How does the Bible describe this beast?

9. The above passage is full of symbols. How can I understand it?

We need to allow the Bible to interpret its own symbols. We should expect that God, for our benefit, revealed within the Bible the meaning of these symbols. Therefore, what we need is some diligence in study to find their interpretation in the Bible. By such a method, we avoid all human conjecture and speculation.

The Bible actually condemns human conjecture and speculation because "no prophecy, is of any private interpretation" 2 Peter 1:20. The Bible defines its own symbols. For example, the book of Revelation contains 404 verses. Out of these 404 verses, 278 are found almost word for word in other books in the Bible, where their meaning is expounded.

Therefore, we encourage you to do as the Bible Bereans (see Acts 17:10, 11) and bring every teaching to the test of the Scripture. As, whoever will prayerfully study the Bible, desiring to know the truth, that he may obey it, will understand the Scriptures. "If any man will do His will, he shall know, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself. "John 7:17.


10. Which symbols do we need to unlock to identify the beast and his mark?

There are many symbols for the beast: nevertheless, we will suffice ourselves with those necessary to identify the beast. These symbols are 'beast', 'dragon', 'sea', 'forty-two months', and 'blasphemy'.

Beast: In Bible prophecy, a beast is a symbol of a king or kingdom. "These great beasts , which are four, are four kings , the fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom , " Daniel 7:17, 23. With this beast, we are studying a unique kingdom for it is not only a political power but a religious one as well, because people "worshipped the beast" Rev. 13:4.

Dragon:According to the Bible, the dragon is another name for Satan, the father of lies and deceptions, "the great dragon , called the Devil , and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world."This would mean that when Satan gave"his power, and his seat, and great authority"to the beast, we can expect the beast to behave in the same deceptively evil ways of Satan. Thus, a great deal of deception will be found in the affairs of the beast. Rev. 12:9; 13:2

Sea:In Bible prophecy, sea is symbol of a multitude of many different people.", The waters , are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues"Rev. 17:15. Accordingly, this unique kingdom or power rose out of the sea, signifying that it came out of a location in the world that was densely populated with different nationalities of people.

Forty-two months:This period is equivalent to three and half years (42 divided by 12 months). And the Bible was written based on the Jewish calendar where every Jewish year is 360 days (30 days for each month). So, three and half years and forty-two months are both equal to 1260 days. The reason why we are changing the months to their equivalent in days is that when God gave time prophecies, He often equated a day for a year ", even forty days , each day for a year, shall ye bear your iniquities, even forty years, " "I have appointed thee each day for a year "Numbers 14:34; Ezekiel 4:6.

Therefore, the forty-two prophetic months imply a period of 1260 years during which the beast was given, a "mouth speaking great things and blasphemies"and would"make war with the saints and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations"Rev. 13:5, 7, Meaning that during this period the beast would blaspheme, persecute Christians, and have great authority.

Blasphemy:In the Bible, blasphemy is defined in two ways. The first is when a person claims to be God or His representative. ", for a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God "John 10:33So the beast, this religio-political power and kingdom, has blasphemed God by pretending to be in the place of God on earth. The second way of committing blasphemy is by granting absolutions (claiming the power to forgive the sins of others). "Why doth this man thus speak blasphemies ? Who can forgive sins but God only?"Mark 2:7.

The beast, this religio-political power and kingdom, has blasphemed God not only by taking His place on earth, but also by claiming the rite of absolution. No wonder the beast has the "name of blasphemy" and speaks "blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name"; this is because the beast claims powers that are the sole prerogative of God. Rev. 13:1, 6,

Nine Key Marks
Having allowed the Bible to unlock the meaning of its own symbols we can now highlight the nine major identifying marks of the beast to determine which power in history fulfills these features. These are not the only identifiers: there are many more in the Bible. We hope this compilation of identifying keys will lead you to search the Bible to find out more.

