Education / Re: The Illusion Of Black Magic: A Call To Embrace Reason And Progress by atango(m): 10:32pm On Jun 29
MimiSheWrote:
As I scrolled through Instagram, I came across a skit that left me both amused and concerned. A man magically transformed into a chicken to sneak into someone's food storage, and I couldn't help but think, "Yeah this is definitely Nigeria, where naturally smart people still believe in witchcraft and black magic." It's astonishing that in the 21st century, such beliefs persist, hindering our progress and potential.

Let's consider the implications of black magic being real. If it truly worked, wouldn't Africa have the strongest military in the world? Imagine the advantages: invisibility, mind control, bullet resistance, shapeshifting, teleportation, and unparalleled intelligence capabilities. We would be unstoppable, and the world would marvel at our greatness. Yet, we remain reliant on other countries for technological advancements and medical breakthroughs.

If you ask me... That's the real black magic right there.

It's time to acknowledge that "juju" doesn't really work. We're mentally stuck in the past, while the rest of the world has moved forward, embracing science and technology. They once believed in black magic too (more than we do right now) but they advanced and left those beliefs behind for a reason. We must do the same.

I urge you to think critically about the world around us. Let's focus on what truly works and strive for a better Africa, where science, technology, and reason prevail. This is not a call to dismiss our rich cultural heritage but to separate superstition from reality.

Let us catch up with the rest of the world and create a brighter future for ourselves and generations to come. I long to see a better Africa before I die, and I hope you share this vision.

I personally believe that Belief in a higher power is a natural aspect of human evolution. As our species became more intelligent, we began to ponder the mysteries of the universe. Our brains, seeking to alleviate the discomfort of uncertainty, created a coping mechanism - the concept of "magic".

This invention of our brains allowed us to make sense of the unknown, providing a sense of comfort and control over the uncontrollable. In essence, belief in magic and higher powers is a natural byproduct of our cognitive development, a testament to our brain's remarkable ability to adapt and find solace in the face of the unknown."

So call me ignorant all you want, but I need you to think for a minute. (Let your common sense do it's job)

This article is intended for educational purposes only, encouraging us to think critically and strive for progress. Let us embrace the true "black magic" of science and technology and create a brighter future for ourselves and generations to come, Thank you.

Education / Re: Nigerians React As NYSC Urges Corpers Travelling High-risk Roads Such As…. To I by atango(m): 4:18pm On Jan 16
Unbelievable!! This is normalising kidnap for ransom and telling us ordinary Nigerians that we are on our own - the state cannot offer us protection from kidnappers.

dailybuzzng:
Nigerians React As NYSC Urges Corpers Travelling High-Risk Roads Such As…. To Inform Loved Ones In Hand To Pay Off Ransom If Kidnapped By Bandits

In the wake of the distressing reports surrounding the kidnapping and tragic fate of one of the six sisters, allegedly killed by bandits due to the failure to meet a 60 million ransom demand, attention has turned to a notable instruction within the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) guidelines.

Nigerians are currently responding to a specific directive found in the NYSC literature, which reads as follows:

“When traveling on high-risk roads such as Abuja-Kaduna, Abuja-Lokoja-Okene, or Aba-Port Harcourt routes, it is advisable to alert your family members, friends, and colleagues. This precautionary measure ensures that there is someone informed and ready to facilitate the payment of any ransom that may be demanded.”

The revelation has sparked a wave of concern and discussions among Nigerians, who are grappling with the stark reality of insecurity on certain travel routes. The recent tragedy involving the kidnapped sisters serves as a poignant reminder of the risks faced by individuals, including members of the National Youth Service Corps, when navigating through regions with elevated security concerns. See some of the reactions below:

Introvert: “I chop query letter for posting this on my WhatsApp ah that time Mr olakamara na God go punish your papa.”

Ibk You: “E be like this NYSC I go skip am.”

David: “I was posted to Nysc kaduna camp that is situated in the notorious Abuja – Kaduna expressway. The bus I took from lagos refused to stop in that location because the driver and most passengers were scared of being kidnapped. I couldn’t even blame them. There was no light on the road, no security provided by Nysc or government. If anything had happened then, the government won’t even care.”

