NOUN Students Alleged School Management Of Extortion, Seek Tinubu, Minister Of Education's Intervention

Some students of the National Open University of Nigeria have accused the management of the school of extortion after a sudden introduction of N5,000
payment to each student for their TMAs (Tutor Marked Assignments),

The students made a plea to the Mr. President, Asiwaju Bola Hammed Tinubu, and the Nigeria Minister of Education, Tahir Mamman to investigate and punish whatever was involved in the introduction of the illegal levy imposed on the students of NOUN.

The management of the National Open University of Nigeria has earlier announced to the students the submitted Tutor Marked Assignments ( Continuous Assessments Test ) which cover 30% of the 100% overall assessment's score have been canceled due to the school's detection of malpractices on the side of students after the submission of their TMA on the school portal. The school informed the students that, their examinations which are of 70% total grade had put for 100% after the cancellation of the TMA that covered 30% scores.

Thereafter, on Thursday 13th of June, NOUN wrote their students through the school register, Oladipo A. Ajayi, that has rescinded its decision to base the overall assessments on examinations after several pleas by the students.

" After careful consideration and in response to various appeals from students and members of the University community, Management has decided that the affected students will have the opportunity to retake the TMA."

Thereafter, NOUN said the school decision comes with some implications:

To cause a delay in the release of the 2024.1-semester results;

Each student is to pay a surcharge of N5,000.00 irrespective of the number of TMA courses to be retaken as an administrative cost for the courses while the payment of the surcharge is expected to be in effect from Friday, 14th-23rd June 2024.

However, the N5,000.00 surcharge has sparked outrage and frustration among students, who feel unfairly targeted and extorted, they described the development as a scam.

The student said things started falling apart when the school informed them that the already submitted TMA had been canceled and made the situation look like a written script by the management when they asked each student to pay a sum of N5,000.00 to redo the TMA online.

Some of the students who spoke to Westerndaynews through Whatsapp chats expressed their strong opposition to the earlier decision of the school management to cancel their already completed TMAs (Tutor Marked Assignments) and present demand of
N5,000.00 from student to retake their assessments.

One of the students who chatted with our reporter with a request that her name shouldn't be in print said, " For years, students have completed their TMAs online, which accounted for 30 marks, and then wrote exams either through pen-on-paper or CBT. However, without any evidence or justification, the university has accused students of not completing their TMAs themselves and initially threatened to base their exams on 100% marks but later resolved to cancel our already completed TMAs (Tutor Marked Assignments) and demand that we redo the assignments and pay a compulsory fee of 5,000 naira. This is a time we need the government to fight for us, our schools are not doing well for us.

While investigating further, our reporter chatted with one of the 300 level of the institution, studying Political Science, he said " We believe that the decision made by the school management is unfair and unjustified, it is purely a form of extortion and violation of our rights as students, a breach of trust and confidence in the university.

According to Wahabi Adekunle Fasasi, also a student at the Faculty of Social Science, he said, all that the NOUN management is trying to do is to take in money from students, and with N5,000.00 each from students, they will have close to a billion naira to share.

" So far, everybody knows that the N5,000.00 demanded is illegal and not online with the regulations and practices of the school, we urge the university management to, cancel the compulsory 5,000 naira fee and reuse our already completed TMAs as well as provide clear guidelines and evidence-based procedures for TMA completion.

We refuse to be extorted and demand fair treatment. We request a prompt reversal of this decision and a constructive dialogue to resolve this matter amicably. Moreover, we want Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and our minister,
Tahir Mamman's intervention on the issue, the mastermind of the imposition among the staff of the school shouldn't go unpunished." Fasasi stated.

OYSIEC: Ad-hoc Staff Lament Continuous Delay In Payment Of Allowance, Seek Gov. Makinde's Intervention

- some of us receive N5,000 bribe - Ad-hoc Staff

Barely three weeks after Local Government election was held in the 33 Local Government areas of the state, the ad-hoc staff recruited for the smooth conduct of the election on Tuesday lamented continuous delay in payment of their allowance by the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC).

OYSIEC conducted the local government elections across the state on April 27, 2024.

Before the poll, the Commission had recruited over 1 thousand ad-hoc staff, in the following categories: Assistant Presiding Officers (APO), Presiding Officers (PO) and Supervisors (SU).

Others are Ward Collation Officers (WCO), LGA Returning Officers (RO), Assistant Electoral Officers (AEO) and Electoral Officers (EO).