(1) The beast combines religious and political power simultaneously, "they worshipped the beast , " Rev. 13:4.(2) The beast came to power in a densely populated area of the world,"I, saw a beast rise up out of the sea" Rev. 13:1.(3) The beast obtained its power and authority from Satan, thus we would expect its history to contain a great deal of deception,"the dragon gave him [the beast] his power, and his seat, and great authority" Rev. 13:2.(4) The beast ruled ruthlessly possessing absolute hegemony (domination) for 1260 years. To the honest in heart, there is but one answer: The Roman Catholic Church. The Roman Catholic Church is the beast which God, out of love, is warning us of. It is not the purpose of this article to attack Roman Catholics, but to reveal the truth about the Catholic system. No one need be offended, but rather be encouraged to seek for facts and confirmation.

11. Please support this conclusion with historical evidence and facts.

Let us take each identifier to see how history points exclusively to the Roman Catholic Church.

(1) The Roman Catholic Church combines religious and political power simultaneously:

Saint John saw this union in a prophetic vision concerning the fourth and final kingdom of the world and described it as, "a woman sit [ting] upon a scarlet coloured beast" Rev. 17:3.

In the Bible, a woman is a symbol of a church, "as a wife treacherously departeth from her husband, so have ye dealt treacherously with me, O house of Israel, saith the LORD." "For I, I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ" Jeremiah 3:20; 2 Corinthians 11:2.

In addition, it is unanimously understood in prophecy that a beast is a nation. Even in today's world, nations are symbolized as beasts. The USA is seen as an eagle, Russia is likened unto a bear, and China carries the image of a dragon.

Many years ago, God unveiled to Daniel all the world empires until the end of time. In a vision, Daniel saw the last beast to be "diverse from all the others" Daniel 7:19. But how would it be diverse? According to Revelation 17:3, as seen above, this beast (nation) will have a woman (church) ruling it.

Today, is there a church and state working together as one globally recognized power? The only entity in the world that has accomplished this is the Roman Catholic Church.

The Roman Catholic pope is absolute religious leader of over one billion followers world-wide.

"The Roman Pontiff, as the successor of Peter, is the perpetual and visible source and foundation of the unity both of the bishops and of the whole company of the faithful." Vatican Council II (1962-65)

"Every cleric must obey the Pope, even if he commands what is evil; for no one may judge the Pope." Pope Innocent III (1198-1216)

Simultaneously, the pope is king over the independent nation Vatican City. The Vatican is a distinct sovereign miniature nation, although within Italy. Thus, the papacy is a unique power combining religious and civil power.

(2) The Roman Catholic Church came to power in a densely populated area of the world:

This perfectly illustrates the Roman Catholic Church as she rose amidst the various powers and nations of Europe.

(3) The history of the Roman Catholic Church is full of deception:

Informed Catholics readily confirm forgeries as a way of life for the popes. Hans Kung, a Catholic priest and theologian who was a consultant to the Second Vatican Council (1962-1965), stated that as early as the fifth century, the popes "decisively extended their power with explicit forgeries." The Catholic Church: A Short History (translated by John Bowden), p. 61

One of the best examples is the document Donation of Constantine, dated March 30, 315 AD, which the Roman Catholic Church forged to extend her power and authority. Through this false document, Pope Stephen III in the eighth century convinced Pepin, king of the Franks, that the territories of the Lombards had been given by Constantine to the Roman Catholic Church. This led Pepin to fight the Lombards and usurp the cities for the pope. In 1440, this document was proven forged by a papal aide called Lorenzo Valla, yet pope after pope never admitted nor confessed this forgery. To this day, there is an inscription in the baptistery of St. John Lateran in Rome perpetuating this forged document.[/b]

(4) The Roman Catholic Church ruled ruthlessly for 1260 years having absolute dominion over other nations. This period has a clear starting point, and a 'deadly wound' at its end:

The Roman Catholic Church received its deadly wound in 1798 when [Pope Pius VI] was taken prisoner in France at the behest of Napoleon.

"In 1798 General Berthier made his entrance into Rome, abolished the papal government, and established a secular one." Encyclopedia Britannica, 1941 edition

Having established the end of the prophecy to be 1798, going back 1260 years, we arrive at 538 AD. For the papacy to fulfill this identifying mark, an important event must have occurred in 538 AD to mark the start of the 1260-year period.

