Jyde81: I'm a true Nigerian but sentiments aside, on an individual level, performance and standing, Yaya Toure is not Mikel's mate. Yaya Toure deserves the award. Look people let us be promoting excellence and the spirit of giving honour to whom honour is due and stop promoting sentiments. It is not right and it could discredit the reputation of the award in future. Thank you all.well said bro. Sentiments aside. |

rahazaqa: D AFOY award will go to d person that deserve it,YaYa Toure...World 2nd best defensive midfielder behind Sergio Boshokoto(bosquet)....My point exactly. If mor likes, let him praise the obviously average mikel till tomorrow, Yaya is still the player that deserves the afcon awards. |

Chartey:I always appreciate intelligent posts as yours. Bravo! My opinion is this: This is a very calculative statement by Morinho. Infact, the captain band to mikel was also a planned action to give mikel an edge come Jan 9 (award). Morinho is very well known for helping his players (telling drogba to intentionally get a red in order to get some free time- Drogba mentions it in his book). & If you check op's post again, mor said Essien mistakenly gave the captain band to mikel instead of Ashley cole. Right? Why now when the afcon award is coming? Why did mor shower so much praise on mikel just because of one single goal?! Just one goal! The answer is simple: the afcon award. Morinho will never quit his pranks. 4 Likes |

My point? Mikel doesnt deserve Africa best. Emenike, Moses or even Banse! desesves that prize long before mikel should be mentioned. But then i expect politics to carry the day again. Remember when the senators specially invited mikel to the house cos he won CL? I hope they wont force rubbish down the throat of world media again come Jan 9. Seems to me they're largely influencing the mikel image for their selfish reasons. |

safarigirl: you lack comprehension. AFCON is played for that RECOGNITION, once you're recognized, it leads to an award. In a non-AFCON year, they could give Toure cuz then the only measure could be club performance, but in an AFCON/World Cup year, performance at these tournaments usually go a long way in determining the AFCON winner.Aboutrika of Egypt was clearly the best player in the afcon tournament where Egypt won recently. Suprisingly, he didnt get the Afcon best player prize. Honestly, i dont know where you get your facts from. They are so wrong. |

However, afcon tournament was not set up to determine africa best player. Thats very secondary. |

safarigirl: You're either blind or suffering from selective amnesia. I said they play for RECOGNITION, not to win awards, the awards are the extra boost. How can you say anyone is playing as a duty? Duty how? What has Nigeria done for Mikel that he has a 'duty' to play? If anything, he ought to never play for us after you ungrateful lot kidnapped his father. That's the cr@ppiest comment you've ever made, and that's a record considering you're an encyclopedia of cr@p. You know nothing either, in fact, it's giving me a headache arguing with a blockhead like you. What has Nigeria done for mikel huh? So you're not aware that players playing for national teams also benefit from their national teams? So you dont know? So Drogba only plays for CIV because of recognision? George weah, Pele of Ghana, Okocha etc didnt want to quit international football because the understood the concept of DUTY. When players get a national call, they respond except there are issues unresolved preventing them. I dont expect you to understand this concept of duty though. You're just an irrelevant internet handle with irrelevant opinions. I'll leave it there. |
Sports / Re: Mikel Winning AFOTY Award Will Be An Insult To African Football by bettermike: 1:07pm On Jan 03, 2014 |
safarigirl: no my dear, if it's supposed to motivate African players to be outstanding, give it to Mikel, else, there will be no reason to play AFCON, they can say "I won't go for national assignments anymore, I'll just say I'm sick when it's time for AFCON/WC Qualifiers, lemme give 100% to my club, fuq my country.". Such slave mentality."give it to mikel, else, there will be no reason to play afcon." By this statement, you clearly imply that players only play afcon to be africa best and nothing more. Later you change it to recognition. Look, if the quoted statement is what i think it is, then am sure you are the one with selective amnesia my dear. Like i said, you have no idea what you're saying. Simple. |

naija noni:Interesting facts. Also interesting is the perspective you view the Luiz midfield issue. As for me, i saw a frustrated Benitez who was tired of leaving the front of the chelsea defence in the hands of a largely unreliable mikel. Apart for a few loss of concentration, Luiz became an instant hit in that position and everyone heeved a sigh of relief. |

