I'm sure people like Napoleon go don bail out LONG TIME or not even bought into the sham called Transcorp. I wonder how "investors" buy into a company without historical/financial data. Oh well, we have cowboys controlling corporate entities and the sheep following without direction.

Politics / Re: Pictures From Niger Delta by cmi(m): 1:10pm On Feb 01, 2008

The fact that the Niger Delta region that produces this revenue is one of the poorest regions in the world may be news especially to Nigerians, majority of whom, outside the Niger Delta do not know the situation on the ground. The Niger Deltans out of frustration have resolved to control their own resources (and rightly so) and they are called militants. If demanding what is rightly yours makes you a militant, then should it not be so? Imagine if this crude oil was in Northern Nigeria, will ‘Derivation’ (Resource Control) not be a major factor in revenue sharing in Nigeria.

Do you really believe they are sincerely fighting for the people  My brother, there are cabals everywhere.  The inherent selfishness in human beings will not make them see the bigger picture - one rich man amongst a mass of impoverished people will have no peace!

I have decided, wherever possible, to pictorially present my opinions on the Nigerian situation, for a picture represents a thousand words, it graphically brings home to readers the real situation, as it is, on the ground. The real deal.

Bros, the real deal is that we lack sincere servant leaders in our country.  Niger Delta, Northern Nigeria, Western Nigeria or Eastern Nigeria - most of our leaders are "long throat" leaders.  Only interested in self and immediate circle of friends or family.

Business / Re: Wema Bank by cmi(m): 6:37pm On Jan 23, 2008
@bomboyi and tosruyi - the following gives you an insight into the events at Wema Bank.

Wema Bank Plc - Update

A new Ag. Group Managing Director has been appointed for Wema Bank Plc. He is Mr. John O. Aboh, Executive Director (Banking Operations & Services) of First Bank of Nigeria Plc.

He held his first meeting with members of staff this morning. As predicted by analysts, this is the clearest signal that the former GMD is not coming back irrespective of the outcome of the investigation as the CBN/NDIC are not known to take such steps unless they are convinced that there exist good grounds to excuse the helmsman.

Born on July 18, 1956. Mr. Aboh holds a B.Sc. degree in Finance and MBA in Finance & Accounts. He has over the years acquired special skills in Structural International Trade Transactions, Computer Literacy and People Management.

He has also attended several proficiency-enhancing courses within and outside Nigeria. A seasoned Banker, Mr. Aboh began his Banking Career in 1981 in First Bank of Nigeria Plc. He worked as Credit Analyst, Assistant General Manager and as Deputy General Manager & Chief Inspector in Nigeria Merchant Bank Limited, Nigeria International Bank (Citibank) and UBA Plc respectively.

Notable special projects executed by Mr. Aboh include the reorganisation of International Operations System at Nigeria International Bank (Citibank) and the Implementation of the UBA MoneyGram Money Transfer Service. He is now Executive Director (Banking Operations & Services) at First Bank. He is married with children.

The appointment of John Aboh, finally seals the fate of Mr. Adebisi Omoyeni whom we understand has a number of corporate governance and management issues to answerfor based on the factual disclosures made available to us which appear weighty and raises serious concerns over the reliability of the financial data made available to the public.

I sincerely don't see anyone buying Wema Bank shares now except the person has privileged information. It makes me wonder at times if the integrity of most Nigerian Bank GMD's can be sustained. What with all the competition, braggado and claim to be No. 1 Bank, Biggest Bank, Most Customer Friendly Bank, and whatever title or adjective they want to add - this will make some of them resort to underhand methods in order to achieve such appended titles.

@kpineo - d report was released last week and can be viewed on http://www.mcgraw-hill.com/releases/sandp/20080111.shtml. I hope our dear NSE continues to fire on to the lovely blue skies in the nearest and furthest future.

FatherOf2 thanks - highly appreciated. However, I see you are an optimist and gently share your optimism (with a pinch of garlic).

If we consider the human resource we have in our dear fatherland, then I agree wholeheartedly there is no comparison. We are happy-going and a superior breed of people. However, so much is holding the G I A N T S back. We shall surely overcome. Up Nigeria!!!

FatherOf2 - hope you are enjoying your jet flight (I pray it doesn't land like Gordon Brown's jet landed an hour ago) - pls what is your take on LawUnion? It seems to be steaming ahead unrelentlessly. Do u think it is as solid as the price and analysis show or it is just market sentiment?

