911 call: 'I have killed the woman that mess up my life'

By JIM ADAMS, Star Tribune

July 26, 2008

Shortly after his estranged wife was shot in a St. Louis Park parking lot, Michael C. Iheme, called 911 and said, "I have killed the woman that mess my life up, a woman that had destroyed me," according to charges filed Friday.

Iheme, 50, was charged with first-degree, premeditated murder in the death of Anthonia E. Iheme, 28. He is being held on $1 million bail in the Hennepin County jail.

Anthonia Iheme was shot Thursday as she left work at the Sholom Home West, 3620 Phillips Pkwy., an assisted-living center. Two witnesses reported seeing a man matching Iheme's description with a gun near his wife's car in the parking lot.

Hennepin County court records show that she had an active harassment restraining order against Iheme. The supporting affidavit suggests a history of domestic abuse, including threats by Iheme to kill his wife. The complaint said police in Brooklyn Park, where the couple lived most recently, had a number of domestic assault calls.

One of Anthonia Iheme's co-workers saw her get into her car about 2:35 p.m. Thursday and then saw Iheme get out of his car and shoot at Anthonia's car, which lurched forward, clipped a van, jumped a curb and rolled down a hill into a fence. Iheme followed the car down the hill and fired more shots, the complaint said.

A woman who lived down the hall from the couple when they lived in Brooklyn Center said Iheme took care of their two children and his wife worked. Anthonia moved out this spring, and Iheme and the children moved later, said the woman, who asked not to be identified out of fear of retaliation from Iheme's friends.

She said once when she locked herself out and had a locksmith opening her apartment door, Iheme came into the hall in his underwear about 10 p.m. and complained about the noise. He glared at her when she asked him to put on some clothes, she said.

On Thursday, Iheme was arrested at the scene and a semi-automatic handgun was found near his car, police said. Inside, police found a gun permit and Cabela's receipt for the gun, charges said. He told arresting officers: "I called the police, I shot her. , I shot her."

Police also said that an hour and a half before the shooting, Iheme went to the day-care center for their son, 4, and daughter, 3, and left new emergency contact information, "in case something happened today." Jim Adams • 612-673-7658

@lucrabasi, I did not intend to divert the thread, just caught up in discourse with Mr. Kobojunkie.

back to the playpump thingy the link to their site : www.playpumps.org/

and yes I still intend to go ahead with it.

My bros is back at home now and I have been talking to him to see whom I need to talk to to have one of those installed in our village.

I am a big believer in small things growing into great things. I believe that the changes that this will bring to the village are not just about not having to go to the village pump, but minimizing that laborious effort that goes into that will also help in terms of improving the quality of family lives, reduce infant and mother mortality rates ( lugging water from the stream when you are 7-8 months pregnant does not help this at all). among other things cool

or like this?

A Nigerian woman has been murdered in Dallas Texas, United States of America, a day after her 46th birthday. Mrs Monireti Abeni Akeredolu, a nurse, was shot in the head four times in her car by a gunman who calmly drove away after the dastardly act.

A witness at Mayhield apartments, 2900 Block, Mayfield Road, where the incident happened on September 8, 2005, said the killer drove a Lexus car.

Among those arrested by detective was Monireti’s estranged husband of 16 years, Ebenezer Akeredolu, 48. He was said to have been arrested by the police four hours after the murder, after he allegedly crashed his Lexus car.

Mr Akeredolu was charged with murder, but later granted bail in the sum of $100,000. It was further learnt that he has remained in prison custody following his inability to meet the bail conditions. The murder trial continues.
Already, the tragedy has sparked a row between the families of the couple, both of whom hailed from Owo town in Ondo State.

Angry relatives of the deceased were said to have stormed the husband’s family compound spoiling for war. They reportedly, however, met the compound deserted, the inhabitants having fled on getting wind of the impending reprisal attack.
A family source told Daily Sun that Monireti’s death was particularly painful as she was the bread winner of the family. Before her death, Monireti allegedly complained several times to her relations about the trouble in her marriage, but efforts to resolve the rift came to nought.

It was gathered that the couple’s marriage hit the rock when Akeredolu allegedly fell from being a rich man who bought designer wears for his wife, to one who sold ice cream in Atlanta, Georgia. He had also allegedly lost his big mansion by the lake in Arlington, a Dallas suburb and a fleet of cars.

