I'm not sure why some of us are supporting this deal. Its a complete rip off. Be reminded that this aircraft fulfills only one role - ground attack. For a cash strapped Nigeria we should be acquiring multirole platforms. Regardless of the inclusion of training, spare parts, aviation and ground support equipment, and hangar, facilities, and infrastructure required to support the program, this is awoof money to US industries. Cutievik says Iraq got 20 for $425m including all necessary accessories and support. It is my firm belief that our $600m deal will not be as juicy as the Iraqi deal and we will see this before our very eyes when they are supplied and start operations.
This penchant for made in America weapons is bewildering.
Again we have lost the opportunity with this deal to acquire air superiority aircrafts. Algerians and Ugandan SUs, Morocann F16s or even South African Gripens will run air superiority over Nigerian airspace and we'll do nothing but stare.
THis is what happens when we shy away from open bid procurement processes.

Make we dey analyse something with open eye, leave unnecessary arguments

Some of you should start feeding your IDPs living in Borno and relocation those living in Kamer before talking of a regime change in a better organized, more powerful country like Cameroon . See me citizens of an unstable country (from Boko to pipeline bombers to Fula herdsmen ) talking about the supposedly threatening instability of Cameroon ... lmfao if there should be an instability in Cameroon post Biya (which is very unlikely to happen ) Nigeria will just suck it up like we sucked it up during Biafra absorbing millions of Nigerians ,the same way we do with car citizens and Chadians and the same way we are doing with Nigerians . Anyone dreaming about funding groups to remove Biya or any other president simply does not love himself and his brethren... you might twist it the way you want but bakassi is very fresh reminder of what will happen again should Nigeria try to grab anything from us talk less about funding terrorism on our soil ,not only we will outflank your obsolete army but we will dine in Lagos and Abuja in less than 2weeks while sending. many of us have seen how captured or killed BHTs look in pics. Well nourished or starving?
Seems they have enough food and water to go around feeding 200 girls and themselves. The girls don't look bad at all. Its probably better bieng in BHT captivity for more than 2 years than a prisoner in the Nigerian prison system, if you know what I mean??
This people no go kill pesin!

SupremeCourt:

Most important question all Nigerians fail to ask is; Where is Boko Haram hiding hundreds of Chibok girls after army cleared Sambisa, air force surveyed every kilometer of North East? How can the whole federal intelligence and military machinery not know where so many girls are being hidden and now being released bit by bit? Those Boko Harams who brought these 82 girls out on agreed time, agreed date, to agreed location, where did they emerge from and disappear to like ghosts riders? Are the NAF, NIA, and DSS so blind?

Allow me to lend my voice to this Chibok girls discussion.
I for one believe this was an orchestrated agenda with the help of certain elements to propel the current government to power. I believe the girls are being held in a politician’s enclave deep in a remote location in Bornu. Some may not agree but this is my position. With the way these girls get released in trickles whenever ratings get low for this government, it leaves many questions unanswered.

TrueHeart365:

politics bro, politics.

this government spends more time/money on propaganda than any other government we ever had.

when approval ratings is low they'll either discover some money with no owner and no arrests, or rush the release of another batch of "chibok girls".

Nigerians are easily distracted by irrelevancies. it's a common ssocietal flaw.

funny how this happened day before the president will be away indefinitely.

Are they based on similar chassis and engine capacity as the proforce types?
I don't even know what the specifications are for the proforce vehicle.

Henry240:
Similar type vehicles from Inkas, the Canadian Armoured Vehicle Manufacturer. However unlike the Proforce vehicles, these are used in the military role.

LOL, I readily recall Gbash10, - shiny new airframes over Makurdi, testing out what looks like new jets, and all other speculations.
The blog was an avenue for optimistic enthusiasts to generate a wish list. Unfortunately, the bloggers weren't actual implementers. grin
Nigerian military affairs na siddon look till you use ur eye see am korokoro. History has taught me that we don't do daring procurement - even when we had the cash.
One should never be moved by top brass going for air shows, exhibitions or visiting other countries' military industrial facilities etc, till we see the asset live.

Henry240:

You just reminded me of @Gbash10, that dude was always hallucinating about jets. He was always the originator of those rumours.

