Travel / My Border Struggle Traveling Through 4 West African Countries by Bbsharon(f): 8:44pm On Jun 21
Can we have a Borderless Africa ? Or maybe at least a Borderless West Africa? Is that asking for too much? I guess not.

Recently, I travelled through four(4)West African Countires including Nigeria and I tell you the border protocols is something I think we can do without for better integration and promoting Africa to the world through tourism.

It is something that is very achievable and doable and just needs to be implemented. As Africans we should be able to move and travel freely within our continents without all these restrictions put in place.

To make it worse is the amount being charged at these borders…there is a different amount charged if you are crossing a particular border for the first time. Even if you have been to the country before, it sadly does not count as I have been to Ghana before and I still had to part away with some money at the Aflao border to cross from Lome, Togo into Ghana.

The immigration officers there proudly told me being to Ghana before is nothing and what concerns them most is the fact that I’m crossing this particular border for the first time. I was told I have to pay the amount charged for a “virgin passport”, quite laughable I tell you. When I saw there was no way out as they were not even bothered nor flinching from their positions I just had to pay and leave.

To crown this atrocious act up they charge more at this particular border than at the Nigeria to Benin Republic border or the Benin to Togo border.

I believe we can do better for tourism purpose, for development purpose and for better integration within our continent.

Let us travel more without borders and promote every aspect of our lives, cultures, trades and arts to the world. Let the world see Africa, let them see us and who we are through our own very lens and not through the western media alone.

Let us be able to tell our own stories without holding back nor restrictions put in place.

Travel / How I Travelled Through 3 West African Countries In 3nights And 4days by Bbsharon(f): 1:56pm On Jun 19
HOW I TRAVELLED THROUGH 3 WEST AFRICAN COUNTRIES IN 3NIGHTS AND 4 DAYS…

Okay so let’s start from the very beginning…😁 Years ago and I mean 5-6 years ago I had plans to travel round west African countries and explore all the major tourist centres there. As at that time I was actively solo traveling and visiting different states in Nigeria. I was seriously saving up to do my African tour.

Along the line I had a change of mind because of security issues and I was not brave enough too I guess. So I created a travel community and I had few friends who were interested so we started planing but it didn’t come to fruition. Then COVID 19 happened and the whole thing cancelled entirely. I also stoped traveling and writing about my travels and a lots like life happened. But all through everything that happened the thought of doing that solo trip never left my mind.

Recently, this year I had the thought coming up over and over and I started planning how to travel again. Thankfully, this time around it was more of ticking off my bucket list and not facing my fears. It was neither a question of if I’m brave enough or not, and I was glad about that. Truly, I had my fears but then I did not let it stop me in any way. I decided I would do this and I would not look back. So here we are, finally😁

To note…this was entirely a budget trip and my focus was on the capital cities alone and visiting the most important tourist attractions. It was a trip where I had to Couch-surf one night, stay in budget hotel another and then stay at a friend’s place on the third night in order to save cost.

I will be sharing in details the cost I incurred on transportation, food, hotel, souvenirs, border protocols and how I navigated my way through. How I managed my way around in the French speaking countries without understanding anything basically more than Bonjour…

Also I will be sharing what it really feels like traveling alone as a lady and how save it is. I would definitely do the trips again and probably next time and I guess one country at a time so I can explore all I want well and also relax well 😁🤗

I do not have an active blog at the moment but I would share more video details on my YouTube later on so you can do well to check them out when I upload.

So prior to this time I always thought Ibom Air as a state owned and the only one in Nigeria at at that was state funded but as at last year the chief operating officer of Ibom Air George Uriesi made a comment about that assumption I had and cleared the air saying;

‘’ Akwa Ibom State Government is not funding Ibom Air but like a business venture has invested resources in the carrier and has hands off to a competent management team and will in time, start recouping its investment.’’

So safe to say more like a business venture for them and the states which is quite a good one.

Hello Nairalanders, here in this video I gave a review of my flight flying on Ibom Air from the city of Calabar to the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport Abuja.

Lately Ibom Air have been considered as the best Airline in Nigeria and so far my experience with them have been good also except for few times when their customers service at the check in counters were acting up.

Well, for me I just feel we are missing out some of the main point of the whole place already and it's tending more towards just an entertainment spot leaving out some important aspect of the whole setup already.

