ola_pluto: Olympics officially starts tomorrow. I will try to list activities involving Nigeria day by day. I will also (painfully) update as each Nigerian is eliminated.
Friday 27th August is the first Nigerian involvement. Opening ceremony. Flag was supposed to be carried by Mariam Usman, our brilliant female weightlifter(+75kg). However, for 'tactical reasons', Boltic (our flagship male wrestler, well ranked worldwide and olympian) will be carrying the flag. Boltic is from Bayelsa state...figure the rest.
Saturday 28th: Nigeria's first match. Funke Oshonaike will start at 9am Nigerian time against Shahsavari Neda from Iran. I do not know about the opponent, but I am confident Funke will make it. I predict 3-1. Edem Offiong will play against a tough Egyptian Meshref Dina at same time. Wish them both victory.
45 minutes later, Nigeria's finest table tennis player, Oluwasegun Toriola, will play against Ho Andre of Canada. Segun is good, but Asians are always tough, never mind they represent another country. Aruna Quadri will not take part in the qualifying round. He will feature in the 1st round match (4pm Nigerian time) against Carlos Machado of Spain. Good luck to all of them! Game ON!
Later on Saturday, Nigeria's Muideen Akanji will fight a yet unknown opponent in Boxing. Let us support our sportsmen and women with prayers. They need it. Anything is possible.
MUHIDEEN AKANJI TO FIGHT O'NEILL DARREN FROM IRELAND VERY SOON (75KG)

Muideen Akanji about to come out now. Scores are not displayed during rounds anymore, so he has to fight and fight. A Ugandan friend told me how his country boxer lasted only 15 seconds at one olympics. Got into the ring and took a deadly punch-knockout. Lets hope Akanji can push through. Meanwhile, Anthony Ogogo representing Britain is in the ring.

None of them qualified for mixed doubles. Egyptians won it at the All African games in Maputo...Nigeria up next...But why did they drop our coach for Oyinbo
Re: Nigeria Olympic Thread...to Be Updated Regularly by olapluto(m): 3:44pm On Jul 28, 2012
Round 1 over. Nigeria down by 1 point. Not bad. Now he needs to up his game. 6 minutes remaining to stay at Olympics.
Re: Nigeria Olympic Thread...to Be Updated Regularly by akintun: 3:45pm On Jul 28, 2012

Re: Nigeria Olympic Thread...to Be Updated Regularly by olapluto(m): 3:51pm On Jul 28, 2012
Akanji is out jare. Losing round 2 by 8-2. His legs are wobbly and that is the end! But why is Nigeria like this. They ruined Kehide Obareh's chances by chosing a different coach for her. This is unfair. This coach doesnt even know Akanji's strength. I am guessing this guy was employed in Surrey! Insulting Nigerians!
Re: Nigeria Olympic Thread...to Be Updated Regularly by olapluto(m): 3:53pm On Jul 28, 2012
If they dont come back home to take the National coach that trained these guys, I will not watch any of the boxing. This is a shame
Re: Nigeria Olympic Thread...to Be Updated Regularly by akintun: 3:54pm On Jul 28, 2012
I think i saw Akanji at the commonwealth games. He was soundly beaten by the british representative dat fought today.
Re: Nigeria Olympic Thread...to Be Updated Regularly by olapluto(m): 3:55pm On Jul 28, 2012
A white man has sold a bogus CV to our officials and they dumped Nigerian coach who has nurtured these guys. Na basket we go use carry defeat come home. This is a shame! Why do we always press self-destruct button?
Re: Nigeria Olympic Thread...to Be Updated Regularly by olapluto(m): 4:00pm On Jul 28, 2012
Final Nigerian show today is in Men's table tennis singles. 2 Nigerian men featuring. Not a good day for Nigeria so far. 3 out of 5 Nigerians out after 1st day.
Re: Nigeria Olympic Thread...to Be Updated Regularly by olapluto(m): 4:17pm On Jul 28, 2012

hardeyincah: . Pls help me tell Funke to go and start a table tennis Academy for female....
I will respect her for that. She should stop competing but start coaching. But I reckon she has 2 more olympics left in her. Table Tennis doesnt require much power, just mental alertness.
Re: Nigeria Olympic Thread...to Be Updated Regularly by olapluto(m): 7:10pm On Jul 28, 2012
Segun Toriola loses 1st game 11-8. Toriola is a superb player, The swede has blunt reflexes, I expect Segun to win 4-2.
