ekt_bear: As a guy who wants to become a national leader, why doesn't he speak in a language everyone can understand (English) rather than his own regional language?

Very strange....

Why are you sentimental and partial? Were the eastern politicians not addressing their followers in Igbo? Were south westerner politicians not speaking Yoruba to their followers in fact, Wasiu - Yoruba musician not always in their train? It was not wrong when Akpabio speaks Efik or ibibio to his followers. But it is very wrong when Buhari spoke to his people in malo (Hausa) language! Wake up and drop sentiments

Why are you guys blind to the bold? In replying the question asked, the spokesman said doesn't know if the Board was contemplating such. So why the fuss? Why the rain of abuses?

Politics / Nigerian Security To Infiltrate BH Group As USA Did To Foil 6th May Bomb Attempt by Daymauler: 1:18am On May 10, 2012
Dear fellow Nairalanders, are Nigerian security agencies incapable of doing this?

======================================

U.S. media reports say a man sent by al-Qaida's branch in Yemen to blow up a U.S.-bound airliner was actually a double agent who infiltrated the terror network and convinced the terrorists to trust him with a new bomb designed to pass through airport security.

Unidentified U.S. and foreign intelligence officials said Tuesday the secret operative was working for Saudi Arabia's intelligence service and the CIA.  They say he posed as a would-be suicide bomber and volunteered for the mission that involved explosives concealed in his underwear. The operative was able to turn over his sophisticated explosive device to U.S. officials, who are analyzing the bomb at the FBI's laboratory in Quantico, Virginia.

They say the operative also obtained information that led to a successful airstrike Sunday against al-Qaida leader Fahd Mohammed Ahmed al-Quso in Yemen. Quso was wanted for his role in the 2000 bombing of the USS Cole warship off Yemen, which killed 17 U.S. sailors.

The informant's identity has not been disclosed. Unidentified officials say the operative spent weeks gaining the trust of members of Al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula.

Reports indicate that the U.S. administration had planned to keep the bomb operation secret but The Associated Press learned of it last week. The news organization delayed reporting the story at the request of the Obama administration.

U.S. officials have said the plot by al-Qaida's branch to put a suicide bomber on a U.S.-bound jet was detected in its earliest stages and that no U.S. airliner was ever at risk.

Authorities say the bomb was a redesign of an explosive underwear device intended to blow up a jet flying from Amsterdam to Detroit, Michigan on December 25, 2009.

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said the incident is a reminder that America and its allies are still targets of terrorist plots.

Is it true that PDP, not Nigerians elected bro Jonah?

President Goodluck Jonathan says he does not want to be admonished like a schoolchild.

Speaking at a dinner in honour of the National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party in Abuja on Monday, Jonathan however told the PDP executives despite being president he was not above the party.

He said he and other members of the Executive arm of government as well as the legislature were ready to respect party supremacy.

Jonathan said, “The President cannot be a king or maximum ruler, the President is elected by the party and must serve the party not the party serving the President. So, if he is deviating, the President must be cautioned so that all will know that the party is supreme and all must all follow the dictates of the party.

“I am not saying the President should be admonished like a primary schoolchild. Nobody in the party from the President to the least person at the ward will be superior to the party. So, you have a lot of challenges in this direction to make sure that you instil that kind of discipline. We will give you maximum cooperation.”

“The PDP is a political party and as a party, we must have guidelines and no matter the office you are holding, the party must be in a position to discipline or admonish Mr. President if he deviates.

“In South Africa, the African National Congress can admonish the President because the party is superior. And that is why in the gathering of the party, the party chairman takes precedence in order of protocol. It shows that the President himself is under the chairman.

Jonathan said he would not take issue with those criticising his administration, saying, “when you are in the ruling party, you must show more maturity”.

The President said, “We must all work to create an avenue where the party will source funding so that if you are the chairman of the party, members of the working committee, you can manage the party without excessive influence of people.

“Even though we expect all moneybags to be in PDP, but we don’t want the moneybags to influence the activities of the party and to stop that of course, we must come up with programmes that will make the party self-sustaining in terms of financing.”

The PDP Chairman, Alhaji Bamagar Tukur, said the party could not be repositioned without internal democracy and discipline.

He urged all party faithful to ensure that they do not work in cross purpose with the government.

This case don begin get K-leg as usual!

ABUJA—The Senator representing Kwara Central and former governor of Kwara State,  Senator Bukola Saraki, has obtained an interim injunction restraining the Inspector-General of Police, his officers and agents from threatening to arrest him or infringe on his rights pending the determination of the substantive suit on Thursday, May 26.

The motion of notice, which was filed in Federal High Court 4, Abuja by his lawyer, Mr. Lawal Raban, SAN, was served and duly received by the Commissioner of Police, Legal on Tuesday.

