A small start in rebuilding lost trust, but a good start nonetheless.

What about Borno muslims, especially since BH originated from there?

I'm 4rm abia state but its very unfortunate that my igbo brodas can allow "ethnicity" and naira 2 becloud their sense of reasoning. . .
our brodas r massacred in d north without d weakling of a president doing nada and instead of seizing this opportunity 2 vent their anger they keep mute. . .very unfortunate

Mr. Globe:

Sellouts

Thanks philip0906 and Mr. Globe. May be a a good number of Eastern leaders were paid-off, and that will explain why Igbo top-shots are not supporting FSR.

But GEJ can't buy the common man in all Eastern states.

Igbos are naturally egalitarian, independently-minded people who are not easily led by their noses by their leaders. So, even if their leaders are "settled", the people will still protest.

It appears that the common man in Eastern Nigeria does not identify. Why?
Politics / Why Is Eastern Nigeria Silent On Fuel Subsidy Removal? by canuck(m): 11:26am On Jan 13, 2012
Without degenerating into another NL tribal conflict can anyone please proffer reasons why Eastern Nigeria is apathetic, indifferent and sometimes in direct opposition to the ongoing protests against fuel subsidy removal (FSR) by the Federal Government?

An Eastern senator actually tagged the ongoing strike action as a "Lagos thing".

Even minority Eastern states (Cross Rivers, etc) are towing the same line. There's got to be cogent reasons.

Are the market conditions different east of River Niger? I ask because every Igbo person I know who resides in Western Nigeria is either on the streets protesting, actively raising material support (like water, etc) for protesters, or expressly supporting the ongoing civil protests. Also, Lagos-based Igbo commentators are constantly on TV making a highly intelligent case for the reversal of FSR.

It is perplexing to me as the struggle is based on a nationwide policy that impacts everyone.

While I understand that there is never 100% support for a civil agitation in histrory books, this block indifference concerns me.

Eastern Nigerians are generally principled people who stand up for what is right. Do they see FSR as right? Or are they just battle weary?

Does anyone know why?

Again, please avoid bigotory remarks - I know that's asking for too much from some people on NL, but make una try small, abeg.

But wait o, reading all the posts so far, there is no case of:

1) GF/BF snatching

2) He wowed her with his money/flashy car

3) 2nd of 3rd wife

4) He was her driver/messenger/junior @ work and they fell in love

5) Overseas love via photos and phone calls until a few days to wedding proper

I think the meaning of what he is trying to say was lost in translation.

Sunni muslims, majority of which muslims in Nigeria are, believe in preordained destiny. Sunni muslims believe that every action and every thing that happens whether good or bad has been preordained by God from the beginning of time till the end of time. No one can escape their destinies.
It was quite insensitive for him to make such statements since most non-muslims might take the meaning out of context but I doubt if he had any malicious intentions.

I hear you! Why did the yeye Yuguda marry Yar'Adua's daughter to consolidate power and not leave his political career to destiny?

"Destiny" is the weapon of the northern ruling class over almajiris! "Don't go to school; it is your destiny. Don't acquire a commercial skill; it is your destiny. You are made poor by destiny. I and my family are made rich by destiny. Destiny has spoken!"

Politics / Bauchi Gov Yuguda: Murdered Corp Members Were "Destined" To Die! Shikena! by canuck(m): 12:45pm On Apr 29, 2011

The Governor of Bauchi State, Malam Isa Yuguda, stunned journalists at the Government House, Bauchi, on Thursday when he said he too was attacked as a member of the National Youth Service Corps in Ibadan.

Yuguda reasoned that the corps members, who were murdered last week in the state, only fulfilled their destinies.

He spoke just as the rescheduled governorship and National Assembly elections in the state was characterised by low turnout of voters.
Addressing journalists after casting his vote at Shadawanka Primary School, the governor blamed the Independent National Electoral Commission for not providing adequate security for the corps members.

Yuguda was reacting to a question that bordered on the brutal murder of non-indigenes, including at least nine corps members, in his domain when rioters overran the state after President Goodluck Jonathan was declared winner of the presidential election. Over 50 people were reportedly killed during the violence while 90 churches were also burnt.

He said, “They (corps members) were destined to experience what they experienced. Nobody can run away from destiny. When they were serving me, they were the happiest in Nigeria.“Immediately I handed them over to INEC, it was the responsibility of INEC to protect them. They were not the only ones affected. My own house was burnt; they almost lynched my first son. It is part of their destiny. I was also attacked as a corps member in Ibadan in 1979.

“They were attacked on the services of INEC.”

The governor, who said what happened should not be seen as a reflection of the state, declared that the state should be commended for having the best brains in security management.

He described the development as unfortunate, saying the victims were serving the nation during the attack.

He said, “What happened last week was a tragedy, with the killing of Christians, Muslims, burning of churches, mosques and the destruction of innocent people’s property. But what happened in Bauchi is far less than what happened in some other states. What happened in Bauchi only lasted for one day.”

Of all the nations that experienced colonization in their history - US, Great Britain, France, 'old' Israel, Canada, Brazil, Finland - just to mention a few, why is it that we African nations are predominantly under-developed BECAUSE of colonization?

E.g. Nigeria has had various forms of self-rule in almost 50 years to no avail.

May be we put aside national pride, fire the losers (political class) and hire expatriates!  cheesy

This time, it won't count as colonization BUT outsourcing!  grin
