Sports / Tottenham Advance To Europa League Play-off After Scare by Debstegab100(m): 9:00pm On Sep 24, 2020
Son Heung-min scored one and set up two as Tottenham advanced to the Europa League play-off round after a scare against Shkendija in North Macedonia.

Son, who scored four goals against Southampton last Sunday, turned provider to set up Argentine Erik Lamela to calmly score the opener.

Joe Hart, who was making his Spurs debut, was beaten by a stunning 20-yard finish by Valmir Nafiu.

But Son drilled the second before setting up Harry Kane for the third.

It was a decent performance by Jose Mourinho's side, who meet Maccabi Haifa at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the play-off round next Thursday.

However, they went from dominating the tie to hanging on before two goals in the space of nine minutes put the game out of Shkendija's reach.

Soon after Nafiu's wonderful equaliser from outside the box, Besart Ibraimi had a chance to put the hosts ahead but headed wide.

Spurs regained control thanks mainly to another excellent performance by Son.

Having scored four of his side's five goals at Southampton last Sunday, the South Korea forward produced another classy performance to help his side advance.

Sports / Top Earning Nigerian Footballers In Europe by Debstegab100(m): 8:47pm On Sep 16, 2020
The highest-earning Nigerian footballers are:

1. Odion Ighalo (Manchester United): £125K a week
Recently, Ighalo transferred to Manchester United on loan from the Chinese Super League side Shangai Shenshua, becoming the first-ever Nigerian to play for Manchester United. Since his transfer, he has become a fan favorite with the EPL side, netting a total of 5 goals in 17 games for Manchester United so far. His weekly wages of £125K make him the highest-earning Nigerian footballer in Europe.

2. Victor Osimhen (Napoli): £96K a week
Just last month, the 21-year-old Nigerian football star, Victor Osimhen transferred to the Italian Serie-A side, Napoli. This is one of the most expensive African footballer transfers in European football.

Football Transfer news analyst, Fabrizio Romano
announced that Osimhen would join Napoli from Lille, for the tune of €50 million+ add-ons to Lille, and he would sign a contract with the Naples side. This would keep him in Italy until 2025.

Osimhen is also expected to earn €5 million Euros a year (an average of £96K per week) in wages, image rights and bonuses which would make him the second highest-earning Nigerian footballer in Europe.

This is a deserved fee for him after scoring 13 goals in 27 league games for Lille in the 2019/20 season.

3. Wilfred Ndidi (Leicester City): £75K a week
The 23-year-old defensive midfielder joined the EPL side for a £17 million deal from Belgian club Genk and has become one of the most solid and well known defensive midfielders in European Football.

He has represented the Super eagles 36 times and may top the list one day as he attracts interest from bigger clubs in Europe.

4. Victor Moses ( Chelsea): £75K a week
The 29-year-old shares a spot with Wilfred Ndidi. He joined Chelsea in 2012 after he was signed from Wigan Atheltic. He is one of the few Nigerian footballers to win both the Premier League and a European title.

5. Kelechi Iheanacho (Leicester City): £60K a week
The FIFA Under-17 World Cup winner with Nigeria comes in 4th. He also won the FIFA Under-17 World Cup Golden Ball, which attracted the attention of Manchester City.

He made his league debut for Manchester City in the 2015-16 season and was sold 2 years later for £25m million to Leicester City. This made him the most expensive transfer of a Nigerian Footballer then, record that was broken two years later by Alex Iwobi’s fee during his transfer to Everton.

6. Ahmed Musa (Al Nassr FC): £60k a week
Ahmed Musa is a very popular Nigerian professional footballer and of of Nigeria’s best forwards of all time.

He scored 2 winning goals against Iceland at the FIFA world cup in 2018 and has featured for the Nigerian National team many times in multiple competitons.

Musa is also one of the highest-paid Nigerian footballers after his multimillion-dollar move from Leicester City FC to a Saudi Football side, Al-Nassr FC in 2018. He also earns an average of £60,000 from his new football club.

7. Alex Iwobi (Everton): £50K a week
24-year-old Alex Iwobi comes in 5 place. He is a cousin to one of Nigeria’s greatest players of all time, Jay Jay Okocha. Iwobi started his career with Arsenal, making his league debut in the 2015/16 season. He played a total of 100 league games for Arsenal and helped the North London club secure the 2017 FA Cup trophy.

