My reasons are, 1,Mtn don't give delivery reports for sms as of 2003, that's a disgrace of the highest order.They do now.
2,Mtn rings for less than 30 seconds, just a few seconds better than flashing. So even their caller tune is useless since about 20sec of the song is all u hear. Another rip off of the century
3,MTN everywhere you go, that's the biggest joke of all time, once u move outta Lagos people prefer to use Glo. Mtn is just an illusion in some places. I was in Unilorin, two months ago. The area i stayed once it's evening then u can't make calls with Mtn again, it's either u can't connect or u can't hear what the other person is saying. But Celtel was excellent there.
4,Gprs, Mtn gprs is a complete fraud, it's unstable and very slow, and still the most expensive in the WORLD! At 60kobo per kb.
5, 419, Mtn are the biggest crooks of our time, very dubious but ya'll wont notice. They were the first to say per second billings wont be possible, but glo did and others joined.if MTN was the only network in Nigeria, calls would be at 100naira per minute.
6,MTN extracool, did anyone notice they've cancelled the Family and friends on that package without informing anyone. Yes they did, that's why it's possible for u to change family and friends number on extra cool free, but it's not working. Family and friends is strictly for extra connect now and other postpaid packages.This is another dubious act.
7, MTN Nigeria got the most expensive call rates both National and international, do your calculations and u find out.
More to come, I use my MTN for three things free browsing when my celtel is down, free night calls when i gotta talk for long,free mms when i feel like, so I don't pay MTN for anything, I'm gonna milk their ass

Most of the reasons u gave are very unrealistic and untrue. Remember, no be only u dey use mtn oo. Try and be truthful and if not be objective. Celtel has the most expensive call rate; mtn started this huge price slash before all other network follow suit. I also got a text discontinuing the use of my family & friends on xtra cool!. Have u ever tried browsing with Glo ;? hmmm dont even go there. Am saying this becos i use mtn gprs to browse even connect it to my laptop.

Maybe, if u learn to stop looking for awoof u would enjoy better service on ur phone.

Hay u didn't talk about the delivery report thing, what about the ringing stuff. I wasn't sent any sms concerning the family and friends neither do i know anyone that got the sms. International calls on celtel is 33naira, mtn 40, u can only say mtn local call rate is cheap if 90percent of your contacts are mtn subscribers, if not it's expensive. U pay 15 to text other networks while u pay 42naira to call. But with celtel i can call 5 people for 15naira or 12naira offpeak and call other sub 39naira, i send free text to celtel sub and 9naira to other,think about it.
About gprs u make me laugh, if u haven't been to Admiralty way lekki, you will say ikeja is for the rich, that is, check out celtel gprs and you'll weep for mtn. Celtel charges 10kobo per kb, mtn charges 60kobo per kb. Common sense would tell u how stupid mtn is. I checked my mail with mtn and sent out some mails, they zoomed off 100naira, that's fraud. I used celtel gprs downloaded shmessenger i stay online with yahoo messenger for 1hour and was billed 3naira, isn't that wonderful. Some nigerians are stupid when they defend people who are defrauding them. Wonder why those from South Africa browse alot with their phones, it's because it's very cheap. Mtn na baba for fraud

Thats right dapsycool and the gprs is no longer 60kobo its now 80kobo and i also discovered that mtn has average network quality in the major cities but the network is very poor in the rural areas.To participate in mtn's promo you have to send an sms and 200 Naira will be deducted but for celtel all you av 2 do is to recharge,thats all

In addition celtel igprs is free and very fast, what's gonna happen when they start billing. It would be mega fast. Mtn gprs is not free but very slow, that's pathetic.
I don't like awoof if Mtn could 2 charge me reasonably.check this out, when celtel was billing, i paid 1naira to check my yahoo mail with flurry, even when i send mails it's still below 5naira sending several mails,i pay an average of 5naira per hour to chat on yahoo messenger via shmessenger application. I download games at extremely cheap rates. I browse through websites for hours and i'm satisfied with the money deducted, i use mig33 for hours with less than 100naira. Isn't that lovely, would i look for awoof if all networks are like this.with mtn gprs u'll pay 6thousand with what celtel will offer u for 1thousand. Don't u know frustration leads to desperation, and desperation leads to discoveries, that's how people get tricks to browse free. No wonder some people make free MTN calls. mtn the fraud king

By the way, u can do without them (mtn) if u r not enjoying their services since u claim celtel and glo charges less. As for delivery reports, i think it's a phone thing and need to be activated it. actually I don't like any of MTN's services maybe its for the rich I am absolutely enjoying my celtel line but only that celtel is breaking my heart by not allowing me to browse for free I hope to browse free with my celtel line very soon

It's not only MTN all the networks have been messing up for the last 2 months or so. Paying for services that you don't get! Only in Nigeria.

