I weep for Nigeria because Some thing is fundamentally wrong with it. Before we go on we need to realize we're all human beings with blood, feelings, hopes, aspirations, and most importantly, right to life.

Brothers, hate is not the answer. Please put yourself in the shoes of these refugees for a moment before you ask for an ungodly solution to their plight. I understand the reservations people have with this whole refugee thing considering the unending violence that seems to follow Fulani cattle herders but thats enough to debase a fellow human.

Any man can be a refugee - it could happen to you, it happened to the Jews in 1939-45 so dont think you're immuned to it. What worries me more is that whatever caused this crisses will not be looked at - we will move on like nothing happened until it happens again. I know most people in the South, including me, dont have much sympathy for core north, but at times like this we need to step back and understand we're talking about human life. Sending those refugees back in a hurry could result in massive loss of lives. I expect the Gov of C/R state to gradually relocate them back to their states when their safety is assured.

Now, lets dig deeper into the problem. What and/or who caused the refugee situation? Is it political, religious, ethnic, or is it diminishing resource? Who is most affected? what is been done by Govt and Fulani leaders to arrest/forestall future crisses?

You know, there may never be a straight answer to the above questions because the truth is probably somewhere b/w religion, politics, ethicity, and poverty. Considering Nigerian Govt's ignoble track record in saving her citizens, I would expect the leadership of Hausa-Fulani to save their people. Expecting the Govt to do her duties in Nigeria is a waste of time. Nigeria will not provide ranches for cattles and as long cattles are grazing in the open field/farms, Fulanis may be the newest endangered species.

Its time for Fulanis to recalibrate their mode of survival to avoid this impending catastrophe. Nigerian people are fighting over leftover resources and this is affecting how we the next person or group - we see them as enemy. While we're free by law to move as we deem fit, in practice its different and I expect Fulani leadership to understand that and save their people. Grazing in the open field in Nigeria is a recipe for disaster. Lets find a working solution rather than hate, kill, and maim.

You can see how extremely ignorant you are. The Fulani cattle rearers never claim any land , they are perhaps the only group in Nigeria that " owning land " is strange to them. They graze their cattle and move on. They don't see any reason they should lay claim to land. if you can show me any Fulani herdsman who owns land you will be better than Mungo Park ( who discovered your village).

fulani don't claim land? please explain the following;

adamawa state:
girei local govt. indigeneous people -BWATIYE. those laying claim -FULANI

plateau state:
wase local govt. indigeneous people -TAROK. those laying claim -FULANI & HAUSA

jos north local govt. indigeneous people -ANAGUTA,AFIZERE,BEROM. those laying claim -HAUSA & FULANI

shendam local govt. indigeneous people -GOEMAI. those laying claim -HAUSA & FULANI

kwara state:
ilorin. indigeneous people -YORUBA. those laying claim -FULANI

nasarawa state:
lafia local govt. indigeneous people -EGGON. those laying claim HAUSA & KANURI

kaduna state:
kaduna city. indigeneous people -SOUTHERN KD PEOPLE. those laying claim HAUSA & FULANI

chikun local govt.indigeneous people kufara community . those laying claim FULANI!

and mallam please note that in most of these cases (about 80%) the claims have led to much violence

Your comments are most sensible almost devoid of hatred for other human beings, even the hated fulanis. But I wonder why you think it's Fulani leaders and not the various ( levels) of governments that should find a solution to the open grazing problems of the herdsmen? Are we ruled by tribes? I thought Nigeria was a federal republic with 3 tiers of elected government. Why should tribes preside over citizens' socioeconomic problems? What about the legislature and the security apparatus that watches as lives are taken on a minute to minute basis?

these abokis don't cease to amaze me. whenever there is a religious mass killings crisis in the north against southerners, the southerners move back to the south. now that a crisis is happening involving two northern groups fulani and tiv, the fulani moved south instead of north! undecided

Why don't all the Igbos in the North move back to SE? And Cross River people move back to their state of origin? As long as they're Nigerians - they can live anywhere they want to live, as long as they are peaceful.

I'm from Lagos State - and how would you react if we the REAL LAGOSIANS ask everyone who is not yoruba to leave Lagos?

Nwanne mu, I'm seriously puzzled. Nobody has come up with plausible explanation on why they should smuggle these fulanis to the south in the middle of the night. As far as I'm concerned, their intention is malicious. Why not Sokoto where there are large expanse of land? Besides, Sokoto is the seat of their spiritual leader(the caliphate). Why move them to the hostile south? Anybody that tolerates this soft invasion must have his head examined. Any student of history will tell you that this is their first phase of invasion. Nobody should argue that we should tolerate them on compassion basis. No Way!
I see them for what they are. They are the first wave of invasion force. Also, anybody that thought that their stay will be temporary should book an appointment with his neurologist tomorrow. I'm worried about this development because I might wake up one day and hear that they have migrated to Ebonyi too. These people should be sent back to the north. We can't tolerate them here.

