MUMU, see the reason below

"Because members of their National Assembly are not taking home 300 million naira monthly - and, also because their President is not planning to spend 1 billion naira on his feeding in 2012."

@t 1025 Perhaps good luck jonathan is right

The newly appointed managing director of the International Monetary Fund, Christine Lagarde ordered the governments of Nigeria, Guinea, Cameroon, Ghana and Chad to relinquish vital fuel subsidies. Much to the dismay of the population of these nations, the prices of fuel and transport have near tripled over night without notice, causing widespread violence on the streets of the Nigerian capital of Abuja. Much like the IMF induced riots in Indonesia during the 1997 Asian Financial Crisis, public discontent in Nigeria is channelled towards an incompetent and self-serving domestic elite, compliant to the interests of fraudulent foreign institutions.

Like so many other nations, Nigerian people have suffered from a systematically reduced living standard after being subjected to the IMF’s Structural Adjustment Policies (SAP). Before a loan can be taken from the World Bank or IMF, a country must first follow strict economic policies, which include currency devaluation, lifting of trade tariffs, the removal of subsidies and detrimental budget cuts to critical public sector health and education services.

As the United States African Command (AFRICOM) begins to gain a foothold into the continent with its troops officially present in Eritrea and Uganda in an effort to maintain security and remove other theocratic religious groups such as the Lord’s Resistance Army, the sectarian violence in Nigeria provides a convenient pretext for military intervention in the continuing resource war. For further insight into this theory, it is interesting to note that United States Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania conducted a series of African war game scenarios in preparation for the Pentagon’s expansion of AFRICOM under the Obama Administration.

In the presence of US State Department Officials, employees from The Rand Corporation and Israeli military personnel, a military exercise was undertaken which tested how AFRICOM would respond to a disintegrating Nigeria on the verge of collapse amidst civil war. The scenario envisioned rebel factions vying for control of the Niger Delta oil fields (the source of one of America’s top oil imports), which would potentially be secured by some 20,000 U.S. troops if a US-friendly coup failed to take place At a press conference at the House Armed Services Committee on March 13, 2008, AFRICOM Commander, General William Ward then went on to brazenly state the priority issue of America’s growing dependence on African oil would be furthered by AFRICOM operating under the principle theatre-goal of “combating terrorism”.

Nigerians, as per fuel subsidy, should leave Ghanaians alone and face their own shite. Their situation is very different to our situation. For one thing, what most Nigerians who support subsidy removal do not understand is that Government enjoys far more yearly subsidy than the N1.4 trillion they lie claim will be "saved" from fuel subsidy removal.

Indeed the Nigerian Government is without doubt the most subsidised in the entire world !!!!! Ghana does not have same anti-human and evil practice in place whereby a very small number of people subsidize themselves massively at the expense of 99.9% of the population. Why can Government subsidy, serving a few and extending into trillions, cannot go ASAP yet it is N300-N500 billion, revised upward fradulently to N1.4 trillion, that must go immediately and completely? Nigerians think for god sake !!!

If Ghanaians were in the predicament of Nigerians, I believe they will protest because, over the years, they have , IMO, become more politically sophisticated than Nigerians. they certainly have their issues but are less emotional than Nigerians when it comes to politics IMO. They, for example, won't be falling for any ruse to vote in anyone claiming to have gone without food for a week or swam to school as a boy. They will simply look at your record and argue about it to death. I have seen it in motion , during their elections, for myself.

It is only fools dat made such comments by comparing Ghana with Nigeria at the moment. D same fools still go ahead to vomit rubish out of their mouth dat Nigerians are lazy. Maybe its ur family members dat are lazy. Nonsense!

Was gonna add to the above---- so Gbawe, the fact Ghana people don't protest for anything is due to sophistication. grin grin Can i ask if you think that the wall streets protests in America and other protests in Europe are due to the fact that the American and European electorate are less sophisticated than  Ghana people ?

No. I am saying they are not protesting because their situation is nowhere near as dire as ours. They will protest if faced with what we are facing because I consider them more politically sophisticated than Nigerians to the extent they will rise up to the challenge of resisting very punitive policies of Government. I did not say they are more sophisticated overall, if that is what you are thinking, but Nigerians should give Ghanaians their dues when it comes to politics. There is no honest Nigerian conversant with the politics of Ghana and Nigeria who will disagree with that.

Ghana people are more politically savvy than their Nigerian counterpart, during the last elections, the outgoing president was trying to do divide and rule, they saw through it sharp sharp and threw his government out.

I have been visiting Ghana for a few years now and as a matter of fact I have been in Ghana since November 2011 till date.
As per why no fuss with the increment, the most fundamental reason is TRUST. The government has gained trust from the governed because you can see where the little money they have is going.

The expenditure of the presidency in Ghana is less than what Nigeria spend on LGA chairman at least I saw the president come to open a new bank in February 2010. No bloated entourage and security. No one blocked the main road few meters from where he was making his speech at the Independence Avenue.
The problem of Nigeria is twisted values, here in Ghana the poor is respected as much as the rich so who cares if you are a billionaire.

Nigerians know its nice to remove the subsidy but cannot trust the government to use the money for any meaningful change and you couldn't blame them judging from the past and even present.

Lets make ill-gotten wealth unattractive as a people and everything will fall in place. Nigerians are tough people but not stupid!

Pressure Group Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG) will hit the streets again January 25 in a demonstration they have christened Atta-Wayo.

The group is lamenting what they say is the strangling fuel price hikes by the governing National Democratic Congress.

The National Petroleum Authority announced a 15-20 per cent price hikes in fuel products beginning January.

Key government officials including the president and his vice have supported the increases.

President John Mills at his encounter with journalists and editors on Monday explained that increasing fuel prices was one of the most painful decisions he had to make, but it was a necessary evil.

He contended that subsidies paid on petroleum products are so huge it was affecting government’s ability to provide other basic social amenities to the people.

He stressed the removal of the subsidies will enable government to channel the resources into other productive areas.

But AFAG claims the president has been dishonest in the fuel politics.

At a press conference to announce the January 25 demonstration, a leading member of the group, Abu Ramadan said the posture of the NDC since coming into power from January 2009 is unacceptable.

He insisted monies accrued out of the sale of illegal margins imposed by the NPA on petroleum products could be used to defray the cost of subsidies.

“What has happened to the monies up to the tune of 690 million cedis lodged at Ecobank as a result of the illegal margins on petroleum product price build-up. Is this not able to provide over 20 years of relief as subsidies on petroleum products to Ghanaians?” he quizzed.

“…We are happy to announce to you AFAG’s Atta Wayo demo to be held in Accra on Wednesday 25th of January 2012.”