According to a report, the commission recruited the ad-hoc staff to assist its workforce in conducting free and fair elections, but unable to set out a certain amount to be paid as allowance to the recruited ad-hoc staff.

One of the recruited ad-hoc staff who pleaded anonymous said after the one-day exercise, OYSIEC is yet to reward them.

The ad-hoc staff who served as a presiding officer in one of the polling units in Ward 11, Orisunmibare Adabi, Egbeda Local Government area of the state, expressed her grievances over the development.

She told Westerndailes on Monday evening that, every ad-hoc Staff employed for the election has not been paid till date.

According to her, allowances for both the training and the election proper has not been paid 18 days after the conduct of the elections.

"We went for training and we were engaged for the local government election on Saturday, April 27. The commission promised us that the money would be paid into our various bank account two days after election which was Monday April 29th, but we are yet to see alert as promised.

"We heard that, the state governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde had provided enough funds to cover the allowance of all ad-hoc staff engaged for the April 27 Local Government election but some people that be in the commission are still holding on to our money.

"To us, with the fund provided by the governor, there is no reason the commission should be owing the hired ad-hoc staff as of today.” he said.

Another Ad-hoc in Ido Local Government who craves anonymity said, he attended the election training as well as the election proper but yet to get paid.

The staff further said he slept over inside the council secretariat in Ido as recommended by his electoral officer so as to meet up for the collection of electoral materials on Saturday morning but his efforts were not rewarded.

" We were all legitimately engaged by OYSIEC. We performed all our duties satisfactorily but we were not paid. The Electoral officer promised us that we would be paid the following Monday, which is the 29th of April but they failed to fulfil their promise. Even if they are not willing to pay for the training, I think, the election payment shouldn't be delayed.

Another Ad-hoc Staff who doesn't want her name to be in print told our correspondent that one of the people who commented on a WhatsApp platform created for ad-hoc staff in Ibadan North Local Government was filled with complaints over delay in payment of allowance by OYSIEC.

She said many are afraid to come out and complain about the development, thinking that the allowance would not be paid due to the insincerity of the officers engaged to lead various wards.

According to the lady who also served as Presiding Officer at one of the polling units; "after the election of the day, a few of them were given N5,000 ( thousand naira ) for transport while many who also worked with them were not given. She said it was during their discussion on the Whatsapp group the following day that many got to know that they were entitled to a token for the job.

"Some Ad-hoc Staff were given N5,000 on Saturday evening after we finished the collation of results and submitted the election materials to them, but many were not given. In fact, some of us received a call the following day and were asked to send account details. According to reports, their local government heads credited them with just N2,500. Why the money was given was not stated, but it was rumored that one political party gave them as gratification.

In a swift reaction, the Public Relations Officer in OYSIEC, Mr. Adegoke Damola told Westerndailes on the telephone that the commission is in the process of crediting all the hired staff.

"OYSIEC is going to pay officially hired staff. I guess they misunderstood their local government electoral officers. They were told they would submit their bank details to the commission at the state office for process on Monday not that they would start getting credit alerts from that Monday.

" The payment is a process, and we have begun the process. Soon all submitted bank accounts will be credited," Damola said.

Jobs/Vacancies / Olopoeyan Urges Tinubu To Redeploy Adelabu From Power Ministry If.... by Ajokeolore: 2:16pm On Mar 29
Olopoeyan urges Tinubu to redeploy Adelabu from power ministry if electricity must stable

The Southwest leader of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), Alhaji Bisi Olopoeyan, has called on President Bola Tinubu to redeploy the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu if there must be a steady power supply across the nation.

The Ibadan-based politician, while speaking to newsmen about the epileptic power supply across the country, and the worse dimension it has become in Ibadan since Adelabu became the Minister of Power, said the worsened situation of power supply would require a holistic approach to address.

According to him, “The approach will include the need to declare an emergency on the power sector and to also redeploy Adelabu to another ministry where he has prerequisite knowledge.”

Olopoeyan, who resides in between the Bashorun and Akobo, areas of Ibadan, said, “I do not know why President Bola Tinubu is so nepotistic in the appointment of Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, who studied finance and was a former Deputy Governor of Central Bank? The minister doesn’t have any background in electrical engineering to head the power ministry. What I am seeing is sabotage and his (Adelabu) base Ibadan is bearing the brunt.

" There is no power supply in the entire Oyo state, not to mention Ibadan. Imagine me spending N49,000 to buy diesel and N21,000 on petrol every day to run generating sets.”

