Health / Do You Have Always Have Stressful Days? See How It Can Affect Your Blood Pressur by BPdoc: 11:49pm On Mar 08
How many of us have heard our mothers say something like....

"Better don't stress me ooo. It's not me you'll give hypertension"

Let me know in the comment

Usually they say it in their language

But were they wrong?

No...

Medically, it has been discovered that chronic stress i.e exposure to stress for a long time, can lead to sustained high blood pressure

How does this happen?

Let me explain,

When you are stressed, your body releases two hormones

Namely, cortisol and adrenaline

These hormones cause vasoconstriction on the blood vessels and cause a temporary increase in blood pressure and helps the body respond appropriately to the situation at hand at that point in time

But what now happen when you're always under stress?

The hormones remain permanently in the blood causing the blood vessels to remain constricted hence leading to sustained high blood pressure

So what can you do to reduce stress?

1) Mindful breathing: Take a moment in your busy schedule to practice deep mindful breathing.

2) Regular exercise: This is a powerful stress reliever. It doesn't have to be long and strenuous. It can be walking, dancing, gardening etc. It won't just help you destress, it will also help you sleep well

3) Build Positive Relationships: Maintain a good friendly environment around you and try your possible stay away from toxic environments(people & places)

4) Take breaks if you can: You are not a robot, neither are you a machine. If you notice your stress level is at its peak, take a break. Go out, spend time with family and friends, enjoy the beauty of nature and eat good food.

5) Limit Screen Time: Reducing screen time especially before bedtime can help improve your sleep quality.

6) Have time for quality sleep: This is very essential for your brain and maximum functioning in your day to day activities

Health / Help Me! I Don't Know How To Measure My BP At Home! by BPdoc: 10:47pm On Mar 05
There's this myth that it is only those that have been recently diagnosed with high BP that should be monitoring their blood pressure regularly

This is wrong

Everyone of us has a blood pressure and we have a duty of monitoring it

Just as we monitor our appearance and external outlook, we must also look out for our internal environment

So this write-up is not only for those that have been diagnosed with High BP but for everyone

So How Can BP Be Measured Accurately,
Before that, note that;

• Having a BP monitor at home or in close proximity is adviced (especially for those diagnosed)

• Do not smoke, eat ,exercise, drink alcohol or coffee 15 minutes before measuring your blood pressure as this might alter your results

Follow the instructions that came with your monitor. Make sure you place the cuff around your arm as described in the instructions.

Step 1:
Place the arm cuff just above your elbow. The cuff should be about 2cm above your elbow to make sure it can detect the artery in your arm, just under the skin.

Step 2:
Keep still and quiet while you take your reading. Moving, crossing your legs, eating, talking etc can raise your reading

Step 3:
Take two or three readings, each about one to two minutes apart. If your first reading is much higher than the next, ignore it and take an extra reading. Once you have two to three readings, you can work out the average.

Step 4:
Keep a record of your measurements. Write them down in a book, or in your phone or even on a computer to track your progress.

Health / I'm Overweight, Do I Need To Lose Weight To Lower My High BP? by BPdoc: 11:59pm On Mar 03
Your weight can determine how healthy you are or will be

A person that is used to consuming fatty foods might have to deal with cardiovascular health issue later on

Why is that?

Because accumulation of too much fat and excessive cholesterol in the body can cause the accumulation of fatty deposits within the artery walls, common known as plaque

This accumulation can lead to a condition known as "atherosclerosis"

Atherosclerosis hence is one of the potential factors that causes hypertension

Because it causes hardening and narrowing of the blood vessels,

This causes resistance to blood flow hence raising blood pressure

So, is weight loss significant to reversing High BP?

Of course Yes

This will prevent the excess cholesterol from accumulating around vital organs and in the vessels

And hence prevent resistance to blood flow

But the truth is that, most Nigerians don't even know their Body Mass Index i.e BMI

It is very important to know your BMI to know

BMI= Weight (Kg)/Height (m²)

Use the formula above to calculate your BMI

After that, use the chart below to know whether your weight and height are within healthy proportion

If they are not, then you're either overweight or obese

Hahaha!

Life style modification alone doesn't cut it especially if your client has already commenced medication.

