ortopazz: Look past the boundaries? I deal with facts and figures not emotions and false hopes. Yeah we have Nigerians that have one point or the other done great things, but also on a much more regular basis, we have Nigerians (especially Political Office holders) giving new heights to already alarming levels of corruption. The facts speak for themselves. These achievements doesn't even factor out 10% of the negatives associated with Nigeria and Nigerians as well. You seem to have missed the point i tried raising, see the weight of damage we as a Country together carry can't be compared to what individual components would have done. Why? Not all parts of the country has access to Oil and therefore they'd have to come up with ways to survive, you can't compare the weight of looting that occurs due to oil to looting of other forms of scarce resource like agriculture that have longer gestation periods. And don't forget the Multiplier effect |

ortopazz: I totally agree with the part in bold. We've been able to do more damage, achieve world records for alarming rates of corruption, maternal and infant mortality, wide spread of epidemics and pandemics, countless avoidable loss of lives and properties, wide spread lack of trust, stupidity and senseless policies and lies from leaders, world record of clueless leaders, record for most oil dependent economy, alarming levels of brain drain and decadance of health, education, achieving infamy status of terrorism, the list is endless. We couldn't have done it without your support and would just want to say thank you! |

aribisala0: if we agree on that the next question we must ask is who are these people whom we wish to entrust with our destiny? What are they about or is it just ok to rally around the O'dua slogan. Is that enough for us to suspend thought and scrutiny?certainly events in Ondo recently should snap us out of the mesmerism. integration and ACN are not mutually indispensable We all (most people anyway) know Nigeria is a place where common sense has become a myth, and that's we both can safely agree time would tell. But like I said earlier History and the antecedents of these set of people isn't doing them any good at all. ACN,PDP,LP have 1 thing in common CORRUPTION. So my argument isn't about what would happen rather its about what CAN happen or better put possibilities. Another dimension might just be private corporations having contracts and holdings across SW. For instance a single company with 'links' might just secure waste disposal across SW, or the 'wonderful' powers behind LIRS might just decide to expand operations or give out franchise for others to kick off in some states. Trust is something our leaders can't earn from moi or any sensible* Nigerian that easily. |

aribisala0: I believe you've answered this yourself already, its quite clear that this action simply has other undertones. And the gesture is just a pretex for what is to come. Let's face it Nigeria is a country in which tribal identity plays an huge role. It is delusional to continue to think of a truly unified Nigeria. I quite understand that integration comes in several forms, economic, social and even political. And they go hand-in-hand. Like I said earlier, the Federal system has failed woefully, it doesn't work and there's no point of still hanging on to it (but then again lots of people are still feeding off its dying body). What Nigeria needs is simply a regional form of governance. And if some are crying what would be their fate let them embark on development of their own zones instead of looting, and causing unnecessary deaths. |

@aribisala0 I quite understand that but let me ask you along what lines of integration would you pose instead? And about the farming thing really it wouldn't immediately increase food production, but its a good step in the right direction in ensuring food security. Lots of stuff are being grown down southwest these days, for instance i know of someone whose livelihood is producing crops like cucumbers, peppers etc and his really booming thanks in part to the Bokos. Did you know the government gives out (to farmers cooperatives) agricultural lands for a planting season for as low as 2500 -20000. And some of these lands are in lagos? |

aribisala0: From a political strategic perspective in the context of regional integration it is a masterstoke; It sets a precedence for a deeper agenda and incrementally other steps and measures will follow. Whether or not it is legal is a red herring because it throws down the gauntlet to dissenters to challenge it or accept it as a fait accompli as is the case with sharia. So politically it is smart but it would be naive to expect cheap food anytime soon.LASG is NOT a farmer!! Thank you. It's my personal opinion that the current southwest governors have a big role to play in relaying the foundations of our common heritage. Before Nigeria was, we were sons of Odua, ultimately Yorubas' Its a shame that greed and corruption has so set us apart. Nothing stops us from having a uniform policy on education, infrastructure, health, security etc As we all know there's safety in numbers. No one knows what the future truly holds. People are begining to think of seccession, how are we preparing should it ever happen. We need to position ourselves quite well. Its should be the same across Nigeria. Atleast Nigeria to an extent faired better under the regional form of government compared to what we have now. I was passing through Ibadan and saw a variation of LAWMA,LASAG, and even infamous LASTMA. Now oyo is taking cues from lagos. This states coming together would be able to pull different resources together. These governors are certainly not the best in characters but will they be willing to see the greater good and do the right thing? (History is certainly not in their favour) My final verdict ACN and the path to regional governance? To be or not to be? |