My MTN phone has service, full bars at that in my office but its unreachable. No doubt GLO has the best voice quality and in the University of Port Harcourt area they are the most stable as CELTEL goes of for weekend at least once a month.

@ayusman mtn has offered dozens of promo and in most of them,they'd tell you to send an sms to so so number and 200 will be deducted for participating,(am not refering to who wants to be a millionaire) The only problem i av with glo is calling a distant number,especially in the east,its always difficult while celtel's problem is network coverage but that will soon be over cos they are massively rolling out service everywhere.

Imagine,mtn stopped their f&f,without even a text to me.And moreover,i can't even differentiate mtn gprs billing with that of glo,both are exorbitant.My glo have been lying fallow for 3weeks now,no thanks to celtel.

That is exactly what happens to my phone. "No Network Access"

Everybody most have one or two problem, mind you put yourself in any of the carrier position with huge investment, without stable electricity, bad road network, high cost of fuel, logistics implementation, still MTN is still doing his best to give you 89% to 95% service availability, so why crucifying the company, let me sincere with ourself, it is more than what we are looking at that keep the mobile network alive.

An instance, A BTS station is down engineer are deplore instantly to bring it up on there way going an accident occurred, at time up northern part they are attacked by armed bandit, now put yourself in this situation,

Let there be security, goods Road network, keep away all agbero boys on the street, that will uphold engineers for ransom before they can work not to talk of have access to the base station, So all these inclusive are having severe service impact. alot alot to say,

Go to SA and see the beauty of a GMS network, many things have to put in place, on the government part alot needs to be done, within Lagos metropolis access a down station could be a nightmare, with all series of holdup. bear with the company and all other carrier.

I still assure you MTN still have the best Network coverage, and service availability

i'm actually on the fence here,cos if only u know what these telecom companies face u'll feel 4 them.in 2001 b4 mtn was launched in nigeria,the federal govt promised those companies that were able to pay for the licence that all other ammenities would be in place when they commenced service,but little did they all know they'll be buying and replacing stolen generators to provide service to their numerous subscribers.no one has spoken of the high taxes these communication companies (mtn inclusive) pay to the NCC.in fact the federal govt should share in all that has been said against mtn & other communication service providers.

I don't think mtn offers any promo that ask u to send a text and N200 would be deducted (Mention any and i would keep quiet) Am a beneficiary of one of their promos and always on the look out for any. They could ask u to recharge on ur phone to participate.

My guy! Agreed, if u were saying in 2003 they don't give delivery reports. But i think now it has changed.

Was in the East sometimes this year and witnessed their generator being stolen by thieves. Ever since then, i had a change of mind and understand better what these GSM coy suffers in the hands of Nigerians. Common! Atleast, they've compensated u with free midnight calls and MMS (Wetin again, dem try abeg).

As far as am concerned, as long as the GSM coy stays in Naija (Epileptic power supply and vandalism); there would still be network probs. There is no perfect network

I don't know mayb e they are tired of customers, I sent mail to the customer service care about my MMS and GPRS service , but no response, the worst part of it is ,they sent message that the MMS service is free and i realised that after deducting there #60 , the message will not be deliver.I am tired of the network.

CDMA is the way I chose to go now in lag. my MTN phone searched for network the whole day while i was expecting an international interview call. I had to speak in tongues to bring it back to life a few hours before i got the international call. God saved my ass.

weather u like or not we got just 2 networks in nigeria - MTN, GLO and OTHERS.

I treid an MTN sim on a Nokia 3510 yesterday based on Honsules advice it was wapping but not free I was asked to enter my mobile no and password and I saw MTN loaded and could not go beyond that page even when I tried to link the home page to other wapsites but I believe Honsule will be able to assist me with a scope on that and guess what? I have successfully deactivated the phone code on my SAGEM by myself and I put the MTN sim in my SAGEM it was connecting but (http: Error 503 service unavailable) it could not even open MTN homepage so pls how do I go about that; and guess what again, I tried to configure MTN MMS on my SAGEM and it worked perfectly and absolutely free when I did back to sender it delivered and I tried to e-mail it sent but didn't deliver.
