@chessguru

Thank you for reading my post and finding it worth your replying effort.

Again, let me say. I do not agree to people breaking the rules of any forum, but there are better ways of handling issues than ban people from your website, All i am saying is that the people of the forum should be shown respect, because the most beautiful and highly functional websites of the world will die before time when people stop using them.

There are ways of managing "customers" than kick them off your shop because they did one thing or the other wrong.

Let me pick out some point from your post and reply:

what isshocking about people getting banned on a website
?

well maybe I should ask you, what is wrong with me been shocked? I believe I have the right to be shocked at anything I find shocking to me, it may not be to you but to me, it is very shocking shocked that the people on NL is still standing at far less then 1million so ,

you deduced rationally and brilliantly but from wrong premises, and judgement is affected
:

maybe if you use simple english then I will be able to understand exactly what u r trying to say with this but until then, this doesnt make sense to me, am sure u didnt see my name as wole soyinka.

if you break certain rules or violate the terms and conditions of using HI5,facebook, myspace, or anyother website that isworth that name, you willbe kicked out without notice, because by registering you are deemed to have understood the terms and conditions of usage and the rules, every forum has RULES and users are expected toobey those simple rules FOR THE SMOOTH RUNNING OF THE SITE, so how is it the craziest thing you have heard in your website development career?? thisputs a big question mark on your claim.(though i amnot interested in disputing that).

well if FB, HI5, MYSPACE and others start banning people from there site because one crazy term of use was broken then I wonder how many people they will have on there network. These sites have deep rooted respect for there users and that is why they are FLYING high.

NL can and should do better than this. You need to go through the large number of complains that has been leveled against the admin of the forum to understand my shock. I have also had some of my topics moved to the recycle bin before and i feel offended.

As per 25 Billion, i guess he can put whatever price tag he deems fit, besides don't you think a site is worth just the cost of setting it up, yeah SMF is free , SMF is cheap, but if truely you are intothe business you should know that asite is worth its  traffick , and ranking!!and not how easy to set it up, goand check nairalands ranking on ALEXA, and for your information, i have the same script used toset up myspace.com, and plenty of fis.com that rakes in $30000 everyday, does that make those sites cheap, wether seun has done something fantastic or not is not for any single person to judge, it is a matter of op[inion which you are entitled to, personally i think OWNING THE BEST RANKED SITE IN NIGERIA IS NO SMALL FEAT, AND NOBODY CAN TAKE THAT FROM NAIRALAND!!

well as per the N25Billion claim worth of NL, I agree with you that part a site worth is valued in terms of its traffic, (ranking) but that is not ALL. if you read my post, i only asked what the evaluation is on? if you say ranking, then i give it to NL but there is more to the value of a website than its ranking. If I have 2Million, I will run a parallel website and achieve in less than 6months what it has taken NL to achive in years.

My point is this: NL need to do more than what it is doing right now to raise its evaluation level , like spikedcylinder says: I think it is just to scare people away, bet he has been recieving numerous calls from people who think they can do better than this.

dayotee2:

I respect seun for his great work and initiative but I don't think he deserve all party because site's survive on user. with due respect, he has not done anything spectacular, I am yet to see any advert for the promosion of NL, so people drive the success of this site and I think the users should be given MAXIMUM respect.

Deep Respect.

Politics / MADNESS: FG to spend N2.68tn Budget in 2009 by dayotee2(m): 1:58pm On Oct 30, 2008
This Nigerian government no go kill person oo ,

I just saw this headline in punch and couldnt wait to finish reading it before doing this post:

FG proposes N2.68tn budget for 2009 ,  what happened to the implementation of the 2008 budget? where did all the money go to? where are the repaired roads or new road? or all the money has been spent on the third mainland bridge? because that is the only thing I remember this government has done since 2007.

The spendings will also include N60bn subsidy to the Power Holding Company of Nigeria through the Multi-Year Tariff Order.

