He may not be the worst, but majority of the people he governs do not like him. It looks like he was vehemently forced down the throats of the people, who are not the least bit satisfied to have him govern them. i speak from the happening around. i see a man that is been fought by "god-fathers" that were deprived of their usually share of the state cake. It is never easy to fight strong holds and have yourself work freely without a crack at your back. If there is one thing that must be done first in this state is to fight god-fatherhood and ohakim has done that to a large extent. These god-fathers have structure all over the state and with this they can sell anything to the public as propaganda or rumor. This in turn has created a bad perception in the minds of the people that even though they see the truth they will fail to appreciate it because their minds are been made up already and their vision has been clouded by propaganda and news without facts. now here are the questions what happened to our morality and our humanity? where did we keep our sense of reasoning? Let us filter whatever we hear, criticize constructively and vote wisely. |
Politics / Ohakim, My Candidate – Jonathan by arinzeeze: 6:09pm On Apr 24, 2011 |
Ohakim, My Candidate – Jonathan by Rozzita Iwunwa, Steve Onwuegbuchi & Ezinne Ude President Goodluck Jonathan has sounded it loud and clear to the people of Imo State that he has no other governorship candidate for tomorrow's election in the state than Governor Ikedi Ohakim. The President made this clear on Friday in Owerri in a rally to mark the grand finale of the women wing of the state chapter of Peoples Democratic Party held at Dan Anyiam Stadium. President Jonathan whose message was conveyed to the people of the state by his Minister for Labour and Productivity, Chief Emeka Wogu cautioned the people on the danger for a state to be in the opposition. He made it clear that any state that did not produce a PDP governor is in opposition and reminded the people that such governor would not be in the PDP caucus meeting where party affairs would be discussed. He described governor Ohakim as one of his children in the PDP family and urged the people of the state not to listen to anybody in the opposition to deceive them. “In Ohakim is another Sam Mbakwe. The President has found the late Sam Mbakwe in Ohakim. Chief Ikedi Ohakim is the candidate of President Jonathan. President Jonathan who showered encomiums on the state governor for his memorable achievements said the governor had by his record of achievements opened a new chapter of development in the state. Adding her voice, the wife of the President, Dame Patience Jonathan expressed her immense gratitude to the people of the state for the overwhelming votes they gave the President. She reassured the women of the country that the President will not disappoint them in his promise to give them 35% opportunities in government and made it clear to them that the 35% affirmative would be easily actualized if the state produces a PDP governor who will carry out the instructions of the President at the state level. The First Lady of the nation reminded the women of the danger in electing a non-PDP person as governor, because a governor of another party may not have such programme in his party programme. In his address, the State Governor, Chief Ikedi Ohakim, appealed to Imo people to come out enmass and vote for him and other PDP candidates for the House of Assembly in tomorrow's election. He reassured that whatever he may have done wrongly would be corrected in the second term. In the same vein, he declared that from his inner heart, he had forgiven all those that had in one way or other wronged him and would want others whom he may have wronged to also forgive him. Governor Ohakim assured President Jonathan that Imo people would not let him down. In her speech, wife of Imo state governor, Barrister Chioma Ohakim said the victory of Chief Goodluck Jonathan in the presidential polls has shown how much Nigerians appreciate his efforts towards providing dividends of Democracy. She reassured the wife of the president that Imo state is a PDP state which she said was made manifest in the last National Assembly and Presidential elections. Barrister Ohakim stated that the town hall meeting she held with the women before the commencement of the 2011 general election served as an avenue for getting information on the needs of the women and providing solutions to the needs. The President, national council for women society, Hajia Ramatu Usman described governor Ohakims administration as gender friendly, as he chose a woman to be his running mate and put women as chairmen and vice chairmen in the local government administration. A member of the PDP Board of Trustees and the Publisher of Champion Newspapers, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, also assured the President that the people of the state would return the governor to complete his second term in office. Chief Iwuanyanwu stressed the need for politicians to adhere to zonal arrangement in the state which he said had been endorsed by the state council of elders. The governors running mate for tomorrows election, Professor Viola Onwuliri in her speech, assured the wife of the President of the support of women in the state and that the women would give the governor their total votes. |
Politics / 7 Guber Candidates Step Down For Ohakim by arinzeeze: 5:57pm On Apr 24, 2011 |