Sports / Chelsea Player Ratings Vs Brighton by Debstegab100(m): 10:20pm On Sep 14, 2020
Kepa Arrizabalaga
Back in the starting XI and had nothing to deal with in the first half. Brighton had a couple of shots, but they were either blocked or high over his bar. One decent save to push away a strong shot from Steven Alzate.
However, in the second half he should have done better with the goal from Leandro Trossard. 4

Reece James
Didn't get forward too much in the first half as Brighton enjoyed more of the possession. Whipped one ball into the box, but really didn't have a lot to work with. Solid defensively.
An absolutely stunning strike for the second goal. Really in control as well as the game went on. Moved into midfield late in the game. 8

Kurt Zouma
A strong opening 45 minutes. Good in the tackle and read the game well. The Blues still looked a little nervy from corners, but Zouma was impressive.
There were moments the defence were all over the place at the back. Communication still a big issue for them. Great for him to score, but not keeping a clean sheet would have hurt. 7

Andreas Christensen
A pretty solid start for the Dane. Not really tested too much and he read the game well, with some nice interceptions. Didn't look troubled at first.
The Blues struggled at times at the back and Brighton had some big chances. One very good moment of covering a run to the near post and generally led the defence well. 7

Marcos Alonso
Beaten for pace several times by Tariq Lamptey, the former Blues right-back. Didn't get forward at all in the first half and was given a tough time by the youngster.
Much of the same in the second half, where Lamptey had a great evening getting at his former teammate. Offered little in the attacking sense. 5

Jorginho
Struggled to really control the midfield in the first half, with Brighton enjoying more possession. Couldn't move the ball forward well. Another very good penalty, however.
There was a similar pattern in the second half. The Brighton midfield enjoyed more of the ball and knocked it around nicely, with Jorginho having to do more defensive work. 6

N'Golo Kante
Intercepted the ball well at times. Some good tackles as well, but didn't really dominate the midfield. Was overrun a bit by the impressive Yves Bissouma.
Like Jorginho, there wasn't much possession from the Blues midfield and it was the Seagulls who impressed. However, Kante was still his energetic self and won the ball well. 7

Mason Mount
Playing off the left, he looked to get into the game and had one nice cross. But really didn't have too much impact in the opening half of the game.
Also struggled to get into the game too much as well. Didn't have much joy off the left and couldn't make things happen with the ball at his feet. 5

Ruben Loftus-Cheek
Played as a second striker, but really not a very good opening 45 minutes from the England international. Gave away the ball too much, and one moment he could have played in Werner on goal, but the pass was poor.
Things didn't get any better for him in the second half before coming off. A disappointing night. 3

Kai Havertz
A very quiet opening 45 minutes. The German was barely in the game playing off the right. One nice ball to release Werner through, but struggled to make an impact.
One horrendous moment with a pass that went straight out of play. Not the debut that he would have wanted and will hope for better next time. 3

Timo Werner
A massively encouraging debut. His pace was exceptional, which he showed by winning the penalty. He constantly played the line and worked hard.
Didn't have as much to feed on in the second half. Brighton controlled much of the game and he couldn't be found as much. 8

Substitutes
Ross Barkley (on for Loftus-Cheek 61')
Wasted some good moments when the Blues looked to break forward. 5

Callum Hudson-Odoi (on for Havertz 80')
Added a bit of late pace and energy to catch Brighton on the break. 5

Cesar Azpilicueta (on for Jorginho 85')
Helped to see out the game. 5

Sports / Tottenham Player Ratings Vs Everton by Debstegab100(m): 7:14pm On Sep 13, 2020
GK Hugo Lloris, 6 -- The France international made several simple saves, but he was fortunate to avoid conceding when Richarlison rounded him and he couldn't do anything to prevent Calvert-Lewin's thumping winner.

DF Matt Doherty, 5 -- There was a real determination in the new signing's debut performance during the first half and he even came close to scoring, but as time went on, Richarlison was picking his pocket at will.

DF Toby Alderweireld, 4 -- Producing a small collection of important blocks can't make up for the clear and obvious lack of pace that Alderweireld now has.

DF Eric Dier, 4 -- Any kind of intricate play is always bound to catch Dier out with his spatial awareness costing Tottenham big for Everton's goal.

DF Ben Davies, 4 -- Davies was lethargic from the word go as he never really seemed to be in the right state of mind to get stuck in or fight for every loose ball.

MF Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, 4 -- The former Southampton man didn't even really appear to know what role he was playing and even though his distribution was solid, there was no cohesion for him to work with in the middle of the field.

MF Harry Winks, 5 -- While he did find far more success when he kept the ball on the deck, it's hard to define Winks as a midfield general when his general play is just so overwhelmingly negative.

AMF Lucas Moura, 4 -- He certainly works better on the counter-attack but for someone who is tasked with creating opportunities for his team, Moura really leave a lot to be desired.

AMF Dele Alli, 4 -- It was another poor display -- from his questionable decision-making to his dull, uninspiring demeanour whenever he received the ball.

AMF Son Heung-Min, 6 -- Started off like a house on fire by cutting inside and making all sorts problems for the Everton defence, but that pressure faded away in the second half.

FW Harry Kane, 5 -- Tottenham's star man was simply marked out of the conversation in North London with the lack of service costing him the chance to make an impact.