striker9: You are right,Mikel contributed immensely against CIV,Yaya was in the box 18 with the ball and was about to score before Mikel tackled him from behind, where was Onazi then?Nice. I remember that one. |
Sports / Re: Mikel Winning AFOTY Award Will Be An Insult To African Football by bettermike: 12:32pm On Jan 03, 2014 |
striker9: Mikel was already ruled out due to injury before the final.thats mere propaganda. It was a news well served to compensated die-hard mikel fans like you. Injury ko injury ni. |
Sports / Re: Mikel Winning AFOTY Award Will Be An Insult To African Football by bettermike: 12:29pm On Jan 03, 2014 |
striker9: Moses didn't play in the finals,I though he gave Torres an assist by heading down a ball from set pieces.Perhaps you're talking about Moses of the old testament. After leading Isrealites through the red sea, he shows up in the match and nodded the ball to Torres to score. Hahaha... The Moses of Nigeria didnt start. Neither did mikel play. |
Sports / Re: Mikel Winning AFOTY Award Will Be An Insult To African Football by bettermike: 12:24pm On Jan 03, 2014 |
naija noni:Tah! Say all you want. But mikel's pass to Ideye doesnt count as assist. So remove it fast! If you're using pass for your arguement, then we should mention people like Moses or onazi before mikel. Oh, mikel had highest assist in afcon? Wow. You must be kidding me. I cant wait for Kelechi Iheanacho to take mikel's place for good. Okocha won matches for us. Scored freekick goals, gave numerous assists and so on but no afcon best. Yet mikel who is always silent in big matches is being considered. Btw, against CIV, we would have lost the match if not for Onazi o. Am sure you watched the match. |
Sports / Re: Mikel Winning AFOTY Award Will Be An Insult To African Football by bettermike: 12:06pm On Jan 03, 2014 |
naija noni: MostI should be asking you if you watch football bro. Mikel and Moses didnt even play in the Uefa cup final. They were benched. I remember Benitez converting Luiz to 4 because mikel was wack! Please get your facts right. Forget rotation jor, Morinho is the reason mikel's starting. Many people now know Morinho to be a player helper. Even Drogba confessed in his book how Morinho would encourage him to tackle other players roughly just to get a red so he could be with his family. Morinho is simply helping mikel for Afcon simple. Believe it or not. Remember, this is the same guy that contemplated selling mikel o. |

safarigirl: what bloody duty? Where was KP Boateng when Ghana needed him? My dear, if Mikel decides to not play for Nigeria tomorrow, he won't lose anything. Nobody has a duty to do squat! They do it because they want to do it, because of the recognition that comes with it, duty ke? What a joke! No be una been dey insult Mikel those days when e dey make excuses to not play? So tey Tu face go do song for am, yet you say he doesn't add anything to the team. Now that he's playing his heart out, una still dey insult am, will you ever be satisfied? Are you saying players want to play at the world cup in Brazil because they want to win world best player? Look, the joy of wanting to have your name as one player that was at the tournament is enough. As usual, you dont know what you are saying at all. Safarigirl, you know absolutely nothing. From relationshp matters to sports, i score you zero my dear. |

heykims:Very well said. African footballers will be seriously mocked. A guy who, at his age, still plays football as a rookie, winning Afcon best is pure embarassment. Even that new comer, William has pushed mikel even further backward in the pecking order of Chelsea's best players list. |

Can u c d difference between mikel n okocha? omar22: ENZO SCIFO: So becos Brown Ideye won the nations playing most of the matches and Drogba and Samuel Eto'o did not win abi play sef Ideye is a better player and should be rated above them both. omar22: |

Players go to nations cup because its their duty to country for first! Probably to win it and make more history as team. Wait a min, where did you get that idea from btw? |

hollyfat: :O , without Mikel what will those pple do on the pitchWhat did you just say? How many of Nigeria's goals did he have a hand in? Honestly, if we had a better player for his position at Afcon, he'd have warmed the bench well. Remember Ethiopia match, Moses single handedly did the magic. Against Burkinafaso, Mba. Etc. Mikel is grossly overrated. 2 Likes |

We quickly forget that mikel was almost surplus to requirement at the start of this season (even with Morinho at the helms). He was seriously warming bench last season and Galatasary came calling but they couldnt pay so mikel was forced to stay. Now he has started 7matches and he's already Africa's best?! Hello! 1 Like |

safarigirl: MIKEL OBI. Football is a team sport, not an individual game, hence, I'll pick the one person who can help the cause of the team, not one oversabi. Lamouche had Toure in his team and they were kicked out, Keshi had Mikel and won AFCON. Now answer your question without a biased mind.Very biased. Yaya will do his job and even score match winning goals in tough matches for you. As for mikel, just pray cos he might just be dispossesed of the ball that will allow the opposition to score the winning goal against your team. At some point, chelsea fans shouted in fear when mikel held the ball. |
