Religion / Re: Does Prayer Work? by Aleksys: 3:35pm On Feb 12, 2008
This question is two fold. (1) Does prayer work? (2) Can prayer grow amputated limb?
(1) Prayer does work and it does not matter what religion you practice. Prayer is a form of submission to the higher power. In other word it is the recognition of your limits as human and the acceptance of the fact that your being is not by your power or by might but by grace. Wether you are a practising Christian, Islam, Hindu, Shinto or traditional African religion, I can assure you that as long as you pray with and from a pure heart your prayer will be answered.
(2) As to growing a severed limb by prayer. This is like asking God to change yesterday and God will never break is own law neither will he disagree with himself. Whatever happened yesterday has happened hence your prayer should be focused on grace to live with your infirmity. I am not saying there is no miracles, I agree miracle happens but praying for an amputated limb to grow is like putting God to the test. If you have your limb severed that is your cross, ask God to grant you the fortitude to bear the agony and the inconvenience of living with it.
Remember the serenity prayer? God grant me the serenity to change the things that I can, to accept the things I cannot and the wisdom to know the difference. We go through some things in life that is beyond our understanding. So our prayer should be centered on grace and not some abracadabra.
Politics / Re: Gunmen Attack Efcc Officials, Journalists by Aleksys: 3:10pm On Feb 12, 2008
Adequate security in Nigeria is just few steps away if the government is sincere in its pledge. One, stable power supply. Two, localized police. With the sophistication of crime and the connivance of people hitherto regarded as responsible political leaders, reaching the promise land of security will remain a fleeting illusion unless the perennial power problem is addressed as emergency.
The second is like it, localize our police service. It is politically stupid to have a policeman from Sokoto serving in gbongon or a policeman from Afikpo serving in Zungeru. The argument that a localized police could be a willing tool in the hands of dishonest local politicians is just a mere humbug. Institutional framework could be put in place to address such a problem with dire consequences to whoever try to abuse our collective trust. Until this vital input is built into our national and political structure, we shall continue to live at the mercy of these agents of death.
Foreign Affairs / Re: Was Nelson Mandela A Terrorist? by Aleksys: 2:38pm On Jan 23, 2008
Branding someone a terrorist depends on what side of the political aisle you are. Terrorism is everywhere today. It is not only when you fly a plane into some high rise buildings or when you detonate a bomb in the market place that you are classified as terrorist. We have economic terrorist, sex terrorist, moral terrorist, pyscological terrorist et al. There is terrorism going on in all spheres of our lives but because it is not violent does not mean they are not terrorism. History will classify our actions and inactions (passive terrorism) for what they are. Life is precious and should not be taken under any guise. Iraq war, Afghanistan, Sudan/Darfur, neo colonialism, foreign debts foisted on poor nations by rich nations, elected government of a nation that turn against the wish and the aspiration of its people, all these are terrorism unclassified. I think right now we need some divine intervention in this world to bring people back on the track of sanity. So help us God.
Politics / Re: Gbenga Obasanjo's Wife Spills The Beans! by Aleksys: 1:28pm On Jan 23, 2008
It is unfortunate that the couple has chosen to prosecute their case in the court of public opinion. This accusation and counter-accusation is a theatre of the absurd. I believe there is more to this than meet the eye either some political pay back or a terrible family dysfunction. Whatever the case, we would have to keep our fingers crossed until the case come up for hearing in the court. We have not heard anything yet, wait for the case to come up for hearing and prepare yourself for one of the juicest news of the year. It is unfortunate that OBJ with his political baggage will be going through this @ this time. Talk about nemesis. The evil that  men do is an albatross on their neck.

how is she desperate when she has more delegates than obama at this point??[/quote

It's too early in the day to say who will eventually have the highest number of delegates. Whoever wins between both of them have my support. However I am very proud of Barak.
Religion / Re: God Made Him Gay? by Aleksys: 6:59pm On Jan 22, 2008
Homosexuality and paedolphilia is perversion. Perversion is immorality. Immorality is sin. Sin is death. Death of the spirit before the eventual death of the physical body. There is nothing that defiles the spirit like lust. Ubriddled sexual appetite which is even unbecoming when it is directed towards a person of the same sex. What the homosexual is saying is that God has made a mistake creating him a man or her a woman. All of us are led away by our desire, and the desire on becoming mature will give birth to sin and sin to death. Those who have hear let them hear what the spirit is saying to the congregation.
Politics / Re: I Ate Children's Hearts, Ex-rebel Says by Aleksys: 6:37pm On Jan 22, 2008

After a man confessed of killing his entire family for blood money, he was left free.
Now he is a pastor making money in Nigeria.

