clemmonce: did people actually use slate to write in those days ? Yes people used slate provided by Government in then midwest state. When governement slates mainly made of card boards were getting damaged without replacement, (e don Tay wen govt de deal with man pipkin) we were forced to patronize the carpenters. Pupils change to this kind of excessive book from primary two. In primary two, you can only use pencil. Usage of pen holder which was dipped into a bottle of ink starts from primary 3. Your fingers, teeth, toe nails and neatness of uniforms were inspected on weekly basis. Your note books are also inspected by the teacher to ensure you have copied all the notes and done all your home works. Good old days! 6 Likes |

You also have at the back cover Thirty days has September April, June and November... Nolstagia... That was when we would recite 'The groundnut' boy poem. Do you know the groundnut boy The grounboy 2x Do you know the groundnut boy who lived in our compound The period when the fear of 'gbomogbomo' was the beginning of wisdom The period when we would run away from school to avoid being vaccinated The period when chocomilo, robo robo, dankwa, condense and the likes were still in vogue. The period when some macho guys would come to our primary school to display their strenght.(We actually pay to watch them) They would carry a student up with their teeth(Really weird) Tie a rope to a car and pull the rope Lie on the ground with Planks placed on them and somebody will then drive a car on them The period when we would go hunting for abutata and bees. *#SoMuchToTell#* 5 Likes |

clemmonce: did people actually use slate to write in those days ? Oh yes! I used slate in my village nursery school(nta akara) in the 80s. I was too playful and was one of the least brilliant chap in my class. Many atimes, I will score 0/10. My teacher will administer some dose of bulala on my buttock. Thereafter, she will force me to go home without wiping off the embarrassing score from my slate. I usually feel deeply ashamed when I treks back home to the extent that I take bush path most of those times. On meeting my dad at home, he will continue from where my teacher stopped. His own punishment will be so brutal that my mum usually pleads with him to tamper justice with mercy. But those punitive measures couldn't change me. The process usually repeats itself the next day. 1 Like |