Historical evidence reveals that in 533 AD the Roman Emperor Justinian recognized the pope's ecclesiastical supremacy as 'head' of all the churches in both east and west of the Roman Empire. However, it was not until 538 AD when the papacy was effectively freed from its last Arian opponent, the Ostrogoths (who were at that time ruling Italy) did the pope emerge as the leading figure in the West. Thus, in 538 AD the stage was set for the gradual but steady ascendancy of the papacy.

As the papacy increased in power, she subjugated not only her followers but also the rulers and kings of Europe. To that end, the popes issued several papal bulls to bolster their authority over the kings of Europe:

"It is the office of the papacy to tread under foot kings and emperors." J.H. Ignaz Dollinger, The Pope and the Council, (London), p. 35

"Fear, then, our wrath and the thunders of our vengeance; for Jesus Christ has appointed us [the popes] with his own mouth absolute judges of all men; and kings themselves are submitted to our authority." Pope Nicholas I (858-867 AD)

In the papal bull of Pope Gregory XI, dated 1372 AD, and entitled In Coena Domini, the pope pronounced papal dominion over the entire Christian world, secular and religious, and excommunicated all who failed to obey the popes and to pay them taxes. This papal bull was confirmed by subsequent popes and, in 1568 AD, Pope Pius V vowed that it was to remain an eternal law.

A practical demonstration of the above assertion was the treatment of Pope Gregory VII in 1077 AD to King Henry IV, Emperor of Germany. When the king appeared to disregard the pope's authority, the pope ex-communicated and dethroned him. Henry decided to make peace with the pope and crossed the Alps in mid-winter to humble himself. When he reached the pope's castle, Henry was made to wait for permission to see the pope in the outer court, bare-footed with his head uncovered, and dressed in a miserable dress. It took the king three days of fasting and confession before the pope pardoned him.

Today, this claim of supremacy over leaders of the world continues to be upheld by the papacy:

"The First See [papacy of Rome] is judged by no one. It is the right of the Roman Pontiff himself alone to judge, those who hold the highest civil office in a state, There is neither appeal nor recourse against a decision or decree of the Roman Pontiff." The Code of Canon Law (Paulist Press, 1985), pp. 951, 271

(5) The Roman Catholic Church persecuted Christians during the 1260-year period:

During this period of history (also known as the Middle Ages), the Roman Catholic Church held a strong sway over Europe, and every citizen was required to be a Roman Catholic. Anything short of total submission to the pope was punishable by torture or death. This led the Roman Catholic system to become one of the most persecuting religions the world has ever known, according to Vicars of Christ: the Dark Side of the papacy, by Peter de Rosa, p. 180

In the Catholic Encyclopedia, Vol. 12, page 266, the reader will find a lengthy article describing the authority of the Roman Catholic Church in punishing 'heretics', whose only crime was that they were faithful Bible-believing Christians.

(6) The Roman Catholic Church will fully recover from its 'deadly wound' and the whole world will wonder after it:

When Pope Pius VI died in captivity in France in 1799, the world expected an end to the Roman Catholic Church. However, God had told us about 2000 years ago that the beast would recover from its deadly wound. Here is how the New York Times reported the healing of the beast, the papacy:

"MORTAL WOUND HEALED: Rome, June 7.--From 11 o'clock this morning there was another sovereign independent State in the world. At that time Premier Mussolini , exchanged with Cardinal Gasparri, Papal Secretary of State, representing Pope Pius XI, ratifications of the treaties signed at the Lateran Palace on Feb. 11. By that simple act the sovereign independent State of Vatican City came into existence." New York Times, July 7, 1929

The San Francisco Chronicle reported the 'recovery' of the papacy as follows:

The official title of the pope is "Vicarius Filii Dei", which translated is, "Representative of the Son of God". To confirm, the Catholic newspaper Our Sunday Visitor of April 18, 1915 wrote: "The engraved letter on the pope's Mitre is as follows: 'Vicarius Filii Dei '". Since in Latin certain letters have numerical values, we only need to add them up to come to 666.

Keeping the Sabbath has been some sort of a hot debate in some Christian Churches like the 7th day adventist. Read Col 2:14-16. I don't think worshiping on Sunday, instead of Saturday is a transgression of God's new law for Christians.

Interesting piece of video indeed!