Totally disgusting.

Disgusting, yes very disgusting but then there is sin and there is forgiveness of sin. That is the irony, Saul of Tarsus killed a lot of the Apostles among whom was Stephen yet he became one of the foremost Apostles. Let us accept that God works in mysterious ways and refrain from judging them if you know what I mean.

Politics / Re: I Ate Children's Hearts, Ex-rebel Says by Aleksys: 6:16pm On Jan 22, 2008
This shows the calibre of the self-styled liberators of the people. People bereft of idea, buffoons and nimcompoops. I was amazed at the revelation of such an inhuman disposition of some rebellious misfits that appears in the garb of a Messaiah. This evil is even more pronounced  in Africa like in Sudan, Congo etc. I am crying inside me.

Very true Truthman, but the body language on the part of Hillary exhibits a lot of bitterness spiced with anger
Politics / Re: My Records Better Than Obasanjo’s, Says Ibb by Aleksys: 6:03pm On Jan 22, 2008
In addition to IBB's malfeasance was his annulment of the political wish of 50 million people (June 12 election). Listen, if you steal money you can atone for your crime by paying back with interest. However, if you rob a people of their political wish and aspiration which is tantamount to treason, the only atonement is death a la Dimka and Vatsa. Come to even think about it Dimka and Vatsa committed treason against some treasoanable junta and not against the people.
Politics / Hillary Clinton Desperate by Aleksys: 5:51pm On Jan 22, 2008
From the way Hillary and her spouse attack Barak, it shows that Hillary is very desperate to become the president at all cost. She never expect that somebody like Obama could make such a wave and influence the mind of voters in such a short time. Hillary has hitherto believed that she is the anointed candidate of the democrat only for Obama to surface with such a popular movement that sent jitters up the spine of Hillary. She is eminently qualified no doubt but not at the expense of a robust debate.
Politics / Re: Cnn Apologises To Atiku Over Report On Corruption Charge by Aleksys: 5:31pm On Jan 22, 2008
Apparently OBJ pursued Atiku so vehemently in order to exclude him from the election process. That Atiku is indicted should not have been used as an excuse to stop him from contesting the election because indictment by any means is not the same as conviction. What OBJ and EFCC did was like taking over the job of the judiciary by acting as if indictment is equal to conviction. However I believe that Atiku like OBJ is corrupt to high heavens. There is no way both of them can explain their source of stupendous wealth. Atiku was a civil servant in the customs, OBJ was a soldier who became the head of state, yet he is nothing more than a civil servant. So how can they explain the heap of wealth upon which they sit. I believe both of them should be investigated and every other civil servant who became miraculously rich by abusing the position of trust given to them by the masses cnn or no cnn
Foreign Affairs / Re: Obama For President? by Aleksys: 5:01pm On Jan 22, 2008
Then Nigeria electoral law is more on the side of justice and fairness than that of the US. If you win 33% of votes in 66% of the states in Nigeria then you must have majority votes because nobody can win 100% of votes in any of the states. You used Western region as an example, let's face it, if you win 100% of votes cast in Lagos state does not give you numerical advantage if you loose other states in the region. In any election, we are talking about people not some statistics. We have 50 million voters, where they live is immaterial what matters is that each person cast his/her vote according to their conscience. When you reduce that vote to mere statistical expression based on geography (electoral college) you have succeeded in alienating or disenfranchinsing the majority in favor of the minority. I still believe in simple majority.
Foreign Affairs / Re: Obama For President? by Aleksys: 3:23pm On Jan 22, 2008
DARFUR/MCREN

