Islam for Muslims / Re: Islamic Veil by 9ja: 7:04pm On Jan 02, 2008
@ pilgrim.1
-A veil is an article of clothing, worn almost exclusively by women, that is intended to cover some part of the head or face. As a religious item, it is intended to show honor to an object or space.
Here r some synonyms of veil
noun. 1. covering,cover,screen,camouflage,cloak,curtain,mask n shroud.
verb. 2 cover,conceal,hide n shield
-A burqa (also transliterated burkha, burka or burqua) (Persian: برقع) is an enveloping outer garment worn by women in some Islamic traditions for the purpose of cloaking the entire body. It is worn over the usual daily clothing (often a long dress or a shalwar kameez) and removed when the woman returns to the sanctuary of the household.

veiling is wat was made compulsory not burqa, burqa is just kind of veil.
pls refer 2 my post of yesterday4 2 citation on veiling (law n requirements).

@d house
-veilin ain't a tradition, refer to my last post it says tell "d believing women" this an address to all muslim women.
-on d issue of freedom of dressing:every society has laws n laws r meant 2b followed.being A muslim is not compulsary,so u cant say u agree 2 live 2d confines of a legal system (islamic) n choose which laws 2 follow, which 2 go against.
4d record i have never heard of a law that has never been broken b4,so islamic law aint an exception

@focused n olabowale
with all due respect stick 2d topic "islamic veil" why do muslim women wear burqa or hijab.if u guys need 2 move up,post a new topic so we don't derail.

And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that they should
not display their beauty and ornaments except what (must ordinarily) appear thereof; that they should draw
their veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands their fathers their
husbands' fathers their sons their husbands' sons their brothers or their brothers' sons or their sisters' sons or
their women or the slaves whom their right hands possess or male servants free of physical needs or small
children who have no sense of the shame of sex; and that they should not strike their feet in order to draw
attention to their hidden ornaments. And O ye Believers! turn ye all together towards Allah that ye may attain
Bliss (Q24.31)

O prophet! tell thy wives and daughters and the believing women that they
should cast their outer garments over their persons (when abroad): that is
most convenient that they should be known (as such) and not molested: and
Allah is Oft-Forgiving Most Merciful (Q33.59)

SOME REQUIREMENT OF VEILING (HIJAB)
1. should cover the complete body except face n hands up to d wrist.if they wish to even those parts can b covered.
2. should b loose n not reveal figure.
3. should not b transparent

@davidylan

THE MESSAGE IS BELIEVE N WORSHIP 0NE (1) GOD
monotheism:one God
i believe the 1st commandment was:Thou shalt worship no other god or Thou shalt have no other gods.
-Ogun (or Ogoun, Ogum, Ogou) is a loa and orisha, who presides over fire, iron, hunting, politics and war. He is the patron of smiths and is usually displayed with his attributes: machete or sabre, rum and tobacco. He is one of the husbands of Erzulie and is a husband of Osun and Oya in Yoruba mythology (wikipedia).my bro marriage aint for God n if he presided over just a mentioned part of human endeavor who takes care of others.
- hindu concept of God-Hinduism is a diverse system of thought with beliefs spanning monotheism, polytheism, panentheism, pantheism, monism and atheism. It is sometimes referred to as henotheistic (devotion to a single God while accepting the existence of other gods), but any such term is an oversimplification of the complexities and variations of belief (wikipedia). It believes in an overall God but still believe everything is God.

scrolls of moses n psalms were not reviewed in quran it was mentioned that they both were given scriptures,so personally i dont know where they r right now.

language of the bible
aramaic is an old semitic language close related to both hebrew and arabic.
The Jewish Bible is the Hebrew Scriptures, 39 books originally written in Hebrew, except for a few sections in Aramaic.
( Encarta ® Encyclopedia) so my apologies 4d approximation. while d new testament was composed in greek.

D Quran is not a re-write of d bible so not all prophets mentioned in the bible reappear in d quran.

Concernin d leanage of ismael-God is d all knowing an d he does whatever pleases him no questions asked.

@d house
happy new year.
guess i was miss understood i didn't say d quran came to confirm d bible (KJV n d rest) but d sriptures that were given to those prophets i mentioned.translatin it from aramaic/hebrew,greek,latin,english,revisin alters d words of God.we cant do away with d whole modern bible cos it's a mix of God's words n translational errors (i.e in d present day bible there r still parts of d original scriptures).we dont have d original books from d scriptures so pls dont ask me where it is.

pls guys n chicks its a discussion 4rum not argument session,d whole essence is 2 learn n have fun not try 2 diminish religions.
abeg make una manage my english,i 4 write 4 local dialect but this na forum 4 every

wats up?
just cos some muslim men marry xtain girls with n hope of them of leaving xtain doesn't mean its a norm or standard islam.its a choice n everybody will account 4 their choices in life,so dont thinks its a plot.
Religion / Re: Can I Get Married To A Muslim Gal? by 9ja: 4:34pm On Dec 31, 2007
Sorry bro, islamic law (sharia) doesn't allow it

Do not marry unbelieving women (idolaters) until they believe; a slave woman who
believes is better than an unbelieving woman even though she allure you. Nor marry
(your girls) to unbelievers until they believe: a man slave who believes is better than
un unbeliever even though he allure you. Unbelievers do (but) beckon you to the fire.
But Allah beckons by His grace to the Garden (of Bliss) and forgiveness and makes His
Signs clear to mankind: that they may celebrate His praise. baqra (Q:221).

