@abigirl, congrates. I'm happy for u. But how exactly does dis weight tin work? i.e all ur load put together must be 30kg or 54kg? or u can take some other bags with smaller weight, pls lemme know because i just booked to Frankfurt too.

All your baggage to be checked in should be a total of 30kg. Your hand luggage is not supposed to be more than 7kg.

@abiegirl, happy to hear that.
Hope you will not forget the family still on their way.
Wishing you all the best.
30kg? just about more than half the weight of a bag of cement. How much stuff did that contain-Estimate in cloth or food terms? Lol
Which airline? How much? Destination?
God bless you!

Na Emirates o, had to leave a lot of my clothes behind but made sure I came with my long sleeves, flat shoes, jeans, sweaters and jackets. Food stuff, not much at all. I paid about 119k for the flight and my luggage was 2kg overweight but a kind staff at the check in counter waived it for me. The flight was to Frankfurt.

nevilbot: I got a mail from the embassy today telling me to fund my account and send them the confirmation as soon as possible. I did my interview last Friday. Is DAT good news?

It is good news. That should probably the only thing delaying the issue of your visa. So fund and send them confirmation. Congrats in advance!

osurvey: this ''PROPOSED PLACE OF RESIDENCE'', ''DO YOU INTEND TO MAINTAIN YOUR PERMANENT RESIDENCY OUTSIDE GERMANY'' and ''INTEDNDED DURATION OF STAY:FROM -------tO -----'' on the visa form is still confusing me. @ abiegirl, bebee5000 etc pls throw more light on this. Thanks

Proposed place of residence in Germany - address of your university
Do you intend to maintain your PR outside Germany - Yes, Nigeria
Intended duration of stay - From (start month of your study) to (end month of your study)

If you read the page where you quoted this statement very well, you wouldn't need to ask this question again.
But I will help you out....Aiico insurance is 23k for 3 months while IGI is 14,500 for 3 months. When I went for my visa, I saw a lady brought GNI insurance and was obtained for 15k(according to the lady, our ruthless and fearless ibo man @ the gate gave her the contact) and from ur quote, mutual benefit is 16,800.
I used IGI and I took the insurance from IGI office @ Adeola hopewell on VI, it took less than 20mins.
NOTE: don't take anyhow insurance paper to the embassy, the guy's will bounce you.

I used Leadway, also 16,800 for 3 months.

Wow! thank God for this good news...i am very happy for u. pls i hv a question:

what date was ur interview...i am trying to calculate if the 1week break at the embassy extended ur ivsa collection date, considering the 2weeks or 2weeks3days talked about by a coule of ppl here.

I had my interview on d the 16th of July. However, enrolment at my school starts on the 18th of dis month so I blive dt was a factor in gettin d visa early.

When I was also searching for tickets I found Iberia and royal airmaroc cheaper, but my last experience with royal airmaroc was nothing to write home about, the inflight service was poor, terrible food, and no entertainment on board. So i decided not to fly with them again. Then I checked Iberia, it was good but you are only allowed to check in 23kg baggage and your hand luggage, and that's not enough for me. So if you choose to fly Iberia check and crosscheck properly.
Having said that, the closer your travel date the more expensive the tickets become. Be wise oh!!!! I should have bought my tickets earlier but I wanted to be sure of my visa first before doing so and as a result i payed dearly for it embarassed embarassed.
Anyway, it ended well. cheesy

Next time you ask such questions, wait for a reply. You don't have to flood the thread. Otherwise go back a few pages to get your answer...

GTB Bank : Go to any GTB bank or diamond bank and open an Euro Domicilary account(a type of current account). Usually you need referees for you to open with GTB. Someone that did with Diamond told me it was much easier thats why I mentioned them. Getting referees can be hard because they require current account holders. Once you present the referees, the account opened for you will be activated for transanctions.

Go to the Local markets (Those that change money), make sure its a trusted seller. Euro is currently between 225 - 227 depending on the seller. I bought at 225. Exchange the money equivalent of the blocked account in Euro in your current account. Then go to your bank and transfer. Take note of the IBAN number during transfer because it surely matters. Your bank will give you forms to fill and You transfer by bits due to CBN policy. After transfer, do collect the Telex copy as proof of your transfer. Wait for like 3 - 5 days, the deutsch bank will send you a confirmation that your account has been credited.

Very important to note the CBN limit. I had initiated a transfer for the full amount yesterday but it was rejected due to the limit of $10,000 per day (equivalent to approx EUR 7,300). I had to re-initiate it in bits. Also, if you have online banking with GTB, you don't need to go to the bank. You can do it online. Transfers initiated before 2pm is usually treated the same day, after 2pm will be treated the next day.

Very good you got accepted at Uni Mannheim. My friend was rejected at FAU too; I was told to write an addtional 2 paged essay to attain the treshold of 70points needed to be admitted. The only issue now is the fact that the search for accomodation isn't looking sexy in Nuremberg. Hope you are finding yours easier.

It aint funny at all. I am hoping to get it sorted tho before I get there. There are some students that sublet due to the fact that they would be spending a semester or 2 abroad. That could be a temporary option.

I think the problem of GPA conversion and equivalency has been profusely adressed. Since you are still on page 101, I say your verdit is not so currect.

DAAD scholarship has many red tapes.
As Beebee rightly said, the language of the courses is German, although I think some of the courses are english taught. Other hinderances include:
1. Limited number/specialty of programs.
2. Employment status/experience; usually should align with your MSc pursuit.
3. Sign to return after studies. etcetera.

Also, there's the issue of age. Generally, candidates above 30yrs are not qualified.