Olopoeyan insisted that until Adelabu is appropriately redeployed power supply can never be gotten right, add that
the minister perhaps is more engulfed in his 2027 gubernatorial ambition in Oyo state than sitting down to ensure that the needful is done in the ministry he currently heads.

He said former President Olusegun Obasanjo made a similar mistake when he placed the late Chief Bola Ige, who was a lawyer in charge of this same power ministry, the result was a failure until Ige was redeployed to the Justice Ministry.

" In as much the FG can't make an Engineer by profession to head CBN or a Legal Practitioner to head Federal Government Hospital so, making a chartered accountant to head the power sector will always be a wrong appointment and the performance will be negative," Olopoeyan said

Jobs/Vacancies / Olubadan Sacks Makinde's Loyalist As Mogaji, Asks Family To Present Replacement by Ajokeolore: 6:18pm On Mar 09
Barely six months after suffering short suspension as Mogaji by the Olubadan Advisory Council, the Mogaji Akinsola of Opopo Labiran family compound, Ibadan, Wale Oladoja on Saturday finally lost the title as his family compound was directed to present another person to fill the vacant position with immediate effect.

This decision was the fall-out of the emergency meeting of the Olubadan Advisory Council presided over by the Olubadan, Oba Sen. Lekan Balogun, CFR,
Alli Okunmade II at his Alarere residence and which had in attendance representatives of the Association of Mogajis of Ibadanland led by its President-General, Chief Asimiyu Adepoju Ariori and the Assistant Secretary-General of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), Suleiman Iyanda Raufu, who stood in for Chief Barr. Niyi Ajewole, the President-General of the Council.

In a press statement made available to journalists in Ibadan after the meeting by the Personal Assistant (Media) to the Olubadan, Oladele Ogunsola the big axe fell on Oladoja on account of his recent media outbursts considered disrespectful to the Olubadan stool and by extension the traditional institution of Ibadanland.

The media reports credited to the deposed Mogaji, according to the Council were described as divisive, disparaging and insulting and unbecoming of a supposed leader, who is expected to be urbane and cautious in deeds and actions, stressing that the conduct of Oladoja since his short suspension about six months ago was not suggestive of any sense of remorse.

It would be recalled that the same Olubadan Advisory Council ordered the suspension of Oladoja over inhuman execution of supposed court judgment on a land matter and for which he threw out some residents of Akinsola village in Akinyele Local Government area of the state, a conduct then described as untoward and a breach of the peace.

At Saturday's meeting, the Council recalled that the suspension placed on him then did not last long because of his perceived genuine remorse and principally, because of His Imperial Majesty's peaceful disposition, adding, "the recent outbursts by the same person have shown him as somebody without no iota of respect for constituted authority and any failure to bring upon him the full weight of the Council's power would amount to condoning of indiscipline".

To drive home the point, the Akinsola Family which produced him in the first instance was subsequently asked to present another person to replace him as the Mogaji of the family if they are still interested in having a substantive Mogaji.

The deposed Mogaji was invited to the meeting but failed to show up on an excuse that his mother died about 24 hours to the meeting, an alibi that failed to convince the Council. Members, who spoke on his excuse described it as a gimmick to evade interrogation on the allegations against him and said they could not be swayed by such antics.

According to the members, "a person of his character and his love for social media could not have hidden such a very important incident from the public through social media announcement. What's more, he had made two different posts on the social media today without any faint reference to the said news of his mother's death. His refusal to honour the invitation is like adding salt to an injury".

Music/Radio / Fuji Maestro, Taye Currency Seeks Support For Ibadan Entertainment Stars by Ajokeolore: 12:48pm On Feb 22
Fuji Maestro, Taye Currency Seeks Support For Ibadan Entertainment Stars

Ibadan-born fuji star, Alhaji Taye Akande Adebisi, popularly known as Taye Currency, has said that Ibadan needs to support its stars in the entertainment industry to compete with Lagos and other leading states in Nigeria.

Taye Currency said this, on Monday, while meeting some media personalities, in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

He said Lagos and a few other states have been known for promoting entertainment, adding that Ibadan can compete successfully if the entertainment sector in the state gets adequate support and sponsors.

He commended Lagosians for promoting and supporting people in the entertainment industry, maintaining that there's more to be done in Ibadan.