With a client doing above 170mmHg systolic or diastolic of 110mmHg and above, you have to be careful even with occasional normal BP.

As for having a stroke, it can happen at normal BP my guy.
Known hypertensive can have a stroke even at normal BP.

There are 2 types of strokes

The ischemic stroke from blockage of cerebral blood vessels

The Haemorrhagic stroke which is from ruptured cerebral blood vessels.

The ischemic type can occur at a normal BP and in many other conditions like in sicklers, blood disorders,Lipid disorders, etc

Hmmm!

Careful before someone develops a stroke whilst on your program!

You are tempting faith.

Do you really think we would advise our clients to go to the hospital if we wanted that to happen?

We sent her to the hospital so that her Doctor can see for himself and make his own decision that is best for her

And we obviously don't have any power over that,

And so you know, employing lifestyle modifications has a longer term effect on the body, even better than medications and it is highly encouraged, even in hospitals.

And again, nobody can develop a stroke from a BP of 120/80mmHg smiley. It is normal

Health / My Doctor Called Me A Liar! Here's Why by BPdoc: 11:55pm On Mar 01
A client of ours went to her hospital after joining our program,

She had been on our program for a few months now and has been diligently following all the instructions given to her,

Her High Bp started to drop gradually,

Even without medications

Eventually, we advised her to go to hospital to see if her Doctor can reduce her medications since they were of no real importance to her anymore

As she now knew that it was not the drugs that was giving her the result she was now getting,

Previously, she had been diagnosed with hypertension with a BP readings of 170/120mmHg (Stage 2 Hypertension)

Her medications only helped lower it to just 140/100mmHg( Stage 1 Hypertension)

So either way, she remained Hypertensive

She knew she had to do something about it and that was how she eventually found our program

Back to the story,

She later went to the hospital after seeing how well her BP had dropped

But guess what?!!

The Doctor DIDN'T BELIEVE HER!

He said her machine wasn't accurate, because her Bp read 120/78mmHg (Perfectly Normal)

After that, he decided to use the hospital's own

And guess what he found?

A BP readings of 120/80mmHg (The Perfect Standard)

Hahaha...

To cut the long story short,

This woman was able to achieve her normal BP not because of her drugs but because she decided to try out our NATURAL STRATEGY

Health / Can Taking Garlic Cure High Blood Pressure?! by BPdoc: 11:31pm On Feb 28
Are you curious?

If yes, then let's go

Of course, we all know that garlic is high in potassium and thus can help to counteract tha action of too much sodium in the body

It is highly recommended in the DASH diet( a world wide diet recommended for everyone diagnosed with hypertension)

But the thing is, how can you be taking garlic alone and expect your high BP to just obediently go down just like that?

It's not possible

Then why do people then bother themselves to buy drugs?

If High BP can go away just by taking garlic, everybody will stop buying drugs and go ahead and start taking only garlic, abi?

But it's not that simple

The reason you have been trying so many tips and recipes of different kinds and it's still not working for you is because you are not getting it right

There are many steps involved when trying to reverse High BP the natural way, not just about diet

You must involve your MIND, your DIET, and your BODY

All these must work hand in hand

Following just one strictly and neglecting the other aspect is a shear waste of time

Have you been diagnosed hypertensive and would like to know more about this NATURAL STRATEGY?

Continuation of previous post...

Pre-eclampsia is greater if any one of the following applies to the patient:

• It is her first baby or it is a baby with a new partner, particularly if the mother is younger than 19 or older than 40.
• If she had preeclampsia in a previous pregnancy.
• If her mother had preeclampsia.
• If she is carrying twins/more than one baby.
• If she is obese prior to pregnancy.
• If she had a pre-existing kidney disease before becoming pregnant.
• If she had high blood pressure before becoming pregnant.
• If she has diabetes with an associated complication such as kidney disease, nerve disease, or eye disease.

The following are symptoms associated with preeclampsia:

• Abdominal pain.
• Blurred vision/changes in vision.
• Excessive or rapid weight gain.
• Headache.
• Swelling.

Preeclampsia can occasionally degenerate into eclampsia, which is a lifethreatening condition.