A statement by Saraki’s Media Aide, Akintoba Fatigun, said: “As a law-abiding citizen, Senator Saraki has decided to seek legal redress to put a stop to what appears an orchestrated frenzy calculated at smearing his name, assaulting his dignity and intimidating his person through deliberately garbled accounts and serial leaks concerning loans granted to a company that he has no relationship with.”

Politics / Subsidy Fraud: Probe Report Creates Panic In PDP by Daymauler: 1:24am On Apr 23, 2012
How will the President Solve this extended FAMILY AFFAIR oil subsidy wahala? shocked

THE fuel subsidy scandal appears to be too big a ‘family affair’ for the Peoples Democratic Party. THE PUNCH learnt that the party had encountered difficulties in its bid to douse the scandal.

Already, there are indications that some chieftains of the PDP are concerned that the House of Representatives’ panel report would have an adverse effect on the fortunes of the party in the 2015 general elections.

Leaders of the PDP, who spoke with The PUNCH on the condition of anonymity at the weekend, indicated that the mismanagement of the subsidy fund involved too many members of the party.

“Our concern is that if we intervene to save indicted members of the party, it could boomerang.

“Already, people are lambasting the PDP over the indictment of a former Delta State Governor, James Ibori, in London. Ibori was discharged in Nigeria. If we go-ahead and treat the subsidy report as a family affair, Nigerians will descend on us,” a member of the party’s National Working Committee told one of our correspondents at the weekend.

Another top member of the PDP, who asked not to be named, said the “scandal can enrage the citizens and make them to work against our party in future elections if we do not tread softly.”

The PDP’s senior officials are billed for a meeting on Monday (today) to discuss the House panel report and decide on what would be its response to the scandal. The party chiefs might also devise strategies to counter the negative effects of the report on the party.

The National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Chief Olisah Metuh, confirmed to one our correspondents on the telephone on Sunday that the PDP would meet today.

The party has not reacted to the scandal though opposition parties and other stakeholders have condemned the fraud as exposed by the House panel.

The PDP  NWC member, who spoke to The PUNCH, said the party would take its time to react  to the fuel subsidy scandal.

“Our concern is how to appropriately respond to the scandal in which many of our members are involved and that is why we have been keeping quiet,” he said.

The source added that some of the top people indicted in the report were serving ministers and others who are nursing senatorial and governorship ambitions.

Although the report has not been discussed by the NWC, our correspondents gathered that its (NWC) members were divided on how the report should be handled.

It was gathered some of the NWC members had been trying to persuade their party members in the committee to intervene and save the indicted party men and women.

The NWC member, who spoke to one of our correspondents, said, “Those who hold this view are saying that there is no way the party will not be affected, if members mentioned in the report are left to their fate.”

The source said that if implemented, the House committee report would affect several members of the PDP in high places.

However, a source told one of our correspondents that the Presidency and the leadership of the PDP were hoping to use the Senate Committee as “their joker to rubbish the findings of the lower chamber.”

“The plan is that they want to delay implementation until after the Senate concludes its probe. You know that the Senate is also looking at the same subsidy issue.

“The reason is clear. If they implement the report as it is, my brother, so many top PDP members will be bruised.

“Apart from the top members of PDP who held strategic positions in the PPPRA, the NNPC or the Ministry of Petroleum, several others will be affected.

“Many of the indicted oil firms are owned by members of the PDP, and that explains why the PDP cannot rush to comment on the committee’s report.

“You know also that you cannot touch the board of the PPPRA without touching the Minister of Petroleum. Also, a PDP governor was also mentioned.”

The House committee that probed the oil subsidy regime in the country submitted its report last week. A major highlight of the report is that the subsidy administration is heavily compromised.

As a result, the committee recommended that a total of N1.7bn be refunded by some government agencies, including the NNPC, PPPRA, the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation and 72 firms.

In addition, the House panel recommended that the refund should be made within three months and that the anti-graft agency, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, be invited to investigate and prosecute culprits.

Already, opposition political parties and other stakeholders have asked for the prosecution of the affected individuals, agencies and companies.

Actionleap: Stanbic IBTC is the leader of the whole pack. Others come after them. Their ROI is mind-blowing. The problem is that you can't change once you start with one, if not others won't get a client.
Every young person must start planning for their retirement. It's good to go the way of PFA, but you must do your own personal savings. Set aside 10% of your savings and diversify. Put a little in the bank, buy shares of reliable companies, buy properties and invest in genuine business. At 70yrs, i won't like to join queue waiting for pension money that has been stolen in Abuja.

Where did you hear that you can not change PFA? You can change but after a certain period which I think was reviewed to a year! Unlike your bank where you can change at will and have multiple accounts, you can do that with pension funds administrators (PFAs). You might need to move your Retirement Savings Account (RSA) to any other PFA for various reasons one of which might be you are not satisfied with the PFA or the Pension Fund Custodian (PFC) which is the bank where the pension funds are kept on your behalf, it's just one of the Deposit Money Banks in Nigeria.