A breakdown of capital allocation showed that a total of N3.8bn was allocated to the Presidency, N5.6bn to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, N3.1bn to the Ministry of Youth Development and N800m to Women Affairs.

Transportation received N114.2bn, Health N34.5bn, Energy N110.3bn, Agriculture N80.9bn, Interior N25.6bn, the Federal Capital Territory N30.6bn, Environment and Housing N4.3bn; Tourism, Culture and National Orientation N4.2bn, Defence N27.7bn and Education N23.8bn.

Omo see as we dey spend money yet nothing to show for it ,

The the question that comes to mind when I see figures like this is, what did we do with all this Money?

More on punch website: http://punchontheweb.com/Articl.aspx?theartic=Art200810300224537

Now they want to add insult upon our injury by HIGHLY taxing us to raise money for there pocket

President Umaru Yar’Adua, at the International Tax Conference in Abuja on Monday, expressed dismay over the falling oil prices, which occassioned the slashing of the oil benchmark.

Yar’Adua said that due to the dwindling prices of crude in the international oil market, the nation would have to look at other sources of revenue, especially tax, for sustainable economic development.

why can't we look to agriculture, IT, youth development and many others for to sources for revenue.

let talk: How best can we secure a successful Implemetation of budget in Nigeria ,  we can't continue like this.

When I read comments like this I only hear one shouting " ATTENTION PLS SEE ME, AM HERE!!!!!!", if not so, what is the point in this post? what r u message r u trying to pass across?

Common princessa , even if you don't leave in Nigeria, you must have been hearing that nothing is happening in the country with respect to development. And you claim it doesnt affect you , BIG LIE , even if u r ghost it will affect you cos there will be lesser souls to hunt due to high death rate and hunger.

Yar’Adua Sacks 20 Ministers
Pres. Yar'Adua drops 20 Ministers in Cabinet Shake-up

I cant help but laugh seeing the headlines today. So it took Mr. president over a year to see that 20 ministers are not performing, grin grin grin grin grin grin

So 20 gone, ojo REMAINs , he has been in government since the days of ABACHA and he is still working, bet he must be very CREATIVE and ACTIVE  grin grin grin grin grin

why was Fatima Balaraba Ibrahim (power and steal) appointed in the first place? she knows ABSOLUTELY nothing about power.

I am shocked Daggash is gone, our rumored CBN governor grin grin grin grin

So who will sack the oga patapata ("the president"wink who has equally not performed?

what is the critarial this government used in choosing the cabinet members in the first place?

I cant wait to see the new cabinet member, I bet i will come back here and LAUGH again.

The PDP site is a national disgrace, a shame to intellectual proficiency of the black race.

I want to believe the site is a scam , if it is truly the official website of PDP then I think it is a true reflection of the "people destroying party".

they lack taste for quality and professionalism, little wonder Nigeria is still like this.

To the developer: for national peace sake, pls get trained or outsource jobs to professional, its not out of place to get jobs from people who's got no eyes but you don't have to do stupid jobs, in a stupid way all the time. You could have parted with 50% of the deal and get a better job for your client and raise your companies brand respect.

Nigerians are more blessed than this, you can imagine the image this would have created in the international community.

God help Nigeria.

Hi sky blue, thanks for the fair way you have passed your message and corrections across, I respect your choice of word and fairness.

I also have some links for more info on the FOI bill saga and the role of OBJ in it:

http://www.saharareporters.com/column62.php

http://www.vanguardngr.com/content/view/9980/122/

http://www.vanguardngr.com/content/view/18448/141/

http://www.foicoalition.org/news/2007/mfwastatement.htm

I also share your fear for the current administration, it seems nothing is going on in the country, just like Pat Utomi says: " we are in motion but I can't say categorically in which direction we are, forward or backward, I don't think we are progressing forward" and in Ruben Abati's word "I used to be unsure if we are going forward or backward but now I know and am sure we are going backward.".

the yar'adua led government seems to be confused, lack ideas and the energy to move the country forward.

again, I say thank you for the correction.

your recommened link http://www.rap21.org/article18995.html was helpful and very informative.

thank you.