7 GUBER CANDIDATES STEP DOWN FOR OHAKIM Ahead of tomorrow's governorship and House of Assembly elections in Imo State, no fewer than seventeen registered political Parties have adopted the State governor, Chief Ikedi Ohakim. Also, no fewer than seven governorship candidates for the election had stepped down for the PDP candidate, Chief Ohakim. This development was made public weekend at Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri in a political rally to mark the grand finale of the state chapter of the women wing of PDP, by the state chairman of Conference of Nigerian Political Parties (CNPP). Announcing this before the crowd of PDP supporters in the rally addressed by President Jonathan and his wife, Patience, the CNPP Chairman, Dr Ada Mere paid glowing tribute to the state governor for his landmark achievements in the state, in spite of the barrage of attacks by the oppositions. Presenting a plague as a mark of solidarity of the 17 registered political parties to the governor, the CNPP urged their parties and the entire people of the state to adopt the governor for tomorrow's elections. Dr. Mere said the 17 registered political parties resolved to adopt the governor after realizing the fact that the governor remains the best so far and when compared with his challenges. CNPP therefore called on the people of the state to continue to give him their support for him to continue in his good works in the state. CNPP also called on the leadership of Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN and the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) to join CNPP to adopt the governor and to obey the state chatter of Equity, for the interest of peace and unity in the state. “We should respect this arrangement endorsed by our Council of elders on June 9, 1991, that governorship of the state should rotate among the three geo-political zones of the state, being Owerri, Okigwe and Orlu. |
Politics / United Nations Extols Ohakim by arinzeeze: 5:33pm On Apr 24, 2011 |
United Nations Extols Ohakim Imo State governor, Chief Ikedi Ohakim has bagged another honour, this time by the United Nations Association of Nigeria. The body said it honoured the governor because he has been able to distil the very essence for which the United Nations Organization (UNO) was set up soon after the Second World War and had brought to bear on his practice and approach to governance. In a release made available to STATESMAN in Owerri, signed by South East zonal chairman of the organization, Barr. Igwe Emmanuel Chinedu said the governor's achievements were amply demonstrated in the prompt eagerness with which the Ikedi Ohakim led-administration had paid counter-part funding for the developmental programmes of the United Nations Organization. "A part from consistently presenting the state budget and draft estimates punctually on schedule as required by the rules of the Millennium Development Goals Barr. Igwe who doubles as the state chairman of the organization, pointed out some of the governor's achievements to include "the near magical transformation of Owerri to a clean and filth free environment, free from the rubbish heaps that littered its streets four years ago. "The replacement in metropolitan Owerri of the accident prone motorcycle, with the much safer tricycle, in total defiance of the then conventional political convenience of pandering to the whims and caprices of the commercial motorcyclists union. "The singular effort the governor made to combat kidnapping when compared to the reality in Abia, Rivers and Anambra and other neighbouring states, thus ensuring relative peace and security with which no meaningful development programs can be executed." The body also mentioned the governor’s disbursement of substantial soft loans to youth and farmers for agricultural and human capital development, as well as opening up of hinterland through the integrated rural development agency, as some of the laudable programs of governance for which the organization decided to honour the governor." The organization urged all those involved in the governance at all levels of the nation to emulate the worthy efforts of this young and dynamic governor, for the overall development of the country and her people.' |

Politics / Rochas Okorocha, Jude Agbaso Now Is The Time To Speak Up, Imolites Are No Fools… by arinzeeze: 3:35pm On Apr 14, 2011 |
ROCHAS OKOROCHA, JUDE AGBASO NOW IS THE TIME TO SPEAK UP, IMOLITES ARE NO FOOLS… A few weeks back, as the governorship campiagn entered into another gear, issues about the aforementioned gubernatorial candidates began to unleash. The tendency, as noted, is for the issues to be swept under the carpet dismissed as political persecution but not this one. While the accused fails to pointedly address the issues raised, they lashed out at the person levelling the allegations, calling the whistle blower several printable and unprintable names. One of the situation is rearing its head in Imo State again. The governership candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Owelle Rochas Anayo Okorocha and his running mate Jude Agbaso have been accused of forgery. Yet instead of offering some explanations as regards to the allegation, they have launched attack on their accusers, leaving the substance unattended to. I qoute"Truth: the most deadly weapon ever discovered by humanity. Capable of destroying entire perceptual sets, cultures and realities. out lawed by all governments everywhere. possession is normarlly punishable by death.