His words: "When I started Fuji music in 1991, I used to think about a lot of things and many ideas flow in my mind on the next level entertainment can assume. I observed Lagos has been the hub of entertainment in the whole of the country, and it is generally believed that when they talk about stars in entertainment, they are all in Lagos and a few other states in the country.

"When we talk about promoting and helping people in their chosen career, they do that a lot in Lagos. Everything that has to do with entertainment is in Lagos and I believe there is a need for us in Ibadan to up the ante as far as entertainment industry is concerned."

The fuji star expressed happiness over the recent activities in Ibadan entertainment industry with different events and programs coming up.

He noted that with support and sponsors, the entertainment industry in Ibadan will be better than what we have in the state.

His words: "Today, I am seeing that good thing are beginning to happen as we have a lot of things springing up in Ibadan, which can make the city compete with Lagos and few other states. That is why some concerts, nowadays, are being organised in Ibadan but, despite that, we are still far behind.

"For now, Lagos and other states are still leading in the chart and Ibadan is third in the list. I have those that are in this industry who come to me for support when they have shows and I have consistently been doing my best in that regard.

"If you look at Ibadan-based fuji musicians, a lot of them who used to be popular could not maintain the fame and image just because they did not get adequate support. They started and ended their careers just like that and, today, they are nowhere to be found.

"Though, I will also say they did not make certain moves to see how they can continue to make waves in their music profession. Some did not even leave their base to catch up with trends. And you know the way you lay your bed is the way you lie on it. You know, we have to be frank at this point.

"I am not saying all of these because I am opportuned to be in this current position but we have to tell ourselves the truth and move on with what can catapult us to the next level. That is why, at this point in time, we have to make use of the opportunity at hand to achieve our desires. So, we are here together today because I dont want to misuse the opportunity on the ground.

"Why we are having a challenge like this in Ibadan is because there has not been support. A lot of people have ideas but they have nobody to support them in the limelight. They don't support people here. And if you, by any chance, try to get up there, some forces will ensure they pull you down. If you reign for 10 years in this City and maintain your trademark, money, image, and star, it must be by the grace of God."

Crime / Styrofoam: Oyo Lawmakers Ask Makinde To Ban Food Packaging Plastic by Ajokeolore: 10:11pm On Feb 08
Oyo Lawmakers Ask Makinde To Ban Food Packaging Plastic

Oyo State House of Assembly has urged the state government to ban the use of Styrofoam for food purposes in the state.

The appeal followed a motion on the need to ban the usage of Styrofoams for food service, storage and other related usage in Oyo State Co-sponsored by the Majority Leader of the House, Mr Sanjo Adedoyin and Mr Gabriel Babajide.

The motion, which sought synergy among the Ministries of Health, Environment and Natural as well as the State Executive Council for the total ban of styrofoam in the State was aimed at preventing its harmful effects on humans and the environment

According to Mr Babajide, who presented the motion, research has revealed that, it takes hundreds of years before styrofoam degrade in the soil and as such becomes dangerous for the environment

“Further aware that the use of styrofoam is common in Africa, and Nigeria, due to its population and availability of market, takes the lead in the usage of this harmful container in, the continent. Mr. Speaker, the presence of styrofoam in our marketplaces, restaurants, streets, and even in dränage systems is visible to the blind.

“Observe that just three (3) weeks ago the Lagos State Government banned the total use of single-use plastic known as styrofoam. The Government of Abia State has also ordered the same ban on styrofoam. These are proactive measures to phase out the total use of the deadly substance. It is, however, very important as a matter of utmost urgency, to stop the use of styrofoam in Oyo State, as it is hazardous to both the environment and human beings.

“Further observes that a number of states and cities in America have banned single-use plastic items, like styrofoam, in an effort to cut down on waste and encourage the use of biodegradable or reusable items. As its ban took effect on May 4, 2022, styrofoam is banned in Colorado, Maine, Maryland, New York, New Jersey, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, and Washington, D.C. and New Jersey was the most recent to be implemented, Colorado, Maryland, Virginia, and Washington have styrofoam bans that are not yet in effect.

Reacting, lawmaker representing Ibadan Northeast 1, Mr Abiodun Babalola who further highlighted the implications of the use of Styrofoams to both human and aquatic said there was a need for the government to take urgent steps on the matter.

In a resolution, the Speaker of the House, Mr Adebo Ogundoyin asked the Ministry of Information and Orientation as well as other information dissemination organs of Government to organize enlightenment programs to sensitize the public on the danger of using styrofoam.