I hope you do enjoy the view!!

Well, I did enjoy capturing the beautiful sunset view at the waterfront which made up for my day at the resort. Aside that, the place now seems more like an evening leisure sit-out spot with different lounge and bars selling drinks(alcoholic and non), barbecued fish, shawarma, night treats, and offering evening night out activities and is usually surprisingly kind of rowdy towards the waterfront area and the other bars at the end of the road to the entrance. So if you do enjoy such activities then I bet you would not find the place boring at all

The last time I was here was in 2019, I visited the Slave trade museum, went on a boat ride and hoped to come back to see a movie at the cinema then as the movie they were showing were not recent movies at the time.

The Resort used to be a very active leisure spot with some of the major facilities still
working then. At least then the cinema that has become inactive for a while was being setup to function again and though not showing latest movies but it was better than none. The boat ride seems more attractive to me then unlike this time around in 2022, I would not dare go on that boat ride again grin. The boats look so old and not well maintained at all with the river bank surroundings piled up with dirt. Also the slave trade museum was not open nor was there anyone around there ready to attend to tourist.

I will like to know so as to join your tour group.
I plan going on tours but going alone and not in group will be very boring.
Not specifically a calendar routine for now but I run a travel company that do plan organized trips for individuals and groups. You can send a DM!

But seriously, what’s all the hype about this university? Nigeria’s average Fed Universities look like this or even better and they number more than 20. Nice pics though.

One of the main reason is because it’s the premiere university in Ghana just like our University of Ibadan.

'Dami you're welcome.

That's strange... but then server issues can cause the glitch situation as you've said. I'll check your blog again with another Internet Service Provider and device.

Second, I saw the "tired look" that you had on the 45-minutes flight from Lagos to Accra because of the Arik Air flight delay. Your return flight from Accra was yummy though with the Ghana jollof jumping right into your eyes. grin

You can get yourself an energy booster drink like Lucozade or even Glucose D drink the next time you plan to take a trip by air and even by road because delays and flight cancelations due to adverse weather condition and more are sometimes inevitable after doing all that you can to avoid that situation.

You'll find the article weblink right below (that I bookmarked some time ago) useful as well. smiley

TRAVEL FATIGUE IS NOT JET LAG
Often used interchangeably, there is a significant difference between travel fatigue and jet lag. While travel fatigue could be caused by any mode of transport, jet lag is related to aircraft and timezones.

Also known as time zone change syndrome, jet lag is when people travel across different time zones and end up disrupting their sleep cycle. This condition is seen related to circadian rhythm disorder and can lead to irritability, insomnia, and headaches.

'Dami, enjoy your weekend.wink

Thanks a lot, I appreciate and I will check the link out. Have a great weekend also.

AlphaTaikun:

@Bbsharon, I trust you're doing okay.

Wow! This thread brings back memories for me 'Dami. smiley

My first trip ever into Kotoka International Airport was in 1987 via one of the 4 brand new Nigeria Airways wide-bodied Airbus A310 planes. We were originally flying from MMIA, Ikeja, Lagos to the very well-planned and beautiful city of Abidjan in Cote d'Ivoire for an international conference at Hotel Ivoire [where the iconic pop legend Michael Jackson stayed during his 1986 visit to that country].

The Airbus plane first landed smoothly at Kotoka Airport, Accra which had about 3 disused or crashed planes littered around and it felt good to be in that huge Nigeria Airways A310 plane [as a person of Nigerian descent] when compared to other smaller passenger planes parked on the tarmac.

We then flew off again onboard the Airbus A310 from Kotoka Airport, Accra for the nearby city of Abidjan, in Cote d'Ivoire after spending close to one hour at Kotoka Airport.

The new Kotoka International Airport Terminals as of 2022 are more functional and modern than the Kotoka Airport of 1987.

Safe Trips.

Ciao. wink

Attached below is an image of a Nigeria Airways Airbus A310. [One of the four ever purchased directly from the Airbus factory in 1985].

Thanks for sharing!! Talking about the Nigeria Airways plane showed it’s really been a long time ago. And yes, the kotoka international Airport was renovated not too long ago

In this video I shared my honest flight review using Airpeace Airline for my return trip to Accra from Lagos.

My flight was delayed for 3hours plus and it was a night flight so it was a frustrating experience having to stay in the airport for that long due to flight delays.