Eclampsia is a hypertensive emergency that can give rise to serious health complications such as brain swelling, seizures, kidney failure, blood clotting disorders, pulmonary edema and blindness.

Do you know that High BP doesn't spare pregnancy?

No, it doesn't

There is a peculiar hypertension that can happens when a woman is pregnant

N:B- This doesn't happen in all women

It's a condition known as Pre-eclampsia

Pre-eclampsia is a potentially dangerous pregnancy complication characterised by high blood pressure.

Pre-eclampsia usually begins after 20 weeks of pregnancy in a woman whose blood pressure had been normal.

It can lead to serious, even fatal, complications for both mother and baby.

In very extreme cases, the mother might even be adviced to choose between her life and her baby in order to prevent loss of both parties

Usually, after pregnancy, Pre-eclampsia should go away completely after 12 weeks of pregnancy

But the thing is,

It is possible to have been hypertensive before the pregnancy but totally unaware about it,

When delay in lowering of high blood pressure is noticed after pregnancy,

It signifies that there have probably been Hypertension there before the pregnancy,

As a nursing or aspiring mother, it is advisable to monitor your blood pressure before and after pregnancy to prevent unforeseen circumstances

Health / A Tribe Called Judah (doctor's Review) by BPdoc: 10:33am On Feb 21
A Tribe Called Judah is a recent movie produced and released by Funke Akindele

Any person in the medical field would agree that she actually did a good job,

Let me give a brief summary,

In the movie, Jedidiah Judah was among the millions of Nigerians who are had hypertension but were totally unaware of it,

And during her difficult times, she resorted to drinking herbal alcohol excessively,

She saw it as a refuge to escape depression,

And from my previous posts, you should know by now that Excessive Alcohol Intake is poison to a person with hypertension,

But because she didn't even know she was hypertensive, so she kept using alcohol to escape reality

If she had known and had gone to the Hospital before, the doctor would have warned her about taking too much alcohol,

But she didn't,

Eventually, at the end, she ended up with Hypertensive Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD)/Renal failure,

The Hypertension hasld already killed her Kidneys,

CKD is just one of the many complications that High BP can cause,

You can check my previous post on "90% of people with hypertension later develop these Illnesses" to see other illnesses that High BP can cause,

Medically, what you usually notice when looking at someone with CKD is Swollen legs (pedal oedema) and facial puffiness,

And if you watched the movie, you would agree with me that Funke Akindele paid attention to these details,

Another thing to learn is that, her ignorance of her hypertension left her children with an Unexpected Weekly Medical Bill of N400,000 for Dialysis (artificial kidney)

So what is my advice to you today?

Know Your Numbers, Stop Wallowing In Ignorance!!

It will save you a lot of troubles.

I've met some people that have told me,

"BPdoc, I don't think this your Natural Strategy is for me, I'm not that consistent or dedicated. I'll just keep taking drugs"

Well, I just let them go, afterall medication is a alternative option

Although, it has a lot of side effects like Headaches, Tiredness, Dry cough, Impotence etc

But that's not my issue,

My issue is that it is still very possible to be consistent with your medications and still come down with complications,

Recently, I witnessed an 80+ year old woman who came in with a repeat stroke,

She has had a stroke the previous year and it had come back again,

We asked if she was hypertensive, her children said she was diagnosed with hypertension about 32 years ago,

We then asked if she was regularly with taking her drugs, her children said she had never missed a day since she started

Her children even buy her drugs from abroad and restocks a month before the drugs finishes,

But guess what?

Mama still developed a STROKE!

Not once, but TWICE!

When her children showed us her drugs, I counted about Ten different Antihypertensive tablets that she was taking,

Imagine, at that age?!

Still swallowing such large quantity of drug to prevent something that eventually happened,

So what am I saying,

Medications can do it, but is not 100% reliable,

If you don't back it up with a PROVEN lifestyle modification strategy, you might have yourself to blame

Health / 90% Of People With High BP Later Develop These Illnesses! by BPdoc: 11:53pm On Feb 18
High BP is not the enemy,

The enemies are the complications it brings

The reason why you shouldn't handle it lightly is because it has the ability to "Enlarge It's Coast"

What do I mean?