—John Gilmore. Tough luck for the people of Imo state, they say. While Okorocha several times presidential candidate, was alleged to have been expelled from University of Jos (UNIJOS) for certificate forgery, with the letter of expulsion attached. His running mate is said to be wanted in the United States of America for forgery by the state of New York. Among other issues, Okorocha Rochas was alleged to have been disqualified from standing for election in 1999 by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for certificate forgery. His enemies have also sworn by the grave of their forefathers that Okorocha Rochas was sacked by the Federal Government as the chairman of the Board of Nigeria Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) over a contract scam. In the case of Okorocha’s running mate, as first exclusive reported by The Westerner a sister publication of compass, in its April 11, 2011 edition, Agbaso whose elder brother, Martins Agbaso was the Governorship candidate of APGA in 2007, is wanted for forgery and jumping bail on December 30, 1994, in United States. Jude Agbaso, a then resident of the US was arrested in that country on a 17-count charge of criminal possession of a forged instrument by the Nassau Country of Police Department in New York. Agbaso was initially granted bail, but fail to abide by the bail terms when he jumped bail and jumped to Nigeria. Consequently the judge issued a bench warrant with no bail for his re-arrest and incarceration on December 30, 1994. Let me quote The Westerner further: “Further investigation revealed that prosecution against Agbaso was handled by Nassau Country New York District Attorney Office, with the “Best contact as Angel Carter of the Felony Screening Section” of the district office with phone number: 009.1.516.571.3800. The prosecution was said to be exploring means of extraditing Agbaso to the US to face trials. The US Marshal service confirm that the charge of fraud-related activities against the APGA gubernatorial running mate running mate whose social security number is (SSN): 108-76-179, with a likely former address of 112, Front Street, Freeport NY, 11520-6146, that a charge still subsists in the United States. Other U.S. agencies, including the Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE), also confirmed details on Agbaso, who was said to have given different dates of birth in documents. However, the agencies investigation revealed that Agbaso’s actual date of birth is January 23, 1958 and not January 1, 1958 or January 9, 1958 as he had purportedly claimed” It was thus very shocking when Agbaso’s party, instead of keeping quiet made worse his case in court of reasonable people. In a statement issued by the Director of Media and Publicity of the APGA campaign organization, Mrs Chioma Ogoke, the party said that the allegation was in line with the political antics of the ruling party in the state, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). However this was not certain. Furthermore, the arrest of Prince Eze Madumere and 18 other APGA members on trumped up charges. My take: instead of trying to take imolites for a ride, will it be better for these politicians to keep quiet when such weight allegations are made against them? The success in making further mockery of themselves when they fail to address issues but launch tirades against their opponents leaving the substance out. This is what Okorocha Rochas and Jude Agbaso, especially the latter have done with their defenders that stand logic on its head. Famous artists, Mogules in all spheres of life and great world politicans, have been laid one alligation or the other and they have come out to the media to clear their names and bring out thier faces from the dunk in other to show theirselves worthwhile to their fans or followers. It is logical as for the aforemention men to come out and prove to the people of imo that the allegations place on them is either true or false. like Thoreau said “Rather than love, than money, than fame, give me truth”. We Imolites need to hear the truth. I will conclude by saying: “Do not fear to repeat what has already been said. Men need the truth dinned into their ears many times and from all sides. The rumour makes them prick up their ears, the second registers and the third enters.—Rene Theophile Hyacinthe Lainnec Arinze Ezeala Arinze.ezeala@yahoo.com

Politics / Black Friday In Imo Tony Uzoukwu Dies In Auto Crash Assassins Kill 7 Nwangele Lg by arinzeeze: 2:53pm On Apr 12, 2011 |
Black Friday in Imo Tony Uzoukwu Dies in Auto Crash Assassins Kill 7 Nwangele LGA Councillors The people of Nwangele Local Government Council in Imo state will never forget Friday 8th April 2011, a day to the National Assembly elections in Nigeria. It was a day men of the under-world assassinated seven councilors serving in Nwangele LGA. Nigerian Horn gathered that the unknown gunmen stormed the venue of the councilors meeting place last Friday in Nwangele LGA and assassinated seven out of the councilors. In another development, a trailer carrying about 600 bags of cement on the wee hours of Saturday smashed the 306 Peugeot car of Hon Tony Uzoukwu killing him on the spot. Eye witness told our reporter that the incident happened at about 12:00 to 12:30am on Saturday, when Uzoukwu the former commissioner for youths and sports in Imo state was coming back from a political meeting at All Seasons Hotel and was smashed by a trailer coming from Port-Harcourt road. The over loaded trailer with registration number Imo XB 120 UNC collided with the Peugeot in front of Benuak filling station, close to Umaru Musa Yar’Adua drive. Information reaching Nigerian Horn is that when the accident occurred, people around had to break the doors of the car to pull out the dead body of Uzoukwu. The police patrol team from New Owerri Police station took his body to many hospitals in Owerri, including Federal Medical Centre, FMC but his body was rejected and they took him to Christiana Specialist Hospital Egbu where he was received. Nigerian Horn equally gathered that when the accident occurred, the driver of the Mack truck escaped and later reported himself to New Owerri police station. When our reporter tried to speak with the officer in charge of the patrol team that took the body of Uzoukwu to hospital, he declined statement and referred him to the D.P.O. All