You got that right Chkil.

chkil:

well nigeria is a big country with huge population , if france move it will be with NATO and there is no chance in case of war to see a ground war or large invasion , it will be only air strikes , naval blocus and cruise missile strike maybe some SF quick operation or creat a new moderate insurgent and help them .

and what surprises me the most for a big country like Nigeria is the lack of an effective air defense system no deterrence at all , rafale can strike what they want and return home easly , so nigerian army should focus in long medium short air defense systems and cost defense systems from russia or china . ( S300 , Buk,Tor, pantsir ect ...)

So with all these Franco-military proxy states surrounding us from the north, east, south and west, we still toy around with old Vickers, alpha jets and F7s, and a navy with very limited offensive capability?
And a psychopathic former president for unknown reasons gave away Bakassi peninsula, completely exposing our Eastern naval command and whatever foothold the army and navy could have towards south-western Cameroon. Some leaders we have in Nigeria. God help us.

Huge loss to the NA. An unassuming fellow, no muscles, no braggadocio, but had balls of steel and a very accommodating heart towards those serving under him. In my opinion, he had already proven his mettle and should have been pulled out of the theatre. He was deployed for far too long a time. RIP Lt. Col Ali.

There is no super weapon in battle/war.
Your doctrinal approach to using your men, weapons and equipment; and the ability of your team to assess and understand the enemy and their capabilities and shortcomings give you the edge.
And of course, no one expects the use of dane guns or Panzer tanks in today's battlefield environment.

LTGEN, your words of wisdom are noted.

Commentators @ Sheyi and Deway
Please exercise a little bit of patience about the incident 15 miles from the border with Niger, agreed something bad/ terrible happened .Premium times most of the time is credit worthy, however we honestly don't know whom their sources are, the Nigerian Army as usual is doing a horrible job handling an already tense situation by withholding what they know, this however might not be unconnected with the fact that some Soldiers are still missing.
The Nigerian army needs to be more forthcoming or else we are going to continue to see this breathless anonymous not allowed to speak on the record or even worse.
I hope and pray that all hands are on Deck to rescue/ recover all the missing areas and a thorough investigation as to what really happened and who was in command of this unit.

I knew from your first comment that you were going to resurrect the insults you Cameroonians spit out to the Nigerian military on your blogs and media. We admit we made mistakes but don't ever think for a second that your BIR has the capacity to take on our regular army. But for the Hague, you'll be begging Nigeria for Bakassi till date. You have no grounds whatsoever to think you can equate a few BIR soldiers to the Nigerian military, not your army, not your air force, not your navy. Everyone has been a bit restrained and mature on this blog and I'll advise you do the same.

Before we kill him, I think he made a couple of valid points. For me, I agree with the "no noise discipline issue" and the fact that a good mortar team would have caused real havoc in that NA camp.
However, for the threat they were presented with, they put it down rapidly.

Very good raw video, unedited, just as is. Nice to see how they calmly and confidently neutralized the threat, just like "one of those normal days of combat" They had probably fully secured the area which is why an unarmed LUH would make a landing.
The RPG guy walking calmly, he's probably had his fair share of combat exposures, however, its not always a good thing to under rate the capacity of the enemy.

Henry240:
This is the most authentic Nigerian military video you'll ever see. Nothing scripted, it's an Amateur video from clearing operations deep inside Sambisa forest. Combat footage, broken down tanks, logistics supply, high espirite de corps, high morale, humour, and the best part, it is 43 minutes long. Watch, enjoy and share.

Correction: The Jonathan government wasn't hostile to the west. The British have always been and continue to be engaged with the NN SBS.
We were in the middle of a hot and deadly insurgency at the time, and the so called US trainers wanted the army to withdraw equipment being used in the war for training. Where does that even begin happen? How is that even possible? Of course the western media wouldn't mention this. The army had no choice but to reach out to the president to send them packing. They donated some run down Casspir MRAPs to the army this year, they could have done same back then if they wanted to.
US foreign policy is positive only where they can derive benefit and if one administration doesn't favor them, then it gets the butt of the US.

MikeCZA:
The Jonathan administration was hostile to the west.

It is only now that western forces are coming back to Nigeria to provide training to some units.
