For all my peeps who want to learn and acquire all the cg tutorials and software and in the world for free just do a quick Google search of Cg Persia or Cg peers then come back and thank me; though you'll need good internet and enough data to download smiley

dhtml18: You guys should google goat simulator (for real). It has a website I think www.goat-simulator.com - the guy just made it for fun, and people love it, downloads don plenty sef, now they are planning to take it to ios and beyond.

lol, I've heard and seen some vids of the game; it's quite extremely silly. It's from the makers of sanctum 1 and 2. I heard the game sold quite well, I think they even raised enough money to fund like 2 other projects.

blueyedgeek: Additionally, you don't have to limit yourself to the Nigerian market alone. I don't see other game developers limiting themselves to just one country alone.

This post is so on point, I believe Most Nigerians play popular console games from Big AAA publishers (FIFA, COD, GTA, e.t.c) or casual mobile games on their phones and tablets (Angry birds, Fruit Ninja, Temple Run). If you want to reach a wider audience I suggest you think big and go beyond borders. Visit a lot of Indie game dev sites like Tig Source, gamastura e.tc. Start a dev log and show some progress. If you're game is good enough you are bound to get covered and recognized by one of those game news outlets; The beauty of it all is that they cover games from all over the world.

You could also release it on steam (which seems to be the biggest PC's biggest game distribution platform). However in order to get on steam you'll probably have to pay a deposit fee of 99USD after which you can upload as many games as you want. Before games can go on sale on steam, they are put up for the community to see and vote and If people like your game enough, you're in(The game doesn't even have to be complete yet). You'll also have to fill some legal forms and stuff bla, bla (withholding tax), bla, bla lol.

Another option is try to release it for free as a shareware game; cave story is a perfect example of this. It was made by a single person over a span of 5 years, and yet he decided to release it for free. The game became quite popular until eventually Nintendo got a hold of the guy and offered to release it on their consoles (I think it's been remastered twice).

Last but not least, If you have the cash, you could form your own game company and get some devkits from SONY(PS3, PS4, PS VITA), or Microsoft(XBOX). Both have decided to become more Indie friendly so it's way much easier to get a dev kit from these guys.
I think a Dev kit for the PS Vita costs around 1900 euros which is around 405,974 Naira which is quite cheap compared to those days when the Devkit for a PSP or PS2 was between 20 000 - 25000 euros (4,273,410 - 5,341,760); Yikes. If they like you enough, they might even form a partnership with you and publish it (Physical copies) or you could self publish on PSN.

There are a ton of other options out there. You could release it on a web platform which supports ads, you could also host it on your own website with ads, you could also distribute it for free and have it link back to your site where people can donate or something; It all depends on what you want.

Personally, I believe you should just focus on making a fun game in your spare time and worry about the financial stuff later(The market is incredibly saturated and competitive since everyone and their mums are making games these days). Release something, get some experience and create a name for yourself.

Programming / Re: Nigerian Game Development: What's Happening? by Chuksxy: 7:48pm On Aug 12, 2014
Zarama7: Lack of resources and support is a major problem. Games need team work and very high quality games need money

Money shouldn't really be an issue if one is really passionate about game development, I believe dedication, effort and time is enough.

dhtml18:
That is another thing again, Nigerian developers seem to have issues with working as a team. And also, anything that will not bring immediate money is a No, No for them mostly.

The one man thing is also quite true and in fact a big problem. I've tried to work with other devs (both Nigerian and foreign) but at the end, most people just aren't serious enough, I realized that I can only rely on myself to get the job done; because of this, I've learnt quite a lot over the past 2 years. I will eventually make a game, not because I plan to make money of it or to prove some silly point but mainly because I'm passionate about it.

To be Honest I think It's because some of us are just ignorant. We are always trying to Create the next 3D AAA game and in the process forget that those Kind of games are made by Hundreds of professionals over a span of 2 - 4 years. I propose we start small and think more like Indie devs which we are and try to create something totally different and Small in scope.

Ok you win prof, Count me in.

Software of Choice is Blender and Zbrush.

Sadly I'll have to pull out of the competition. That concept is pretty amazing and at the same time incredibly complex. I'll probably participate in the Animation challenge though.

Whoa!! shocked

This is going to be one heck of a challenge. At this rate I might have to sculpt in Z brush. *sigh*

O.O Prof....mentioned me...... *Faints*.

