THE FIRST PROFESSOR IN NIGERIA! The first professor in Nigeria was Professor Kenneth Dike (1917-1983). He was a renowned historian and academic who made significant contributions to the field of African history and culture. Professor Dike was born in Awka, Anambra State, Nigeria, and received his early education in Nigeria and the United Kingdom. He earned his Ph.D. in history from the University of Aberdeen in 1950 and returned to Nigeria to teach at the University College, Ibadan (now the University of Ibadan). In 1956, Professor Dike became the first Nigerian to be appointed as a professor, serving as the Professor of History at the University of Ibadan. He was a pioneer in the field of African history and wrote several influential books, including "Trade and Politics in the Niger Delta" and "A Hundred Years of British Rule in Nigeria". Professor Dike's achievements and contributions to education and academia have been recognized and celebrated in Nigeria and beyond. He remains a celebrated figure in Nigerian history and an inspiration to generations of scholars and academics. SIGN Haliru Adamu Ahmed 1 Like

A historian is not a professor. If you are not a professor of STEM, then you are useless to mankind, womankind, boykind and girlkind. You are only useful to Transgenderkind 13 Likes |

These low minded ibos will dish out lies and try to validate it in their dull mind by claiming to be of another tribe or ethnic group. It's either they claim to be Hausa, Yoruba, Ibibio, Ijaw or foreigner. I think the low grade mind of a thing is genetic among them as one ipob will display folly and others in their large number will support it without thinking. |

simpleseyi: It's pure arrogance from you to say history as a discipline shouldn't produce profs, history medicine and philosophy were the first discipline to be taught, learned in conventional schools since the medieval times. In Nigeria for instance, history was the most prominent course on the 60s and 70s before proliferation of courses in social sciences and administration, though society have evolved and lots of innovative disciplines have pushed history to the background...history basically still remains the art and vehicle of studying changes in the society. |