Substitutes
MF Moussa Sissoko, 5 -- Didn't even remotely come close to causing any danger for Everton after another lacklustre showing.

MF Steven Bergwijn, 6 -- With a full 90 minutes under his belt he may have been able to unlock some opportunities for Spurs but his teammates weren't quite as motivated.

MF Tanguy Ndombele, N/A -- He can produce some true moments of magic when he's given space but his energy levels just aren't where they need to be.

Vicente Guaita: Comfortable save in the opening stages from a header and had to be alert to prevent Ings from getting on the end of a pass in the area. Stunning reaction save to prevent Che Adams in the second half, and a vital stop in added-on time to hold all the points. 8

Joel Ward : A solid performance. Kept Nathan Redmond quiet for most of the game. 7

Cheikhou Kouyate: Showed his impressive strength in holding off Danny Ings as the striker attempted to get onto the ball in the box in the opening minutes. Deployed out of position but allowed very little in the way of clear opportunities. 8

Scott Dann: Had a header saved by McCarthy in the first half. Dominant in the air, made a good clearance just before half-time. 7

Tyrick Mitchell : Dealt well in the first half with the visitors' tactical set up of Walker-Peters getting wide and Smallbone drifting in. Was targeted by Saints, particularly in the opening stages of the second half, but competed well throughout. 7

Andros Townsend : Missed his first opportunity to find Zaha in the area, but made no mistake the second time, speeding in behind the Saints back line before chipping a ball to the far post. Constantly looking for Zaha or Ayew in behind the defence, and tracked back well to help Ward deal with advancing runs from Bertrand. 7

James McArthur : Solid and well-organised performance from the midfielder. Had one opportunity with a header he could have done better with. 6

James McCarthy : Put in some good deliveries from corners and free-kicks. Got stuck in on a few occasions and was clearly enjoying the battle, but was booked for a tackle on Ward-Prowse. A very busy performance. 7

Jeff Schlupp : Put in some decent crosses from wide, but didn't quite find their mark. A decent display to help out Mitchell at left-back as well. 6

Jordan Ayew : A little quiet in the first half, but played a key role in closing down Southampton defenders. Was starved of real opportunites, but did not let his work rate drop. 6

Wilf Zaha: Kept a cool head to place the ball past McCarthy for the opener. Was constantly looking for the ball in behind, and was surely just a matter of inches away from making it 2-0 when given offside late on. Thrashed an effort into the side netting after rampaging past Stephens. 8

Substitutes:
Luka Milivojevic: Put in a few delicious deliveries after joining the fray, and also broke up Southampton possession nicely.

Eberechi Eze : Not on for long enough to offer more than glimpses of his talent, but still managed to leave one defender on his backside.

Sports / Arsenal Players Rating Vs Fulham by Debstegab100(m): 4:48pm On Sep 12, 2020
Bernd Leno: His early mishap with Gabriel Magalhaes was understandable considering the pair have never played together and the Brazilian doesn't speak the language yet. In spite of this, Leno responded well and was sound behind the backline from then on. 6

Rob Holding: PLayed as the right-sided centre-back, Rob Holding had a solid start. Tasked to engage more often with the Fulham attackers, he was always ready to step in. Whether it was a regular tackle or a pass into a team-mate, he was ready for the challenge. Played a risky pass toward the end of the first half which put the Gunners under unnecessary pressure. Began the second half with an amazing run into the Fulham half - keeping the ball off the ground - before playing Lacazette in to win the corner for Gabriel's debut goal. A statement following all the speculation over his future. 8

Gabriel Magalhaes: The Brazilian had a shaky start with a miscommunication with Leno almost resulting in an early Fulham goal. Did well when put in a one on one situation on his weaker foot, timing his challenge on Ivan Cavaleiro to perfection, using his strength to keep the ball and then calmly setting it to Hector Bellerin. Didn't seem up to speed in regards to build-up play which is understandable. Rose confidently to deal with the pressure put on the side late in the first half. His aerial prowess was on display again shortly after as he buried a header home to make it 2-0. A very strong display after the initial mishap. 8

Kieran Tierney: The Scot had a few shaky moments on the ball but these moments weren't in high pressure situations. The Scot was composed in defence. Grew as the game went on but wasn't a standout performer on the day. 6

Hector Bellerin: Was alert in defence and able to offer Holding and Gabriel support when needed. Grew into a bigger attacking threat as the game went on and was unlucky not to have an assist to his name. He played a great ball into Aubameyang which broke the lines and should have been finished. A good outing for the Spaniard. 7

Mohamed Elneny: With Arsenal looking to trap Fulham inside their ow half, Mohamed Elneny's stamina to fly up the pitch and support the press was key. In possession, he was aware of his surroundings which gave him the chance to move the ball with as few touches as possible. This was particularly important in the early stages of Alexandre Lacazette's opener. Had a moment when he dealt on the ball for too long but it led to nothing. Continued to be an important presence in midfield in the second half as he helped see out the win with crucial interceptions. 7