Akeredolu was said to have told friends that he suspected his wife was having an affair. He was said to have later discovered that the man dating his wife was a Nigeria-based notable entertainment promoter and socialite (names withheld), married to a popular Yoruba actress (names withheld). It was learnt that aside the popular actress who had two kids for the socialite, the man has another wife in London.

One of Monireti’s friends said: "It was her determination to keep her relationship with… that caused this mess. She worked hard here in the States but spent it all on… She went to Nigeria more than three times this year to see him."

When Monireti’s belongings were being moved from her apartment, several Western Union money transfer receipts to the tune of thousands of dollars sent to the entertainment promoter were found.
Daily Sun gathered that friends and relatives converged on September 17, at the Moore Funeral Home, 1219 N. Davis, off Randol Mill Road, Arlington Texas, to say goodbye to Monireti. A trust fund has been set up by friends for her son, Ebenezer Akeredolu, Jnr.
The deceased is survived by her mother, Mrs Animotu Adetula, a brother and two sisters. angry angry

Nigerian kills wife in Maryland, US

"Emeruwa later that morning apparently in the climax of an argument stabbed his wife to death. "

A Nigerian woman was found murdered in a Burtonsville, Maryland, U.S. home she lived with her husband and three children. Police responding to a report of an unconscious woman, found the lifeless body of 36-year-old Chidiebere Omenihu Ochulo around 2:30 a.m, Monday at their home. There was no sign of her 41-year-old husband, Kelechi Charles Emeruwa and their three children. Mr. Emeruwa was seen washing a blood stained knife according to unconfirmed reports. He was believed to have fled the city with the children.

Police on failing to locate Mr. Emeruwa and the children at their home, commenced a manhunt for the suspect and issued an Amber Alert on the missing children. The children who share the last name Emeruwa, are Elijah(4), Antinnoe(6) and Jachi(cool. Amber Alert is a U.S. voluntary partnership program between law-enforcement agencies, broadcasters, and transportation agencies to activate an urgent bulletin in the most serious child-abduction cases. Broadcasters use the Emergency Alert System (EAS) to air a description of the abducted child and suspected abductor.

The deceased had filed domestic violence complaints with authorities in the past, also called the police to their home on several occasions Emeruwa was abusive to her. In January 2006, Emeruwa was charged with second-degree assault for head-butting his wife twice in the lip, according to court documents filed in Prince George’s County. The troubled relationship made Emeruwa’s family members concerned of Ochulo's safety.

Around 6:15 p.m the same day a car matching the description of the suspect's was spotted in Olney, one of the neighboring towns. The witness contacted police who pursued the car, with the suspect ramming several cruisers and police cars before coming to a halt at a dead end. Police thereafter shot out the tires.

Police arrested the suspect, 41-year-old Kelechi Charles Emeruwa, on a first-degree murder warrant in the death of his wife. The children were unharmed and taken into custody by police. The children would be cared for by Child Protective Services until they could be placed with family members, according to police.

Emeruwa was charged in court the following day, Tuesday, with the murder of his wife. The suspect, wearing a green jumpsuit, appeared via closed-circuit television for the hearing in Montgomery County District Court in Rockville. The judge ordered him to turn over his passport and held him without bond. Charging documents indicate the suspect stayed with the children at their family home while his wife traveled to Nigeria.

On Monday, Emeruwa drove to Dulles Airport to pick up the wife upon her arrival from Nigeria. Ochulo was upset with the husband for driving her car. Emeruwa later that morning apparently in the climax of an argument stabbed his wife to death. Their three children may have witnessed part of the attack. Ikenna, the suspect’s brother called police after he arrived the couple's home and found Ochulo sprawled on the floor with the whereabouts of other members of the family unknown.

A preliminary hearing in the case is set for January 26

Kobojunkie:

What you are saying is not wrong at all BUT you have to realize that even if ALL Nigerians went back there to fix things one day, reality is with the current ineptitude that exists in our country today, I am talking of lack of security, corruption, bad leadership, lack of motivation by the people to actually want and demand change, we will be back where we are in an instance.

