Business / Re: CBN Reintroduces N65 Charges On Cash Withdrawals On ‘other Banks’ Atms by ayoola01(m): 10:43pm On Aug 17, 2014
So do you expect them to exclude charges for Interbank transfer.. Who bears the charges paid on platform with which the transaction is consumated, and remember that customer bears the charge either on Internet Banking Platform or You effect the transfer in the banking hall. Also, are you aware that the transfer is instant, and available 24/7.... How convenient could that be? And compare the charges to the maximum amount you can transfer at your convenience, Bros Life has been made so easy..... Let us embrace ADVANCEMENT in our banking system............... Will you compare the cost to the Stress, time spent, Transport Fare paid to go to your beneficiary bank................

TEXZLEM:

Meanwhile the Internet banking you talk about involves charges if it is inter bank transaction. if you like transfer 1kobo...GTB will charged you N105 and VAT 5.25 just because you used internet banking

My brother...these people are just thieves.
Sports / Re: Lindsay Lindley Becomes Weyinme-gets Naija Passport From Uncle Who 'married In'! by ayoola01(m): 10:17pm On Aug 16, 2014
Why don't we learn to see something good about this our Dear country? Have you forgotten Athletes who represented Nigeria and later dumped Nigeria for other countries; Francis Obikwelu-Portugal, Daniel Igali-Canada; Olusoji Fasuba-England, Gloria Alozie-(African 100m Hurdles record holder)-Spain and many more,,,,,,, Now we have someone who has not competed for USA and was convinced to represent Nigeria, all we can do it to rubbish Nigerian Immigration..... Sportsmen and women are ambassadors and and countries around the world is willing to grant them citizenship provided they will bring glory to their country........

bambostic:
http://makingofchampions.net/2014/08/15/american-lindsay-lindley-becomes-lindsay-weyinme-after-getting-nigerian-passport-through-uncle-who-married-in/

Hey, would you like a passport in 24 hours to compete for Nigeria? Apparently we’re giving them out to anyone who’ll accept the offer…

The African Championships rounded up on Thursday night, and the big surprise for Nigeria fans during the week-long competition was the sudden appearance of new girl Lindsay Weyinme in Green-White-Green of Team Naija. We caught up with her after the 100m Hurdles final where she finished 4th, and this is what she had to say about how she was recruited to Team Nigeria (captured on camera by AthleticsAfrica):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHIJ1rWqxJQ

Following the National Trials in Calabar, where we extensively covered the appearance of the newly recruited Americans to Team Nigeria, we asked the most pertinent question that arose – whether they should even have received Green Passport in the first place, given that Nigeria citizenship law clearly states that one must have at least ONE Nigerian parent to naturalise, if you were not born in Nigeria. Never in the history of Nigeria has any foreigner EVER received the passport because their great-grandparent or great-great grandparent was Nigerian, as some of them have claimed is their link to Nigeria.

All of this makes Weyinme’s claim as to how she got the Nigerian Passport even more startling. Is there any country in the whole world where you can become a citizen because your UNCLE MARRIED someone from that country? Not you, but your uncle? It’s such brazen disregard for Nigerian Law that one can only assume this young lady and her ‘Naijamerican’ colleagues have been rather misinformed and ill-advised in this whole situation.

Let’s not even get into the fact that she did not even attend the Nigerian Trials so her selection on the team is a big surprise, to say the least. This is the same situation with Robert Simmons, who also did not attend the trials, and has done little to justify his inclusion on the team, after not finishing his 400m race at the Commonwealth Games, and false starting earlier this week at these African Championships. The integrity of our whole selection process is at stake here.

It did not take long for more news on Wenyime’s background to emerge in online fan forums in Nigeria. It turns out that her real name is Lindsay Lindley, and it is likely that she was given the name Weyinme during the process of naturalising. Interestingly, the other Americans recruited to Team Nigeria have been given Delta middle names, such as Mark ‘Amuju’ Jelks, Monzavous ‘Jolomi’ Edwards, Tyron ‘Toritseju’ Akins, and so on.