The strange thing though is that Islam will have to bow under the Anti-Christ system, although it doesn't seem possible now. How it does look is that the peoples of Islam will stop at nothing to see the whole world becoming Moslems.

So we are subject to a lot of information out there that can be overwhelmingly confusing. And it all appears to be true to some, or for now the majority from both the Moslems and the christians.

The video brought out a point about the Moslems believing that the anti-Christ will lead the jews and christians alike. In a sense that is true. In actual fact the true anti-christ will come from the realms of christianity, or what we call christianity. Unfortunately what we percieve christianity to be today is a far cry from what Christ intended for it to become. I know I will be taken to task for saying that, but so be it.

Listen to what the bible says about the influence of the anti-christ:

Revelation 13:3,4, And all the world marveled and followed the beast. 4 So they worshiped the dragon who gave authority to the beast; and they worshiped the beast, saying, “Who is like the beast? Who is able to make war with him?”

There is no question. It says the whole world will be led by the system and I dare say that will include Moslems as well. Whether or not they are inclined to accept it is quite another story, and time as well as history has already shown that the bible can be trusted on this matter.

But the crucial matter is how to define and reveal the true anti-christ. This is where Satan tries to ubscure the truth. He sends out his false prophets to decieve the masses.

The common bond that will unite the world under the system, excepting of course the true believers, would be the mark. Once again there are confusing teachings concerning the mark because in truth and in fact if one doesn't know how to identify the beast, or anti-christ, then how would one be able to identify the mark?   One must precede the other for all logical purposes.

Only history can confirm prophecy. Two major prophets have spoken of an end-time anti-christ at length, and these are:

a) Daniel

b) John

Daniel spoke about the anti-christ from the perspective of world kingdoms. In chapter 2 he introduces 4 kingdoms including Babylon, being the first, which would have been followed by three others in the order that history has revealed them.

In Daniel 7 he does the same thing using animals as symbols, but this time he goes into more details about the 4th kingdom, and a power(;ittle horn power) that would arise from the 4th kingdom. It is this power that we need to identify carefully, because if we don't we would have made the gravest mistake in our lifetime.

So in essence Daniel saw the kingdoms in this order:

1. Babylon (605 BC - 539BC)

2. Media-Persian (twin kingdom) but mostly called Persia being the dominant of the two. (539BC- 331 BC)

3. Greece (331 BC - 168 BC)

4. Rome ( 168BC - 476 AD)

What came after Rome or the 4th kingdom had Daniel very concerned and this is how he described it, 7 “After this I saw in the night visions, and behold, a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, exceedingly strong. It had huge iron teeth; it was devouring, breaking in pieces, and trampling the residue with its feet. It was different from all the beasts that were before it, and it had ten horns. 8 I[b] was considering the horns, and there was another horn, a little one, coming up among them[/b], before whom three of the first horns were plucked out by the roots. And there, in this horn, were eyes like the eyes of a man, and a mouth speaking pompous words.

In Daniel 2 the four metals represented 4 kingdoms, while the 10 toes represented the broken fragments of Rome which we call europe today. In Daniel 7, three known animals and one un-identified creature represented the same world kingdoms. The un-identified creature had 10 horns which also represented the 10 smaller kingdoms or states that would come after Rome's demise.

Notice something else. Daniel spoke of another 11th horn, that had a mouth and eyes of a man, "And there, in this horn, were eyes like the eyes of a man, and a mouth speaking pompous words."

Daniel continued, 19 “Then I wished to know the truth about the fourth beast, which was different from all the others, exceedingly dreadful, with its teeth of iron and its nails of bronze, which devoured, broke in pieces, and trampled the residue with its feet; 20 and the ten horns that were on its head, and the other horn which came up, before which three fell, namely, that horn which had eyes and a mouth which spoke pompous words, whose appearance was greater than his fellows."

The angel explains the vision to Daniel, "The fourth beast shall be  A fourth kingdom on earth, Which shall be different from all other kingdoms,  And shall devour the whole earth,  Trample it and break it in pieces. 24 The ten horns are ten kings Who shall arise from this kingdom.  And another shall rise after them; He shall be different from the first ones, And shall subdue three kings. 25 He shall speak pompous words against the Most High, Shall persecute the saints of the Most High, And shall intend to change times and law. Then the saints shall be given into his hand For a time and times and half a time.