efforts made to see the DPO or the District Traffic Officer (DTO) proved abortive as at the time of filling the report. Meanwhile the Imo state governor, Chief Ikedi Ohakim, regrets to announce the untimely death of a former Commissioner in his Administration, Chief Tony Uzoukwu, in a ghastly motor accident in the earlier hours of Saturday. April 9 2011 along Port Harcourt Road, Owerri. The governor commiserates with the family of the late Chief Uzoukwu while praying Almighty God to give the family the fortitude to bear the loss. His Excellency described the late Uzoukwu as a forthright person who died in the course of contributing to the development of the state and the wellbeing of its people. His Excellency, Chief Ikedi Ohakim, also commiserates with the families of the seven councilors killed by assassins in the Nwangele Local Government Area of Imo state on Friday April 8, 2011 while they were holding a meeting in preparation for the National Assembly Elections held last Saturday. His Excellency deeply regrets the incident but admonishes the good people of Imo state to find solace in the fact that the late politicians died in the course of working for democracy. http://nigerianhornnewspaper.com.ng/?p=236 |

Politics / Agbaso Zooms To United States Of America (usa) by arinzeeze: 2:23pm On Apr 12, 2011 |
AGBASO ZOOMS TO UNITED STATES OF AMERICA (USA) All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) deputy governorship candidates in Imo state for the April 26, 2011 election, Chief Jude Agbaso has quickly headed to United States of America, presumably to address an alleged crime of jumping bail in the aftermath of a crime committed in New York, in the United States of America. Nigeria Horn gathered that Chief Agbaso knowing the implication of the alleged crime towards his “marriage” with Owelle Rochas Okorocha and quest of becoming the next governor of Imo state, abandoned all he has to do in the country and left for America to see what he can do to salvage the situation before things gets out of hand for the party in the state. According to our sources, the deputy governorship candidate as well as the governorship candidate, Owelle Rochas Okoroacha and other party chieftains in the state were having sleepless nights since the news of alleged crime of jumping bail in the New York by the APGA deputy governorship candidate in the state broke out. It was reliably gathered that the party chieftains in the state had last week met over the matter and resolved that Chief Agbaso, in the interest of the party in the state should head to New York to seek for a remedy to the problem the party in the state is currently facing. It will be recalled that the APGA deputy governorship candidate in Imo state was last week reported to have allegedly jumped bail in New York for an alleged crime he committed in 1994 before he finally returned to Nigeria.

FG LAUDS OHAKIM OVER 10,000 JOBS Federal Government has recommended Imo State Government, Chief Ikedi Ohakim for his benevolence, thoughtfulness and patriotic approach towards unemployment, by engaging 10,000 unemployed graduates with the state public service under the 10,000 scheme of the state. The Minister of Labour and Productivity, Barr. Emeka Wogu in his address at a two day Multi-Cadre induction workshop for these new employees in the state public service, at the Aladimma Mall, Owerri, said that the gesture would contribute in transforming and building capacity within the public service of the state. The minister who was represented by the co-ordinator of National Directors of Employment (NDE), Abia State, Lady Edna Ngozi Ofordile stated that the 10,000 jobs marked the actualization of the present administration’s determination to address the problem of unemployment. Barr. Wogu said that the 10,000 jobs was in line with the vision 2020 of job creation for sustainable livelihood. She described it as a beginning of a new lease of life, consequent upon the fact that the new person were leaving the unemployed market thereby giving them the opportunity to contribute to the development of the state. In his speech earlier, the state government, Chief Ikedi Ohakim Urge the beneficiaries of the 10,000 jobs to reciprocate by ensuring excellence in their job performance, good attitude to work, prompt service delivery, accountability and transparency to ensure higher productivity. The Governor who was represented by his Special Adviser for Manpower Development, Lady Agatha Ndugbu stressed the need of the new staff to learn the rule and regulation of civil service to enable them to perform effectively in their professions. In his address, the state head of service, Mr Evans Uzokwe said that the timing of the workshop was apt and in line of the new face Philosophy of the state to continually keep public servants abreast with the necessary techniques and tools for proper conduct of Government business. “No newly recruited officer in any organisation can perform effectively without receiving the necessary orientation to guide them in the discharge if their official responsibilities” Chief Uzokwe said that in an effort to build re-focus and restore the confidence in the public service, the state Government has committed huge resource into capacity of the workforce. According to him the public servants of various grade levels had benefited immensely from several training courses, seminars, workshops and in service training programmes. He describe capacity-building as an essential element in the various reforms in public service. He stressed that civil service cannot be sustained if manpower development is negotiated and any and any organisation that is not continually injected with new ideas, skill, science and technology loses touch with the dynamism of modern times 1 Like
