Career / Re: *****blue Ocean Strategy***** by b2oohh: 12:30pm On Jun 14, 2010 |
Red Ocean Versus Blue Ocean Strategy Red Ocean Strategy Blue Ocean Strategy Compete in existing market space. Create uncontested market space. Beat the competition. Make the competition irrelevant. Exploit existing demand. Create and capture new demand. Make the value-cost trade-off. Break the value-cost trade-off. Align the whole system of a firm’s activities Align the whole system of a firm’s with its strategic choice of differentiation or low cost activities in pursuit of differentiation and low cost. Strategy will always involve both opportunity and risk, be it a red ocean or a blue ocean initiative. But at present the playing field is dramatically unbalanced in favor of tools and analytical frameworks to succeed in red oceans. As long as this remains true, red oceans will continue to dominate companies’ strategic agenda even as the business imperative for creating blue oceans takes on new urgency. Analytical tools and framework is available in the Harvard Business Press edition of Blue Ocean Strategy. Need a copy-email b2oconsulting@yahoo.com |

Career / Re: 3rd Class Graduate, any Hope For Them In The Present Naija? by b2oohh: 10:32am On May 28, 2010 |
Hope is relative,Future-of course yes.My candid advice for you is to get some certifications ( not all of them are expensive but if you want to make yourself employ-able it is a neccessity!!!) As a HR Professional, i have come across a lot of first-class,2.1 candidates that cannot hold their own. An example- i once asked a 2.1 candidate at an interview to name a Sociological theory and how it can be applied to group/team dynamics and he just kept stuttering, and this is a Sociology graduate!!! Jeez you wonder how he got past his year 2 or 3 in school. It has been proven times without number and i stand to be corrected by any proven practising HR professional that certificates only will get you the job. I run all my candidates through a few tests and i must say the higher grades are not synonymous with sucess at interviews and work output. But 1 thing i can implore you to do is get the relevant certification and professional membership and pray that you will be in the right place at the right time. Good luck for the future-remember he who is down needs not fear any fall cos what have you got to loose-NUTTING!!! |

for putting this up. You see HR has numerous facets and angles to it. You have 1.Recruitment and headhunting(the former being basic while latter being more advanced/poaching of talented top notch employees) 2.Compensation and Benefits (what do you pay who and why) 3.Training and Staff Welfare (how do u make Mr B perform as expected, train him of course or hire another that can do it from Day 1-mind you someone trained him somewhere b4 you hired him & also note that as head of HR you are the voice of the employees-empathy and managerial discretion should be your watchwords). 4.Promotions,Pensions and Transfers and Deployment. (Big organisations will have a unit dedicated soley for this) 5.HR Consultancy: You do HR jobs for clients, recruit for them, appraise their staff etc On the issue on certification-you have loads of them internationally, CIPD,SHRM,Institute of Recruitment Professionals,Recruitment and Emplyment Confederation amongst others and not to forget CIPM-you aill get exemptions for being members of some of the international ones.Contact CIPM for more details. For the green horns-The future is very bright as local employers and clients are now coming to terms with the fact that a functional HR dept is pivotal to organisational sucess. A suggestion is to have a mentor-someone with loads of experience in managing Human Resources as no matter the academic exercise (even in Harvard) human beings are dynamic and only experience and networking will see you through. Who am i? - A UK trained HR Consultant with over 10 years experience on 3 continents * machere44-ain't no place like home, the possibilities are limitless here,i consult for SME's and you will be amazed at what you can do for them. |
