyze the options as against your priority amongst cost, flight duration, baggage allowance and time.

Thanks dear. Do you have any suggestions where I can get a good winter jacket and shoe in Lag? I am having problems thinking of a place I can get them. I am betting on the fact that someone may have given a suggestion here in the past or you got yours in Nigeria before travelling.
Also, I intend using either emirate or qatar airline and they have a baggage allowance of 30kg(small if you ask me). I need to know the very essentials I must bring along(food + other items) so I don't leave the important stuffs behind.
Finally, how much in pounds do you advice I have on me when I travel and how soon can I open a bank account?
My bank assured me my mastercard will work over there but I will love to have a bank account. One shouldn't put all hope on a Nigerian bank promise.
You know you're a lady and it is almost natural to expect your baggage to over-exceed allowance grin so it may be difficult to say what's important. Many food stuffs are available here in the UK so don't take too much of what you can get here. You can bring these: 1) Very dried fish that is extremely sealed 2) A few packs of noodles for the first two weeks 3) Ground pepper (if you'll need it) and your preferred seasoning cubes as you may not like the one here 4) Garri and beans (but not rice). Ensure these food items are well sealed because if their dog sniff your fish, na to confiscate am o grin.

As for money-in-hand while traveling. You can take any amount (though you'll declare any amount over $10,000 or so) but for safety reasons, I believe any amount between £600-£1000 will suffice (except you plan to pay for accommodation or something else on arrival).
You can open a bank account in 2-5 days when you get here, depending on the bank. You may choose to have the rest of your money in your Nigerian account and when you get to the UK, withdraw from the ATM and deposit in your UK bank account.

Tell your cousin to go ask at the local government.
You really need to calm down. Desperation can only hurt your application cuz right now your head seems to be in a hundred different places. grin If you really intend going to the UK to study, then first of all pay your full tuition before your visa application (if you can afford to), as I believe this would help your affidavit look less whatever it is. Then just apply with your affidavit. The process is pretty much simple, don't make it complicated for yourself with all the unnecessary forgery. They just want to see that you are a genuine student and that you can cater for yourself during your time spent in the UK.

If you are still nervous about your affidavit, then visit the national population commission, tell them about your birth certificate issues and someone might you by giving you an attestation of birth or something.

u should be able to get winter jacket and shoes in Mandillas or Yaba, at least get one b4 coming here u can get the others here, lool about food dont really know cos am not the cooking type, i only took about 2 big cartons of indomie with my other big box as KLM was smiling with me that day cos i took a big box and a ghana must go bag full of indomie which i think was over the limit. just hold about 200-300 pounds when coming, mastercard do work here as it helps in emergency especially the first few weeks if u lyk shopping. For opening of bank account over here, after registration u will get a document from school which would take lyk 3 days, so u will be able to open an account within a week or 2 maximum.

You can get a winter jacket very affordable in YABA market. For d MasterCard it can work over there too but the I also requested for a dollar MasterCard,
Thanks. Why request for a dollar mastercard? I feel it is useless considering the billing address will still reflect Nigeria.
I would rather use my naira mastercard than a dollar denominated one. It will be way cheaper that way.

If I elect not to cook at all how much do you suggest I budget weekly for feeding?
Though, I intend cooking my meals 80% of the time I also want to have a fair idea of my expenses as I intend to come 1week before resumption.
Secondly, my visa date started 13th December, 2013. Does that mean I can travel tomorrow if I wish? My resumption date is 20th Jan 2014 but I won't mind travelling to the UK to acclimatize and shop way before resumption if It won't be a issue.
My inlaws are leaving for London 29th Dec,2013 and I won't mind doing a quick pre-resumption tour with them.

Since u are a female, I doubt u eat much so i will suggest lyk 7-8 pounds a day, lol yeah u can even travel from that 14th of Dec and it's better u come earlier to get urself use to this weather and ur shopping cos it's really cold in Manchy and also to sort ur accommodation too.

Please don't let me pour cold water on your plans but please be aware.
A lot of the Uni will be on holiday from tomorrow untill New year.
This might make things difficult to get accomodation Etc.
Also if you are on your own and it's your first days then Christmas in a strange town can be very lonely.
With no friends or contacts it can be hard.
You might be better travelling after about the 5th Jan when things open again.

Bros, that is a fair amount o. What food will I be eating that will be "just" £8 for a whole 3 square meal? UK aint costly as I was made to believe then.
I found out a class mate of mine attends UoS so she has agreed to house me pending when I sort out my accommodation.
Please, I read on the emirate airline website their baggage allowance is 30kg.
This seem rather small compared to my younger sister that was allowed 2 bags of 23kg each(46kg in total) on Lufthansa when she was travelling to Hungary.
Any idea if this weight is strictly enforced? I will appreciate comments from anyone that have flown qatar or emirates as they both have 30kg as baggage allowance.
I will be flying to Manchester direct and my clothes alone will best the 30kg.

Actually, I may just travel 2nd week of Jan, sort out my accommodation and fly to meet my younger sibling in Hungary.
I guess getting a schegen visa won't be an issue if I apply now.
Na touring things before school resumes o.