It attacks very vital and important organs within the body e.g Eyes, Brain, Heart, Liver, Blood Vessels etc

It is always doing something negative in the body, in the tissue, in the organs, in the cells

Constantly working,

That's why it is called a degenerative disease, it is always destroying something

Here is a list of a few complications that Hypertension can cause and the organs they attack in the body

• Cerebrovascular Accidents/Stroke (Brain)
• Retinopathy (Eyes)
• Peripheral Vascular Disease (Blood Vessels)
• Left Ventricular Hypertrophy (Heart)
• Transient Ischaemic Attack (Brain)
• Coronary Heart Disease (Heart Vessel)
• Heart Failure (Heart)
• Renal Failure/Chronic Kidney Disease (Kidney)
• Heart Attack Myocardial Infarction (Heart)
• Hypertensive Encephalopathy (Brain)
• Blindness (Eyes)
• Aortic Aneurysm (Aorta)
• Gangrene Of The Lower Extremities (Lower Lambs)
• Cerebral Hemorrhage (Brain)
• Preeclampsia/Eclampsia(Pregnancy)
•Portal Hypertension (liver)

Health / How I Lost My Kidneys In 2023! by BPdoc: 11:12pm On Feb 17
Mrs X, a 37 yr old teacher walked into the Doctor's office holding her scan result in her hand

After she was asked to sit, she laid her complaint to the Doctor

"I've done the scan you asked me to do last week, I hope everything is normal?! She asked, hoping to get a positive response

I know nothing's wrong with me sha, I just want to confirm so I can have peace of mind", she said with a laugh

The Doctor stared at her and said "Have you ever been diagnosed of hypertension?"

She looked up at the Doctor, her expression showing her displeasure of that question

"Yes, when I was pregnant last year", she said.

Have you been compliant with your medications?

Hmmmn....not really. After my drugs finished, my BP was okay then so since then, I've stopped taking it

Well...Mrs X, I'm sorry to tell you that you are at the 4th stage of Chronic Kidney Disease

Eehnn...Doctor, what do you mean by that?!, Her eyes widened at the news of her new predicament

I said you have been diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease which mean there's an irreversible damage to your Kidneys caused by your high blood pressure

Don't worry too much about it, we will put you on medication to ensure that your kidney doesn't reach the last stage (Renal failure) fast

Mrs X frowned,..."Are you saying that it's possible to still reach last stage(Renal failure) after taking medication?"

"I never said the medication will cure it, I said it will slow down the speed at which it gets to that stage", the Doctor replied calmly

"Yeaaaa, I'm finished".. Maria said as she placed her hands on her head, squeezing her turban vehemently

She looked up, her eyelash wet with tears.."So what will happen to my kidney at the end stage?!"

Your kidneys might no longer be able to produce urine so you would need to undergo a procedure known as *Dialysis* at least twice a week

Dialysis is like an artificial kidney. It's a machine that removes your blood from your body, filter and cleans the blood from toxic waste and simultaneously returns it back to your body, just like your kidney does.

Eehnn...and I'll be okay if I do it abi? I hope it's not expensive sha?...She asked anxiously

Well, I think that will depend on your financial status ma", He said

Really, like how much?!

I'm not really sure about the price now though, but last time, I heard it was about ₦55,000 and you'll need to do at least twice a week. So that's at least N110,000 every week ma, the Doctor said.

Eehnn...where did I want to see that kind of money every week in this useless economy?!

Ahhh...God punish Hypertension!!!...She exclaimed

...based on a true life story

Recently, I posted about the "Three Steps To Take Your Life Back From High BP" (check my previous post),

This very woman, took those three steps I talked about after seeing that she was getting dangerously high numbers on her BP Monitor

She didn't ignore it nor did she fold her hands and wait for it to come down like many of us do

She acted fast!

And after going through our program, she implemented what she learnt and got her BP back,

She ended up even dropping her drugs

A month later of her not her taking drugs, she sent us the first testimonial (Pic 1)

She was surprised that despite not taking her antihypertensive, her BP average was still 122/76, Very Perfect!!!