Politics / NNPP Urges S' Court To Declare Yahaya Muhammed Winner Of Taraba Gov' Election by Ajokeolore: 1:18pm On Jan 22
NNPP Urges Supreme Court To Declare Yahaya Muhammed Winner Of Taraba Governorship Election

National acting Chairman New Nigeria People's Party NNPP, His Excellency Alhaji ABBA Kawu Ali has urged Nigerian Supreme Court to declare the party governorship candidate Yahaya Muhammed Bello as winner of the March 18 Governorship Election held in Taraba state.

The NNPP party chairman said, the people of Taraba, reciprocate the humanity of Yahaya Muhammed Bello
by voting massively for him during the election, argue that it would be a calamity if the highest court in Nigeria dampened
the hope and dream of living a better life for the people of Taraba state.

In a released statement available to the press on Monday, Alhaji ABBA Kawu Ali appealed to the Supreme Court to stick to integrity, justice, and fairness and declare
Yahaya Muhammed Bello as the rightful winner of the governorship election to assure the common man that the judiciary is established for them to get justice.

National Chairman New Nigeria People's Party NNPP, His Excellency Alhaji ABBA Kawu Ali released a statement read:

" Supreme Court should in the Spirit of Decency, Decorum Discipline, and Sanity declare Professor Yahaya Muhammed Bello of New Nigeria People's Party NNPP as the Winner of the March 18 Governorship Election in The State.

" It was audible to the deaf and visible to the blind that New Nigeria People's Party NNPP and its Candidate Professor Yahaya Muhammed Bello won the March 18 Governorship Election in Taraba State by Scoring the highest lawful votes.

" The Testimony was given by Respected Professor M A Yusuf, the Coalition and Returning Officer For the Election in Taraba State in his Protest and Complain Letter that serves as Request for the Review of the Election Results by INEC before the announcement which was agreed upon by INEC Legal Adviser but most unfortunately, The Commission went ahead and declared Kefas Agbu of PDP as the winner.

" The Gravity of the evidence of Poll Results manipulations which led to evident over voting from Wukari aided by shooting between the Army and the Police attached to INEC Coalition office. Duress and Tension were Alleged by the Coalition and Returning Officer of INEC which made the Review of the Process impossible and necessitated the Request for the Review in Abuja which was accepted by all the parties involved. The decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC to announce the result in Abuja without carrying out the review brought a lot of Doubt, Skepticism, and questions which led to the decision of NNPP and its Candidate to approach the Temple of Justice in Nigeria.

" Elections must represent the wishes and decisions of the people, Election must be done in a decent, peaceful and transparent process that must be acceptable by all, not through the Gun shooting, Duress and Tension as alleged by the Coalition and Returning Officer of INEC in the Taraba State.

" It would have done our Democracy good and Reaffirmed Justice, Fairness, and Equity, if the Tribunal and Appeal Courts were thorough on the complaint of dispute and variance in IREV And Accredited Voter on BVAS as well as highly doctored Result Sheets from Wukari area of Taraba State.

" It is Worthy of Note that Electorates have the right to choose their leaders through a transparent electoral process without being under Duress and Tension as well as get their Results Doctored in favor of another interest group or party.

" The Leadership of New Nigeria People's Party NNPP is appealing to the Apex Court to Restore the Hope of Nigerians in the Electoral System and Process by giving a critical look into the complaints of the good people of Taraba State who lawfully and genuinely voted for Yahaya Muhammed Bello of New Nigeria People's Party NNPP as Governor during the March 18 Governorship Election in the State. This will in large Extent normalize our Electoral System and Process and sanitize it reasonably for future Elections.

" While we have the Highest Regard and Hope in the Judiciary, Most Especially The Apex Court, we want to use this occasion to call on the National Judicial Council NJC to look into the activities of some Judicial OFFICERS in Nigeria whose activities raised serious questions which are inimical to the integrity of not just the judiciary but our National and International Reputations.

A Federal High Court (FHC), Abuja, on Friday, ordered Mr Chinenye Duru, a Polaris Bank official and account officer to Mr Victor Onukogu, to be remanded in a correctional facility over alleged N16.6 billion fraud.
Justice Inyang Ekwo gave the order after Duru was arraigned by the office of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and pleaded not guilty to the 11-count charge preferred against him.