I get this, but I also get that in reality the odds of the "powers that be' actually doing something and changing their own mindset, talk less of dealing with the millions of Nigerians who quite frankly right now have resigned themselves to a life of corruption, theft and squalor, is next to impossible right now, or at least I do not think it will happen in my lifetime.

So what do we do? Do we remain abroad and carry on as if nothing is going on back home, because despite it's rottenness, that is home after all abi?

Romance / Love Letter By National Hospital Boss Tendered In Court by AmakaOne(f): 8:57am On Jul 29, 2008
MEBRIM UCHECHUKWU, Abuja

A photocopy of the love letter allegedly written by the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the National Hospital, Abuja, Dr. Olusegun Ajuwon, to a staff nurse in the hospital, Ihuoma Chinasa Doris, was yesterday tendered before an Abuja Federal High Court.

The letter which bore a signature was said to have been delivered, by the CMD when he visited the nurse and found that she was not at home.

The letter read: "Ihuoma Dear, I will come back to pass the night with you. For your info, say yes to my request and I will provide u your heart desire. Your love, Ajuwon."

Ajuwon, wife, Matron Julie Ajuwon and five others, were dragged to a Federal High Court over alleged unethical practices against the nurse.

Also in what seems like a back up to the above letter contained in Ihuoma’s reply to defendants counter affidavit, a matron, Deborah Olorunmaiye, an assistant chief nursing officer (ACNO) in charge of In-Patients Male Surgical (IPMS), wrote a letter to Ihuoma in respect of alleged intention of the CMD towards her.

The letter read: "To Doris Ihuoma, I do not have any problem with you as I was doing this in order to retain my job. I gave you motherly advice to stay in our club, which you call a cult. Have relationship with the CMD and save your job, come forward for deliverance, you refused. All I want to let you know is that we mothers do it. Me, I keep relationship with Abawede in order to keep my job. They tell me that you refused to give them again, the term you agreed in giving you job.

"Thank you for all your usual assistance and I want to assure you that any plan by the management to dismiss you or use me to tell lots of lies on you and implicate you will not work. Thank you."

Despite this, the defendants urged the court to throw out the case on the grounds that plaintiff lacks the wherewithal to pay for damages in the event of loss of the substantive suit.

The nurse accused them of trying to destroy her life and career and that the court should intervene.

But the CMD denied all the allegations saying the attitude of the plaintiff made the hospital management to subject her to psychiatric examination because she accused some principal officers of the hospitals of being members of a secret cult.

In a 42 paragraph counter affidavit to the originating processes and deposed to by one Miss Medina Sanusi, the defendants said: "Considering the gravity of the allegation above, the 2nd respondent, CMD, immediately invited the plaintiff to clarify the allegations, particularly that the CMD found it difficult to accept the plaintiff’s story based on his personal knowledge of the staff mentioned.

"That the plaintiff insisted on her allegation and further claimed that the meeting where the cult members invited her to join took place in an open ward during official working hours in the afternoon.

"That worried by the state of mind of the plaintiff, CMD invited a consultant psychiatrist, Dr.[Mrs.] Ephraim Oluwanuga, who is with the national hospital, because of the above allegation and other several complaints and observations from her department in the form of queries and her answers to such queries.

In the suit entitled: FHC/ABJ/CS/238/08 the plaintiff also included the following as respondents; national hospital Abuja, S.A. Ibrahim and Dr. Patience Ahmed, Dr. Oluwanuga and Dr. Ibrahim Wada.

The aggrieved nurse in a 43 paragraph affidavit in support of a motion on notice which she deposed to herself, stated that he did not have any problem with the hospital including the CMD except that on employment in the hospital, he allegedly wanted to go out with her a request she turned down even with some reasons assumedly understood by the CMD.

The affidavit also noted that the CMD summoned the nurse in his office and offered her fruit juice which she refused to drink immediately and rather told him that he would take it later which resulted in the CMD forcefully taking it away from her.

According to the affidavit, "when I refused to take the fruit juice, the CMD forcefully took the drink from my hand and said that he is declaring me a psychopath and that he is going to treat me as a psychiatric patient. There and then the CMD called other persons including the 3rd to 7th defendants on his phone and some other persons.

