Some embattled leaders of the Peoples Democratic
Party in Bayelsa State have set machinery in
motion to stop the re-election of Governor Seriake
Dickson.
Those behind the plot comprised mainly party
leaders suspended by the state’s PDP disciplinary
committee for alleged anti-party activities.
The anti-Dickson forces met in Yenagoa on
Saturday where they resolved that Dickson must
be shown the way out of office by all legal means
possible.
The meeting, which took place at the residence of
an unnamed PDP chieftain, deliberated on
governorship election issues.
The embattled leaders expressed the need for
anti-Dickson forces to unite and present a
formidable opponent against Dickson.
But Dickson’s spokesman, Mr. Daniel Iworiso-
Markson, said the plot against his boss would fail
woefully.
Iworiso-Markson described the aggrieved PDP
leaders as political jobbers and power prostitutes.
He said, “It is true that certain political jobbers and
power prostitutes have stepped up their plot to
wrest power from the incumbent. While we do not
begrudge them of their right to meet and to
strategise on how to achieve their aim, it is
pertinent to state that these persons have always
ganged up against the government of the day.
“The plot is mainly to ensure that their personal
greed is met and in the process threaten to
promote instability in the state if they fail to have
their way.
“For the avoidance of doubt, Dickson has, in the
last three years, made his presence felt in the
areas of development such as free, compulsory
and qualitative education, improved health care
delivery, landmark infrastructure and economic
empowerment.”
