kross_01: in other words, the great prophet is hinting his congregation that he'll gladly receive such gift if they so want to give. The truth is that men of God had long lost the real calling of their work. They've long ceased being missionaries & now pride themselves as shepherds who luks afta d already converted sheep. Now i ask myself, if the early missionaries that brought religion to us & even lived with us, despite d huge cultural & religous barriers that existed then(some lost their lives even in the process) had waited till they were given the gifts of PJs, guess we'll b strtng nw 2 tlk abt religion.so plz i'ld luv 2 knw incase of nxt tym, hw exactly PJs would aid in spreading the gospel(xcpt mayb d gospel of prosperity whch is what many of them preach now)

GBAAAM! YOU HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD! Then you have the "missionary" churches like redemeed and the likes who basically target foreign countries where there is a sizeable community of nigerians and set up shop there....I am in czech republic one of most atheist countries ever, the redeemed in prague is basically nigerian designated...a land yearning for seed sowing but instead the church is looing for fastest way to add branches, numbers and a bit of cash

Mandelaguy: A positive step in a positive direction. This GEJ administration is not getting enough credit for all it is trying to give to Nigerians. A country that has been regressive and almost at the precipice of dark abyss is gradually being brought back to a constructive and focused existence. I keep saying it that the culmination of all the Federal govt. projects between now and first quarter of 2015 will make Nigerians realise that those who kept us in this position of backwardness are feeding their emotions with lies and deceit in order to come back and assume the same nonchalant positions and postures on the affairs of this great nation. Kudos to GEJ and Onyebuchi Chukwu. We are all waiting.

Positive step? The way people think in this God forsakn country... 650 million is almost 100 billion naira, THAT IS MORE THAN THE WHOLE FG BUDGET FOR EDUCATION FOR WHOLE COUNTRY...

Baby phucking steps first, this is just anothr opportunity to either embezzle or just another big piece of show that in 10 years will be a relic! the development needed in the health sector isn't some mega hospital...even with best equipmnt, if the education sector keeps on churning 20th century doctors in 21st century, goodluck

the source of his wealth. How much was his salary as governor?

I think people like him should not be allowed to talk for the new party.
It will hurt the party more. Let him just stay at the background.

Okay im as little a GEJ fan as anyone but please let's not showcase ignorance...Nigeria is a part of OIC and that is not the handwork of GEJ...It is part of his duty as the president of nigeria to be represent her at an organization it willingly signed up for...

Let's have a discussion why nigeria is part of such a redundant organization but let's start having respect for our leaders too...Why do nigerians go from one extreme to the other...

CFCfan: @Bloodless: I agree that Sanusi should be retained if the APC wins in 2015.

the presidential ticket could be Shekarau/Fashola.

happy we agree on something and that definitely fashola should be on the ticket albeit the presidential candidate but to mention shekarau's name? My brother, we are still talking about progressives! What is progressive about a man who stopped polio vaccinations(for 3 months) preventing the eradication of polio... Or someone who formed the hisbah? Also a proponent of sharia law?

Come on, if we are speaking progressive let's be progressive...let's also leave the tribal sentiments at the door....Religion has failed nigeria terribly and I see no reason why any religious inclined politician would be considered progressive

Politics / Re: Who Will Be The Presidential Candidate Of The Newly Merged Parties? by bloodless: 12:12am On Feb 07, 2013
Wallie: From a strictly numbers point of view, only a combination of candidates that can deliver the North and the Southwest can pose a credible threat to PDP. There are 3 major regions and a winner of any election will need a very strong showing in 2 of the 3 regions OR a decent showing in ALL regions. In today’s political climate, I don’t think there’s a person that can put up decent numbers in all regions of the country.

Unfortunately, if a person can only deliver SE and SS, the combination still won’t put up good enough numbers because GEJ will still win majority of the votes from those regions thereby reducing the pie size, and the SW will still be up for grabs.

Personally, I think the only thing Buhari can offer Nigeria is a strong anti-corruption stance and respect from the military. But I would rather him anoint someone else because he’s a polarizing figure everywhere except with the common man from the North. Do you really think all those past Northern politicians and leaders would want Buhari to be the President? Also, I don’t believe in recycling leaders as he already had his time under the sun and it’s time for new set of hands that can be trusted. Trusted is the keyword here and the only way one can be certain is to look at the person’s past performance.

I see Ribadu as someone that could deliver the North, especially if anointed by Buhari, but also as someone that can also deliver the same anti-corruption stance as Buhari. However, I don’t think he has the executive-type leadership skills needed to grow Nigeria. His skill set is really tailored towards investigation and doggedness. As such, he should be the vice presidential candidate.

In terms of leadership skills, foresight and popularity that can deliver the SW (and perhaps, most of Nigeria?), I doubt anybody is better suited than Fashola. Love or hate his policies, he delivers and he delivers big! He is the governor that shamed other governors into performing!

Lagos is probably the most diverse state in Nigeria and the most populous with varying competing interests – if you will a microcosm of Nigeria. If you can build Lagos’ economy, you most certainly can build Nigeria. I think Fashola will make a better presidential candidate.

Other people that should be members of the cabinet
1. Sanusi for his bluntness and common sense approach.