Eze: “That’s why they have never closed down a camp that has been a hub for kidnapping, if you’re kidnapped it’s your family business, serving the country must continue.”

Spot on! The story get too many holes. He relocated to the US and was an undocumented migrant all the while. Meanwhile nothing is said about the woman's immigration status.

SWATMan:
RIP to the dead. In as much your story looks one sided and said nothing good about the woman makes the story unbelieveable. Where was he getting the money as a soldier to send accross to his wife and children abroad. Was he from a rich family? There is no morals in this story. It's his responsibility to fend for them. The only thing i see here is a miscalculation of his plan for the future. It's called fate or Adonwo.

Politics / Re: Breaking News: Tinubu To Be Disqualified. Re-run Between Obi And Atiku by atango(m): 7:00pm On Jul 25, 2023
Deprofessional:
News filtering in the air today has it that the APC presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu will be disqualified owing to the barrage of cases against him.

The supporters of Tinubu's disqualification hinged it on 2 undisputed facts of:

a. having forfeiture of USD460k by the APC presidential candidate which goes against the constitution of Nigeria,
b. being a citizen of another country, and
c. wrong nomination of a running mate.

A powerful former president is working tirelessly to see that Tinubu is disqualified and declared not fit to run for president ab inition

Details later.......
Some people find it really hard to grasp certain realities. OP, it's over! Tinubu is president and will be the duration of his term and is even very likely to grab a second term. Nothing can change that now. No court in the land will stop that from happening.

Na entitlement mentality you get! Your dad's obligation to care (house, clothe and feed) for you ended when you turned 18. If you are not in full-time education, you shouldn't expect your dad to still support you.

sqlPAIN:
My wife just gave birth to my second child of recent and has been in the hospital for almost a week. Yesterday I went to the hospital to bring her and the new born to the house after a long stay at the hospital but to my greatest surprise, my father refused to allow us into the house. He had even already brought out our belongings. Me and my dad have not been in good terms since I got married to my wife in 3 years ago(even before then). He has been on my neck for years now, constantly and violently reminding me of how I should have left his house year ago and go live on my own, constantly throwing insult at me, telling me how I'm a disgrace to him and men in general, saying he regrets birthing me. I'm constantly letting him know that I'm not yet ready financially to stand on my own but he wouldn't listen. We've had countless fight turned physical because of this issue. Yesterday was the tip of the iceberg for me because I'm planning on arresting him... He brought out our belongings and my first child, saying we would not sleep in the house. We were all outside from morning till evening, I had to go beg a neighbour to helpe accommodate my wife and new born for the mean time. I'm currently typing this from a friend's place. I'm planning on arresting him because how can someone be so wicked and heartless to your own son.

Brutally explicit! Said it as you see it, no sugar coating.
immortalcrown:
Una no dey talk true when una need advice. Una too dey pretend. See as you pretentiously claim you love him. Nonsense.

He treats you as you say in this post, yet you say you love him.

It is a lie. You don't love him. Love is not what is keeping you in the relationship. There are three things that make women like you claim you love a man who maltreats you.

One, either you are desperate for marriage because of your age or peer pressure.

Two, maybe he is good in bed for you.

Three, maybe he significantly assists in providing your material needs.

How can a woman love the man that compares her to his previous wife, doesn't appreciate her and dislikes her cooking? He is even mean to an extent of saying you don't know how to eat. He does these things when you are yet to marry him. I wonder how he will behave when you officially become his property. grin

Anyways, keep on loving him. Aww! Love in Tokyo. I know the two things he wants from you. But I won't mention them, since you are not sincere to mention what is keeping you in the relationship. The love you mention is not for the man but for one of the three factors I mentioned above.

..."slaves in 2022" because an oyibo man refuses to recognise a fellow Blackman's presence? What has that got anything to do with slavery?

I think the problem with OP and others like him is that he craves for acceptance, recognition from oyibo people. They are those who feel that blacks are less of humans if not accepted or treated with love by oyibo. Folks you don't need to be accepted by anyone to go about your life with dignity. Learn to ignore oyibo people just like they will do to you and stop mourning every time you beg for attention from them and don't get it. It sucks!