The word used is mushrik-arabic="a polythiest. A person who ascribes partners to Allah"

To:davidylan
pls if u have a question on spread of islam, post as topic 4 discussion.
Islam for Muslims / Re: Why Do Muslims Face The East When Praying? by 9ja: 3:18pm On Dec 31, 2007
Q .why do muslim face d east in prayer
A. -Prayer is an act of communicatin with God n varies from religion to religion
In islam their is a difference btw Dua n salat (both r 4ms of prayers).
-Dua-is the verbal prayer 2 Allah (God) can b done anytime n most places.
-Salat-the five obligatory/optional prayers that a Muslim must perform everyday, which has d sync movement of standin, prostration, bowin down n sittin(its only salat dat requires facin d east).

-Thus have We made of you an Ummah justly balanced that ye might be witnesses over
the nations and the Apostle a witness over yourselves; and We appointed the Qiblah
to which thou wast used only to test those who followed the Apostle from those who
would turn on their heels (from the faith). Indeed it was (a change) momentous except
to those guided by Allah. And never would Allah make your faith of no effect. For Allah
is to all people most surely full of kindness Most Merciful.(Q2:143-144)
To each is a goal to which Allah turns him; then strive together (as in a race) toward all
that is good. Wheresoever ye are Allah will bring you together. For Allah hath power
over all things(Q2:148)
We see the turning of thy face (for guidance) to the heavens; now shall We turn thee
to a Qiblah that shall please thee. Turn then thy face in the direction of the Sacred
Mosque; wherever ye are turn your faces in that direction. The people of the book
know well that that is the truth from their Lord nor is Allah unmindful of what they do
QIBLAR-it is the direction that Muslims face when they do their salat. It is in the direction of the Ka'bah in
Mecca.
-in a gatherin their has 2b a focal point to create order cos salat wld b impposible in a large crowd if everybody is 2 maintain d row arraingment of salat, movin in sync n facin diff directions.(a lot of collisions)
Examples of need 4 focal point n order outside islam.
1.church-everybody faces d preacher in rows.
2.school-every student faces d teacher in rows.
3.cinema-every on looker faces d screen.

Q. why is d ka,aba sacred
A. Allah asked two of his messengers (prophets) Ibrahim (AS) n his son Ismail (AS) (Abraham n Ishmeal) 2 build d house.

"O our Lord! I have made some of my offspring to dwell in a valley without
cultivation by thy Sacred House; in order O our Lord that they may establish
regular prayer: so fill the hearts of some among men with love towards them
and feed them with Fruits: so that they may give thanks (Q14:37)

And remember Abraham and Isma`il raised the foundations of the House (with this
prayer): "Our Lord! accept (this service) from us for thou art the All-Hearing the
All-Knowing.(Q2:127).

Q. only 1 east on d cardinal points
A. yes thier is only 1 east but we don't use d compass cos islam came around 1400 years ago so d use of a natural concept was used,d risin of d sun from d east.this fact is constant irrespective of country or season.
-d location of Ka'aba is d center of d earth

Q. Idols in d ka'aba
A. their is along gap btw d time of Ibrahim (AS) n Muhammad (SAW) within that time Arabia went back 2 idol worship so they used d ka'aba as a storage place.so when islam came to mecca d idols where removed from d Ka'aba by muhammad (SAW).

Q. Is the ka'aba n sacred mosque same?
A. no
-There are 3 sacred mosques,2 in the kindom of saudi arabia n 1 in jerusalem.
1. The prophet's mosque (saudi arabia,madina)
2. Masjid Al aqsa (israel,jerusalem).
3. Masjid Al haram (saudi arabia, mecca). this mosque houses d ka'aba,it's the largest with a capacity of about 2 million worshippers.

Q. do they worship d moon during d day
A. 1st n foremost we worship Allah not d moon, our salat timing ranges from sunrise to far beyond d sunset.
Religion / Re: Babs787, Where Did The Qur'an Say So? by 9ja: 10:32pm On Dec 28, 2007
The Quran doesn't state that it is to correct the bible, but to bring d whole of mankind to d worship of 1 God (Allah) motheseim i.e re iterating d message that came b4 it.
The Quran came 2 confirm d messages in d scripture that came before it i.e (injeel to Isa (AS) jesus,Taurat to Musa (AS) n zabur to dawud (AS) david) this are translated as d new testament, scrolls of moses n psalms of david. All this revelations came in hebrew so alteration n revision changed d scripture in question so we cannot say d various verses r talkin bout d modern day KJV of d bible.
d word bible is not mentioned in d Quran. d word "ahlil kitab" (meanin people of d book-literally or learned people-in modern english) is used to denote christains n jews.d correction is not in d scripture as my brother said but in d messege