2. Oshiomole for his progressiveness but might also be needed to make Fashola take a second look at his progressive policies that may be affecting the masses negatively. Someone needs to fight for public policies.

3. Madam Dora – I think she did a great job with NAFDAC even though all that headache in Anambra tainted her legacy

4. Okonjo-Iweala – I think she has been demonized unfairly but one has to understand that her marching orders come from above. She can only do the best she can within directives or policies of her boss. Give her the right policies and I’m certain she’ll perform wonders.

5. Rochas* - I keep hearing his name being brought up don’t I don’t really have an opinion of my own yet

as an IGBO man, i endorse this! Fashola/Ribadu for president....

I cannot understand how for the life of me a progressive democratic party can be considering nominating a former military DICTATOR who is 2 times the age of the average nigerian..Smh, do we even understand what the word progressive means?

I think buhari is a great character, in terms of his anti-corruption but his influence doesn't need to be connected with him being the face of this new party. There are so many areas he can contribute, this party simply has to go with young, influential and progressive candidates if they want to add anything...I'm talking of people like Fashola, ribadu, adams osh., rochas?(not a big fan), amaechi(pdp?), Idk sadly it is hard to think of alot of people but we need new faces. This party cannot recycle a face as old as buhari not to talk less of TINUBU? wtf...

If tinubu or buhari believe in this country then they must accept that it is bigger than them, how they set up this party is MORE important than who will have the title of president, simple! Just like i said with jonathan that no matter who is president today, PDP was set up as a corrupt party and it will not change overnight....

I'm excited with this development, let's see where it goes and I pray tribalism doesn't destroy it!

naijaking1: A big abuse of the law and an impediment to future recruitment of foreign based Nigerians.

The ruling should have either compelled the government to level the playing field for other ministers, pay back the alleged sum, or even prohibited future hiring or paying of salary in foreign currency.

These ministers actually lost money returning to serve in naija.

I know a friend with $500k gross who went to earn $125K in a naija parastatal, I'll see if he too is asked to pay back his salary.

Anyway, so much for returning home to contribute.

Wow, I can only say wow...The laws of nigeria was blatantly broken by the president and because of sentiments you are questioning the judicial for acting according to the laws? When I say nigeria's problem is not politicians but nigerians themselves...What kind of madness is this?

Like mentioned earlier too, finance minister who wanted to collect salary in different tender...shocking!

I have been a fan of the governor since the fuel subsidy and as well on seeing that he is a man that lives by his means and as well as his background in the union, so I just randomly decided this fateful morning to youtube him a little bit and was shocked to find this follow up of events...This is really odd, first from the insane arrest like that, to his reason of arrest then to the weird re-instatement...what's that about?

Video of arrest:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AMvhUf8I1Qw

Why he ordered arrest: http://edopeopleforum.com/index.php?topic=982.0

To his arraignment: http://nigerianobservernews.com/15092011/news/news2.html

To the re-instatement of the same guy: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2012/02/i-wasnt-recalled-for-political-reasons-loye/

This is really odd, anyone with a full scope on what happened here?

Yes shame to you nigerians! Your government is only a reflection of your people!

HNosegbe: Hmmm... Isn't it funny how scanty threads like this are, while threads about Tonto Dikeh hit 10 pages?

NL is a reflection of Nigeria: We (most of us) chase after frivolities, we are easily distracted, we lack the ability to think deeply about issues, we have pitifully short memories, and worst of all, we are cowardly. We love our immediate comfort too much to make sacrifices for a better tomorrow.

That's why we keep sharing Abuja money every month: it's simply too convenient, and we're too lazy to think of alternatives.

Nigeria is poor, because Nigerians are mentally poor.
Politics / Re: The Nigerian Millionaires- Time Magazine 1965 Article by bloodless: 12:55am On Jan 11, 2013
This to me was ne of the biggest highlights of the article...is it possible that we've missed out on maybe one of the biggest issues in nigeria? overpopulation...WTF! From 55 to 160 in less than 50 years? that's 3 times...wtf

papas:

The period after independence was opportune for prosperity but which kind aphrodisiac we dey consume for this country! ! !

Population of 55 million in 1965, and a population today of at least 150 million. Some other nations, like the U.K. for example, with roughly the same population as Nigeria in 1965 have not experienced the same level of population growth Nigeria has experienced (UK current population is under 65 million see quote and link below).

Like I said, which kind aphrodisiac we dey consume! Despite the many scourges that Nigeria has been beset with, the one thing that has thrived is the population growth.

I can't lie the first thing i would do would be to remove fuel subsidy, revamp the budget and change the ridiculous jump in security expenditure, divert more money to the power sector, roads and education...these 3 things would be the ultimate focus with the power sector taking the foremost priority...

The next would be regarding accountability, slashing the salaries of house and senate, cutting down heaving on aso rock budget and cutting down on all forms of government expenditure including campaigns like buying phones for people and soo...nigerians are entrepreneurial, we don't need a government to feed us..we need a government that will provide the right facilities for us to survive...

Don't forget, as opposed to borrowing for government projects i would funnel low interest loans to the people...

This would be the start ofcourse