They are all set to represent Delta State at the upcoming National Sports Festival, which just happens to be the first National Sports Festival that is open to foreign-based Nigerians, a classification which they now fall under. Which begs the question – is their recruitment really about making Team Nigeria better, or is it about Delta State winning the National Sports Festival? What becomes of them after the Festival? Only time will tell.

One thing is certain – it is very IMPORTANT that Nigerians do NOT direct any ill-feelings towards these athletes, who are merely embracing an opportunity that has been accorded them to advance their careers as Nigerians. What’s done is done, so they should be supported for whatever time they have left as Team Nigeria athletes (the majority of them are over 30), BUT as a people we need to make sure that we protect the integrity of the Nigerian passport, and what it means to represent this great nation – our immigration services has clearly dropped the ball here.

What’s next if we don’t close the loop on this? Someone will say their friend’s sister’s aunty-in-law is Nigerian and that’s how they got the passport? Essentially, almost anybody in the world can get a Nigerian passport in 24 hours to compete for us. You would think that this MIGHT be acceptable if we were talking about world-class, exceptional talents, but so far they have not improved Team Nigeria – at the Commonwealth Games only one of the recruits got a RELAY medal, while at these African Championships only one of them got a GOLD, which we still would have won anyway if they were not there, as we swept all the medals in that event. We even lost our Continental Crown to South Africa, winning only 8 gold medals this time around, as opposed to 10 in Porto Novo 2 years ago!

When all is said and done, this is not even about the recruits, and we want to re-iterate that we harbour no ill-feelings towards them, and we will celebrate whatever medals they can win for Team Nigeria at any level. What this is really about is how we see ourselves as a nation and a people. We need now to look deeply within, at our system, to make sure that born and bred Nigerians get the SAME opportunities, SAME privileges, and SAME funding as the American Recruits, because if that were to happen, Nigeria WILL surpass Jamaica & USA as the dominant force in World Athletics. It would only be a matter of time. Watch this space.
Business / Re: CBN Reintroduces N65 Charges On Cash Withdrawals On ‘other Banks’ Atms by ayoola01(m): 12:43am On Aug 15, 2014
The charges you complained about is legitimate if I must say "SMS Alert" charge, if you do not receive SMS and you are been charge, then your mobile number with them is either incorrect or you have changed it, then you require an update on your account/request for deactivation of SMS alert which will be gladly granted.

Also, the circular also indicated that 65nairais charged after 3 transactions, and what I observed amongst we youth is that we are still reluctant to embrace other transaction channels e.g mobile money services, internet banking, and usage of ATM for other transactions we intend to carry out......All we want is these cash shaaaaaaa........ and that is what CBN is trying to reduce......

All izzzz well with OUR DEAR NAIJA ECONOMY.....

ayukdaboss: Our banks may pay for our ATM services but they steal much more secretly or openly. Every month FirstBank charges me about 160naira for SMS charges and some other things I don't even understand yet I don't get any messages at all from them.

My folks who use more services at the bank complain about secret minor deductions regularly etc. yet this man wants us to start paying for our atm services. These banks are clearly getting more gain from us than this 65 naira we're about to start paying them. So if I wan withdraw 1k from another bank I go pay 65naira??

Oh Sanusi where art thou?? Come and save your people

That true. Also reliably gathered today from the management at F.C that Training school starts on 22nd Oct. And that the F.C 2.5 will still be at work next week.
Guess the changes was due to the change in schedule for the guys presently at training school. Will keep the house abreast as HCMD will be on hand to address "US" tommorrow. Stay blessed.

I would say you dont allow your hope get faint, Firstcontact training has been a hugely informative and fun-filled rigorous programme, with challenging task ahead though. But it really been fun. Praying to see many of our "hopefuls" join us at the training school come Sept/Oct.
Stay blessed.

