I just have one question. What has PDP done so far ? we need a change in this country. Unless we want the same set of people to be in power.(OBJ etc) If we refuse to nip it in the bud asap , we will still be talking about this in next 10 years. Let  us all think about our future. Peace!

I read this post and  i must say its all about Patrotism. It is evident that most poeple that will support Obama statement are not . It is okay for us to wash our own dirty linen and i agree we have problem with this issue. personally i am not proud of what some Nigerians are doing , but it is very uncalled for for some one else to just trash the country like that without having a good understanding of how things work in Nigeria. You need to live here and see what is going on. Big question to all nairaland folks how many people  care for Nigeria without any self interest? why is it that we allow evil to overtake all the other good things that is coming out of NIGERIA. We all need to wake up and remember if you live in USA, EUROPE etc you are still a dang Foreigner even after you get their citizenship. Believe that!!!Nigeria is our root let us all join forces and bring our glory back . If we all put our energy into it will happen. As for OBAMA presidency expect NOTHING GOOD to come out of it for Nigerians at home and abroad. I wish him well , and i want him to be the president but my brothers and sisters we all need to work together to take our country back . The way i see it we are working against eachother and this will not help anybody. We need to change our ATTITUDE about where we are from. If the so called western world didnt hold their stuff down we wont be running there, lets uphold our country , don't let any country intimidate us we are far better than that.
Politics / Re: Nigerian Citizens And Future Must Be Protected! by Colonia(m): 8:24pm On Apr 24, 2008
its about time we all wake up and smell the coffee. i agree with you BIG B1 , we need to wake up and not sell our children future . Bunch of technicians from foreign countries come to Nigeria to become respected engineers. we need to redirect our energy onto something that will prosper the country. Do you ever wonder why the united states have not reached an agreement regarding immigration? go figure, once you allow others to dictate the economic strenght you will have to dance to their tune for ever. The Nigerian government can actually utilize lots and lots of opportunities that we have , by inviting foreign workers to work ALONGSIDE Nigerian counterparts. Not just kissing up to anybody light skin.( Oyinbo mentality). We should empower ourselves to be independent and be able to mingle with anybody oyinbo or no oyinbo. There are many highly skilled Nigerians all over the world that are just wasting away. I am not a racist but we should not be a second class citizen in our own country. Nigeria is ours , we cannot claim UK , US even if you have their honorary citizenship. Lets keep it real you will always be a foreigner elsewhere

What did OBJ spend on PHCN?

*CBN tells Reps $4.8bn
*Accountant-General says $3.7bn
*PHCN says $3.8bn
*Reps ask PHCN to refund N355bn

THE House of Representatives Committee on Power which is probing Federal Government’s expenditure on the Power Sector in the eight years of the Obasanjo administration has directed the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) to refund N355 billion to government for non-existent power projects it claimed to have executed across the country during the period.

On the second day of the probe hearing yesterday, the Central Bank (CBN) and the Office of the

ObasanjoAccountant-General of the Federation presented conflicting figures of monies said to have been released to the PHCN for various projects.

PHCN to refund N355bn to Govt

The company, according to the Committee Chairman, Mr. Ndudi Elumelu, will refund N207.92 million for jobs not executed at the Egbin power station but for which payments were made. He also directed that a total sum of N5.50 billion be refunded in respect of the Delta Thermal station and another N347 billion in respect of non-existent projects at Egbin thermal stations for the same period. For Affam power station, the amount to be refunded is N4.24 billion.

Conflicting figures on money released to PHCN in 8 years

And while the CBN said it released $4.8 billion to the PHCN between 1999 and 2007, the AGF said its record showed $3.7 billion was released to the company and $3.067 billion for the National Integrated Power Projected (NIPP).

But, the Coordinator of PHCN, Alhaji Shuibu Maigida, startled the committee when he maintained that PHCN actually received a total sum of $3.8 billion during the period.

The Committee Chairman praised the AGF for keeping a clearer record on the disbursement of funds on the power sector, saying his account corroborated that of the Ministry of Power.

The Accountant-General of the Federation, Mr Ibrahim Dankwabo, gave a breakdown of money ploughed to the PHCN from 1999 to 2008 in a table.