"One of the persons he called I later discovered to be Dr. [Mrs.] Ephraim Oluwanuga who came in with an already drawn injection in a syringe filled with unknown substance. That at this stage, I knew that it was a grand conspiracy already concluded against me and I knew that the injection they wanted to give me was not going to be in my favour"

Against the foregoing, the plaintiff is praying the court for an order restraining 2nd to the 7th defendants and their agents from terminating applicant’s employment with the 1st defendant pending the determination of the motion on notice.

She also asked for an order restraining the 2nd to 7th defendants/respondents from further harassing, intimidating, arresting or attempting to arrest the plaintiff for the purpose of injecting plaintiff with drug or substance which content is unknown to plaintiff pending the determination of the motion on notice.

Besides, she demanded for an order of the court restraining defendants by themselves agents and privies from stopping the salary, benefit and allowances of plaintiff pending the determination of motion on notice.

Kobojunkie:

@Poster, as long as you bear in mind that

1) There are thousands of Nigerians/Organizations out there already involved in the very areas your passion is in
2) You will face so many obstacles
3) Whatever you end up doing might not change Nigeria or the lives of the people in a twinkling of an eye… then I say you are in good place

But if you consider the many billions of dollars that have been poured in by various organizations from all over the world into the same area, you realize the problem is not so much who is going to help but how can we make sure that the changes become lasting ones and not end up like the many projects before them. This is the case in Africa. TRILLIONS of dollars have been poured into that continent so far and look around sometime and you will be shocked that you barely see change. Problem is not how many people that are actually helping but more than all that. There is high probability that Africa will go back to the same way it is even if you decided to push all Africans today to go develop the place. As long as that ‘mentality’ is there, we will continue to drown.

@kobojunkie

I know that throughout Naija "Organisations" are doing things like this, but I still think that if we as individuals contributed to our own indigenous communities then there would not be much need for these "organizations" to be mobilising on our behalf, no be so?

this is about the proverbial one stone thrown in a pool and sending ripples so that it eventually touches the whole nation.
maybe I am being naive and optimistic in my youth but I think all great ideas must have started with some degree of optimism and naivete?
Crime / Dead Corps Member Found In Oba Of Itire's Shrine by AmakaOne(f): 8:44am On Jul 29, 2008
The police at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Lagos, made a shocking discovery when they allegedly discovered the body of a youth corps member in a shrine at the palace of the Onitire of Itire, Oba Lateef Abayomi Dauda.

The Chemical Engineering graduate of Lagos State University (LASU) was found tied with a rope around his neck. He was identified as Abiodun Seriki.

Police sources at SCID Panti told P.M.News that the report of the missing youth corper was initially lodged at the Itire police station three days before his dead body was found.

The parents of the deceased had also bought airtime on radio and television seeking information about their missing child.

A police source told P.M.News that a young boy of about 14 (name withheld), who had scaled the back fence of the palace to pluck mango fruits discovered the dead body.

He immediately jumped back and rushed to Itire police station to report.

The police then mobilised and stormed the palace, where the dead body was recovered.

They promptly arrested the entire household of the Oba, including his two wives and his seven children.

The Oba had visited the Homicide Department of the SCID twice and the police said he had made a useful statement.

An unconfirmed report indicated that the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DC) in charge of SCID, Panti, Mr. Oyeleye Oyebade, last Friday ordered the detention of the Oba.

An irate mob attempted to burn down the palace, prompting the police to beef-up security around the premises.

A resident of Itire, who pleaded anonymity for obvious reasons, accused the Onitire family of murder.

“They have just finished their Oro festival. Each time they do this Oro of a thing, this is how they murder people. The police should not bungle this case as we are watching,” he said.

Contacted, Mr. Leye Oyebade, the DC at Panti said: “All I can tell you now is that a dead body was discovered at the palace. What we are investigating now is homicide. Investigation will reveal if it is murder, manslaughter or suicide.”