@Ayoola01 how long does it take for them to call for Interview...On the average....Since you've had an experience in the process..

The whole took less than two month. So once you scale through the screening of your credentials and you put up a nice essay, then you keep an eye on your mailbox, you get invited for a panel interview, personal interview with a top officer. Then, medicals. I wish you God's favor.

Wow, great hardwork from fellow jobbers. However, to contribute a little to the present discussion, Gtbank training school is a progressive one as some trainees graduate everymonth (afta expiration of 4months intense training) while another batch of 30-35 trainees is admitted into the school. It goes on and on.
So, if you are priviledged to make it through to the final stage, Good for you. All round favor for everyone.

jidbeg1: Sup bro hw was ur intervie today? Please can u help with the tips?
Thanks alot broda, I shld hav updated the forum b4 now bt I came in pretty late yesterday, we were 7 in number that was scheduled 4 interview and I was d 7th person to be interviewed.
I was told what orange signify 'cos I wore an orange tie as a touch to my outfit. I was asked about the banks vision, the orange rules and why I feel I should be hired and some other question relating to what is on my C.V.
It was God's favour all through.
So what I will advice is that you plan by reading up everything about the bank, vision core values, brand elements, orange rules e.t.c and make it a blend with what u hav on ur C.V and what you hav to offer the bank.
Best of God favour pals.

Career / Re: GTBank Job Or Masters Degree? by ayoola01(m): 10:00pm On May 26, 2012
Tanimola22, You are a genuis, Infact, I would love to be your friend. With such an explicit breakdown of informatn, the guy in questn shld sit down and weigh his options. If I were to be in his shoes, I already know what to settle down for. Kudos broda.
tanimola22:

I asked you what next because I wanted to know whether or not you have designed an excellent hedge against the unfavorably volatile job market in the UK and other parts of the world. From your answer, you have none. I might be wrong though.

I asked whether it's a top 5 US or UK school because I wanted to gauge your desirability to employers upon your graduation. Unfortunately, your answer shows that you might be no different from other unemployed naija graduates, who have very fancy UK degrees which cost close to 15K, if you went to study in the UK.

To make matters worse, you want to go and study a course that is a one way, a course that favors mostly professionals who have had years of solid professional experience. A course that will not give you an edge to immediately pursue a PhD just in case the job won't just come.

There is one fact that you must always bear in mind, and it is that 'foreign universities will continue to admit students no matter how old the students are'. Therefore, If I were you, I would definitely accept the GT offer, work for some years and then jet out for further studies, if I still deem it necessary. This way, I would stand a better chance of getting into a nicer school, in fact an Ivy league or something very close to it. This way, I would be solid, desirable enough and also stand a better chance of landing an awesome job, after graduation, because of my previous work experience which must surely be of immense advantage to me. I am not saying that one is certain of landing one's dream job just because one has had a solid professional experience. My point is that your chances are much higher if you have a solid work experience plus a top MBA degree.

If I really hate bank job and want to neglect the GT offer for further studies abroad, a strategy I would employ is to simply change courses. I would go for an MSc program instead of an MBA program. I would then make sure I aim to get the best possible grades I can get. This will help me in two ways. First, it will help land me job interviews and I will have something to brag about during the job interviews. Second, I will be competitive to get fully funded PhD positions just in case the ideal job does not come after about 2 years of searching. I think you get my drift.

A lot of naija people are unemployed and stuck in Lagos and London and New York and elsewhere because their Master's degrees are so poor that nobody would believe they can cope with PhD level courses and research. Such people thought going abroad and getting 'any' oyinbo kpali would give them jobs at Total, Mobil, Chevron, Davidson Kempner Advisers and Fortress Investment etc. Unfortunately, many of them are not smiling today.

I will leave you to ponder over my submission and come to a conclusion by yourself, a conclusion that will maximize your own professional payoff.

T22.