I just saw this
Probe N370m power deal now, AC taks govt
The Action Congress (AC) has called on the Yar'Adua administration to immediately order a probe of the country's power sector expenditure between 1999 and 2007, following the revelation that the Obasanjo administration awarded a N370-million contract to a blacklisted German firm. In a statement issued in Abuja, its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said the revelation, during an ongoing hearing by the House of Representatives Committee on Power and Steel, provides a litmus test for the current administration's fight against corruption and its rule of law mantra. It also said there was no doubt that the revelation was just a tip of the iceberg in terms of the cloudy deals in the country's critical power sector under Obasanjo, considering the sorry state of the sector which is now in a worse shape than the former administration met it. The AC said it is important that the German firm, Lameyer, be investigated for failing to execute the contract for which it had already collected money; be made to immediately refund the money collected; and finally, be blacklisted, as the World Bank has reportedly done.

Politics / Icpc Names Adedibu’s Son In Mapo Hall Contract Scandal by Colonia(m): 7:19am On Feb 14, 2008
ICPC names Adedibu’s son in Mapo Hall contract scandal - To be quizzed in Abuja next week - They have nothing to hide, says Adedibu
From Lanre Adewole, Adeolu Adeyemo and Tope Abiola - 14.02.2008

A son of a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, Alhaji Lamidi Adedibu, Jubril, has been fingered as the beneficiary of the controversial Mapo Hall renovation contract and the scam allegedly surrounding the award of the contract has led to his invitation by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). Jubril, according to a credible source, would be interrogated at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja next Tuesday alongside the Oyo State Director of Works.

The commission also interrogated the former Commissioner for Works, Chief Kolawole Balogun, over the alleged scandal at its headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday. Balogun, who was sighted when released by the investigators, is listed to be back for more interrogation after Jubril and the Works Director might have taken their turn next week.

Balogun, now Commissioner for Commerce, was the Works’ Commissioner when the contract was awarded by the administration of Governor Bayo Alao-Akala during the 11 months he was governor when former governor Rashidi Ladoja was impeached. The commission’s investigators had last Wednesday in Ibadan quizzed the state’s commissioners for Works and Finance as well as the Accountant General over the Mapo contract scandal.

The Director of Works, who was also quizzed in Ibadan, reportedly fingered Jubril as the contractor that was awarded the controversial renovation contract, which the Nigerian Tribune source in the commission said had been established to be inflated. The source added that the commission had almost concluded investigation into the matter, with those having strong cases against them to be prosecuted.

The state commissioners for Commerce, Finance, and Local Government, Dr. Kola Balogun, Adebayo Bankole, Hosea Agboola respectively and the Accountant General, Mrs. Florence Okeniyi, had earlier been interrogated by the commission last week on the contract saga by the officials of the commission. “The case file of the commissioners were forwarded from Ibadan and they are to be reporting to Abuja for further enquiry on the contract. On the matter, the Commissioner for Local Government was in Abuja on Monday while the two others are to appear before the anti-graft agency over the alleged inflation of the contract,” the sources said.

The commissioners have been reporting at the ICPC office in Ibadan since last week over their alleged roles in the award of the renovation contract. When contacted on the matter, the Head of Public Enlightenment of the commission, Mr. Mike Sowe, said that the person in charge was not around to give an update on the matter. He refused to comment on it. Speaking on the development, the Special Adviser on Public Communication to the state governor, Mr. Dotun Oyelade, described the story as untrue, but explained that some commissioners went to Abuja to attend a micro-finance workshop organised by the Central Bank of Nigeria and not on any invitation by the ICPC.

Oyelade further said that “You will recall that some anti-graft operatives came to the state last week on a fact-finding mission based on the allegation made by some faceless individuals on the matter. Some commissioners fielded questions on it at that time and I am not aware that they are in Abuja for another round of interrogation on the matter.” The contract, valued at N179.2 million was awarded to HUA Engineering Limited, a construction company. The contract was awarded in 2006, with Ladoja accusing his former deputy of underhand dealings in the award of the contract.

Governor Akala, in defending the renovation, had claimed that financing it was a joint effort between the state government and the 11 local governments in Ibadanland. While reacting, Chief Adedibu said “the Mapo hall is there for everybody to see. The ICPC is free to visit the Mapo hall and see if the charges did not merit the renovation of the hall.

They have nothing to hide, they can come to Ibadan to see it.” Adedibu, who spoke through one of his aides, Alhaji Lukman Agboluaje, said that “it is true that some people wrote a petition against Jubril Adedibu on the contract he took from the state government at the sum of N170 million.” He explained that the petitioners alleged that Adedibu took the contract at the sum of N400 million, which he described as a lie.

He added that the total amount of money to be collected from the state government by Adedibu was N142 million after the deduction of VAT and tax.