Sky Blue:

Check the salary the president earns and the state of Ota farms then and now, it does not take a genius to figure out that things don't add up. So I am guessing inbetween doing 'his best' he was able to put personal wealth before the interest of the nation? In the spirit of openness why did it turn out to be that OBJ became the president that refused to sign the FOI bill into law just before he left due to such frivolities as the way the bill was named? Could fear of the power of freedom of information or politics have possibly come into play?

Hi sky blue: I understand you stand on this issue and I will like to register my respect for your opinion. Yes OBJ did his best, if his best if enof is another issue but to me his cabinet of brains is still the BEST we have ever had in the history of Nigeria till date. The current governement cabinet is a national disappointment, crops of heads that knows nothing about there appointment, No apology.

on the FOI bill, am afraid you are very wrong to state that OBJ didnt pass the bill, Bills are not passed by Mr. president, that is the work of the national assemble and if they choose to trow the bill out as they hv done, it is not the president's fault.

Dont you think you will be unfair to the man of the house if after releasing fund for cooking and the woman refuse to cook or she spend the money on her hair in salon?

There is more to governance than the president, The president is 1 person, there are others that can either make governace get to the people or NOT.

Imagine what would happen if we start talking and analysing the government of Abacha, IBB, Abubaka, Buhari e.t.c ,

It is easy to pass blame, OBJ has given Nigerian a BIG room to pass blame on HiM but we forget he is in the PAST and there is no FUTURE THERE.
Politics / Re: PHCN Uses Generator And Shouts Up NEPA When There Is Light! by dayotee2(m): 10:04am On Oct 22, 2008
I agree with you pamboogie

pamboogie:

Obj's not God, he did the best he could. he laid foundations.

yes OBJ laid a solid foundation for the next generation, the GSM is not the result, it is the foundation for the result, the bank reform is not the result, but it is the foundation for a better economy, now we have Micro Finance Bank for enterprenuer, NIPP is not the result, it is the foundation to a 24/7 power supply for Nigerian.

Before OBJ, I pay for power monthly even when i don't get power for the month, but thank God now I use the prepaid meters, I only pay for what I use, that also is a foundation.

Lets call on Mr. president to start building.

we can see result of building on a solid foundation is Lagos, let others learn from baba fash.

Also, I will recommend that states should be allowed to generate there power for there state, I know Lagos has something like that but was forced to add it to the national grid, ogun is planing same, sincerely I am disappointed OBJ kicked against this while in government but we can get it right after him.

there is no future in the PAST.
Politics / Shoker! I Don’t Know The Number Of Policemen In Nigeria – Okiro by dayotee2(m): 8:47am On Oct 22, 2008

The Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Mike Okiro, on Tuesday stunned senior police officers at the Force Headquarters in Abuja when he said that as the number one police officer, he did not know the actual number of policemen in the country.

"I don’t even know the actual number of policemen in the country. All what I know is mere estimate and that is why we keep on talking about so, so and so number. " from punch online.

No wonder we have increasing number of crimes daily, we don't even know if we have sufficient police officers or NOT.

this guy "okiro" should be fired with immediate effect ,  abi what is he doing not knowing his number of staffs.

This can only happen in Nigeria
Politics / Re: PHCN Uses Generator And Shouts Up NEPA When There Is Light! by dayotee2(m): 8:27am On Oct 22, 2008
Jakumo:

Correction. Former Nigerian president Obasanjo STOLE 16 Billion US dollars that had been earmarked for power generation for the entire nation.

Jakumo: I will prefer if you give us FACT in this forum and not just screen OBJ is a thief.

our problem with OBJ in Nigeria is that we have forgotten where we were before 1999 and lost memories of life before OBJ.

We have forgotten the 3months, 6months and LONG weeks we exist without power from NEPA because we were producing less than 1000MW, we have forgotten that generator was even used by the RICH only at that time because no poor man can afford GEN, so we were in total darkness.