Electoral college is antithetical to democracy because democracy thrives on numerics not on some complex political equations. Demoracy must be based on winning the popular vote. There is no justice in giving power to somebody with 8 votes above someone with 12 votes. This goes to show that there is no perfect democracy anywhere. Perfect democracy should not be afraid to expunge some retrogressive rules when it comes to electing a popular president. Electoral college encourages winning election through the backdoor against the popular wish of the people. Population is population whether you live in New York or Idaho.
Politics / Re: My Records Better Than Obasanjo’s, Says Ibb by Aleksys: 3:06pm On Jan 22, 2008
IBB's defence of himself is only natural. However let us examine the two administration closely solely on records and not conjectures. IBB instituted the devaluation of our currency without corresponding industrial base to boost local economy and diversify export from our monolithic product i.e oil. There was also oil windfall during his regime although it is true that it is not as big as during OBJ's but the fact is that with what is available then, Babangida would have done much more considering the cost of things at the time. Another sour point of IBB's regime is the runaway foreign debt. The voodoo economics of the time ran our economy completely agound that it was virtually a shame to raise your head anywhere in the world and say your are a Nigerian. There are many more points I can mention but let us examine OBJ's term: OBJ made more money during his tenure but then he presided over a new system of government i.e democratic structure with its known baggage of large government. This alone is additional cost to running the government. Also the structure on the ground when OBJ came into power was so fragile and probably worse. The political situation at the time was so pecarious that for any responsible government to make any economic headway, you have to lay a solid political foundation first. However at the end of the day OBJ evidently blew the golden opportunity in this regard. Talk about the economy, OBJ did reasonably better than Babangida in every way and this is not to say that OBJ also is anything above average. The idea of paying off our foreign debts and leaving us free from the control of our creditors is a major victory. However, the government of OBJ should have focused on the second leg of kickstarting the economy by solving the energy problem. $10 billion in a space of ten years on providing power that is not available anywhere is the height of planlessness and absence of strategy. To sum it up OBJ is a poitical failure and a little below average on the economy. Babangida had a brilliant political plan but very dishonest. The idea of two political parties for the nation was a brilliant political science for a nation like Nigeria. That he conducted the freest and fairest election in Nigeria is a plus for him and something we can look into as we look forward to make the country a viable democracy. Having fifty something political parties in a country like Nigeria as we do currently is politically stupid because we dont't have the capacity to manage them. In a nutshell, IBB is a total failure because of his squandermania and his political dishonesty. OBJ too is a failure politically and a little below average on the economy. However, comparing the two OBJ towers above IBB. Period.
Religion / Re: Jehovah's Witnesses: the only true religion? by Aleksys: 12:29am On Jan 22, 2008
It is very unfortunate that instead of focussing on worship you are concentrating on medium. Religion of course is a medium of worship but it should not become the center of our worship. The center and focus of worship should be the Creator of heaven and earth, i.e the Almighty God through Jesus Christ. We waste a lot of time on spiritual semantics to the detriment of the real issue which worshiping God "with a pure heart". It doesn't matter through which medium you worship, the most important thing is to worship with pure heart. If you say you love God but you hate your neighbor how far away from truth can you be. Denominational Christianity is fast becoming like political parties, where candidates are focused on same issue but with different perspectives and philosophies.
On the issue of Jesus being God or a god, I think the Bible is explicit enough. "For he loves the world so much that he sent his only beggotten son". QED Jesus is the son of the living God. Whatever other expression of equality made by Jesus does not equate him with The Almighty God who effected his resurrection. God cannot die. God cannot be killed. "Father, said Jesus, I wish this cup will pass me over, but may your will be done". Let us all focus our attention on the most important dictum of religion which is worshiping with a pure heart. Somebody once said in this forum that "God does not philosophize". How very true. God never dance around facts like some lawyers or politicians does. Phi. 2:11 " and every tongue should openly confess that Jesus Christ is the Lord to the glory of God the father". Period. No controversy. The Bible is very clear about the position of Jesus and that of God the father. The best form of worship is to Love God thy creator and your fellow man like yourself. Above these there is no law.

With all the looting spree by the ex-governors, the only consolation we have right now is the fact that at least they are being arrested and prosecuted. This confirm the popular notion that the worst civilian government is better that the most benevolent military dictatorship. OBJ brace up, the ball may be inching closer to your court.

OBJ once said that Abiola was not the Messaiah that Nigerians are waiting for. Let us pretend for a moment to agree. However OBJ is the Iscariot we did not bargain for. Somebody asked yesterday how a farmer could be such an enterprising petroleum minister for 8years. The answer is right there. A runaway bull in a chinaware store. God bless Nigeria.

