The much-anticipated 7-day Kogi International Carnival 2024 officially kicked off on December 1, 2024, with a vibrant and colorful opening ceremony at the Muhammadu Buhari Square in Lokoja, Kogi State.

The carnival, themed "Come, Experience, Explore, and Invest in the Confluence State," aims to unite the people, promote tourism, create job opportunities, and attract both local and international investments. The festival, which will take place simultaneously in Lokoja, Kabba, Okene, and Anyigba, promises to be an unforgettable experience with exciting performances by renowned local and international artists, cultural exhibitions, and traditional dance displays.

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, was represented by his Deputy, Joel Salifu Oyibo, who officially kicked off the carnival and expressed his admiration for the impressive organization of the event.

The Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon Mrs. Acharu Okpanachi, underscored the significance of the carnival in showcasing Kogi’s rich cultural heritage to the world and attracting potential investors.

Ayo Adeagho, Special Adviser to the President on Arts & Culture, and Fegho John Umunubo, Special Adviser to the President on Digital & Creative Economy, both commended Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for the realization of the carnival, praising the initiative's potential to boost tourism and the state’s cultural standing.

Prince Philip Orebiyi, leader of the Kogi International Carnival 2024 project team, described the event as "more than just a celebration," highlighting its importance in promoting cultural exchange, fostering community bonding, and showcasing Kogi State's unique attractions globally.

The carnival will feature a food festival, fashion shows, and workshops on art, music, and entrepreneurship. Governor Ododo, who expressed his appreciation to the visitors and organizers, promised to make substantial investments in the culture and tourism sectors, recognizing their vital role in enhancing the state's economic growth.

It doesn’t have to hold in Ilorin. Omu Aran, Offa etc are there. The Yoruba people in Kwara need to wake up. They need to take the capital away from Ilorin because of its intolerance. Or insist on creating their own state. The problem is that they are just too docile.
Ilorin is a state capital of a state with so many diverse people, languages, cultures and religions, which automatically will have these peopple living there for public service and other businesses

This kind of colourful carnival should be properly marketed to the world. Same thing as Ojude Oba festival.

Our art, culture & tourism industry can compete with any part of the world if properly developed.