And Pic 2 is showing her latest testimonial after a year of not taking her antihypertensive,

Her BP is still very normal and she is so grateful she took her chance with us

Health / Recover Your Body Back From High BP In Three Steps! by BPdoc: 11:48pm On Feb 14
Step 1: Get out of the "denial" stage

Many people, once they check their BP and find out that it's high, they start rejecting it

Yes, it is normal to want to reject bad things

Like saying "God Forbid, High BP is not my portion, it is for my enemies"

Yes, reject it, fine!

But don't stop there, you must also do something about it

Faith without work, they say, is DEAD!

Step 2: Find a way to Crash it down quickly

This is were your DOCTOR comes in

If perhaps, you checked your BP and it shows a number above 140/90mmHg, then you have to find an immediate solution to it immediately

Why?

Because it is not high BP that kills, it is UNCONTROLLED HYPERTENSION that kills

A person with a very high and uncontrolled BP can be likened to a "walking corpse"

Everything would be looking fine but there's fire in the mountain

That why it's not uncommon to hear stories like "...she was just walking on the road and she just slump and died..."

Look closely, the person probably had a very high and uncontrolled BP

So if you notice you're getting really high numbers like 158/102mmHg,

Go to the hospital immediately and get your antihypertensive prescription to crash it down fast!

Step 3: Use a PROVEN natural strategy to back it up

Note, I didn't say natural medicine,

I said Natural strategy,

This means learning to reform your mind, your body and your lifestyle to repel Hypertension

If applied correctly, a time will come you'll no longer be in need of any drug

Cause you would have transformed your system and lifestyle to repel hypertension

And make sure the strategy is proven i.e it must have worked for hundreds and thousands of people in the past before you

And it is this particular "Natural Strategy" that you'll learn in our Free One Hour Video Coaching

*Laughs*

Funny right?

Well, the truth of the matter is that some people are afraid or maybe I should say "allergic" to hospitals

Being in the hospital just gives them this feeling of being sick, some people even hate the smell of hospitals

Now under this category, we have some people that their heart rate and blood pressure rises when they are in the hospital

You might ask, maybe they are in love with their Doctor?

No no no, this is not Nollywood

They're suffering from an health condition known as "White-coat hypertension"

This is a condition whereby a person BP reading in a clinical setting (Hospital/clinic/Healthcenter) is higher than when it is taken at home

This can cause the systolic blood pressure reading to be around 10 mm Hg higher and the diastolic blood pressure reading to be around 5 mm Hg higher than usual.

Have you probably noticed that you are showing signs of white coat hypertension?

Then, you have to first tackle the Hypertension with a Natural Strategy first before you can start dealing with it

This is quite a funny question,

But the truth is, I hear it a lot from people these days

Some people have categorised hypertension as an "Old People Disease"

Says who??!!!

It's true that Old age is a major risk factor but that doesn't mean young people don't develop high BP

Hypertension can happen in ANYONE,

Even Little Children, a term known as "Pediatric hypertension".

But this usually occur due to underlying health conditions like heart defects and kidney disease

Can it also happen in slim people?

Of course, why not?

Yes, we know that being overweight can predispose a person to having a higher risk of developing hypertension,

But this doesn't mean it can't happen in slim persons. A slim person with a bad lifestyle can develop hypertension just like anybody else

You can check my previous post on "Five Things You Shouldn't Do..." to know some of the modifiable lifestyle that can predispose a person to developing High BP

Health / Reasons You Shouldn't Watch AFCON Finals If You Have Hypertension by BPdoc: 2:51pm On Feb 11
We all know that Nigeria and Ivory Coast will be playing in the AFCON finals 2023 (2024)

So the tension is rising in both countries as the time of the match draws near

But some set of persons have been excluded from watching tonight's match

Why is that??

This is to prevent a recurrence of unfortunate events that occurred in the last match (Nigeria Vs South Africa)

Check image below

They include people that have had a stroke in the past, partial stroke, heart attack in the past and those that have uncontrolled hypertension

Why should you not watch the match if your BP is not controlled??

Football could cause the following events in the body:
1) Increased Heart rate
2) Increase in systolic and diastolic pressure
3) Increased release of Vasoactive hormones e.g adrenaline
4) Increased physical and emotional response
5) Strain on the heart and blood vessels

All these events listed above could lead to severe unfortunate occurrences like stroke, heart attack, repeat stroke or even death

So please let's be careful.