Nemesis has a way of catching up with people. Bible says if you refuse to do what is good when it is in your capacity to do so, it is a sin. People like OBJ sleeping with his daughter in-law has committed a serious abomination. No wonder he could not muster enough courage to make political decisions that would have put the nation on the right path to glory. I admit that OBJ did some good things for the nation but his lack of political will to initiate sound political policies that would have taken Nigeria to the height of glory is not unconnected with his sinful tendencies like the one we are hearing from Gbenga. Who said Gbenga is unstable? Give me a break, there is an element of truth in every story and moreover the woman did not deny having romantic tango with the old man. Not even in her counter affidavit. Come to think of it, OBJ is always the first in every church service, what a hypocrisy. I wonder where the old man get the libido to engage a young woman like his daughter in-law in such breath taking sex game. Anyway me I get erectile dysfunction o, I beg make you guys help me appeal to Oga OBJ make he gif me the thing he dey use make I know come loose my only wife to people like him. I go die o.

Nemesis has a way of catching up with people. The Bible says if you know what is good and you refuse to do it, it is a sin. This is not only a sin but a crime. OBJ cannot deny the fact that some simple political decision he failed to take when he was the president could have solve the nation's problem once and for all. However he refuse to take these decisions because of selfish interest. While he did some good things no doubt, but all his achievements has been rubbished by his lack of political will to put the nation on the right path hence all the revelation that is coming out about his escapade with his own daughter in-law. This stinks to high heavens. Gbenga will not be stupid to make such a wild allegation against his father if there is not element of truth in the matter. Those who the gods want to kill they first make mad. Gbenga can you release the juiciest part of the story? I mean did your wife, I mean your future ex-wife tell you how good your randy father is in bed. Somebody once told me that the man's libido is unfathomable. I beg me I get erectile dysfunction jare, may be OBJ can be of help.

Politics / The Elite Rise For Ibadan by Aleksys: 12:35am On Jan 12, 2008
It was to be a public lecture. But it turned out to be a town’s meeting. All who mattered in the land were there. The few, who could not come sent representatives. At issue was the protracted political gridlock that has paralysed affairs in Oyo State and the terror war in the capital city, Ibadan.

The forum was this year’s edition of the annual lecture/luncheon of the Oluyole Club, an influential association composed of eminent indigenes of Ibadan.

The gathering is a yearly ritual hosted by one of the club’s prominent members, Dr. Lekan Are, the chairman of the prestigious Kankanfo Inn, Ibadan, at the beginning of every New Year.
At hand to address the assembly, which included former Chairman of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), Chief Bode Amao; one-time deputy governor in Oyo State, David Abinusawa; eminent industrialist, Chief Kola Daisi; former Information Commissioner in the state, Alhaji Arulogun; a former head of service, Chief Theophillus Akinyemi; CCII National Secretary, Gbade Ishola and former federal director of budget and investment, Chief Omowale Kuye, the Ekerin Olubadan, who represented the Olubadan-in-Council, was the chairman, Ibadan Elders Forum, Ambassador Olusola Sanu.

After a sumptuous feast, Sanu, whose panel has been mediating in the political crisis that has engulfed the state in the last two years, shot straight from the hip, as he expressed disappointment at his hosts’ "studied silence" over the development, having known them for their contributions to the development of the city and concern for the plight of the people as exemplified by the forthright action they took during the Ogunpa flood disaster.

He recalled that what started as a mere political skirmish over an unreasonable demand for a share of the state’s security vote, ultimately, escalated, particularly in the media, thereby polarising the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), with dire consequences for the immediate future.
The seat of government, he noted, became a theatre of violence and war before, during and after the illegal impeachment of the governor.

Faced with these challenges, Ambassador Sanu said a group of well-meaning elders of Ibadan decided to intervene, but were told in unmistakable terms by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, whose intervention they sought, to go back to Ibadan and prevail on the governor to quit from office or be impeached.
This, he said, explained the hardline posture of Adedibu and his cohorts against several peace moves.
Sanu regretted that a state of anarchy completely enveloped the city, with attendant harvest of deaths, breakage of limbs and destruction of property after Ladoja was impeached.

A move to stop this season of anomie and usher in lasting peace saw the birth of Ibadan Elders Forum, which he insisted was not a political or pressure group, but a pathfinder for peace and development in the state, and Ibadanland, contrary to misconception in some quarters.

