Kung fu movie star Jackie Chan says he "takes responsibility" for the drug charges laid against his son, 32-year-old Jaycee Chan, in Beijing.
Police detained the junior Chan, who is originally from Hong Kong and also an actor, as well as Kai Ko, a 23-year-old Taiwanese actor, during a raid on August 14 in Dongcheng district, Beijing, state media said.
Both men tested positive for marijuana.

'Really sorry'
After detaining the young actors, police searched Jaycee Chan's apartment and found more than 100 grams of marijuana. He was also accused of "hosting others to take drugs," the state-run China Daily said. He could face three years in jail under Chinese law.
State broadcaster CCTV aired footage of Chan, his face blurred, showing police where the drugs were hidden at his home, while Ko was shown making a tearful apology.

"I very much regret what happened. I'm very sorry to those who support me, like me or even know me personally," he said. "I just want to tell them I'm really sorry. I've set the worst example, which had the most terrible influence. And this is a huge mistake."

There was panic in Makurdi, Benue State capital at the weekend, following reports that three indigenes of the state, who arrived from Ebola-torn Liberia, had been placed in a separate room at the Benue State Teaching Hospital (BSUTH), Makurdi, for observation over the deadly disease.
Checks by Daily Sun revealed that as soon as the news filtered into the capital city on Sunday evening, residents began to make calls to their relations and friends about the presence of suspected victims of Ebola virus disease (EVD) in the state and most drinking and food joints as well as other public places were deserted.
However, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of BSUTH, Professor Orkugar Malu, dispelled rumours that some Benue natives from Monrovia, Liberia, were victims of the deadly Ebola virus disease.
Malu, who had to go on air yesterday to dispel the rumours and later spoke with newsmen in his office, said a couple from the state, who were on missionary journey to Liberia, had to return home when the Ebola epidemic became serious in that country. He stated that the couple had been tested at every point right from Moronvia, capital city of Liberia to Accra in Ghana and Abuja and were negative.
The CMD noted that on arrival in Makurdi, the state had to keep them and the driver who drove them from Abuja to Makurdi in an isolation ward at the teaching hospital as a precautionary measure to observe them and further ensure that they were free from the dreaded viral disease.
Prof. Malu explained that the natives who were resident in Monrovia for a year as missionary workers, quickly relocated from Liberia in the wake of the Ebola outbreak.
“Since some airlines have stopped operations to Liberia, the couple had to take flight to Accra in Ghana, where they stayed for a week before traveling to Nigeria.
“They have not shown any symptoms of the disease because at every stage, their temperature was tested right from Monrovia before they boarded the plane to Ghana and then Nigeria. Since they came in here on Thursday, we have been testing them on a daily basis and there is no evidence of temperature or any of the symptoms of the Ebola virus disease.
“We are 99.999 per cent sure that they do not have Ebola virus. But just in the remotest case of 0.0 per cent, we have kept them to fulfill everything there is to be done to ensure they do not have the disease,” he said.

To check possible outbreak of the Ebola Virus Disease in Enugu State, the Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, on Wednesday disclosed that 20 persons have been quarantined in the state.
Briefing State House correspondents at the end of the Federal Executive Council meeting presided over by President Goodluck Jonathan, said 198 persons are currently under watch by the Ministry of Health to contain further spread of the disease.

A nurse had earlier fled the Lagos quarantine centre and travelled to Enugu where she had contact with 20 other people.
Of the 198 persons under surveillance, he said that 177 of them are in Lagos, while 21 are in Enugu.

He said: “All those who had primary contact have been quarantined. Secondary contacts have also been traced. So far the number of people that have been traced is 198. Out of this number, 177 are in Lagos and are being traced. Some are in quarantine, some are being monitored by health specialists.”

“21 persons in Enugu are also being watched. This is because one of the nurses that was involved with the treatment of the index case, unfortunately, disobeyed medical instructions and somehow travelled to Enugu.”
“All those who she was in contact with including her husband are under quarantine. The medical team had been able to trace all those who made contact with her.”

He urged members of the public to discountenance rumours and unverified reports over the Ebola epidemic, saying the government will prosecute anybody spreading rumors that damage public health.
He said: “Health workers are now in all our border units. All the entry points into this country and exit points, we have port health workers that are working in our airports and seaports.”