blogger2tooker: GOD HAS A REASON WHY HE MADE ONE AA, ANOTHER AS AND ANOTHER SS, GODS LANGUAGE IS FAITH AND HE WANTS US ALL TO WALK WITH HIM IN FAITH AND NOT BASED ON WHAT DOCTORS SAY OR HEAD KNOWLEDGE. WE ALL CAME FROM GOD HENCE THE NEED FOR US TO DEPEND ON HIM. BUT MAN HAS ALLOWED HIMSELF TO BE BROUGHT UNDER TORTURE BY FOLLOWING THEIR OWN WAY. While i understand the place of faith, as well as testimonies of people being healed of one ailment or the other, I'd rather suggest that put your faith on the line, seek a miracle to change that person's health condition first before marrying him or her. Most people would have faith in order not to have SS children what about your spouse who is a carrier ? The same God who is able to prevent you from having SS Children don't you think he's more than able to change something as small as genotype ? I could remember 2006 in Jos then, we had a program in church then and everyone was required to pray (mainly the prayer of faith, rejecting whatever that's in your life that you don't like) for themselves throughout the week, and there was the case of someone who had HIV and believed that it would leave, after praying he went to JUTH to confirm his healing and got his test result. His result was made available except that his name and other things that could reveal his identity was blurred out. |
Culture / Re: The Hidden History Of White Slavery! by adewaleafolabi(m): 9:18pm On Oct 18, 2012 |
Logicboy03: Why the offensive words? Did i at any point in time call you names? Like a friend said is there any proof that White is better than Black? It's all biases. What makes a person to be of more worth than another person is simply the value that the person has to offer. Black, red, white, green doesn't matter, what matters really is the individual person. Passing down history is one thing, staying in the past is another. Time and times again people have given excuses for the gross incompetence of our leaders such as this book How Europe Underdeveloped Africa. There are truths in it, no doubt. But that doesn't explain the reason why I can't have good roads or why electricity is too much to ask for or why despite removing subsidy on petrol, petrol is terribly scarce with no reasonable excuse or why education is at a record high abysmal level. A pupil of JSS3 finds it impossible to spell or write his name, JSS3 students don't understand what the product of 2 and 3 is etc. This is no fiction this is what I've see everyday for almost a year now. And its not up north, no its in Southwest. It still boils down to greed, greed and more greed. Agreed the Jews talk about the genocide, i get News letter from United with Israel. But you also know what, they are also at the forefront of innovations such as the "Israeli Vaccine to Stop Cancer from Returning to Patients". They didn't let their past hinder them, rather they turned their past into a weapon and forged their future with it. Nigeria on the other hand, has no excuse to be where it is today. All we need is just consistent less selfish leader with the drive for growth. Fashola might not be a good example but at least he demonstrated what could be possible with less looting and more working. Whether Holy book supports it or not, there's a simple rule: Treat others the way you'd like them to treat you. As simple as that. Am Yoruba, am proud of my name (Afolabi), am proud of my heritage. But its totally senseless to attribute my failures to the color of my skin. Every human being has the ability to surmount the odds and change their situations. Lots of black people have done this and are still making great strides all around the world. 1 Like |

ammamat: please is it really true that if u are As and your fiance is AS both of u can not get maaried?, is it really important or dose it really matter at all? Have you ever witnessed a sickle cell attack before? If you haven't, I'd suggest you visit the hospital and see the agony those living with sickle cell go through during their attacks. It's not a good sight to see. I saw it happen to a friend, we were still talking some minutes before, and that when all hell broke loose. He was weeping, shouting, his legs had become stiff all of sudden and the pain was just excruciating. That sight is still in my head, no one deserves to go through that kind of suffering especially when its easily avoidable. My Genotype: AA 1 Like |

Really the more Africans and African Americans continually dwell on this issue of slavery, the more we loose sight of important issues such as accountable governance, growth and development. The more our inferiority complex as a race grows, the more AA's would continue to delude themselves that being black is just about talking crap, smoking weed, going to jail, and every shit hiphop promotes as black virtues. At least see the Irish they've moved on. We also should. @op thanks for this piece. Now i know one more reason why some irish people are clamouring to move out of the united kingdom 1 Like |
Education / Re: What's The Difference Between A Smart Student And A Brilliant Student by adewaleafolabi(m): 7:44pm On Oct 17, 2012 |
Econometrics final year exam, i was a simply a smart student. I had crammed an equation proving for which i didn't understand even the whole econometrics itself was just something i had to pass if i wanted to graduate, the stakes were high and needed to insure myself. So being smart, had to permutate possible questions (based on previous years alongside some element of surprise), memorize their solutions, drilled my brain on how much i could remember and time taken to recollect. I had put myself in a position that i couldn't be shocked as worst case scenario I'd still have something to write. I came out of the exam hall finished on time, cause i attempted the easier ones in terms of recollection as well as time taken to put down. Lots of folks didn't finish, but came out proud of myself. Scenario two, 300 level CA i had the highest certainly not because i was the most brilliant, but i could remember drawing graphs for every little thing i had talk about. And in the final exam result just two people had an A, myself and one other guy. How i did it they still wonder. Scenario three, two hundred level Statistics stabbed the class lots of time, as exams approached all i needed to do was sit for some few hours with a friend, he broke it down quite well, did the mental drill went into exams became second highest at 82, the guy had 84. Moral: I had little or no interest in Economics, just had to pass it so i can easily move on with my life. Would you call me Brilliant, nah I'd rather be seen as smart, knowing what to do in order to get things done. The really brilliant one might not necessarily have the good grades 1 Like |