Determined to end political brigandage, thuggery and intimidation of voters, in order to ensure a new order after the April 2007 elections, Sanu said the forum stepped in the gap by educating the public on how to discharge their franchise.

According to him, when it became obvious that the powers-that-be were bent on imposing an unpopular and unqualified candidate on the people of Oyo State, the Elders Forum "announced to the whole country that it was determined to ensure that only politicians, who are qualified, credible and combined the mental and intellectual capacity to handle the complex task of government are enthroned.
The elderstatesman said the bid was to counter the attempt at foisting on the populace "mediocre and inexperienced candidate."

Consequently, the forum invited and screened candidates jostling for the governorship seat. At the end of the exercise, Senator Abiola Ajimobi of the All Nigeria Peoples Party, (ANPP) emerged the preferred candidate.

Among the assessment’s factors used were the managerial experience, educational background, political pedigree, promise of financial probity and achievements in public and private lives.
Interestingly, remarked Sanu, majority of the panel members did not know Ajimobi in person until the day of the screening. “Three quarter of us never met him until he appeared before us,” he said.

For the Elders Forum, Sanu insisted, the individual was more critical than the party label he wore. He said the elders had no difficulty picking Ajimobi from the pack, for a number of reasons, among which was his demonstration of determination to alleviate poverty.

"He single-handed established a vocational training centre, where thousands of unemployed youth acquired skills in computer operation and engineering, fashion designing, tie and dye fabric production and hair dressing, among others. By December 2006, the centre had graduated over 10,000 artisans, many of whom are gainfully employed," Sanu disclosed.

He said the state electorate apparently heeded the Elders Forum’s admonition to support Ajimobi, going by the massive votes the ANPP candidate got throughout the state.

Although, he won ‘convincingly’ in 24 local government areas, thereby satisfying the relevant sections of the electoral laws to become governor, Sanu regretted that this was not to be as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the PDP candidate, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala winner.
As far as the Elders Forum was concerned, the election was rigged. This began a "battle for the restoration of the dignity of Ibadan and Oyo State. At a post election press conference it addressed shortly after the election, the Forum rejected the INEC results, maintaining that Ajimobi won the polls.

For this, it came under a barrage of attacks, notably from Akala’s kinsmen in Ogbomosho, who accused Ibadan indigenes of attempting to reduce other sections of the state to second class citizens, claiming that the governorship of Oyo State had always been controlled by Ibadan.

Also, the terror gangs began a fresh round of hostilities. In broad daylight, hoodlums in several buses paraded the streets of Ibadan, killing and maiming perceived enemies of the PDP and its garrison commander," Sanu recalled, alluding to Adedibu.

He said following the ascendancy of President Umaru Yar’Adua, the Forum wrote him, urging his intervention.

The president responded by re-deploying the erstwhile commissioner of police in the state, who had given Adedibu’s henchmen cover for their nefarious activities, as well as reduction in the number of policemen attached to the maverick politician. He regretted that due to intervention by some familiar quarters, some of these gestures were soon reversed.

Tracing the cost of the political upheaval on the state, Sanu pointed out that Ibadan and indeed, the whole Oyo State, which, on account of its nearness to Lagos, ought to attract growth in industry, which would have provided employment for many, had lost the opportunity due to the lingering political instability.
He reiterated the position of the Forum on the last governorship election in the state, saying it was manipulated through rigging, threat and other irregularities.

He added: "The forum believes that Senator Ajimobi won the election. The Forum restates publicly its unalloyed support for Senator Ajimobi, and as law-abiding citizens, we put our hopes on the judiciary and await the law to takes its course through the elections tribunal now sitting. We are aware that various attempts have been made to bribe members of the tribunal, we believe that these efforts will fail."
According to Sanu, the forum rejected what he described as the "Robinhood economic system," whereby Adedibu, like the famous English character in "Sherwood Forest," would rob the rich to feed the poor, by wanting to control the state and local governments allocations from the Federal Account and in return, all those who need a good lunch would line up to get it.

"We believe the role of government is to provide for all her citizens. All those who handle the resources of the state must be accountable to the people for the use they make of the resources."
He described as propaganda the claim that Ibadan people wanted to monopolize the governorship of the state, stressing: "We state that empirical evidence does not justify this statement. Akintola, Ige, Popoola, Nwosu, Adisa, and others are certainly not Ibadan sons, and yet, they governed the land."