Granit Xhaka: The Swiss was sound in midfield. Although he had less of an overarching impact on the game than Elneny, he was key to the opener being scored. His presence wasn't without value in the early stages of breaks either as he would Instruct Tierney when to push forward for himself to slot into the vacated spaces. 6

Ainsley Maitland-Niles: Constantly tucked into more central areas when Arsenal were in possession. From here he played a great ball in behind for Lacazette but the Frenchman wasn't quick enough to get o the end of it. Whipped a teasing cross into the box with his left foot but it was just too long. A very solid display yet again at wing-back. 7

Willian: His starting position may have been on the right, but Willian has been drifting into more central areas once Arsenal break into the middle third of the pitch. Happened in the opening minutes and in the build up to the goal. Could fill the void that is there when Arsenal use a 3-4-3 system. Tracked back well to intervene when Aboubakar Kamara was racing towards the Arsenal box. Took his corner very well to find Gabriel for his debut goal in the first half. Stayed alive when the ball fell to him with Arsenal on the break to play in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for his goal. Continued to cause problems after the third goal and was a real force until he was brought off. 9

Alexandre Lacazette: Came into the game very sharp. When the ball dropped to him in the box, he took the finish very well with his weak foot. 10 minutes later, he played a nice flick into Elneny just inside the box but the midfielder's shot was too tame. He acted as a strong platform for Arsenal to build attacks off and won fouls at crucial points in the game. 8

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang: A solid display from the club captain. In the first half it was the way in which he worked the channels with Maitland-Niles which impressed before he stamped his mark on the game with a sublime finish into the far corner. Should have scored when Bellerin played him through but a quality, selfless performance from the captain. 8

Substitutes
Nicolas Pepe: Introduced himself with a nice corner before showing great flair to work an angle into the box although his cross was blocked. A decent cameo. 6

Dani Ceballos: Not on long enough to rate. N/A

Eddie Nketiah: Not on long enough to rate. N/A

Education / Only Final Year Students Will Resume Next Monday, Says Lagos… by Debstegab100(m): 9:29am On Sep 11, 2020
Lagos State government has said tertiary institutions in the state would resume next Monday, with only final year students across disciplines to return to the classrooms first, before students in other levels.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Mr Tokunbo Wahab, gave this hint on Thursday while featuring as a guest on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme.

Lagos State has no fewer than five tertiary schools including the Lagos State University(LASU), Ojo; Lagos State Polytechnic(LASPOTECH), Ikorodu; Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education(AOCOED), Otto\Ijanikin; Micheal Otedola College of Primary Education (MOCPED), Noforija- Epe and the Lagos Health Technology( LACOETH), Yaba.

The special adviser, who said the resumption of students back to school in the state would be in batches without giving details of the resumption of others, noted that the state government had put in place necessary facilities and processes to ensure a safe reopening of classrooms in all the schools.

He said, “Since we are at a point where scientifically we’ve been proven to have flattened the COVID-19 curve, it invariably means that we are not as exposed as we used to be some five, four, three months back.

“So, consequently, we have to find a way to bring our lives back to normal. And in doing that, education is very critical to whatever we are going to do.

Sports / Arsenal Midfielder Mesut Ozil Is Wanted By Clubs In Saudi Arabia And Qatar by Debstegab100(m): 10:41am On Sep 01, 2020
Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil is wanted by clubs in Saudi Arabia and Qatar with Arsenal desperate to offload the Germany midfielder.

But Ozil, has no intention of leaving north London and plans to remain in England until his Gunners contract expires next year.

The 31-year-old is tied down to Arsenal until the end of the season, and Emirates chiefs want to cash in on Ozil this summer to wipe his huge £350,000-a-week wages off their books.

Teams in Saudi Arabia and Qatar are said to be keen on Ozil with Arsenal seeking to offload him, and Saudi team Al-Nassr are reportedly ready to offer the midfielder around £15million-per-year.

But even such a lucrative offer is unlikely to tempt Ozil, who last month insisted to the Athletic that he has no desire to quit the Gunners until the day his contract expires.

“My position is clear,” said Ozil. “I’m here through to the last day of our agreement and I’ll give everything I have for this club.

“I’ll decide when I go, not other people.
“I didn’t sign for two or three years, I signed for four and that should be respected by everyone.

“Things have obviously been difficult but I love Arsenal, I love to work there, I love the people in the club — the real people, those I’ve been with for a long time — and I love London, it’s my home.

“Whatever happened in the last two seasons, I’m happy and very strong mentally. I never give up on anything. I want to help my team and I’ll fight for it. If I’m fit, I know what I can do on the pitch.”