Food / Re: African Salad by AmakaOne(f): 5:33pm On Jul 28, 2008
Ugba: The african Salad
Ingredients:

Basic Ingredients For Making Ugba Salad (Serves six)
            (1) Palm Oil (450g or 1lb)
            (2) Liquid Potash (Potassium Carbonate -- Dissolved white solid in water)
            (3) Hot Pepper -- 2 whole
            (4) Crayfish -- 1 Whole sliced
            (5) Salt to taste

Roughage For Preparation of African Salads
            (1) Abacha or processed cassava slices
            (2) Garden Eggs
            (3) Ukazi Leaves
            (4) Ugba
            (5) Leaf of Garden Egg Plant
            (6) Onions

Other Ingredients That May be Used in African Salads
            (1) Stockfish (Dry codfish)
            (2) Kpomo or Cow skin
            (3) Smoked fish

1. Using a bow dissolve the potash (akaun) in water, a little warm water and add the palm oil to it. Stir the potash solution until it turns yellow in colour and thickens.
2. Dissolve the maggi and salt in little hot water and add to the mixture. Add the pepper, onion, crayfish and stir.
3. Add all remaining ingredients and thoroughly stir until all is well mixed.
4. Add the shredded leaves and taste for enough salt and maggi. Add the chopped garden eggs and serve with fried fish or isi gwu, over a cold drink (beer, stout, or palmy).

It may not be likely to find ugba -- made from these seeds -- in African grocery stores in Europe or America. The reason being that ugba does not keep well. Ugba must be used within two weeks or it would ferment to the point of rot. The unfermented ugba may keep longer if kept in airtight cellophane wrapping.

The preparation of the oil bean seed to make ugba begins with cooking of the seeds, slicing the cooked seeds into thin strips and washing and fermenting them for 3 to 4 days before use. When first sliced, the ugba has a grayish white color, after fermentation it turns dark brown. Then it is ready for use in salads.

Usually, you do not have to bother with the above preparation. Ugba comes in pre-prepared strips ready to go into your salad.

As I mentioned earlier, you may not find the actual ugba in stores outside Nigeria. But you never know, there may be one or two intrepid merchants out there who have found ways to import and preserve Ugba long enough to sell them.

In any case, do not worry, if you can not find the ugba, there is a variety of ingredients for making the African salad. The basic ingredients (without the ugba) are the same and easily available in African stores in Europe or America. The ugba itself may be considered part of the roughage used in the salad, and there are a number of vegetables that can substitute for roughage. Any of these vegetables can also be used in combination with or without Ugba to make the salad.

Use of a basic set of ingredients ensures that you always get that unique taste of the African salad.

Everything you need, except perhaps the Ugba slices itself, for this dish can be found in your local grocery store.

Celebrities / Why I Wed Secretly - 9ice by AmakaOne(f): 5:42pm On Jul 25, 2008
R AVE singer 9ice will be on stage performing for the second time in London tonight. There?s no honeymoon yet for the 28 year-old hit-maker who tied the knots with his lover Toni Payne last week.

And as the quiet wedding continues to set more tongues wagging, he has opened up exclusively to E-Punch on why he opted for a low-key wedding.

In a brief interview, a day before he left for London, 9ice told us: ?You know I?m at a very busy period in my career. I really can?t afford to take time off work now.

Having a very big wedding would have taken a lot of time to plan. But we have engagements. So I thought it wise to just have very close friends and family members.

It wasn?t a secret wedding per se. Just that we wanted it quietly. It would have been my wish to have more people. Even my fans. But it just didn?t work out like that.?

And, reacting to notions that he may be too young, and not yet ripe for marriage, he said, ?Most young people don?t want to get married. They believe once you?re married, you?re tied down, you can?t eat out, you can?t do a lot of things. It?s a lie.

Everything is still the same. On the contrary, what marriage does is that it makes you more responsible. You are more respected, and as an artiste, more corporate bodies will like to associate with you?.

9ice?s wedding to Toni Payne, on Thursday, July 17, caught many unaware.

As early as 9:30 am, the couple had exchanged vows, surrounded by less than a dozen friends and family members. But the engagement, which held later same day at the bride?s Surulere, Lagos home, attracted more guests, including D?Banj, Don Jazzy and Jah Bless.

The singer?s wife is reportedly already carrying their first baby.