On a serious note though, I'll gladly participate when this is finally set up. I haven't done CG in a while and this may be the push I need. So please guys hurry up and Finalize this.

Hey man. I'm volunteering to help out on the game. I could model, texture, rig and animate. My 2d skills aren't that great, but I could also do some concept art.

Some of my 2d stuff:
mock ups and concept art I made for a fan game a while ago.

Programming / 2d Top Down Game Looking For Members by Chuksxy: 12:57am On Jun 29, 2014
Hello people.
Unfortunately for me, all of the posts and threads I made this year are gone forever. On the bright side, I have decided to use this opportunity to start work on a totally new 2d project. I'm hoping I can recruit more members to work on this project with me.

The game is hopefully going to be a 2d top down Rpg something similar to the top down zelda games. Since the game would be 2d, it can probably be completed since the work load isn't that much unlike 3d games.

Here are some mock ups I made to give you guys an idea of what I had in mind

So if anyone is interested just notify me

Quick animation test I did today in blender. I tried to fool around with blender's Particle effects. Took me around roughly 7 hours to get the whole thing done. I'm trying my best to animate everyday. lol

Definitely dark souls, demon souls, ninja gaiden sigma and the original super mario Bros on the SNES . I barely managed to finished demon souls -_-. Still playing dark souls though. This game drives me insane but I still love it. Currently stuck at Dragon slayer Ornstein and Executioner smough. Those guys are the hardest bosses in the game. Any tips on how to beat these guys? cos I've died there so much I've lost count.

Wow. That was amazing. The Vfx was so, so very professional. you guys are awesome shocked. To be honest I do most of my 3d stuff in my spare time and it's just a hobby. I don't have a resume or portfolio or anything at all. I would however like to help you guys out with your next film.

Art, Graphics & Video / Re: Animators Advice Needed by Chuksxy: 2:34pm On Sep 27, 2013
Ahh Flash. Such an awesome piece of software indeed. If you're already familiar with other Adobe software packages, navigating flash should be a breeze.
As for animation well, most peeps have already advised you to get that sexy animation book "The animators survival kit by Richard Williams". That book is simply amazing. You should also get this book as well "The illusion of life".That's another great book.

As for Flash tutorials I advise you open YouTube and find this guy "draw with Jazza" he has some amazing flash tuts as well as tools.

For competitions, critique, inspiration e.t.c, do a quick google search for "11 second club" They host monthly animation competitions and lots of people compete ranging from complete noobs to bad ass veterans of the industry with 20+ years experience. you can always ask the pros to give you a few pointers and honest critique. They love helping beginners out.

you should also learn figure drawing as well. Most people don't know how important this stuff is when it comes to animation. People should be able to read the silhouettes of your characters easily if you want your animation to have life. Draw tons of characters in lots and lots of different poses. If you aren't that good at drawing human figures, you can always use stick figures instead. you'd be surprised at what you can accomplish with these guys. As a matter of fact there is even a large community based around stick figure animation. For stick figure tuts and stuff, search for this guy on YouTube "Flyingpanda1990". by the way he also uses flash.

and last but not least. practice, practice, practice. The more you animate the better you become.

I myself i'm still trying to learn this beautiful art form. It was tough when I started out and stuff but I've gotten quite better. Although, it was my fault since I decided to jump into 3d animation first without learning 2d. The 12 principles still apply to both, however, the way they are implemented is quite different. A foundation in 2d animation really helps when it comes to 3d stuff. I myself i'm trying to learn 2d animation in flash. Too bad I cant show you all the short 2d and 3d anims I've made (mostly different walk cycles, runs, jumps, e.t.c).
Lol sorry for this long post; I'm just really passionate about animation. grin

Well I haven't made anything in blender for quite a while so I finally decided to just dive in and do something. (THIS IS STILL A WIP)
I started this like a few days ago. I decided to make a Knight-mare frame in Blender.
Knight-mare frames a sick, bad ass, killer robots found in an anime called "Code geass" (lol. i'm pretty sure Most Nigerians don't even know what anime is)

Anyway, I'm still blocking out the main shapes though. I haven started work on the details yet. when i'm done i'm going to unwrap, texture, rig and render this properly in Cycles. I'll probably release the blend file for download as well if anyone wants to use the model. I'll post my progress here.
So here are some quick renders with blender internal.