When shall we learn to be rational and not let emotions drive our decisions in crucial moments like these? We have all seen through the election of Buhari the consequences of electing an old senile person to lead our country. Do we still want to go down that route, do we think Tinubu will be any different from Buhari simply because he is Yoruba? Guys reason with your heads and not with your bums.

I hope no one will fall for this amateurish attempt to divert attention from government failureand inability to deal with the securitychallenges that this nation is facing. The problem that this country faces is internal, they shouldn't drag us into an unnecessary international quarrel.

descartes400:

how do you mean defending themselves?

Do you know how many times fellow student has sneaked into each other opposite sex dormitory based on invitation from love interest?
prolly the other girls were jealous..and decided to let the cat out of the bag going by their action!

If it was a female student that sneaked into a male dormitory, would the male student had mobbed the female student to death? besides, we all know no female or male will sneaked into opposite sex dormitory without "invitation"

prolly, someone who was jealous let the cat off the bag or was a setup.

Females have always perceived males as a threat and we can't really blame them cos many have suffered in the hands of predatory men. The girls involved in this sad incident definitely felt threatened and thought they will become rape victims if they did not fight back. When a person feels threatened and trapped with no way to flee, they fight back ferociously. I believe this is what happened. The time of the incident (4am) and the size of the perceived threat (5 boys) was definitely seen by each of the girls as a very big threat. Looking at their numbers compared to the invading boys, one may be tempted to say they poorly assessed the threat and so responded with unreasonable force. But in fearful or life threatening situations, emotions take control and humans tend to react irrationally.

Car Talk / Re: Man Cries Out As Cow Destroys His New Car While The Fulani Herdsmen Look On. by atango(m): 8:59pm On Jul 25, 2021
Most of the responses to my message are driven by sheer hatred of cattle herders and not rationality. There's no law that forbids animals from using a motorway in this country so long as they kept under control.

The level of damage done to the car shows that the driver did not slow down while driving past the herd and the sound of his engine definitely scared the cow and it ran into his path. He is to blame for the accident. He should have known better if he is a qualified driver.
SouthSouth1914:

Are you a sane person? Cows are not suppose to roam about in the first instance! Are there sane people in this country that don’t think or act like cows?

Nigeria is a disgrace!
Car Talk / Re: Man Cries Out As Cow Destroys His New Car While The Fulani Herdsmen Look On. by atango(m): 4:16pm On Jul 20, 2021
You can only see this in Naija.
He rammed into a cow and should blame himself for reckless driving instead of shamelesslystanding there to blame an irrational beast. A cow is an animal that does not understand the dangers posed by a mechanically propelled vehicle and so cannot be blamed for an accident. The driver of any vehicle that hits an animal moving along the road is responsible for any damage resulting from such an accident. But since this is Nigeria, anything is possible. Cows can be blamed for all sorts of things including causing an accident.

To optimise the use of these beautiful structures, the state should invest in the education of users. I can see a keke riding in 2 lanes even though the road markings are very clear. Some road users seem to see the road markings as decorations. Another thing to educate the population about is how to look after these structures because if not properly cared for they will be in a sorry state in a very short time.

Crime / Nigerian Men Arrested Over German PPE 'scam' by atango(m): 9:19pm On Sep 07, 2020
Two Nigerian men have been arrested for allegedly scamming a German state that tried to buy 2.3m euros (£2m) of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Nigerian police say they cloned the website of a Dutch company to obtain an order from the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

When the PPE didn't show up, a state government representative visited the company's offices in the Netherlands.

The company then informed him that they had never done business with him.

The representative notified the Dutch police and investigations led to Nigeria where the two suspects were arrested in the capital, Abuja. They are due to appear in court soon.

Why journalists in Nigeria feel under attack
The suspects, Babatunde Adesanya and Akinpelu Hassan Abass, were members of a "sophisticated transnational criminal network", Nigerian police said in a statement.

The pair allegedly cloned the corporate website of ILBN Holdings BV in order to carry out the scam on Freiherr Fredrick Von Hahn, who represented North Rhine-Westphalia. The PPE was needed for the battle against coronavirus.

Two more arrests have also been made in the Netherlands.

According to Nigerian police, Mr Von Hahn was "disturbed" when the PPE did not arrive, only to find out that "the company never did business with him and that the transaction was a scam.