Aha Dalu chineke. I am now glad there are alot states that separate Delta from Cross River.

Nna dalu. Sucks for Akwa-ibom, Ebonyi, Abia and co.

Something sounds fishy about this whole thing: why were they sent downwards to SS? North has more land mass than SS,wouldn't it be better to migrate them into neighboring North state; hmm, something smells fishy. Imo cross river should transport them back up north but start a fund to help them. This way una helping those in need while at the same time protecting the citizen within your region.

Why is the motive for escorting these fulanis in the midnight?
Did their state govts discuss modalities for sending these fulanis to CR before they did?
Does it mean the south are no longer infidels that they want to come and dump their infested bodies down here?

Imoke why should u discuss anything before sending them back like they informed you before coming?
These hausa fulanis people hav kill enough and there presence stink.

There are hundreds/thousands of Fulani herdsmen in the SE/SS already. Why should the army escort 4000 of this new arrivals to C/River when there could be murderers among them?
There's calm in the North so they should have been relocated to the North and I don't see the need to relocate them to the South if there's no hidden motive behind it. I'll see how Imoke will handle this impending disaster. Before you know it, people will start dying in C/River, Ebonyi and Abia States.

nagoma, by law the bolded is true. In a nation of laws the govt will swing into action long before you see this kind of crises becuase they would've done a comprehensive study on the importance and implications of open grazing. In a modern nation no citizen would be made a refugee, paraded naked on the street for illicit sexual act, killed because of his faith, have no running water from cradle to grave, we can go on and on, in fact in a working nation there would be no need for Arewa, Ohaneze, or Afenifere.

The point is - govt has been failing since 1966, right even before the civil war, and based on that our people has been evolving and surviving outside any expectations from the govt. If the govt could not stop the massive loss of lives of the easterners in 1966 what would make me believe they will come to my aid in future. The beginning of wisdom for any Nigerian is when he or she realizes their is no govt to call for help.

In summary, there is no govt in Nigeria hence the call for the Fulani leadership to find a way for the continued existence of their people. Its a shame we have to do that but what other option does the average Fulani cattle owner in the jungle has? Waiting on the govt could mean death for the poor Fulani. If you remember, during the infamous Boko Haram massacre in Kano many Igbo bus owners had to choose life of their people over profit, and graciously sent buses to bring some of their willing brothers home.

Fulani leadership should recalibrate their mode of survival in Nigeria because their niche is dangerously overlapping with other peoples'. I understand its the govt's job to find this much needed balance between overlaps but in situation where the govt has consistently shown a high degree of incapability what do you do? - you're right - Find solution on your own - this is why I call the leadership of Fulani to do something about how their people produce our meat before their people become meat, sad but true.

On the current refugee issue, I do not support sending those poor fellows back to their homeland so quick because they're Fulani, its insane for anybody to suggest that. The govt of CR state can secure the location of those poor refugees until things calm down. As soon as there's assurance that the refugees wont be attacked then CR state can start their relocation back to Benue. I believe more people in the south have probably used political assylum/refugee to gain entrance into other countries than Fulani people. Lets do unto others what....?

Governments simply need to mandate the use of barbed wire fencing in farms.

America's 'Fulani Problem' (Cowboys) and Argentina's 'Fulani Problem' (Gauchos) were both solved by fencing off large swathes of land to cut off migration paths and force them to settle. Yes they can use main roads for migration but cattle can be prevented from eating your tubers. They'll be forced to comply.

the other solution is for Nigerian states in the south to actually create special compensation laws to protect farmers from herders. Herders should lose proportionate portion of their herds when they eat people's crops. 1 yam = 1 head of cattle. Simple.

The Igbos and Yorubas who agreed on this thread, did so stupidly. If fulanis can't live in Cross River - why are Igbos in Kano and Lagos, and Yorubas in Jos and Kaduna?

The point is not that fulanis cant live in CR. If u go to Calabar u will find whole communities of hausa and fulani people e.g bogobiri community. The C/Riverians as ive said earlier are hospitable to strangers and every Nigerian has the right to live anywhere in Nigeria. But ill ask u a question: If u lived in a tiny one room apartment with limited funds and suddenly u were sent 40 homeless and potentially troublesome relatives to live with u, no matter how sympathetic u are to their cause how would u respond? Especially in the light of the fact that u have a brother who lives in a mansion with lots of empty bedrooms and who shares more in common with these 40 homeless relatives? Would it not be reasonable to suggest they move in with ur brother instead?

The fulanis are Nigerians and have a right to live and live anywhere but certainly not such a large number concentrated in a small community. Besides u must understand our misgivings. These pple believe we are infidels and have no right to our beliefs and are promised rewards if they kill us. What right thinking man would open his house to people with this kind of thinking. If we were wicked we would have killed them in their sleep upon arrival. But we are not. We are only reasonable people trying to protect ourselves and that is why we say they must be accomodated somewhere else.