thanks guys for all the helpful replies. My dad as well used his company's bank statements when my elder bro applied for a visa back in 2011 and my brother got the visa. However, a family friend of mine applied last year with his dad's company's bank statement but was refused. so I myself i'm quite scared. on the other hand my family friend didn't pay his fees but my dad did when my bro applied. I have no choice but to go ahead and submit my application. I cant transfer the remaining 2200 pounds and wait for another 28 days. Wish me luck guys. if i get it i'll make sure i inform you guys. smiley

It is only £1000 dat would be deducted 4rm ur accomodation fees dat U hav paid to b counted as maintenance so U shuld hav £6200
Thank you very much for the reply. Sadly I have only 4000 pounds in my account so I'm 2200 short and my dad mainly makes use of his company's account as his personal account and I don't think he has another account. And it's too late for him to transfer money to my account since I'll have to wait another 28 days before I can apply again, 15 working days before the visa comes out and my resumption date is September 14. My dad has also provided a letter stating that he has allowed me to make use of the funds as well as stating that he's my sponsor. He also plans to provide my birth certificate as well. Should we just take the risk and proceed........ cry

Hey guys I need help concerning my visa application. My dad owns a company and He is the sole signatory to the account. so we plan on using the bank statements for his company. my tuition fees have also been paid as well as my accommodation fees. My dad also set up an account for me (it holds around roughly 4000 pounds) I also plan to submit the bank statement for this as well. The Money has also been held for the 28 day period. I've also filled the forms and have all my necessary documents ready. I'm 18 by the way and got admission into the university of Manchester. Is there a chance of a refusal.........please can someone help me out here..... cry

@ 2buff thank you very much. I would also try to reduce the polys(triangle count) even further. I was planning to add a facial rig to these guys so I decided to spare more tris for the face so it can deform better. Unfortunately, Max Bone count for most mobile Platforms is around 75 bones so in the end it wasn't actually worth it lol.

Art, Graphics & Video / Some Of My 3d Stuff. (mostly Low Poly Stuff) by Chuksxy: 10:56pm On Apr 11, 2013
Hey guys, (First Post)
I didn't even know that some Nigerians did 3d stuff. I'm so happy grin, I feel much at home now.
well I got into 3d some time in June last year and I wanted to just post some of the stuff I've done. All of these models were made in blender, I tried using max as well as maya but I just love blender because of its simplicity and all of its many many features.

so first on my list is a couple of low poly game models I made. I just woke up one day and was like "I'm going to make a video game grin" oh well after reality gave me a couple of hot slaps I pulled the plug on this since I couldn't program to save my life lol. The concept of the game was a group of secondary school kids with powers going up against some dark forces. I went for a stylized approach(KH style) due to the large influence anime and Jrpgs have had on my life.

This guy is rigged. One of my supposed main characters.
two 512*512 diffuse textures only
5320 polys

the others aren't rigged though.
another main character
Specs: 6100 polys, two 512*512 diffuse textures only

another guy. just an edit of the first one
5400 polys, two 512*512 diffuse textures only

after that failed, I decided to collab with some foreign guys I met on the unity forums to make another game.
due to timezone differences and other stuff. I decided to drop out of that as well. here's one of the characters I made.

This render was a tribute to Nhazul on stick page(you can check out his animations on YouTube as well as Hyun another badass stick figure animator. while there you can also look up Mounty Oum. He's a very talented 3d animator). Nhazul (Matt Benedict) is a badass stick figure animator and I'm a big fan of stick figures killing each other senselessly. This was done to practice rendering and lighting.
rendered in cycles, 1000 samples, full GI. Total render time 4 hours 32 minutes. I was too lazy to alter the poses of the other guys lying on the ground. tongue.

This is some model I made to practice High poly modelling. Rendered in cycles to practice more lighting. 700 samples 2 hours
original concept by some guy called Cassisdy.(one of the foreign dudes I worked with)

my 4th or 6th 3d model, I cant really remember.

low poly model of a stick figure I made. 3740 polys. one 512*512 diffuse texture.
All rigged. He even has a facial rig set up.

I decided to give digital painting a shot after browsing through deviant art. This was done in Photoshop using a Wacom Intuos 5 tablet. First try at environmental painting.

I still have a ton of models on my system though. I'll probably update this later. smiley.
Cnc would be appreciated.