Food / Re: Best Baby Food by AmakaOne(f): 11:20am On Jul 24, 2008
my mum fed all of us this when we were growing up

Beans porridge (thats what I call it)

Ingredients
1. Beans
2. Cray Fish
3. Butter

Wash the cover of the beans off (as if you want to make akara or moi-moi) and also to prevent the child from diarrhea, soak the beans in water for a while.
Grind the beans until smooth.
Boil some water, add a bit (just a bit) of crayfish into the water. Add about a tablespoon of the beans paste. Stir while it cooks, it becomes thick very quickly. Add a pinch of salt when it is ready. Add butter to taste.
Its like making pap.
Serve immediately it cools a bit. when it cools it 'turns' into moi-moi.
Wash and soak for almost a whole day to soften the beans, reducing cooking time.
With time (as she grows older),  add other things like fish, green pepper etc.

I am still doing research into being able to provide better access to water for people in my villa and I found this amazing concept being done in South Africa.

It's called the playpump

It's actually such a simple idea, I wonder why it is not being implemented more widely in Africa sha

According to their site,

Benefits of the PlayPump® Water System

Access to clean drinking water is the critical first step for addressing a wide range of health, education, gender and economic issues. With access, children and their families live longer, healthier lives.

While the health benefits of a clean water supply are critical, other benefits flow from the PlayPump® water system as well. Children are playing and staying in school instead of hauling water. While they are having fun, children are learning self-confidence and interpersonal skills. Play stimulates bodies and minds.

Women benefit too, as they no longer risk injury from transporting heavy containers of water over great distances, and they can use the time saved to better care for their children and start small enterprises that bring additional food and income to their families.

The PlayPump system can increase awareness of how to reduce the spread of HIV/AIDS. Public health messages on PlayPump billboards promote healthy behaviors that limit the spread of HIV/AIDS in rural Africa. Also, in order for HIV infected people to remain healthy as long as possible, adequate water supplies and sanitary facilities are of the utmost importance. Clean water is needed to take medication.

In addition to helping to provide access to clean water, the PlayPump water system is uniquely sustainable and creates economic benefits. The 2,500-liter water tank provides a rare advertising opportunity in rural communities. On each PlayPump storage tank, Roundabout Outdoor leases two sides of the raised storage tank for consumer advertising and leases the other two sides for public health messaging.

Advertising revenue pays for pump maintenance for up to 10 years. Roundabout Outdoor trains local crews on the installation and maintenance, generating new jobs for local workers.

And the installation of PlayPump water systems is helping to achieve the United Nations’ Millennium Development Goals.

While children have fun spinning on the PlayPump merry-go-round (1), clean water is pumped (2) from underground (3) into a 2,500-liter tank (4), standing seven meters above the ground.
A simple tap (5) makes it easy for adults and children to draw water. Excess water is diverted from the storage tank back down into the borehole (6).
The water storage tank (7) provides a rare opportunity to advertise in outlaying communities.  All four sides of the tank are leased as billboards, with two sides for consumer advertising and the other two sides for health and educational messages.

Culture / Re: Eco Friendly Construction In Naija by AmakaOne(f): 12:02pm On Jul 21, 2008
I'm no building expert, but basically the house was built using local materials which were sourced without destroying the environment. (i.e the wood for the windows/ doors etc which is also chemical free) , the stones that were used in the walls and paving, the grass thatching (which I believe is very efficient in terms of insulating and cooling the house etc.)

In the garden, gravel, paving and mulching around plants have been used rather than bark which can also cause allergies. Native plants were chosen for the garden because they don't create a pollen problem for allergy sufferers. These plants are pollinated by bees rather than the wind. (Wind-blown pollen can be a major irritant to allergy sufferers).
Native plants were also planted to create a 'flow-on' affect between existing bush at the rear of the property and new landscaping. Leafy rather than flowery plants were selected for the garden in a bid to keep pollen levels down and avoid adverse side effects for allergy sufferers. A mix of medium to tall trees has been planted in the garden areas.

I will try to find out more.

At all who replied, thanks for your posts. I am a new graduate and I hadn't been home in a whileand like I said b4 what I saw scared the living beetles out of me. There is so much that I have been taking for granted sha. I appreciate your advice. I think I would like to work back home in my villa though, especially regarding water and sanitation.

In this 21st century to think that people in my own village are still walking miles to carry water in a container from a communal tap or well, while I just get up step into the shower/ bath or dive into swimming pool without a second thought just upsets me sha.

I'm not even sure where or when i am going to start, but I know i must do something and God willing I will do it soon.

thanks for your replies and if you guys have any other advice I would seriously welcome it.