Sanu challenged the elite to wake up and actively participate in politics, observing that, things would not have gone awry as it did, if they had not been indifferent to the game of power, adding: "We have acted as if we are totally unconcerned about the quality of those who govern us. The result is that power has gravitated to those Nnamdi Azikwe would refer to as rascal and coxcombs."

Sanu’s talk provoked a rash of comments from his audiences, some of who amplified his observations. For instance, a former member of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Moshood Akinade, said it would be misplacing facts to accuse the Ibadans as being anti-Ogbomosho from where Akala, the incumbent governor, hails. He noted that during the crisis of the Action Group, in the First Republic, the Ibadans were the major supporters and allies of Chief Ladoke Akintola, an Ogbomosho man, when he rebelled against the party leader, Chief Awolowo.

Also, he said, Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo, an Ibadan man, was the one who furnished the OAU Governing Council with vital records of the contributions of Akintola to the development of the university, which subsequently earned the late premier the honour of having one of the halls on the campus named after him.

Another commentator, one Dr. Lawal, noted that it would be difficult to heed the guest speaker’s admonition to take part in the politics of the lands, explaining: "I wonder how this will be possible, considering that there is no level-playing field, where those who play politics now are steeped in violence, and where your emergence as candidate for local government chairmanship depends on who you know and if the political godfather favours you or not."

He regretted that riff-raffs had taken over the political stage and public offices in the state because nobody cared to scrutinize their academic qualifications and other moral credentials.

Hardly had he finished his speech when Chief Kuye shot up from his seat and retorted: "Nobody will make the ground to be levelled. If Ajimobi waited for that to happen, he would not have been lucky to be voted for, the way he had been. You cannot be hiding in your bedroom and expect power to land on your lap. We all have to come out and confront the battle we’re now confronted with."

The next speaker, Dr. Are, supported the view of Kuye. He said: "We must encourage our children to go into politics, because the politicians decide our lives. The plea is, let those who can be in politics, be there."
For those who may not be keen on active partisan politics, Dr. Are said, what they could do to help was to ensure that reasonable people contest.

Other speakers described developments in the state as tragic, noting that there had been no visible development since the government came in about six months ago, because majority of the office holders were bereft of ideas.

Apparently taking a swipe at the government, one speaker quipped: "The garrison commander stepped in and took charge because nobody was there to say, "hey, this is a town of people with two eyes, we will not be led by a one-eyed man."

Veteran broadcaster and proprietor of Ibadan-based Splash FM Radio Station, Chief Bayo Akande, on his part, stressed the need for public enlightenment to re-orientate the people towards good governance, accountability and probity.

He said that some people opposed to his station’s campaign, in line with these objectives, had threatened to burn it down, adding that he was undaunted, so long as the radio station was objective and broadcast in strict adherence to the codes of the Nigeria Broadcasting Commission, (NBC).
The session, however, ended on a note of optimism, that there was nothing with a beginning that did not also have an end. The end to the sordid state of affairs in the state, speaker after speaker predicted, is certainly imminent.

Politics / Fg Plans 5% Tax For Road Maintenance by Aleksys: 2:01am On Jan 09, 2008
The federal government with its ceaseless war on the middleclass is mind boggling. It was like yesterday in a kind of policy somersault that OBJ cancelled all the toll gates and replace it with fuel price hike. Like Oliver Twist, the FG again is asking for another hike in fuel prices. It is only in this country that price of commodities only goes up and never down no matter what. I am sick and tired of this unresponsive government that we always troop out to vote for only to turn around to become our enemy as soon as they are sworn in. What is wrong with the toll gates in the first place? What happened to all the money made from the toll gates before they were eventually closed? Recently New York and New Jersey MTA declared that almost $1million dollar is made monthly at the Holland Tunnel toll gate. That money is used judiciously to maintain the tunnel. With hundred of thousands of vehicle passing through the toll gate everyday, why should a government in its right senses decide to close the toll gates only to hike the price of petroleum products. I think the time has come for the middle class in this country to come together and seize the running of this nation from this hawks. This so called leaders as we have today is only good at mortgaging the future of our children and the time to act is NOW.