Before OBJ, egbin power station was useless, OBJ revamp the station and built FOUR more power station before he left office, he set a foundation for more power stations to generate more power through the NIPP.

I remember what Imoke (formal minister or power and steal under OBJ and now the governor of cross river state) said when he was in front of the senate committee probing the NIPP project, he said "when all this project begins to materialised, we should not forget WE (himself and OBJ) started it" and how they were busy clapping for his sweet talks.

shockingly few months back Nigeria went to an all time low of 800MW from the 3000MW OBJ left in power generation because instead of looking forward, we kept our eyes on a man who is enjoying the head of his life in OTA.

Before OBJ, Nigeria was running into exitintion, we were losing touch with everything that pertain to life, OBJ was able to slow our pace on that journey in his 8 years in government. He didn't do ALL he did SOME, YOU and I has SOME to do, Have you done your part?

For me, I want to see yar'adua plan for the PHCH, he has been postponing his campaign "promise" of declaring a state of emergency on POWER in his first 100 days in office, we are now in his 600days and he is yet to do ANYTHING, i mean ANYTHING to improve our power situation in Nigeria,

I want the senate to publish the NIPP probe report, publish OBJ's response letter to the senate committee on the NIPP, the lmoke letter on this same project, Yar'adua road map for a better power in Nigeria.

Again it is important we know that the NIPP project is a well conceived concept, it has been claimed to be the best step we have ever taken towards a better power supply for Nigeria, so there is nothing wrong in the NIPP concept, the big question Mr. president has not been able to answer is " how do we right the wrongs of the implementation of the NIPP project, with Nigerian in mind and not OBJ"?.

If yar'adua has not stopped the funding of NIPP, we will by now be enjoying some of the benefit as some power stations would have been completed and added to the national grid. May I say this also, that OTA bridge has remain the way it is now because baba "go slow" has stop financing the project since last year also.

Again I say the future is not in the dangote lead power reform team ,  dangote has a power production company and he will only think of his pocket as he usually do.
Politics / Re: PHCN Uses Generator And Shouts Up NEPA When There Is Light! by dayotee2(m): 10:14pm On Oct 21, 2008
A-town: yes 16Billion USD spent btw 1999 and 2007. and we still need about $85B to have stable power in Nigeria according to Suleiman Bello, the executive vice chairman and chief executive officer of Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN.

PLs see below refs for more on the NIPP project:

http://allafrica.com/stories/200712040176.html

http://www.tellng.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=84&Itemid=1

One point I think i should say finally is that our current president was the governor of katsina state when it was agreed among the governors and the FG to spend from the international reserver to fund the power project, one only wonders what happened to Mr.president to stopping the funding of the project for a year and asking for probe afterwards, with high claims of power plants lieing at different ports in the contry.

fyneguy:

All these paid OBJ PR consultants trying hard to defend him, (hisses)

Am afraid @ fyneguy not all that speak well of OBJ are paid PR consultant as you claim, I am a positive Nigerian, open to informations and slow to judging people.

The truth is, there is no future in the past,

OBJ is not the future, he is the past, he has done his part, finished his script and done with nigeria, we should be done with him too, let him be,
Yar'Adua is the present, he should focus on the job on his table and stop the bad image painting of another man, he will leave there one day and YOU may be the future. NO sane people drive forward  by looking back.
Politics / Re: PHCN Uses Generator And Shouts Up NEPA When There Is Light! by dayotee2(m): 7:32pm On Oct 21, 2008
landis:

It is not a shame.

It is picking up OBJ and [punishing him] for spending $16billion to give us darkness.

If above is done, Yaradua and everyone coming after will take us for serious.

@landis: I have follow with the intense interest the $16B spent on NIPP saga; by the way this money was not claimed spent on NEPA but on NIPP so lets not mix things up.

