If a full budget app/site is too much of a goal (or budgit or others already do it too well),
you could just turn the existing excel files into csvs and put it up at CSV49 (github.com/olibenu/csv49).

CSV49 forgives you for wasting productive human hours reinventing the wheel provided you prevent the next developer from doing the same.

The data:
+If it took your time and can take that of others.
+If it won't change anytime soon or get obsolete in the next second.
+If it is Nigerian.
Then by all means, put it up!

We already have
CSV1: States codes and geopolitical zones by @olibenu
CSV2: Geopolitical zones by @olibenu
CSV3: States, LGAs and Geolocation by @kehers
CSV4: GSM Network Providers Phone Number Prefixes by @olibenu and @pystar

first of all, attention span online is low. be careful when you make long posts
secondly, I don't know about Rochas now but he didn't pay me when I was a corper there (He never has, seems he never will too)
finally, he is the king of propaganda! If he were president, nothing will be happening (like now) but we will still be happy!

Hackomania: This is great bro... I'm so loving it. What's the status so far?
thanks hacko. currently, i'm moving focus from 2go4x (sf.net/projects/twogo4x) to IConverse (github.com/olibenu/iconverse).
a simple gui and an open source library (both showing my vision for IConverse) will soon be up at GitHub. very soon

I've not been able to get us hosting but hopefully i should do it before the end of the month.

Someone told me about winhost. Haven't used them though. Must it be windows based hosting? LAMP is way cheaper like N2500 for a 1yr standard

i have put the design documents up.

take a look at https://github.com/olibenu/iconverse
pay special attention to iconverse.pdf, it tells the whole story

i will soon put up a demo. just a little time, i'm hammering it out now

A-Zed, hope you're not doing the excel to mssql thing manually. there's this stuff i did that could fasten things up. it's called DataBox. check it out on sourceforge: sourceforge.net/projects/databox

sign me up! backend, tests and as little gui as possible. i've got vb.net, c++, sql, a little of html, css and asp.net under my belt. also i could do mgt stuff like svn and maybe git too
Programming / Re: [Project] 2012 Summer Of Code - WORK HAS COMMENCED by cripnip(m): 12:21pm On Aug 08, 2012
thanks for the mda hint. i guess naming it falls on kobojunkie. i'd say it should be more unique than budget informer. what, is the software a snitch?
Programming / Re: [Project] 2012 Summer Of Code - WORK HAS COMMENCED by cripnip(m): 8:48am On Aug 08, 2012
i've downloaded what is at github and your attached picture is sufficient. i'll work on a console version.
by the way, the project has no name. even in github, you guys are still using the summer thing. i suggest we name it fast as we don't know where this might go. perhaps with a poll?
i'm calling my console app 'budget-9'. 9 for 9ja.
by the way, what does the MDA in MDACode mean?

try this little trick:
in a batchfile (say notepad.bat), put
start notepad.exe
run the batch file and see if it does the same thing as clicking notepad
Programming / Re: [Project] 2012 Summer Of Code - WORK HAS COMMENCED by cripnip(m): 1:52pm On Aug 04, 2012
i wouldn't bother with a gui mockup if i were you. people may not honour it (i know i won't, i may just do a console app), they'll just do what they're comfortable with. the only standard we may hope for is an api to interact with the db.
anyway, waiting for the db models

https://github.com/azdonald/Nairaland-Summer-of-Code
Thats the github link.
Do you have a github account so i can give you commit access?

i'm now watching the github project.

perhaps the db format should be put up there too. an sqldump without the data would be nice as i can't seem to figure out the yuml.me thingy (or isn't it what kobo referred to as 2 pages back?)

also, maybe we should arrange the project into bin, res and src folders for binaries, resources and sourcecode with the excel and sql data under resources.
Computers / Re: Help! Lost .exe File Assocition....applications Open In Another by cripnip(m): 5:41pm On Aug 03, 2012
hmmm, very strange. if all exe's open with media center, can media center itself open? won't that be an endless loop?

sorry for not offering a solution, i just think you haven't stumbled on the real problem. have you tried a scan?

strange. does the official client do the same?

That is just sad. Just closed the poll and noticed the number of votes. Anyway, i'll go ahead and scratch my itch!
Programming / Re: [Project] 2012 Summer Of Code - WORK HAS COMMENCED by cripnip(m): 8:29am On Jul 28, 2012
suggestion: post sql table structure so that gui or api persons can get started without waiting for the excel data. this may also encourage crowd sourcing for this year's and future budgets