Kindly share ur tots. Best regards

Hello All,

very interesting and informative topic you've got here - much kudos!

Can anyone enlighten me regarding using multiple stockbrokers in Nigeria - I have a number of CSCS numbers.  Is it possible to merge all these into one? i.e. paying the annual subscription fee of N2,500 on one account rather than N2,500 * the no of CSCS accounts I have.

Thank you and may Year 2008 and beyond bring fulfilment, progress and peace to us all, Ashe Edumare.

Thank you for information shared @easimoni.  What is your experience with LeadCapital? Are they prompt when it comes to sell/buy mandates? Will you recommend them to your close pal or your enemy? cheesy  Best regards and forever Northwards, may your investments head.
Business / Re: 23% Margin Trading, 3% Flat Fee by cmi(m): 7:59am On Dec 22, 2007
Mr. Easimoni thanks - I appreciate d way you expanded on the issue and shared your own experience.

In the first case - can you pls recommend the broker that offered you 21% with 2% management fee?
As regards picking stocks that will outperform the market - I also believe this can be achieved by doing one's research well, seeking other "eggheads" opinion, adding all together, sifting through before making a final decision. Most importantly, praying that the "market heads north" for majority of your investments.

Another point I ought to have disclosed is that the bank/brokerage firm is offering my friend N12M, his own stake/collateral is N6M portfolio value.
Do you think the rate of interest given varies depending on amount a client is willing to put down?

Once again, thank you for sharing your thoughts - makes one explore deeper within d white cells before taking the step.
Business / 23% Margin Trading, 3% Flat Fee by cmi(m): 6:39pm On Dec 21, 2007
A friend wants to trade with the conditions given above.

1. Do you think conditions in the market look positive enough for him to pay back capital borrowed, interest and make at least 25% gain in the short (6months) to medium (1yr) term? He is only interested in capital appreciation of the selected stocks.

He wants to focus on the Banking, Insurance and Food & Beverages sector. He intends to pull out of any stock once he's achieved a set percentage growth and plough it back into another one.

2. Do you think the cost (buy and sell fees/commission) of turning around the funds will outweigh the gain? Kindly brain storm with me. Your ideas will be highly valued.
Politics / Re: "didn't Approve Africom In Nigeria", Says Yar'adua by cmi(m): 8:30am On Dec 16, 2007
I'm happy to read this article - however, a lot of media reports should be taken with a bowl of salt - dem too formulate. I was sad when I read a report of Yaradua's visit to America where they said he agreed to them setting up AFRICOM, considering his opposition to the base after the FEC meeting in Nigeria. What a somersault or backflip I thought. I pray our government and other African govt's don't allow America to set up base in Africa.
One thing that the report also said that I felt didn't bode well was that they claimed Yaradua said "he will never forget this moment in his life" i.e. visiting America - Is America paradise? I asked myself, but as usual some journalists could be parrots.
Politics / What Is Wrong With Being Black? By Matthew Ashimolowo - Anyone Read D Book? by cmi(m): 8:21am On Dec 16, 2007
Any fan or admirer of Bob Marley, Fela Kuti, 2pac, Wole Soyinka, Kwame Nkrumah, etc., etc. will agree that this book is expounding on what they have preached and also what it means to be a black person.  Perhaps many of our people will wake up to realise that our ancestors are GREAT and NOBLE people.
The fact that a pastor of a very big church in the UK authored the book will help open the minds and eyes of many people to some of the facts in this book and the history of BLACK AFRICA, unshackle the minds that believe anything African/Black is negative and free us from the many anecdotes relating to Africa and the Oyinbo man.  One Ghanaian friend told me that in his village there is this belief that when you leave your house on the way to church and meet an Oyinboman on the road - go back home cos you have seen God!
Many of our educated elites and leaders will want to make the average man on the street in Nigeria believe that somebody like Baba70 is an "amugbo" expounding nonsense.  Our honorable Pastor has taken the crusade further - I ask myself - could it be that the katakata the British govt is giving our man is one of the reasons he decided to put pen to paper now?  (I do agree that he is an educator and has published many educative and Christians), but as a critical human being, this came to mind when I read the book.

You can request for detailed business research reports from companies in Nigeria before you commit your capital to an investment at home. A company I have dealt with is Project for Entrepreneurs - one of their guys writes such articles, which is published occasionally by the Guardian Newspaper in Gidi. However, remember to be a Nigerian in action and in dealing with people.

All the best.