Whatever we say about Abiola's unrealized presidency will remain hypothetical. We have seen demon turned around to become saint. Labelling Abiola a criminal is nothing short of libel. This guy was never tried or convicted in any known court of the land. He was never indicted by any tribunal, why then should we villified the dead who is not in a position to defend himself. He may be a fool, a nimcompoop or even worse still an armed robber, as long as he was allowed to contest the election and he was voted for by millions to emerge the winner, it is more criminal to deny him of his mandate. You cannot indict a person based on intent. We have all lost that opportunity to witness the result of Abiola's presumed failed presidency in embryo. Nothing and nobody is at the receiving end of our outrage and unfortunately that chance will never come, no not in this life. may be hereafter.

There and then the people of this great nation will let it be known where their heart is. Yaradua is the best thing that has ever happened to this country. QED

Celmel
There are some points in your statement that deserves betterclarification. First you said you hired a lawyer to advocate for you, what is the lawyer doing when things are not working as it should. This protest you are mounting should have been done by your lawyer in the court of law. There is one thing that I noticed in this new dispensation, the judiciary has proved to be at the fore front of championing the cause of the downtroden. What was your lawyer doing that he did not institute a civil suit. If you have a good case, the court should have been the appropriate theater to play out the whole script for the whole world to see.
You cannot mix your personal grudge against your employer with your assumed corruption or illegalit(ies) going on in your office. Employee/employer dispute is better handled by industrial arbitration panel or the law court. EFCC to the best of my knowledge is not the appropriate office to handle your case. I rest my case.
Politics / Re: Was Colonialism Good For Africa? by Aleksys: 6:09pm On Dec 29, 2007
Let us talk about Nigeria as a colonized nation. Why should we remain stagnant for so long after independence. Like somebody said earlier, we have some bunch of nincompoops parading themselves as self made Messiahs. What excuse do they have almost 50 years after independence. Right from Tafawa Balewa to Ironsi's aberration, then Gowon blind interregnum to Buhari's misplaced priorities, then the brazen brigandage and blatant robbery of Babangida's regime to the genocidal reign of Abacha and the appalling government of OBJ. I am sick of talking colonialism for half a century. Safe for people like Awolowo with his vision for the old western region I am yet to see any leader in Nigeria. All the rest are bunch of buffoons who wants power for what they are going to get from it not for the interest of the nation and the people. What we need is a leader not a president. Any fool can be president but not everybody can have the vision of a leader.
Politics / Re: New Year Predictions(true Or Fallacy?) by Aleksys: 8:55pm On Dec 25, 2007
Why not positive prophesy for a change? Why doom, gloom, death, impeachment et al? For goodness sake can somebody see some silver linnen in their dreams or in their prophetic trance for a change? Why not Nigeria is going to experience growth if we do so and so or better still, Nigeria will start to enjoy uninterrupted power supply from this year. Prophesy should not be message of disaster all of the time. Well David Mark, Mr. Speaker Bankole and others, better make your way to the prophet and drop your not so widow's mite to avoid this so unimminent prophesy of the man of the gods.
Politics / Re: Fresh Plot To Remove Nuhu Ribadu by Aleksys: 4:50pm On Dec 25, 2007
The side of Ribadu that many people don't really know is that, this is a guy whose father was a minister in the first republic. He is from that part of Nigeria where feudalism is a trado-political culture yet he refuse to identify with them. He may have comfortably joined the band wagon and continue to make his millions probably billions using his family connection and good name but shunned all that. Contentment, that is the only thing I noticed in Nuhu's life. Our life does not depend on the abundance that we have and Ribadu knows and displays that. You cannot only live by words but by deeds also. Nuhu is a new Nigerian of our dream personified.
Religion / Re: Can You Decode This? by Aleksys: 4:35pm On Dec 25, 2007
If Jesus is God, then he would not have died because God will never die. Secondly, the bible is expressly clear about the fact that Jesus is the son of God and not equal to God. "Nobody can come to me except my father who is in heaven draws him" said Jesus. This statement was made by Jesus while on earth. That is to say Jesus was on earth and God his father is in the heavens. The idea of trinity was smuggled in to christian doctrine to give scriptural legitimacy to some idolatry traditions that permeates the then Roman empire. The Bible is not ambigous about the identity of God, Jesus and the holy spirit. And yes, somebody said the quoran is an ordinary book, that statement is uncharitable because if you read it you will discover that the thoughts therein are inspired. Do not condemn what you do not have knowledge of. The Bible encourage us to make sure of all things and hold fast to what is true.