While the IGP is the complainant in the charge marked: FHC/ABJ/CR/603/2023, Polaris Bank Plc and Duru are 1st and 2nd defendants.
Upon resumed hearing, IGP’s counsel, Abdulrasheed Sidi, informed the court that the matter was fixed for arraignment.
But Duru’s lawyer Chukwuemeka Kalu, said though they were ready for the plea, the prosecution was in contempt of the FHC’s order and cannot be heard

“When I finish with the plea, you can say what you want to say,” Justice Ekwo declared.
Adedapo Adejumo, who appeared for Polaris Bank, said a plea of not guilty should be entered for his client.
After the 11 counts were read to Duru and he pleaded not guilty, Sidi applied for a date for trial.

The lawyer said though he was not objecting to a date for trial, he said during Duru’s detention, they approached the court for the enforcement of his right.
“The matter was before your learned brother, Hon. Justice D.U. Okorowo, who ordered for the interim release of the 2nd defendant on bail.
“The conditions for the bail were fulfilled on this same matter between the parties.

“It was based on whether the prosecution will continue with investigation or prosecution of the 2nd defendant while the EFCC is doing the same,” he said.

Crime / We’ve Discovered Illegal Mining Market In Ibadan But… – Gov. Makinde’s Aide by Ajokeolore: 8:00am On Jan 20
The Oyo State Governor’s Special Adviser on Security, Fatai Owoseni, has said that the Oyo State government has discovered an illegal mining and gemstone market in Ibadan, but that the operators claim to have approval from the Federal government.

In an interview with ARISE NEWS on Thursday, the Security adviser, while discussing the recent explosion which occurred in Ibadan as a result of explosions stores by illegal miners, also noted that the security agencies and the government could not know of all the happenings in the state if the citizens within the state did not provide credible information to the agencies.

Speaking on the problems of illegal mining, Owoseni said, “For the past two years, the Oyo State governor has been engaging the federal government with regards to mining. We’ve discovered that there is an illegal mining market, a gemstone market in Ibadan around Ojoo and populated by foreigners. And when you go there that you want to do any operation, either as police or state apparatus, they will show you approval which they have gotten from the federal government.”

Owoseni, speaking on the complicity in the ministry industry, said that there is a lot of decadence in the mining industry from those who are supposed to be in charge of monitoring miners by conducting checks.

He said, “The conditions are that you must have a magazine, that’s like a storage where you should keep these things,” going on to say that “along the line of maybe lackadaisical attitude, the fellows that will be asked to escort the buyers, the users, they may not do the right thing. For some of the people that we apply for those things, the address they indicate is not the address where they’ve taken the things. Rather than taking them to the magazines or the storage close to the area where they will use it, they will divert these things.”

Owoseni also said, “The notion that Nigerians and everyone has that the security people must know everything, well, it’s a bit right, but at the same time, wrong. The concept and philosophy guiding security work, especially policing, is that the people are the police are the people. Without credible intelligence, the security people would not know anything.

“People don’t give information, intelligence reports. If landlords want to also take undue benefits of, oh, you know these people are doing bad business, and because they pay you a lot of money, you keep your mouth shut. So, this is the kind of thing you have.

Owoseni then said that if there were reports of such illegal activities in those areas, the government would have acted on it immediately, as he explained, “Government won’t know if the people don’t give information. People have come up to say some people said they’ve reported that before. Why is it now that all that information is coming out? That is number one. Number two, people that have talked of complicity by government or security agencies, for people that know that location, people who live there, who own houses in that area, know the caliber of people that live there.

“A former deputy governor of Oyo state lives around that place. Some eminent emeritus professors live around that place. So, these are people who cannot just be taken for granted that if such a thing has been reported, it cannot just be wished away. They have a very strong Landlord/Resident association. So, all these people that are talking, do they even bring this to the notice of the association? Like I said, when you have such people living in such areas, you can’t take them for granted.”

Speaking on the current death toll, Owoseni reported, “As of yesterday, the governor indicated we had 3 dead persons, 77 wounded. But this morning, just before we started this interview, the security operatives in that area had just sent me a text to let me know that 2 more dead bodies were recovered this morning.”

The Security adviser then said that the government has opened avenues for citizens to make credible intelligence reports, saying, “With the interaction that his excellency Governor Seyi Makinde had had with the Security and the Intelligence Community in Oyo state, we’ve opened avenues, different avenues for people to come up with credible intelligence so that some of these areas can be checked.

“We have what we call citizens inquiry number in Oyo State, it is ‘615’. They don’t need to know you because, through 615, we’ve got information and some other things that happened in the state that the governor had made use of. We’ve been having face-to-face interaction, interface with the community.”
