Dear Seun, I can't take this anymore. I thought I could get used to it, but it is not as organized as the previous format. Even if you are going to continue with this format, kindly organize everything into blocks like the previous where one could easily see needed information. Having all the information as per topics put closely together makes it difficult to read. The way the threads look are kind of confusing rather than to enjoy. Try and pick the good stuff from the previous one and add to this one so that we can continue to enjoy NL. Believe it or not, your competitors are going to capitalize on your set back. The forum is for people complaining and not for you. |

Azibalua: Pls can some of us use the former version Unfortunately, this is all but impossible. The former version runs on a different programming language (PHP) and has a different database structure. We will do our best to make this one more lovable. Many apologies about the shock and inconvenience of the sudden switch. |

Yes, change is inevitable. But there is good change and bad change. Case in point; the Range Rover. Since inception, that car never lost its basic design. Even the new Evoque still has the same traditional RR lines. I feel NL2 is trying to be too much of too many things. A poster said somewhere here that we should keep our own identity on NL. Seun has done an amiable job with NL, but this new look doesn't seem to cut it. |

I'm sorry Seun, but this is just nonfunctional and downright ugly! I've been trying my hardest to see the good in this [no pun in tended] but my eyes are too strained. I like certain new features like the "Add friends" option but other than that I see no purpose in the layout being as it is. Visually speaking, it's just not practical. Even as I type this, I can't even see or read the comments below my reply box--everything is just white! I wanted to reply to a thread the other day and it took me a couple of hours before I realized that I could "quote" people in order to reply, but the problem with that was that when I wanted to quote multiple people it FORCED me to open multiple tabs on my browser just so I could copy and paste the comment onto the initial reply box I was using. Honestly, that is just too much work just to reply to ONE THREAD!!! I also don't like the idea that when I click on some threads I've replied to in the past, I am automatically following it. I shouldn't have to always be clicking 'unfollow' every time I want to reply to something. I noticed that quite a few people asked if it would be possible to make the old version accessible to those who wanted it--that to me seems like an excellent idea that I think you should at least think about. And, it appears that some of the features such as the fonts, sizing, bold, italics aren't working. When I tried to use those features, nothing appeared and for whatever reason clicking on it and scrolling up and down the page was causing everything that I wrote to be copied and pasted. So unfortunately, I had to type those things [bolding words, italicizing words, and putting in the fonts] on my own, meaning I added them in! It just seems like such a hassle. If I wanted to be frustrated and bothered in such a manner, I would have opened up Dreamweaver and annoyed myself. The color scheme as a whole is a bit much. Not that I'm saying you need to be like other social networking sites and forums but take a good look at their layout and color schemes. There actually is a science to color schemes on social networking sites and forums. Please consider taking a look at these links → http://www.onextrapixel.com/2010/11/25/what-does-your-websites-color-scheme-reveal-about-you/ and http://www.1stwebdesigner.com/design/color-psychology-website-design/ I came across an interesting article that highlights 11 common web design mistakes (blunders) that web designers and developers make. One aspect of the article that truly stuck out to me was when the author wrote "Building a website can be daunting but the real challenge lies in making it usable. The problem is most web designers forget that the website wasn’t created for themselves but to solve the users’ needs. They give creativity priority over practicality and usability." The author points out 11 mistakes which include [but I'm sure are not limited to]: the need for a search box, poor readability and legibility, unorganized content layout, bad navigation, inconsistent interface design, unfriendly screen resolution, complicated registration forms, unscrupulous use of images/animations [I've never seen you use this so I personally don't believe that it applies to you], cluttered pages/more whitespace, background music [once again, this doesn't apply to you, although the the idea of background music on Nairaland cracks me up], and finally, last but not least, test, test and test [I don't know if that is the stage you're on, but I really think you need to KEEP re-testing!]. That’s bottom line, like the author points out, "if it’s simple, it’s usable. All in all, great websites keep it simple and usable. Do your homework and it comes easy and naturally. Initially after using Nairaland 2.0, I was VERY frustrated [and still am!!!!] to the point where I actually considered not posting [but still reading content on the site] or succumb to my dislike for this new layout and not coming back at all. I know I am just one voice among many but with all seriousness, this seems like a MAJOR downgrade rather than an upgrade. I have had to do assignments in class which include web design and developing websites so I know its no easy task so I understand that that developing a site like Nairaland isn't something that everyone can do. I just hope that you take the time out to heart people out and try to look at things from their point of view as consumers of this site, so please consider their opinions from various angles. By the way, this was the article that I was referencing → http://www.hongkiat.com/blog/11-common-mistakes-blunders-in-web-design/ 2 Likes |

As a computer scientist, I have 2 advice for you: 1. This site is 'too' colourful, You went against the 1st rule in designing a website - Know ur audience. You could be forgiven if you made the site for children, because this look childish(immature) . If its not for children then the interface is Poor 2. It takes years to build a reputation. I'll use an illustration my lecturer loved to use; he says: it takes years to get a reasonable traffic(to a website) but days to loose it. You made the site for us, therefore WE & not YOU must like the site 1 Like |

Still waiting for the preview button. Also, here is a suggestion. Maybe alternative colour schemes could be made available for users to set along with their profiles. 1 Like |

personally i don't like the rounded edges...makes everything look clunky. thats retro style man..look at google plus and Facebook or leading forums in general..sharp edged spaces emphasise the minimalist look, which is what i think you were going for. i like the centralised layout though..that will catch on quickly even though im still getting used to it. i also think you used too many colours. NL is content driven, with that in mind, most visual elemnets should be neutral in terms of colour and shape(as any other thing would disrupt the user exp. we have come to know and love)...two areas which i think should have been left untouched. 1 Like |

To be honest Seun, whoever suggested to you that this new look of Nairaland is better than the previous one has a problem. It took me almost one week to login and that was after I went and re-set my password. Even with that I still had to login with my e-mail address. Unlike the old look which was much easier, I can hardly find posts its like any post I make is gone for ever. . . please do something we need the old look back. I would suggest that you learn from lucky igbenedion of Edo state who despite the high level of development, maintained the old look in his state and the elderly men praised him for that. Seun we want the bushes, the grasses, the untarred roads, we prefer to use candles at night, wells where our girls can fetch water and the rafia palm huts where we can lay our heads. please this new city life sucks, we don't want it. |

Seun: Errrmm, just randomly checked about 10 different forums and not one of them start from zero. Anyway, I see you are improving with the tweaking. All you could have done is to recreate the old format and incorporate some of these features like quote post, like, follow and unfollow. You'd have saved yourself sleepless nights. |

We changed the backend completely. We switched from SMF. But yeah, we could have duplicated the look if we wanted to, but I felt that it was best to use the opportunity to target the fast-growing mobile demographic, so we built a flexible theme that works on both mobile phones and personal computers. It's a pity that we have not been able to test the theme well on some phones. |

What's the point in compromising desktop user experience when apps and browsers are being developed everyday to view websites in desktop mode on mobile devices? You and I know this is hideous and your reputation is at stake with this development. At this time and age who put links on forums like a chat room or internet relay chat in order to satisfy fast-growing mobile demographic? I think you need to go back to the drawing board, if need be, change the database schema again and entice people back here. The resources here are invaluable and accessible to people worldwide not Nigerian mobile users only. |
