Politics / Re: Ikpeazu Presents Made-In-Aba Shoes To Enelamah (Pics) by awenaibangbee: 9:51pm On Dec 29, 2015
The truth is this, I have bought a number of these Aba-made without regrets. They offer fantastic value and I will continue to buy them, not just because I want to support the local industry, but because they actually are good.

While we may pursue the international market, these manufacturers should know that with a population of over 170 million in Nigeria and over 300 million in the ECOWAS sub region, they are yet to come close to their market potential. I would gladly invest my money in such ventures, no joke.
asorocker:
My suggestion is to take these shoe samples to the developed countries like Britain, United States, Canada, Germany etc, they will carry out a quality of products test on these shoes and once these shoes pass the test an export corridor like the AGOA would be opened between Aba and the United States, Britain, Canada and Germany.

Aba would now compete with China for American shoes market.

Quality assurance should be taken very seriously,
Training and capacity building for the skilled workers, provision of capital at very little interest rates for purchase of equipment and machines.
The construction of industrial clusters where these things can be made and packaged very well for export.

The access to the sea via aba sea port or akwa ibom sea port for easy export of products and import of raw materials.

If Aba gets 10% of the shoe industry of the developed world that would be making more than 100 million shoes coupled with the ones they make for local consumption it would become a real shoe cluster.

Shoes will become to aba what watches became to Switzerland

God bless ikpeazu

Politics / Re: El Rufai Appoints Bringbackourgirls Founder As Chief Of Staff by awenaibangbee: 8:40pm On Jun 29, 2015
I will never understand people and thier issues. She worked as a member of several APC committees, she worked with the governor when he headed the BPE, she went to become a UNDP-paid assistant for four years to Mallam el Rufai when he was the FCT Minister, she is well educated and comes from a prominent Kaduna family, she seems well suited for the role.

Meanwhile, if people say the abduction of Chibok girls is a scam, what about the murder of students in Buni Yadi, the bombing of the bus park at Nyanya and several other attacks by insurgents? Aren't we glad that someone is championing the fight for thousands of people affected by these acts of terrorism, or is the whole BH thing a scam to undermine the PDP too? Una sef.

This is a man who should inspire younger people. He's been married to the same woman for over three decades, and from what I see, it's been a wonderful marriage.
I am yet to hear of any scandal, no one has accused him of stealing money, impregnating some girl somewhere, he has faced his craft, championed causes that support the masses.
Whatever you think of this man, I have some respect for him.

So in your mind, we have been moving forward?

We have 10.5 million children out of school and we are moving forward?

The US is jealous of our millions of unemployed and unemployable youths?

The world's 6th largest oil producer imports 80% of its petroleum products and the US is jealous?

90% of Nigerians lack access to water or quality health care, and we are moving forward.

In 2015, FG has informed us that we will spend 70% of our income on salaries, allowances and other recurrent expenditure and only 30% will go to roads, health care, and other capital projects. Make we dey analyse this thing with common sense o.

I intend to order a 2012 Toyota Camry SE and 2011 Ford Explorer SUV.

Will there be a new customs tariff by 1st January 2015? What will it cost me to clear them through the Lagos ports, what shipping companies are best to use?

Or is it cheaper to ship them through Cotonou? Please advise.

Firstly, I do not know how we managed to drag GMB into this post. But then, these military academies award qualifications that are the equivalent of what many higher institutuons offer, even our own NDA offers MSCs, so we can not not call it's graduates illiterates.

The Military Academy at Aldershot boasts of many political and military heavyweights as alumni, including members of European aristocracy.

Secondly, and back to the point, GEJ taught in a Nigerian University for years. He taught in PH. Am sure there is internet service in Rivers State, as big and popular as NL is, there must be a student, course mate or co-lecturer on this forum who can post a message.

slap1: They give the fans what they want to listen to in order to remain relevant.
People hardly listen to musicians like Asa, T.Y Bello, Djinee, Paul Play, Sunny Nneji, etc.

I bet Dido, Enya, Adele, Lady Antebellum, Coldplay, One Direction, One Republic, Owl City, Maroon 5, e.t.c, would die of hunger if they were singing in Nigeria.
could I disagree here. The US market that brings us Lil Wayne and Minaj also brought us Dido Armstrong and Guru. Music can make money and still make meaning. Our market is maturing, but we must realise that all genres will exist 8 the same space.

I guess the post refers to the cost involved in this project versus the problem it strives to solve. As small as Lagos is, it may still have room to grow. With its ever-growing population, a fraction of the cost of this project could open up areas in Epe, Ikorodu, Alimosho etc, and that could solve our space crisis to a large extent. However, u did say it was privately funded so the financiers have a right to spend their money wherever they like. The single largest benefit to reclaiming the sea is that indigenous people will not lay claims to this land in the future.
quote author=paddy_lo]

I dont know why but i like taking on ignorant folks like u on Nairaland. . .

For your info. . this is not a Nigerian Govt project. . .

Its not even a lagos state project, although the state does support it

Its a privately funded project. . get it. . .

Plus the state is going to be up to 25million in 2025

New districts have to open up

Its funny a lot of u cry about decentralizing governance in Nigeria
now that it is being done u also complain. . .