So this is it. Clear as crystal. The 11th horn power that came from the 4th beast, and that grew up among the 10 horns, or european kingdoms, would uproot three kingdoms and persecute God's people, and think to change, or attempt to change God's set times and laws.

History has made it abundantly clear who and what this 11th horn power is. Ever wondered why the Roman catholic organization has attached the word Roman to its name. Ever wondered when the Roman pontifs came off the scene after rome's demise who ruled europe? This little horn, as we shall have occasion to notice more fully hereafter, was the papacy. The three horns plucked up by the roots represented the Heruli, the Ostrogoths, and the Vandals. The reason for their removal was their opposition to the teachings and claims of the papal hierarchy.

Daniel beheld this power making war upon the saints. Has such a war been waged by the papacy? Millions of martyrs answer, Yes. Witness the cruel persecutions of the Waldenses, the Albigenses, and Protestants in general, by the papal power.

Likewise three arian powers or nations that upheld such teachings were completely anhilated from the map. No where are they to be found. The papacy ensured under the leadership of the pope that anyone teaching anything other than what the church stood for would be crushed.

I don't desire to take up too much time going into details, but one thing is sure all signs are pointing to the RCC as the "little horn power" History cannot lie. Today we see how the RCC is conducting its business. May God have mercy on you! You have been deceived to the extent that you have gone against what you don't know. Your attack on Roman Catholic is an evidence that devil is at work. Jesus Christ prayed that His church may be one and the gate of hell cannot prevail against it. There is no other church that is one today except the Catholic Church. That oneness is the reason every catholic has to listen to Pope who is the visible head of the Christian faith today. Jesus Christ also said at the end of time devil will deceive many, if possible, even the elect. We know devil has deceived a lot of people and that is why we see different denominations springing up claiming that they have the truth. The truth is that they have failed to spread the original teachings which was handed over by Christ and the Apostles either by way of epistle or tradition. Get this portion of bible - brethren stand fast and hold the traditions which you were taught, whether by word or our epistle (II Thessalonians 2 vs 15). The traditions are what Catholics does and you question if they are in the Bible. The last book of John has stated that not everything Christ did was recorded down in the bible, so I believe those that are not recorded are the traditions you question if they are in the bible. The elects are the original chosen ones which I called the Catholic and its followers. I’m sorry to say this, Jehovah Witness has been in the forefront of attacking Pope and the Catholics, but they covered their faces in shame when Pope John Paul died. They saw both the Muslims and the entire world testified the good work of the late humble servant of God. Since Pope’s death, they hardly write anything again against Catholic Church. Some have gone to say that Catholic Church burned many bibles. Yes, Catholic Church did that, but the bibles they burnt were written by Stephen Langston and his Co because they were faulty. There is no amount of criticism that will move Catholic Church from the truth. Some churches claimed they read bible. If I may ask, who wrote the bible? Catholic Church. It is surprising that some churches that sprouted up yesterday began to question the power of Catholic Church which has been into existence before the birth of the grandfathers of the so-called founders of those churches. They question the very church that wrote the bible they claim they are following. We all know their greed and Satan has continued to blindfold their followers that resist the known truth. Referring Pope as the beast is clearly the seen against the Holy Spirit. That is resisting the known truth. Tomorrow somebody will rise and claim God has called him, the next thing is to open his own church. Why not be there and serve the God that called you? If Catholic Church is the problem, why many churches today? At least we should have had 2 – five churches. The sins of those deceived will be on the Pastors, and they that allowed themselves to be deceived will also be held responsible. Some have been asking why Catholic Priests forgive sins. (Go to John Chapter 20 vs 21-23) Where Jesus greeted his Apostles and said peace be with you. The sins you forgive are forgiven, the ones you retain are retained. Come inside Catholic Church and know what is happening. You can't be outside and know what is happening. You talk about burning of incense – Luke 1 vs 9-11 The Priest Zachariah was burning Incense when the Angel of God appeared to him. Again Revelation 8vs 2-4 – The Angels of God burning Incense in heaven. So, for the fact that there are those burning incense at the altar of Satan does not invalidate the burning of Incense before God.
