The problem is that since that man awolowo die, the people of yoruba had not had a leader but only greed men who do not care for their people expect thief who are appointed for them by northerners. so how they appoint the most hatered man in edo state. Anineh. who can not win local government election
Must the 'people of yoruba' have a leader to excel in their personal lives?. Good leaders are only good for politics and allocation but I think it's old fashioned and not necessary in this 21st century.

I think this thread is about Ms. Adichie, and not someone's "bias for caucasians". I loved Half Of A Yellow Sun. I was reading it while in the middle of a very important exam of my life, couldn't put it down. I passed o!

No one is biased against Caucasians. Are you a Caucasian?

Good decision. After all, the harder they shout preach the more corruption we witness in the society.

Churches are not responsible for the corruption in the society. If anything, they help to curtail it. embarassed embarassed embarassed embarassed

On a serious note, what do you understand by pagan? Who is a pagan? And how will you know one?
Anybody who worships strange gods and is yet to accept Jesus christ as his personal lord and savior.

The way most of these pentecostal preachers use noise to intimidate people into listening to their sermon in Nigeria is alarming. I hope they attach jail sentence to defaulters.

Rivers to regulate church activities
From RoseAnn Chikereuba, Port Harcourt

TO check noise pollution, the Rivers State Government has said that from April this year, it would begin to regulate the activities of churches in the state.

The state government said the decision was aimed at improving the environment. It lamented that indiscriminate flying of banners, posters and horn- speakers by churches constituted noise pollution.

Briefing journalists after a close door meeting with some religious leaders and Local Council Chairmen in Le Meridien Hotel, Port Harcourt yesterday, the Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Kingsley Chinda said the parley was held to look at issues that bordered on range from indiscriminate activities of some churches in the state which according to him, discoloured the environment.

He explained that the state government and the church leaders had agreed on ways to ameliorate the situation. "The hanging of horn -speakers outside the church will be stopped completely, there will be no more indiscriminate flying of banners and posters, conditions would be given for vigil while crusades would be considered only with appropriate regulations and due process"

The commissioner announced that three months grace has been given to all churches in the state to adjust themselves and adhere to the rules and warned that as from April 2009, there would be strict enforcement of the law.

He said: "We know that having agreed within ourselves, it will not really be enforcement but we hope that the churches will corporate with the government to make Rivers State a better place; we have given three months grace because we believe the period is sufficient to pass the messages across to he people all over the out state".

He added, "We are not banning crusades but appropriate regulations would be followed, whenever we need to carry out a religious carnival. There is need to follow due process to ensure we get the necessary permit. We should not outlaw completely, we should not disturb our neighborhood in the course of serving God. Moslems may be affected as well".

On his part, the Chairman of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Port Harcourt , Eugene Ogu said the government was determined to implement the policy so as to bring decency in the state. He urged the churches to cooperate and support the government.

His words: " We all travel abroad and we appreciate the decency that we see there even the bible says let all things be done with decency .So no body should contravene the law; we have seen the government's seriousness so let us cooperate and support him".

Some relatives of hers speak igbo. Her only brother met his wife in Nigeria. Could she be Nigerian?

For well over two centuries, the United States has been vastly more diverse than its ruling families. Now the Obama family has flipped that around, with a Technicolor cast that looks almost nothing like their overwhelmingly white, overwhelmingly Protestant predecessors in the role. The family that produced Barack and Michelle Obama is black and white and Asian, Christian, Muslim and Jewish. They speak English; Indonesian; French; Cantonese; German; Hebrew; African languages including Swahili, Luo and Igbo; and even a few phrases of Gullah, the Creole dialect of the South Carolina Lowcountry. Very few are wealthy, and some — like Sarah Obama, the stepgrandmother who only recently got electricity and running water in her metal-roofed shack — are quite poor.

“Our family is new in terms of the White House, but I don’t think it’s new in terms of the country,” Maya Soetoro-Ng, the president’s younger half-sister, said last week. “I don’t think the White House has always reflected the textures and flavors of this country.”

The families also share a kind of adventurous self-determination. In the standard telling, the Obama side is the one that bent the rules of geography and ethnicity. Yet the first lady’s family, the supposed South Side traditionalists, includes several members who literally or figuratively ventured far from home. Nomenee Robinson was an early participant in the Peace Corps, serving in India for two years; later, he moved to Nigeria, where he met his wife; the couple now live in Chicago. Capers Funnye Jr., a cousin of Mrs. Obama’s and a rabbi, was brought up in the black church, he said, but as a young man, he felt a calling to Judaism he could not ignore

This kind of negative publicity does not help our economy in Nigeria. The writer exaggerated a lot of things, I must say and we should try our possible best to write more rebuttals than feed him our attention.