First I find it shocking and the highest level display of ignorance on the part of our leaders to expect a power station to be built in a year.

sincerely landis I think its high time we let OBJ be, he meant well for the nation and the said money spent on power project is not a waste as some people in government is trying to make us believe. Think of it: The finance minister under OBJ says she released only about $5billion, The president claim its $16B from when to when? and how much has yar'adua spent on power himself?

south africa recently invested $25B in there power towards 2010 world cup.

I recomend that you read Tell of months back on the power project saga and how your senate commitee shamfully represented us. Can you believe that, the senate commitee when for site seeing and spent only 5min on the site, claim nothing is going on because there is no physical structure and they later spent 3hours in the state governors house,

Yar'adua should order the publishing of the letter OBJ sent to the house commitee on the NIPP project, Yar'adua should tell us exactly his plan for Power in nigeria and disolve with IMMEDIATE effect the dangote led power reform team , .

Thank you for reading and pls dont HIT hard back at me.

From hanen, to Yawa, and to others who have been to the site without commenting and to those yet to submit there comment by the way yawa, your name scares me the first time I saw your post.

Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to contribute your quota to the success of my brand, and company. Thank you so much.

It is with the deep humility and gratitude that I receive all your suggestions, and the ones I can make immediately I have which includes:

1) why hire us - jumping: Fixed to run on click with a slower animation as suggested by yawa and henen.
2) bit of space between the navigation and the rest of the page: sincerely hanen, I didn’t see that maybe you mean, btw the nav and the header, if that: the header has a padding and a shadow, but some browsers do not display the shadow effect.
3) The “what they say box”: the padding has been added and I agree with you that it makes more sense now than what was there before thanks hanen.
4) Image 117kb: this has been optimized, my initial fear is in losing the image quality but I think its kind of fairer now. Thanks yawa.
5) additional website services: page not found: Now page can be found

I will be glad to have more response on this post.

Its true that two heads are better than one.

Thank you guys, (ladies), you are just great.

thanks yawa-ti-de;

Thank you for your commendation, and I agree we dont need too cloggy sites that people wont load with a starcomms connection , LOL!

1) why hire us - jumping: I would rather this be an onclick event. It was kind of a shocker when I first went over them. I think the behavior should be user-initiated

pls permit me to listen to others response on this issue, sure i can make it onclick event.

2) date beside menu: I didn't notice the date at first because of this. Perhaps it should be above or below it or you find a way to emphasize it

ok, I will put it under the domain search form, hope its better there?

3) large images below the menu - one was 117kb. you might want to consider optimizing such images.

thanks, didnt notice this, but will work on it immediatly ,

4) request for quote not validating phone number

will work on this also, thanks

5) additional website services: page not found
http://tebixcreative.com/web_additional_services.aspx

this must have been an left behind victim but it has been uploaded now. pls check to be sure

6) mobile app and graphic design on what we do page, no response: fix or take them out

also I didnt see this, I will add the content.

I saw your response on the punch issuse and will now proceed to respond , smiles smiley

Webmasters / Re: Punch Newspaper Site Possibly Hacked? by dayotee2(m): 6:55pm On Oct 20, 2008
Hi guys, I must confess i hate missing this post, I would have loved to follow up the post from the beginning cos i have fair knowledge of some of the issues discussed.

1. Punch site been hacked is no news, I think we should be a little bit fair in our disposition to this issue, if you work in this industry you will know that, that can happen and a repetition of it is what should be prevented, it is not as if punch invited the hackers themselves, from the solution punch has put in place now I believe the site will be hacker save for a longer time.

2. On the punch website layout, My brothers, you will need to do more than preaching, presentation and what have you to make the management change the layout of the site, It is not as if the the developers do not want to change the layout but it took a lot of time before the management of punch could see reasons why the payour should be changed.

3. slow loading, omo if punch can make there index page full advert page and no story, they will do it, you know the technical implication of much images and flash object on the home page they don't care about all that."

4. I know the developers are working on a new punch layout now and should be ready for lunch soonest.

now who am I?

I am a friend of both the site developer (Atlas) and Punch, I have worked for both company on several applications in the past including the punch website.