If other state Governors cannot provide a conducive environment to attract private capital
pls blame it on them

stop coming here to spew your ignorance. . .
and its not by force to buy the land. . u can stay wherever the hell u are and spend your money there

If lagos didnt plan for future population growth u will complain
now that they are doing it. . u are still complaining

or dont u know the UN has designated lagos as a mega-city?

and the city is running out of space?. . .

Car Talk / Re: Pros And Cons Of Honda Accord 2007 by awenaibangbee: 7:59pm On Jan 04, 2014
Actually, there is a V6 Camry with a 268bhp engine. The 2.4 litre 4 cylinder is rated at 188 bhp
optimus-prime1:

It depends on what you are looking for as a driver, as per style et al...
Personally because of how I drive(I love Acceleration/power in a car), I prefer the Honda EX-L "07 to the 06/07 Camry due to sheer Engine power*that initial takeoff*
1- the Honda Accord Unleashes 268horsepower of its V6 while the V6 edition of the 06/07 Camry pops out just 158horsepower(probably because the Camry's engine was designed for fuel efficiency)
2- The Honda EX-L has a bigger engine 3.5 liter, compared to any of Camry's 2.0, 2.2 or 2.4 liter engine editions.

Apart from the engine/power where the Honda EX-L clearly outmatches the Camry, the interior of the Honda is cooler than the Camry- it boasts of a more intersting Dashboard, theres that pilot feel, like you are in the Cockpit of a plane, complicated looking lights and buttons. The Camry's dashboard is rather boring generally, especially at night; that mono flourescent green backlight is sooo dull.

But where the Camry has an edge over the Honda is its fuel Efficiency(for those who use the AC and constantly look at the fuel guage) all I can say is the Camry is about one of the best fuel efficient cars I know.
Secondly a 06/07 Camry is cheaper than the Honda EX-L 07 (Camry's are cheaper than Accords basically).
Thirdly, auto parts for a Toyota Camry in Nigeria are cheap, and available- Honda parts are relatively available, but not that cheap(compare the prices of some parts in both cars and you'l understand what I mean).
Not to forget, it seems regular Nigerian Mechanics prefer fixing Camry's to Honda Accord's esp the EX-L's, because they say the Camry's Engine is more straight forward. So if you have a Camry, you are less likely to have beefs with regular mechanics. A Honda EX-L requires a pretty advanced mechanic, or else.
On Character defects;weeell, to me the 06/07 Camry has little issues with the braking system no matter what you do, I dunno why, I drive fast so I know what it means when you need urgent brakes.
The EX-L like all Accords should have its front shaft/Tire rod ends checked regularly to prevent what I'd term "The Honda Surprise" and secondly proper driving habits make your transmission system in a Honda Accord live long.
Generally both cars are awesome machines, but like I said it depends on what you are looking for in a car.

lil max: So its now a pastors duty to take care of members of d church....abi
actually, yes. He should provide morally and spiritually to enable his flock provide for themselves materially. And where they can't, he takes charge in providing what he can. Let us not get religion wrong. Bear in mind that missionaries who brought Christianity also came with education and health care. These missionary health centre and schools provided for generations of Nigerians good health care and education for free. It is that kind of selflessness that is the bedrock of all religions. But the idea of a religious leadership basking in excess when the flock is in want...I no fit shout.

TV/Movies / Re: Nollywood At 20; What Advice Do You Have For Nollywood Film makers? by awenaibangbee: 11:28pm On Dec 04, 2013
Chestar5: they should stop making sound track dat makes us know what will happen in the movie..
as if the movies weren't predictable enough, one clown will sing one jaga jaga song in the background telling the entire story.
In my opinion, we have a long way to go, not because we lack the talent, but our people have chosen the easy route to quick fame and money. Get a good writer to write a good script, which is the bedrock. There are so many situations in our society to adapt from. It is not mandatory that ur movie must have a 'known face' to sell. I see a lot of young directors posting stuff on YouTube featuring fresh talent.
Get an imaginative director with an eye for detail to put the story together. A good director will make a bad actor seem good, but even Marlon Brando can't help a bad director.
and most of all, get ur continuity right. Am tired of seeing a flash back scene where the characters still had the same lace wig. I even saw a flashback from the eighties where the actor drove a car with the new number plate, haha. Spend money on ur consultants. A good movie will stand the test of time, ask anyone who saw Mosebolatan or any of Ogunde's works.

Crime / Re: Nigerians Accused Of Kidnap Killed In Guinea-Bissau by awenaibangbee: 8:25pm On Oct 10, 2013
We never seem to consider the consequences of our actions as a people. In the early 2000's, our people took money rituals global. It was even portrayed in our movies, that had become common in most West African countries. By the time Ghanians started noticing all sorts of fetish materials on their streets, they concluded Nigerians were to blame, especially since this coincided with the large-scale migration of our boys to the West Coast. Now that we have taken kidnapping global, we remain the prime suspect when this behavior is exhibited where Nigerians abound. Remember how we ruined our reputation in Europe? Most online retailers won't recognize a transaction from Nigeria, and even the Brits who welcomed us in the 50's now ask for 3000pounds to guarantee we will not abscond when we visit.
We as a people need to condemn openly the bad behavior of our fellow Nigerian, e no good, simple!
